• BindableAttribute, Combobox, Selectedvalue property - WinForms

  I am deriving from combobox (WinForms) and am providing a new implementation for the Selectedvalue property. It works fine as is, but any change to the selectedvalue property is not updating other controls bound to the same "binding context" to change their values accordingly. I did try adding the BindableAttribute(true) to the property, but still it does nottrigger the change in value to the other linked controls. The control's DataBindings.add(...) is all set up. And other controls are also bound to the same data filed on the same datasource. Any ideas what i am doing wrong.

• How hard is it for a .NET programmer to learn Objective C and Cocoa?

  Hi, I'm trying to build a dual platform application for a company of my own I'm trying to start at night. I have the .NET version done, but have not finished the UI part. I'm thinking of buying some 3rd party controls. If I buy these controls, however, they clearly will only work in my Windows version. I'm wondering if I should try to do the UI in GTK# and use Mono with CocoaSharp or just build the thing in MS technology and teach myself the Mac side? I'm just really unfamiliar with the Mac world and am wondering how much of a learning curve there might be. I've thought perhaps of rewriting my core logic in Ruby or Python. This why I could use the .NET version with .NET controls and presumably hook the same code up on the Mac. It's an educational app targeted at consumers. As such, it shouldn't require a lot of technical sophistication to install.

• Architecting a generic search result web control

  In a project I'm currently working for we've stumbled upon the need for several kinds of search results presentation controls. The search result are similar, but not identical. For example, in the "office search" result we might want to present the office name and location, while in the "document search" could contain document name, author and publishing date. These fields should be sortable. My current strategy is to employ the Factory pattern and do something like this: ISearchResult officeResults = SearchResultFactory.CreateOfficeSearchResults(data); ISearchResult documentResults = SearchResultFactory.CreateDocumentSearchResults(data); The problem is: I don't know how to implement the markup code. Should I just do Controls.Add(officeResults); in the containing page? Or is there some ASPX trickery to create generic web controls? Or maybe I'm overthinking this and just should create five classes? ;)

(We have modified the source code) I followed all the steps to create the vendor branch:: created the vendor branch for old version (3rd party library) created the vendor branch for latest version (3rd party library) copied the latest version to current folder using (usign svn_load_dirs.pl script) structure of vendor repository in svn URL/vendor/library/3.5.0 URL/vendor/library/3.7.0 URL/vendor/library/current I have the library-3.5.0 used/modified at URL/trunk/library/customized-library I have a problem when I try to merge the difference between URL/vendor/library/3.7.0 and URL/vendor/library/3.5.0 to URL/trunk/library/customized-library I am at the folder where URL/trunk/library/customized-library is checked out and I use following command to do the merge svn merge URL/vendor/library/3.5.0 URL/vendor/library/current . --accept PARAMETERS when I use theirs-conflict for accept parameter, It ignores all of my changes to the old version and copies files from 3.7.0 when I user mine-conflict, it ignores the files in 3.7.0 when I use postpone, it throws exception "tree conflict" Thanks Gyan

• best approach to do jsf form validation

  If I have many input controls in a form (There are separate validators for each of these input controls - like required,length and so on ) , there is a command button which submits the form and calls an action method. The requirement is - though the input control values are , say , individually okay - the combination of these values should be okay to process them together after the form submission - Where do i place the code to validate them together? 1) Can i add a custom validator for the command button and validate the combination together? like validate(FacesContext arg0, UIComponent arg1, Object value) but even then I will not have values of the other input controls except for the command button's/component's value right ? 2) can i do the validation of the combination in the action method and add validation messages using FacesMessage ? or do you suggest any other approach? • Best way to globally set every control's ValidationGroup property in an asp.net?

  I have a User Control with form items that is re-used considerably throughout a large web application, and up until this point the validation summary upon an invalid form submission is being handled by the .aspx that consumes the User Control. Now I need to set the ValidationGroup property at runtime for each of my form items controls (textboxes, lists, validators, etc). Rather than do it manually by setting each control I'm interested in iterating through all the controls in the User Control, detecting if that control has a ValidationGroup property, and setting it's value that way. Something like this: For Each ctrl As System.Web.UI.Control In Me.Controls ' so now what is the proper way to detect if this control has the ValidationGroup property Next Code sample in vb.net or c# works for me. • DropDownList selectedValue not changing display

  I have a list of controls that I change based on an event. The controls are contained within a table that is created dynamically. I traverse through a set of controls and if it is a RadioButtonList or a DropDownList I do the following: CType(cntrl, ListControl).SelectedValue = val The radio buttons set just fine but the dropdown list doesn't reset. Can anyone tell me why. The initial table is created on the first Page Load and stored in memory. It's values are changed during the eventhandling and reposted to a MasterPage's content holder.

• Is a new thread in a Visual Studio test project aborted when the test ends?

  Hi, i have to do some message exchange with a 3rd party (in a website). When the client posts a page, i start the message exchange. When that doesn't succeed for some reason, i report this to the client by rendering the page with a message. On the background, in a separate thread, i start a process to send abort messages to the 3rd party. I can't do this while the user is waiting for the page to come back, because it might take a few minutes. But in a test project, the test ends when the message to the 3rd party is sent, and after the new thread is started. But it seems that the new thread also ends, when the test is done. Is that normal behaviour? I do start the thread in a new class with a reference to 2 objects from the class which tries to send the message in the first place, may that be a problem?

• Html POST and return the same form with the values

  Hi, I'm learning web development, and I don't know how do this simple thing. I've a html form with "text", "radio" and "checkbox" controls, that POST the values to the server and it saves them, for example in a file. I save the POST in raw format: key=value&key=value&key=value&key=value and I'd like that when the user open the form back, return the form with the saved values already in the controls. Is there any neat way to do this? Or should I parse the POST string and set the values one by one in the controls at the server level? I think, I could return the saved data in a hidden input control, and after with a javascript I could do a getElementById(key) and set the value to each input control... but do I need to put the post string in a special format? How would you do it? Thank you in advance.

So because the page's controls' events run between the page's load and prerender events, is it true that whatever the begin task handler (handler for BeginAsync below) produces, it can't be used in the controls' events? So for example, if the handler gets data from a database, the data can't be used in any of the controls' postback events? Would you bind data to a data control after prerender?   I am working on a web app which makes use of a 3rd party HttpModule that performs url rewriting. I want to know if there's any way to determine the original url later on in Application_BeginRequest event. For example... Original url: http://domain.com/products/cool-hat.aspx Re-written url (from 3rd party httpmodule): http://domain.com/products.aspx?productId=123 In the past I have written HttpModules that store the original url in HttpContext.Items but, this is a 3rd party app and I have no way of doing that. Any ideas would be appreciated.

• ASP.NET Compiles on page load, but not on Ctrl+Shift+B

  during debug in cassini the code runs fine, but when I explictly build it, the compile breaks on an object saying it can't find the reference. During a breakpoint shows the proper reference to the object, and I can view the debug intellisense. The code itself is simple using CFTW.Controls; ... controls_LatestPresentations c = LoadControl("~/controls/LatestPresentations.ascx") as controls_LatestPresentations; c.loadContent(); return RenderControl(c); The control is a simple user control, with the namespace CFTW.Controls. The calling code is in a webcontrol, which lives in the same folder. I even tried adding the calling code to the same namespace.

• calculate the rendering of a custom control

  In an xpage I would like to be able to decide which custom controls have to be rendered or loaded. I have a custom control named 1, another 2, 3 etc When a scoped variable has the value 1, custom control 1 should be displayed/rendered/loaded. A value of 2 , custom control 2 has to be displayed. etc I came up with following sollution : I calculate if that custom control has to be loaded or not depending on the value of the scoped variable. Since I have 8 of these custom controls on 1 page I was wondering ,since only 1 out of those 8 custom controls have to be rendered ,if there isn't a better way with less code to do the same job. Won't my sollution put a lot of load to my server ?

• Permissions error for a signed Java applet when including external JAR files

  I have a signed Java applet. And it works fine. But now I have to integrate some 3rd party JAR files with it. When I test it from Eclipse, the whole thing works correctly. But when I test it as an applet, it gives me a FilePermission error. I thought this was because those 3rd party JAR files don't have a java.policy.applet within them. But manually adding the policy file doesn't get rid of the error. What am I missing? Thanks! ============================ All the 3rd party JAR files sit on the server filesystem like so: A.jar, B.jar, C.jar. And I include them in the applet tag like so: <applet archive="my.jar,A.jar,B.jar,C.jar"> </applet> Also, in the MANIFEST/MANIFEST.MF file in my.jar, I include those JAR files like so: Class-Path: A.jar,B.jar,C.jar

• ASP.net Treeview/Listview combination or alternative: Tutorials? Help?

  I need to create an ASP.net page that has a control on the page that has a five-level TreeView on the left side of the page, and accounting balances on the right side the coincide with each breakdown in the tree. Top level is company, next is group, next is program, etc... and the balances break down accordingly. I've seen that there are controls out there such as TreeView/ListView combination controls that can do this. Is there any tutorials or help out there on how to go about accomplishing this without paying for controls? Could a treeview do this alone by spanning data across the entire length of the columns since every level will have totals on it?

  I have a class UserControlBase that inherits System.Web.UI.UserControl and my user controls inherit UserControlBase class. UserControlBase has some common functions that are used in all user controls. I want to put error display funtion to UserControlBase as well so that I may not have to declare and manage it in all user controls. Error will be displayed in some label in usercontrol. Issue is how to access label which is in usercontrol in UserControlBase in function ? I dont want to pass label as argument. Please guide me on this issue. thanks

• How can I validate input to the edit control of a cell in a DataGridView?

  It appears that the only way to capture the keypress events within a cell of a DataGridView control, in order to validate user input as they type, is to us the DataGridView controls OnEditControlShowing event, hook up a method to the edit control's (e.Control) keypress event and do some validation. My problem is that I've built a heap of custom DataGridView column classes, with their own custom cell types. These cells have their own custom edit controls (things like DateTimePickers, and Numeric or Currency textboxes.) I want to do some numeric validation for those cells that have Numeric of Currency Textboxes as their edit controls but not all the other cell types. How can I determine, within the DataGridView's "OnEditControlShowing" override, whether or not a particular edit control needs some numeric validation?

  Hi, I'm looking for a method to specify parent window in *.rc file. In *.rc file, it contains the layout and controls of a dialog. Any new control added into it, will automatically become a child window of Dialog itself. But I want to add a custom draw window into dialog, and some other controls which has that "custom draw window" as parent window, not dialog itself. I know I can use ::CreateWindow(...) API to dynamic create a window in code, and specify the custom draw window as parent HWND. But we already has child controls layout in *.rc file, I just want to reuse them, without create HWND again. • Maven overlay with war not generated by maven

  I'm pretty new to Maven, so I apologize if this is a newbie question. We are trying to integrate a 3rd-party app into ours. This 3rd-party functionality is delivered to us as a war file. As part of this integration, I want to add some extra jars and and a properties file. Googling around, I discovered overlays. However, in all the examples I've seen, it looks the the wars that are being overlayed, were themselves generated by Maven, and thus Maven can figure out dependencies, conflicts, etc. between the two. I'm just wondering if there's a way for me to overlay this 3rd-party war with this extra stuff I want. If so, what would that look like in the pom.xml?

• c# 4.0 - best way to refactor a block of "If (something is Type) {}" statements?

FXCop warns me "Do Not Cast Unnecessarily" for this code - but I'm unsure how to rewrite it to make it better. Any ideas?

Party inherited by Organization and Person Organization inherited by Customer, Vendor Person inherited by Contact In the database I have the following tables Party, Customer, Vendor, Contact. All of them have a corresponding row in Party table. Contact belongs to either Vendor or Customer. I have a field on the Contact table for org_party_id. However, since the organization can be either a Customer or Vendor I need to be able to look at different tables. Is there a way to map this in hibernate? Or, a better way to manage it in DB/ hibernate?

  I would like to create a UserControl that will have some behavior(animated collapsing...) and some Controls in it (Rectangle, Ellipse, mostly for design purposes). However I need it to be a valid Panel like Grid so I can put more controls in it when designing main window. Controls that will be add to the new USerControl in main window design time does not need to interact with components that are added to it when creating a UserControl. How should I do this ? Do I have to extends Control? I'd prefer to extend just UserControl.

• LoadViewState not fired on my user control

  I have a user control nested in a repeater. Inside my user control I have another repeater and in that I have a panel. I am trying to override the LoadViewState event of my user control and dynamically add controls to the panel. I want to do it in the LoadViewState so that the dynamic controls get added before the viewstate gets loaded, so they retain their values after post backs. For some reason the LoadViewState event on the user control (ascx) is not firing. Is there some way to force it to fire, or is there another method I could use? I have ruled out the user controls repeater databind event, because I need it to work even if data binding isn't happening and I can't do it on the repeaters item created event either because the child panel and inner html doesn't exist yet.
