  • Problem with MSDE 2000 5 minute keepalive over ISDN

    We have a SQL Server transactionally pushing replicate data to an MSDE 2000 SP3a subscriber over ISDN. Prior to a recent upgrade to bring us to the MSDE 2000 level we pushed to MSDE 1. We are finding that there is now a 5 minute keepalive being instigated from MSDE 2000 which we cannot account for. Further, we can find no way to either disable it or lengthen the keepalive interval. Not surprisingly, we are finding a marked increase in ISDN line costs due to these previously non-existent keepalive packets! Please note that we are assuming that it is an MSDE 2000 server issue, but it could equally be some behaviour related to the way that replication is operating on MSDE 2000. Unfortunately, as yet, we have not identified a replication configuration parameter that affects the keepalive in any way. Can anyone advise how we might indentify a root cause for this problem (and ideally a fix)?

    the issue is this Undo the CLEAN command on the portable hdd : DISKPART unfortunately at step no 10, i dont see the option to save the partition table.but there are options for: deeper search quit write a partition. wat should i do?plz help(i run testdrive 6.14) here is how this happened... I ran cmd then diskpart then selected the volume used 'CLEAN' command to clear the configuration (accidentally) does reinstalling my windows solve this ? will my hard drive work on other computers?

  • Increased CF JVM max heap size and now CF service will not start

    So I went in to ColdFusion Administrator and increased my CF JVM max heap size, then I was told I would need to restart the service, so I stopped the service, and then tried to start it again and got the following error message: Windows could not start the ColdFusion 8 Application Server on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code 2. So I went to the Event Viewer application, then took a look at the Application log and saw an error that said: The ColdFusion 8 Application Server service could not be started. Check the server "coldfusion" log files for more information. So I went to my ColdFusion logs directory opened the server.log log file and I don't see anything useful in there or any of the other log files.. Any idea how I can change the JVM heap size back to what it was so that I can start CF again?

  • WinXP - Having trouble sharing internet with 3G USB modem via ICS

    all! I've been banging my head against a wall with this issue for a few days now and am hoping someone can help out. I recently signed up for T-Mobile's webConnect 3G/4G service to replace the faltering (and slow) DSL connection in my apartment. The goal was to put the SIM in one of my old phones and use its built-in WLAN tethering feature to share Internet out to rest of my computers. I quickly found out that webConnect-provisioned SIMs do not work with regular smartphones, so I was forced to either buy a 4G-compatible router or tether one of my old laptops to my wireless router and share out that way. I chose the latter, and it's sharpening my inner masochistic self by the day. Here's the setup: GSM USB modem (via hub), ICS host - 10/100 Mbps Ethernet NIC, ICS "guest" - WAN port of my SMC WGBR14N wireless router in bridged mode (i.e. wireless access point). Ideally, this would make my laptop the DHCP server and internet gateway with the WAP giving everyone wireless coverage. I can browse internet on the host laptop fine. However, when clients try to connect, they get a DHCP-assigned IP from the laptop and are able to use the Internet for a few minutes before completely dying. After that happens, they are able to re-associate with the WAP and get IP addresses, but are unable to use Internet or resolve IP addresses until the laptop and router are restarted. If they do get access, it's very, very slow. After running Wireshark on the host machine, it turns out that this is because every TCP connection keeps getting RST. DNS seems to work. I would normally think the firewall is the culprit here, but when it drops packets, it drops them completely. The fact that TCP connections are being ACK'ed by the destination rules that out. Of course, none of the event Log isn't saying anything about what's going on. I also tried disabling power management on the NIC, since that's caused problems in the past; that didn't help either. I finally disabled receive-side scaling as per a Microsoft KB (that applied to Windows Server 2003, SP2) to no avail. I'm thinking of trying it with a different NIC (will be tough; don't have a spare Ethernet NIC around for the laptop), but I'm getting the impression that this simply doesn't work.     My whole drive data is lost because I installed ubuntu. After that, I formatted my Laptop and make new drives. in which, one partition is cant accessible because its a raw partition. I recovered some data from that partition using iCare Recovery Software. Then, I fully format that partition, and I put data in that place. I remove all files from that. My problem is that I want to recover my data which is deleted because of ubuntu.. I can recover the most recent data from iCare Recovery, but i cannot recover previous data.. Please, help me for that. I am trying this from many days. Thanks

  • Firefox steals focus from RocketDock

    If Firefox (v3.6.28) is running, RocketDock (with Layering set to "Always on Top") shows above Firefox but if in Firefox I do certain things (such as writing a post or watching a YouTube clip) RocketDock does no longer show on top of Firefox. I also use another launcher (FSL) and when invoked that shows on top of Firefox while RocketDock does not... This problem only occurs with Firefox, while running any other application RocketDock pops up normally (on top). For various reasons I prefer not to change my Firefox version and I really hope someone can suggest a solution. I am going nuts. Thanks for your help :)

  • Set scheduled task last result to 0x0 manually

    Every night a task runs that checks if any scheduled task has a Last Result is not equal to 0x0. If a scheduled tasks has an error like 0x1, then automatically an e-mail is sent to me. As some tasks are running only weekly, and sometimes an error occurs which results in not equal to 0x0, every night an e-mail is sent with the error message, as the Last Result column still shows the last result of 0x1. But I would like to set the Last Result column to 0x0 manually if I solved a problem, so I won't get every night an e-mail with the error message. So is it possible to set the scheduled tasks Last Result to 0x0 manually (or by a script)? @harrymc. See located script underneath that is sending the e-mail.   • Windows - Website unaccessible only on windows pcs in LAN

    For serveral days now, a website isn't accessible on a single pc in the LAN. On the other pc's, it works just fine. And it's just a single website that's not accessible as far as I know of. The website generates a timeout on every single web browser I've tried (IE8, Firefox and Chrome). However, traceroute, nmap and telnet all work just fine. I've even tried multiple user accounts and safe mode, but that didn't work either. As a side note: using a linux live cd did work and I could access the website without any problems. The hosts file is the windows default, the ip- and dns settings on the network adapter normal as well. No strange processes are running and no viruses found. According to tcpview and netstat there are connections to the domain, but every request in the browser results in a timeout.. Any idea what's happening? Update: All of the computers on the network running Windows (any version) are showing this problem now. The website is still working under linux and mac osx. So, it has to be related to some kind of windows update (although I haven't installed any on one computer in the past week, which I've set to do manual updates only)..

  • Can't transfer images from a camera connected to usb2 port on a pcmcia adapter

    I have an old laptop (HP OmniBook vt6200, WinXp pro, sp2) that only has usb1 ports. Transferring pictures from a digital camera is too slow, so I thought of trying one of those pccards carrying usb2 ports (D-Link Dub C2 in my case). Connecting the camera to one of the ports on the pccard, Picasa seems to freeze trying to read the camera contents, until I either disconnect the camera or the pccard. Any idea on what's wrong?

    When I try clicking on a zip file link on a web page, IE 7 tries to open it as an XML document and displays: The XML page cannot be displayed Cannot view XML input using XSL style sheet. Please correct the error and then click the Refresh button, or try again. I get around this by right-clicking and using Save Target As... Double clicking on a .zip in the file system opens my zip program without problems. How do I fix this problem?

    Hi everybody. recently I've bought a VGA card, "ATI Radeon HD4650", and after that I installed it on my PC, i cant run any .exe files just from my CD-Rom ! even when i attempt to install the driver of VGA Card, I couldn't do that, So I downloaded it and installed it with no problems. after that when I try to install some games from DVD (more than 5 different games I have tried) it prompt me with: "setup.exe is not a valid win32 application" therefore I cant install the game, in addition I need to say that there's nothing wrong with DVD's and my DVD-Rom. I would really appreciate if you just can help me through this one !

  • How do you set the Scheduled Tasks "Run only if logged in" option from the command line?

    I want to create some tasks with the "Run only if logged in" option set, but using a batch file, as you can in the user interface version of the schtasks.exe tool. I'm doing this so I don't have to specify a password, either in the batch file, or when the batch file is run... I would use /ru System but I can't because the tool I'm automating (SyncToy 2.1) won't run with that account because I am hitting a network drive... Also, I noticed that Google Chrome sets up some tasks with this option set during installation, so I'm thinking there must be a way...

  • How do I get a Wireless N PCi card to connect to a wireless G router?

    I'm having some problems setting up a new wireless PCI card on a WinXP SP3 PC. I know that the router is configured correctly. It is a Linksys WRT54GL, using 802.11b/g. Security mode is WPA2 Personal with TKIP+AES encryption. I am able to connect to this fine using my laptop (first gen MacBook with a 802.11b built in card). The new PCI card is also Linksys, but it supports 802.11n. Card seems to be installed ok (Windows sees it fine, doesn't list any errors in Device Manager), however when it scans for available wireless networks it can't find my wireless network (the router is set to broadcast the SSID). I tried to enter the network SSID manually, but that didn't seem to help. I chose WPA2-PSK for network authentication. The only options for encryption are TKIP or AES - I've tried both, neither worked. I am sure that I typed in my wireless key correctly. At this point, I don't think the problem is with encryption, but something else. It almost seems like I need to switch the wireless card into g mode, but I haven't found a way to do that (if that is even possible/necessary - I thought n was fully backwards compatible with g). Also, the PC is in the same room as the router, and my laptop, so I don't think that it is an interference issue. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? I'm running out of things to try at this point. :(

  • Script to kill process at logoff doesn't execute until process is dead?

    We have a program that, due to memory leaks in some of the screens, doesn't exit cleanly when the user quits. The problem is that this blocks the normal logoff procedure - you select logout and a few processes disappear but the user doesn't actually log off. Since I'm unable to fix the program, I thought I'd use a script run at logoff to kill the process. I've verified the script kills the process if I run it by double clicking and have added the script to Windows Settings - Scripts - Logoff on my machine in gpedit. Unfortunately it seems that the logoff scripts don't get run until all the processes have died, so it never runs. Is there a way to make the logoff scripts run at an earlier point in the process? Or is there a better approach to the issue?

    Is there any free software that will detect the status of internet and shutdown the system when the internet disconnects? Or (more generally) can something run a task when the internet disconnects, and I can route it to shutdown the machine? I am downloading things overnight. But my problem is that sometimes the internet connection will be disconnected in the middle of the night, so there is no point in keeping the system running the rest of the night. So I need to avoid this problem by detecting the net connectivity.
