• Can't install Ubuntu 11.10 on a seperate disk partition. I have a log file. Please help!

  Before I installed Ubuntu, I resized my C: drive (which has my Windows 7 OS). Prior to resizing, I even defragged the said drive. I tried using Wubi to install it on the created partition, but I receive an error. I have the log file and I would post it but it's too long and the site won't let me. :(So anyway, I wasn't able to install it, so I uninstalled it. Upon uninstalling Wubi and Ubuntu, I tried installing it by having the CD to my CD ROM. The installation was a success, however, upon rebooting I can neither boot to Ubuntu OR Windows 7. I get stuck in an infinite bootloop. I hope you can help me out! :(

• Good book about advanced programming techniques [closed]

  I am looking to a book covering adavnced programming techniques, covering different practical scenarios and describing the different challanges with the relative solutions. As example, which are the best ways to implement a module for buying on a web application with credit card or how to manage responsivenes for the frontend of the web application itself (dealing with cache, optimeze plugins, etc). On the web there are tons of tutorials about these topics, but I am looking for a book where such cases are collected all together and treated by real professionists. If the book would provide some code samples, that would be a plus (especially if C# .NET), but I am more interested in the approach/solution rather than the code details. I could not find any of these cases in the general book about programming, therefore I hope someone might point me in the right direction. EDIT: I have 4 years experience as web developer, mainly with Microsoft (C#, ASP.NET, SQL Server) and client side technologies (jQuery, HTML/CSS).

• Dualboot - Windows partition does not work [0xc000000e] + video

  Some may claim that this has already been asked, but I don't see MY problem in any of those posts. And if they actually have the same problem as mine, I may not understand what they've been trying to point out, actually. I hope you understand as to why I require a direct answer to the problem I'm having. I installed Ubuntu 14.04 along my Windows using a USB stick. It is possible to access my Windows (8.1) files from the folder page. I took off the Windows sticker, so I cannot get a Windows CD or anything from the support guys. I would delete my Windows partition then, but it's also tangled in this geeky mystery. • Are my Google Analytics ( 2 domains 1 site) duplicated or unique?

  We have recently built a new website with a new domain to replace an old website, and on the advice of our IT guys and web dev team have pointed both oldaddress.com's & newaddress.com's a records to the new website. Now, they both share the same google analytics code (UA-12345-1) and as such we have two entries in the Google Analytics dashboard. The problem is I'm still fairly novice with GA and as the reports seem VERY similar (~25k pageviews for each domain), are these figures exclusively for that domain? For example: oldaddress.com 25,400 pageviews newaddress.com 25,600 pageviews Does this mean that in total for this website I have 51,000 pageviews. Hope this is clear enough but let me know if anything needs clarifying. Thanks.

• Are the results of the system-check taken by "checkbox-gtk" public? Where can I watch them?

  With Ubuntu there comes a nice possibility to check the compatibility of a new (or even old) system and to send these data to the ubuntu developers. The tool to do this is "checkbox-gtk". I would like to know, whether there is a chance to view these results because it would be nice to know if the future system will work with ubuntu. Yes. I know about the certified hardware list, but there are only a few systems listed and i hope that more people test there systems with checkbox and commit the results.

• Play music from computer on phone, over WiFi?

  Wasn't sure whether to ask on here on on android.stackexchange.com ... but I want to play music which is on my desktop machine through my phone. The music is coming from ext4 partition which I am happy to share on the LAN. It should use WiFi not bluetooth (because I hope to use the bluetooth interface for other things, simultaneously). Is it possible and what do I need to setup on the desktop (on Ubuntu 12.04) and/or my phone (galaxy nexus)? edit: Just to clarify, I want the music to be playing from the phone, not through the desktop's speakers.

• 2d engine with WebGL

  I am currently developing a HTML5 canvas game with a sprite-based 2d engine. The engine is working well so far, but now I thought that I could maybe add some cool graphic effects when I would re-implement the whole engine with WebGL. The whole graphic engine would stay strictly two-dimensional (think of it as a 3d world where the z coordinate of all vertices is 0.0). What I hope to gain from this is the ability to use pixel shaders to create special effects. I also think that the performance could improve. What do you think about that plan?

  I bought this 2tb Segate GoFlex this last Black Friday and since then every 15 minutes or so the drive spins down, and then a little while later completely dismounts. Very annoying. From what I understand you could turn this off using the including Windows and Mac only software. This function and what controls it isn't proprietary, right? There has to be something that'll let me set it in Ubuntu... Anyone have any suggestions? Also, I formatted it to EXT4. Hope I didn't screw myself up. :/

  Hope u solve my problem. I am new to Ubuntu. I tried to install Ubuntu 12.04 in my pc which is way old because friends told me that it could be installed in any machine. I dually installed ubuntu along with Windows XP. After installation i get a message "Run ubuntu in low graphics" I gave yes and then i was asked for userid and Password. But i keep getting the same UserID page even though i gave the corrent UserID and Password. Is there any solution you can provide. This is my first experience with Ubuntu.

• Can Tutorial "Dual Boot Windows 7 & Ubuntu 12.04" Used for Dual Booting Windows 8 & Ubuntu 12.10?

  I previously used this tutorial to dual boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.04 perfectly. Now I have upgraded my Windows 7 to Windows 8. And I would like to do a fresh install (and start all over again like the tutorial) of Ubuntu 12.10 replacing existing Ubuntu 12.04. I like the way the tutorial presents thus can anyone kindly let me know if the tutorial is compatible with what I wanna do now? I have tried doing little research whether this has been asked, but all I got are not too similar to my question, if there are topics like this I do apologise and feel free to close it. • Recovering a deleted partition after installing Ubuntu?

  I have a serious problem. I Installed Ubuntu 13.04 on my Laptop. I format all partitions (Windows)/(Erase all data and Install Ubuntu):( . How do I recover my accidentally lost Windows partitions after installing Ubuntu?. I try using PartitionWizard and Testdisk. But cannot recovery partition, Partitionwozard and Testdisk only detected the linux partition (Linux/Ext4 and Linux/Swap). I hope the answer. Please help. and Sorry for my English is not good. • Learning MySQL Query optimization

  I've been doing web/desktop/server development for a while and have worked with many databases (mysql mostly). I've come to the point in my career when I need to have someone look at my queries because they're 'kind of slow'. I believe it's now time to start learning query optimization. While I know the basics of index and joins etc., I'm not familiar with how to use, say, the EXPLAIN output to improve performance of my queries. I have not been able to find any online material that starts with the basics and takes me to application. Getting a book is not an option right now so I'm looking for tips about how to proceed with this. I hope this question is general enough not to get closed.

• Issue with div image size [migrated]

  I hope this helps explain the issue I am having I have recently designed a horizontal scrolling portfolio for a client, the rights and wrongs of horizontal web design, is a sligtly seperate topic but alas the client wanted something different. Im having a real issue with the bottom div though As the monitor size is reduced its creating the browser scroll bar down the side as the div image is overlapping the monitor size. Wouldnt be such a huge issue but because of the nature of the horizontal site its producing a diagional scrolling effect. Is there away to prevent the screen expanding from the actual monitor size using css or anyother solution? I'm probably staring at the answer as I type but brain doesnt seem to be working unfortunately.

• Ubuntu 13.10 is terrible

  I was satisfied with 13.04. But when I upgraded to 13.10, I've had a lot of issues and some things just no longer work. To name a few problems: Can't change the brightness My laptop makes more noise than before It freezes more frequently (the kind that doesn't respond to ctr + alt + f2) Sometimes it boots up and and can't play any media files When running a full screened virtual machine in Workstation, ubuntu catches mouse at the edges When I have a VM opened in Workstation and I try to open up another, the first one gets powered off Most irritatingly, when I have a virtual machine running in full screen, every now and then the vm screen goes black and I have to switch to the host and come back 13.10 has offered nothing to compensate for these problems. I would like to get some advice about what I can do. Should I stick with 13.10 and hope the bugs will be fixed? Would a clean reinstall of 13.10 help? Btw, I'm giving some thought to trying other distros.

Because (at least I think) the interviewer did not think my background strong enough although I finished 5 courses projects and currently working on other 2 projects in graduate school. It seems that nowadays, recruiters like these candidates who finish some projects out of school/work. So I wanna enrich my background. So, I hope you guys recommend some java/C++ projects to me, which I can finish in two or three months. And it would be better if concurrency programming or other fancy skills are needed.

  Hi, I migrated a site from IIS6 to Windows Server 2008 R2 IIS7.5. It has an asmx web service, which is working fine locally, but returns this 500 error when called from another machine: Request format is unrecognized for URL unexpectedly ending in /myMethodName The solution in previous versions is to add this to the web.config for the protocols needed (typically omitting HttpGet for production): <system.web> <webServices> <protocols> <add name="HttpGet" /> <add name="HttpPost" /> <add name="HttpSoap" /> </protocols> </webServices> </system.web> This is posted everywhere, including http://stackoverflow.com/questions/657313/request-format-is-unrecognized-for-url-unexpectedly-ending-in For IIS7.5, this throws a configuration error; I understand this section doesn't belong, but tried it anyway. I also boiled down the asmx call to a simple hello world. I tested with POST also, just to eliminate any issues with GET. • Mysql server update cause error in php myadmin.

  Hi I have updated my mysql server from 5.0 to 5.1.x. before it works fine, but after upgrading its displaying error in my phpmyadmin. Error is as below: "Your PHP MySQL library version 5.0.51a differs from your MySQL server version 5.1.45. This may cause unpredictable behavior." I am not getting what to do with this.
