• Which Java Web Framework allows Cross-Domain Javascripting (http proxy) ?

  So just a quick intro, I am starting to explore Vaadin, and it's absolutely perfect. Previously, I was juggling PHP, Perl, Ruby, and Jquery for designing rich client web application. It didn't work out too well, as I've burnt out from trying to fix cross browser issues (aka get-it-to-work-on-IE-damn-it), handling server-side, client-side, and building a robust communication between the two tier had lot of code not related to application logic....by the time I was burnt out, only tiny bit of application logic was implemented. Vaadin seems like the answer to my problem as it only requires Java and built on top of GWT. However, I am curious how I can incorporate Cross-Domain Javascripting ? Back in LAMP environment, I had a CGI proxy script that loaded external URL, and injected JS into the proxy-loaded page. I used the CGI proxy script, as it rendered Javascript of the external URL well. Is there a class or package for Java or a specific Java web framework similiar to Vaadin that makes this possible ?   I continue to work on a printer for F# quoted expressions, it doesn't have to be perfect, but I'd like to see what is possible. The active patterns in Microsoft.FSharp.Quotations.Patterns and Microsoft.FSharp.Quotations.DerivedPatterns used for decomposing quoted expressions will typically provide MemberInfo instances when appropriate, these can be used to obtain the name of a property, function, etc. and their "declaring" type, such as a module or static class. The problem is, I only know how to obtain the CompiledName from these instances but I'd like the F# name. For example, > <@ List.mapi (fun i j -> i+j) [1;2;3] @> |> (function Call(_,mi,_) -> mi.DeclaringType.Name, mi.Name);; val it : string * string = ("ListModule", "MapIndexed") How can this match be rewritten to return ("List", "mapi")? • Comparing Each Character in Java String

  I am a beginner at java, and I am trying to create two strings and compare each character. If there is a matching character or characters, the code has to print out the length of each string, without the matching characters. For example, if one string is "super," and the other is "perfect," the program should interpret the strings as superfect, and print out 9 However, if there is no matching part, like pencil and eraser, the code should printout 12, which is the length of two strings combined. Right now, I am having a problem with comparing each character, since I tried to use if(input_word.compareToIgnoreCase(input_word2) != 0) but it only compared the string as a whole.. any suggestion? • Connect from Mac OS X to Windows 7 Desktop

  I am trying to connect from my MacBook to my Windows 7 machine within my own network - if it will work from outside my network that's a plus but no need to have. My Windows 7 machine is freshly installed with Windows 7 Home Premium. It runs the built-in firewall with no settings changed so far as well as Microsoft Security Essentials. So far I tried CoRD and Microsofts Remote Desktop Connections to connect from my Mac to my Windows machine without any success. I did try and disabled the firewall on my Windows machine but could not connect either. The reason I did this was to check wether there is a Windows firewall setting preventing me from connecting. On top of that I manually started the Remote Desktop Services and Remote Desktop Configuration within services.msc. Is there anything else I have to enable for a remote desktop connection? Could there be any router setting I have to tweak? Since I do not want to connect from outside my own network I thought I don't have to do any port forwarding. The error messages I retrieve are all connection timeouts. I can however ping the hostname and/or IP address. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot, jrn

• What's the best way to return something like a collection of `std::auto_ptr`s in C++03?

  std::auto_ptr is not allowed to be stored in an STL container, such as std::vector. However, occasionally there are cases where I need to return a collection of polymorphic objects, and therefore I can't return a vector of objects (due to the slicing problem). I can use std::tr1::shared_ptr and stick those in the vector, but then I have to pay a high price of maintaining separate reference counts, and object that owns the actual memory (the container) no longer logically "owns" the objects because they can be copied out of it without regard to ownership. C++0x offers a perfect solution to this problem in the form of std::vector<std::unique_ptr<t>>, but I don't have access to C++0x. Some other notes: I don't have access to C++0x, but I do have TR1 available. I would like to avoid use of Boost (though it is available if there is no other option) I am aware of boost::ptr_container containers (i.e. boost::ptr_vector), but I would like to avoid this because it breaks the debugger (innards are stored in void *s which means it's difficult to view the object actually stored inside the container in the debugger)

• Is there a tool that will show diagrams of my SQL database in real-time?

  I've created some diagrams of SQL tables using the "Reverse Engineer" feature of Microsoft Office Visio. I like being able to visualize my relational databases in this manner. However, what I get is just a static document that I can print, e-mail to colleagues, and click widgets on. Earlier this year, I saw at a demo that the new version of Visual Studio 2010 has a new feature called the "Architect Explorer", which allows developers to view relationships among .net classes on the fly. It has many features for filtering the data that the developer is interested in. It would be really awesome if I could visually browse my tables and stored procedures and see what is related to what by primary key, foreign key, and referenced in stored procedures. I realize that I'm talking about two entirely different technologies and it's not a perfect analogy, but is there some similar tool that would allow me to visualize tables in my SQL database?

• Drawing Image onto Canvas Stretches Image?

  I have this code (stolen from the web): function readIt() { var reader = new FileReader(); reader.onload = (function(e) { var img = new Image(); img.src = e.target.result; var c = document.getElementById("canvas"); var ctx = c.getContext("2d"); ctx.drawImage(img, 0, 0); } ); reader.readAsDataURL(document.getElementById('userImage').files[0]); } Which works up to a point. The canvas's width and height are set to the size of the image, but only the top left of the image appears - It appears to be stretched so it fits all the space allocated to the canvas (enough to display the whole image - 615px x 615px). If I add an <img> element sized the same size as the canvas and point the src to the image in the file system it appears perfect. I'm using Chrome, but it appears the same in Firefox. • CentOS and OpenSSH [on hold]

  I've recently installed CentOS 6 on an old Dell PC. I'm trying to setup OpenSSH at the moment, I been following some tutorials (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKafb0koJEg) on You Tube, while they have been very helpful I'm at the point where I need to ask some questions. My goal here is to be able to access the server from my work computer and from my personal laptop (which will be on the same home network as the server). I've installed OpenSSH with no issues. So the first thing I was advised to do was port forwarding. So in the sshd_config file, I've changed Port 22 to Port xxxx (where xxxx is a obviously a four digit value). I then restart the sshd service. I've also configured my router for forward port 22 onto xxxx. Is there anything else I need to do? I've generated the keys on my laptop, and I'm trying to copy them to the server as follows: scp id_rsa.pub xxxxxxxx@localhost:.ssh/authorized_keys but this command fails with the following error message: ssh: connect to host localhost port 22: Connection refused lost connection Any help appreciated.   This is a variation on an existing question in SO about securing/obfuscating .Net applications in general. I'm developing an API in C# that includes some algorithms I'm keen to protect. I understand no method will be perfect, but what's the generally accepted method for doing this? I'd like my clients to be able to code against the API but I don't want them to reverse engineer what's inside (at least I don't want to make it easy for them). If I obfuscate the code, won't that also obfuscate the API? We're looking at smartAssembly any thoughts comments on the product would be appreciated.

• (Secure) alternative to TLS / SSLv3 ?

  Toying with an idea for a F2F networked application I've just been reading up on secure communication. I quickly settled with the idea of using TLS / SSL as the basis for any communication since it employs Public Key encryption at the protocol level and thus is perfect for my needs. However I was surprised to read (on wikipedia) that the newest version of TLS, SSLv3 uses a mix of MD5 and SHA-1 "because if any vulnerability was found in one of these algorithms the other would prevent it from compromising SSLv3". However, as I take it, lately both have been found flawed ! So my questions are thus: Does this not mean that SSLv3 is basically flawed, or am I not reading close enough ? And if so does a "secure" alternative to SSLv3 exist ?

• URL Routing to Default Page

  Hi everyone, I have an asp.net 4.0 web forms app setup with url rereouting. In development, my app's URL looks perfect. I have a page called enrollnow.aspx that responds to the routing, so if I type in localhost/enrollnow/abc, my app responds as expected. Once promoted into my staging environment however, the URL is off. I have a domain, and a virtual dir created off of my domain called "enrollnow". So basically, my URL outside of development is: mydomain.com/enrollnow/enrollnow/abc - where the first enrollnow is the directory, the second enrollnow is the page name, and the abc is my route value. Is there any way I can have the "default page" respond, so the second enrollnow (which is enrollnow.asp) isnt required? Perhaps I can rename my enrollnow.aspx page to default.aspx, or I can change the mapping in my routetable? Heres my routetable, incase that helps. thanks! • SQL compare entire rows

  In SQL server 2008 I have some huge tables (200-300+ cols). Every day we run a batch job generating a new table with timestamp appended to the name of the table. The the tables have no PK. I would like a generic way to compare 2 rows from two tables. Showing which cols having different values is sufficient, but showing the values would be perfect. Thanks a lot Thanks for the answers.   Hi, In short: is there a way to compile and run single file in NetBeans or Visual Studio without having to setup and tinker with projects? I'm currently using code::blocks as my IDE. It's fast and very simple: perfect for my needs as a begginner. I wanted to dive a little deeper and try out a more advanced IDE such as NetBeans or Visual Studio. It appears I have to mess with projects and have a setup that seems overkill for having to compile and run one very simple .c/.cpp source file that contains less than 50-100 lines of code etc. Is there a way around this?

• Using iptables to make a VPN router

  I am attempting to make a VPN connection to a third party VPN site, then forward traffic from my internal computers (ssh and ping for now) out to the VPN site using IPTables. 3rd Party <- (tun0/eth0)Linux VPN Box(eth1) <- Windows7TestBox I am running on CentOS 6.3 Linux and have two network connections eth0-public eth1-private. I am running vpnc-0.5.3-4 which is currently connecting to my destination. When I connect I am able to ping the destination IPAddresses but that is as far as I can get. ping -I tun0 10.1.33.26 success ping -I eth0 10.1.33.26 fail ping -I eth1 10.1.33.26 fail I have my private network Windows 7 test box set up to have the eth1 (private) network of my VPN Server as its gateway and can ping him fine. I need IPTables to send the Windows 7 traffic out the VPN tunnel. I have tried for a few days many different IPTables configurations from this site and others, either the other examples are too simple or overly complicated. The only thing this server is doing is connecting to the VPN and forwarding all traffic. So we can "flush" everything and start from scratch here.   I am building a note taking app for myself with tag filtering functions, but am having an issue when trying to grab notes with the tags. The tag filter needs to use AND not IN, because it will help better narrow down what I am looking for. My tables are configured like this: + notes note_id | note_title | note_uid + tags tag_id | tag_title + notes_tags nt_id | nt_note_id | nt_tag_id The notes_tags table keeps track of all notes' tags. I am not worried about returning any information about tags, so here is an example LEFT JOIN I am using currently to only get notes with only 1 tag. SELECT * FROM notes_tags LEFT JOIN notes ON note_id = nt_note_id WHERE note_uid IN ( 1 ) AND nt_tag_id = 10 This query runs perfect, it grabs all of the notes with that single tag. However, I am having issues "pinpointing" my notes using a query like this: SELECT * FROM notes_tags LEFT JOIN notes ON note_id = nt_note_id WHERE note_uid IN ( 1 ) AND nt_tag_id = 10 AND nt_tag_id = 11 What am I doing wrong with the syntax?

• Can hash tables really be O(1)

  It seems to be common knowledge that hash tables can achieve O(1) but that has never made sense to me. Can someone please explain it? A. The value is an int smaller than the size of the hash table, so the value is its own hash, so there is no hash table but if there was it would be O(1) and still be inefficient. B. You have to calculate the hash, so the order is O(n) for the size of the data being looked up. The lookup might be O(1) after you do O(n) work, but that still comes out to O(n) in my eyes. And unless you have a perfect hash or a large hash table there are probably several items per bucket so it devolves into a small linear search at some point anyway. I think hash tables are awesome, but I do not get the O(1) designation unless it is just supposed to be theoretical.

I have been using a lot of different languages, including C++ by now, and I can only say that I really like it. I'm far more horrified by Delphi than by C++. Actually, I find it's an almost perfect, compiled language! I've been doing a lot of different projects in C++ as well, ranging from 3D video games to webservers and emulators for old video game consoles. And I still do not see the problem everyone else seems to have with it!

  I understand from the official documentation on unowned relationships that the app must use sets of Key objects on either side of the relationship. This makes perfect sense. Coming from many years of RDBM-style programming, though, I'm pretty confused about how I can model properties of that relationship itself. For example, if I have entities Category and Entry in my many-to-many relationship and would like to persist a dateAdded property, or some other data that are only relevant when both sides of the relationship are known. I suppose it would be possible to create a third class : CategoryEntry that links the two, but this seems like a kludge. What is the proposed way to model this kind of situation ?

  So I have a horribly designed class that I can't change that has properties like this: object.Color1 object.Color2 object.Color3 etc... How can I iterate through those with a for loop. In other words, something like this: for (int i = 0; i <= 40; i++) { string PropertyName = "Color" + i; if (object.PropertyName != "") { // do something } } Obviously this code wouldn't work but it gives you an idea of what I'm after. I have to do some processing on each property and I don't want to repeat my code 40 times. :) A loop would be perfect, I'm just not sure how to create the name of the property on the fly.

  I am having trouble configuring my NAS. I have a DSL router with WIFI (192.168.1.1) in my flatmates room. In my room I have a server with two NICS: 1) wlan0 (192.168.1.2) that connects to the DSL router via wireless 2) em1 (192.168.0.1) that connects to the NAS (192.168.0.20) with a crossover cable. I have Fedora 17 and I have enable packet forwarding. My IP configuration is as follows: WLAN0 inet 192.168.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.0.255 EM1 inet 192.168.1.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255 My routing table looks like: Destination Gateway G enmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface 0.0.0.0 192.168.1.1 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 wlan0 192.168.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 em1 192.168.1.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 wlan0 I have enable a static route in the DSL server: Status Network Destination Subnet Mask Interface Gateway Remove Edit Active 192.168.0.0 255.255.255.0 LAN 192.168.1.2 From my server I can ping the DSL router and the NAS.   I'm looking for a formula or rule that will allow me to distribute n characters into a n*n grid with as perfect of a distribution as possible. Let's say we have an array of 5 characters, A through E. Here's an example of how it definitely shouldn't turn out: A B C D E B C D E A C D E A B D E A B C E A B C D The pattern is very clear here, it doesn't look "random". It would look better this way: A B C D E D E A B C B C D E A E A B C D C D E A B What I basically did here was place the A B C D E on the first row, then shift it by 2 on the second row, by 4 on the third row, 1 on the fourth row and 3 on the fifth row. Compared to the very bad example, this one shows no clear pattern. Though I'm certainly hoping there is a pattern, so I can use it to calculate not only small arrays such as this one, but arrays of any size. Any ideas as to how this can be accomplished?
