• Computer Vision and AR libraries availabe for Android?!?!?

  Hello I am starting out as an Android Developer, and I would like to know if there are any Computer vision libraries or Augmented Reality libraries for the Android SDK , as I am planning to use these libraries for a mobile app. I have read that if I download the NDK, I might be able to "import/use" the C openCV, and ARtoolkit libraries, but I am wondering if this is possible, or if there is a better and easier way of using these tools. Android apps are programmed in Java, yet OpenCV & ARtoolkit use C/C++, any way to use these libraries?!? Thank you!

• Android ListView background colors always showing grey.

  I have a ListView that I'm populating from a custom ListAdapter. Inside the Adapter (in the getView(int, View, ViewGroup) method) I'm setting the background color of the View using setBackgroundColor(int). The problem is that no matter what color I set the background to it always comes out a dark grey. It might also be worth noting that I'm using the Light theme. Relevant (simplified) bits of code: AndroidManifest.xml: <activity android:name=".MyActivity" android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Light" /> MyAdapter.java: @Override public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) { LayoutInflater inflater = LayoutInflater.from(mContext); View av = inflater.inflate(R.layout.my_row, parent, false); av.setBackgroundColor(R.color.myRow_red); mName = (TextView) av.findViewById(R.id.myRow_name); mName.setText("This is a name"); return av; } Any ideas/suggestions?

• Android: databinding when using a ArrayAdapter: possible?

  I need some simple databinding for a Spinner. I want to display 2 items for each dropdownitem. So when the user clicks the spinner I get a list like: ------------------- Name 123456 ------------------- Name 123456 ------------------- I understand this can be done when using a Cursor, according to the databinding info on android dev. Like: SimpleCursorAdapter adapter2 = new SimpleCursorAdapter(this, R.layout.my_custom_spinner_item_layout, cur, new String[] {People.NAME, People.ID}, new int[] {android.R.id.text1, android.R.id.text2}); However, I don't get my data from a database, so I don't use a cursor, I use a ArrayAdapter. Unfortunately it looks like there is no support for databinding with this adapter. Is there a way to do this?

• twitter's officially supported android application

  i am developing an application for android and would like for my users to be able to post some information from my application to their twitter feed. i know how to make this work by building a VIEW intent and forwarding the user to the android built-in web browser (thanks to stack overflow!) However, now that there is an official Twitter application, I would like to be able to use the twitter applications activity (if it is installed) to make the post. However, I can not find any developer documentation on what the Twitter Intent for Android is called. Can someone provide a short snippet of sample code that includes that text of the Intent to use?

• What is in scala-android.jar?

  I've been trying to experiment with developing Android applications with Scala. I've gotten to the point where I can get the app to compile, but there are no helper functions for things like: button.setOnClickListener( () => { text.setText("test") }) (I'm talking about the closure there) I see lots of references to scala-android.jar, and have this file in my project, but I'm not sure what it does, or how to use it. I get the feeling it has these helper conversion functions, but I'm not sure.   I need to upload an image to a remote PHP server which expects the following parameters in HTTPPOST: *$_POST['title']* *$_POST['caption']* *$_FILES['fileatt']* Most of the internet searches suggested either : Download the following classes and trying MultiPartEntity to send the request: apache-mime4j-0.5.jar httpclient-4.0-beta2.jar httpcore-4.0-beta3.jar httpmime-4.0-beta2.jar OR Use URLconnection and handle multipart data myself. Btw, I am keen on using HttpClient class rather than java.net(or is it android.net) classes. Eventually, I downloaded the Multipart classes from the Android source code and used them in my project instead. Though this can be done by any of the above mentioned methods, I'd like to make sure if these are the only ways to achieve the said objective. I skimmed through the documentation and found a FileEntity class but I could not get it to work. What is the correct way to get this done in an Android application? Thanks.

  Hi. I had a pagination related question posted earlier. Here I went through the posted answers and suggested choices and I realized that to implement pagination in an application I could still write db level queries and ensure that I could implement pagination, even if in a crude form. However I have few follow up questions now: I am trying to show SMS from a content provider. Suppose I don't want to use content provider; can I access SMS table in database through my application. Aoes android's security framework allow that? How do people generally handle pagination problems in android, related to content that they are not storing but instead are fetching through content providers. (Android's own or custom) Isn't this a bigger problem. I am surprised to find so little text online about it.

• How to add a dynamic library to Android?

  I want to add a non-native shared library to Android so every application on the device would be able to use it. I mean using packaged classes just like a core library as if they were present in the application itself. I studied Android source code to figure out a way to add a new path to the application ClassLoader and found out that it is created during startup and there's no way to change the paths later. I can use my own ClassLoader, but all I will get after loading a class will be a reference to a Class object. This way I will be bound to work through reflection mechanism, which is slower than the native execution system. Is there any way to organise a shared library on Android?

  Hi, I have some *.cpp source files and some *.s ARM assembler files I want to assemble and link in my Android.mk file (by running ndk-build script).   Does anyone have some helpful links to find out about Android Uri's? For example, you get a Uri back from a "take a picture" Intent. What does a URI look like and how do you use it. Why are they used instead of filenames or file handles? • Dynamic Midi generation and playback on Android: Possible?

  Strangely I find no support for Midi in Android. The only thing that comes close is the Jetplayer, but this only takes a existing .jet file. I want to dynamically generate a midi file with some intervals and play it. I even thought about just manually creating a .jet file with a tone and then transposing it with the jet player, but it limits the transposing to -12, +12. Which is not so good for me. There also is a ToneGenerator on Android, but it's limited to predefined tones with no way to transpose. Does someone know how to achieve midi generation and playback on Android?

  I am developing an application for the Android that requires a connection with PHP pages in order to add sensitive data to a database that will affect the application. Since it's very easy to reverse engineer an android app, one can simply find the url where the data is sent to and manipulate it. I thought about creating a registration based on IMEI, but one can still able to manipulate it for his malicious purposes. I have also checked OAuth but I didn't really understand how it works and if it can help in my condition. What can I do to fully secure my application? Thanks in advance! I've tried using VIM, Emacs and TextMate but I'm missing every feature in the Eclipse Android plugin: Auto generate R class Check for errors & warnings on code Auto completion Deploy to device or emulator Integrate with DDMS The list goes to infinity ... I know Eclipse is the best for what I want to do, but if I want to use any editor, what do you recommend to achieve a not so frustrating Android development experience?

But when i just save the manifest file once again the error vanishes and the program runs correctly. Why then do i get the same error again and again. ?   Is there a way, apart from using HTML and JavaScript on a web control, to have an (almost) single codebase for an application that should run on iOS and Android? The big issue is of course that they use a different language (Java for Android, Objective-C for iOS) for application development. It would be nice to have some sort of meta-language that will be translated in Java and in Objective-C. What about Flash? Adobe wasn't supposed to release a tool to create flash-based apps in iOS? Update: based on current answers, the best cross platform development tool for iOS and Android seems to be Titanium appcelerator.   Hi, My app offers a "share/tell-a-friend" function. When the "share" button is pressed the following method is being called to open a list of apps, which can perform the action (Eg. But when the sharing app (Facebook, Twitter, ...) tries to return to my app, a force close is thrown. I guess that my app gets closed in the background during the sharing process... at least that is what the debugger sais... Any ideas?

• Is it possible to run a MIDP application under Android

  The Google Market offers an application purporting to run J2ME MIDP applications on the Nexus One. I have tried this application but it only appears to run MIDP applications that are downloaded from particular web sites; it does not seem capable of picking up a MIDP application that is stored on the SD card in the phone. I have suggested to the developers that they might like to add such functionality, but they have not been particularly responsive to my messages. So I would like to build my own MIDP runner for Android and would like to see if I can find a pointer as to where to start, or even whether this is possible. The MIDP application in question was supplied on CD along with a security camera system and permits remote viewing and remote control over the security system. Clearly it wasn't built with the Android platform in mind. However, if it is possible somehow to run MIDP applications on Android (perhaps by creating some kind of sandbox environment for example) then I'd be quite keen to develop it.

• Collaborative localization website supporting Android strings.xml?

  My open source Android application has internationalization done the Android way, with strings.xml files. The community has many people from many countries, and they are willing to contribute/improve translations using a collaborative website. There is Launchpad but it only supports the gettext format so we would have to use scripts, not very convenient. There is Crowdin but somehow this website seems dead, nearly no projects, and the download links do not work. Actually we started using Crowdin but all download links fail to give any strings.xml file back, see here. What website is convenient for translating open source Android applications?
