Decreasing the Height of the PinkMatter Flamingo Ribbon Bar

The one and only thing prohibiting wide adoption of PinkMatter's amazing Flamingo ribbon bar integration for NetBeans Platform applications (watch the YouTube movie here and follow the tutorial here) is... the amount of real estate taken up by the height of the taskpane: I was Skyping with Bruce Schubert about this and he suggested that a first step might me to remove the application menu. OK, once that had been done there was still a lot of height: But then I configured a bit further and now have this, which is pretty squishy but at least shows there are possibilities: How to get to the above point? Get the PinkMatter Flamingo ribbon bar from java.net (http://java.net/projects/nbribbonbar), which is now the official place where it is found, and then look in the "Flaming Integration" module. There you'll find com.pinkmatter.modules.flamingo.LayerRibbonComponentProvider. Do the following: Comment out "addAppMenu(ribbon);" in "createRibbon()". That's the end of the application menu. Oracle E-Business Suite is Helping to Save Lives at the National Marrow Donor Program

To improve the management of its life-saving operations, the National Marrow Donor Program recently modernized its financial and procurement operations by upgrading to Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1. A Quarter Century of SPARC

You might have missed an interesting milestone: the 25th anniversary of SPARC. Twenty-five years! Almost 40% of my life: humbling, maybe a little scary. When I joined Sun Microsystems in 1988, SPARC was just starting to shake things up. The next year we introduced the SPARCstation 1, which had basically triple the performance of our Motrolla-based Sun–3 systems. Not too long after that, our competition began a campaign of “SPARC is dead.” We really distressed them with our success, in spite of our small size. “It won’t last.” “It can’t last!” So they told themselves. For a stroll down memory lane take a look at this page. I remember the sales meeting we had in Atlanta to internally announce the SPARCstation 1. Sun hadn’t really hit the big times, yet. Our much bigger competitors viewed us as an ill-mannered pest, certain of our demise. And, why wouldn’t they be certain: other startups more our size, such as Apollo (remember them?), Silicon Graphics (they fought the good fight!), and the incredibly cool Symbolics are memories. Wait! There was also a BIG company, DEC, who scoffed at us: they are history, too. In fact, we really upset them with what was supposed to be an internal-only video production that was a take-off on Bruce Lee movies, in which we battled the evil Doctor DEC – complete with computer mice (or is that “mouses”?) wielded like nun chucks with the new SPARCstation 1 somehow in the middle of everything. The memory is vivid, but the details hazy. After all, that was almost a quarter century ago. So, here’s to Oracle’s SPARC: still going strong after all these years. – Kemer

Using HTML5 Today part 4–What happened to XHTML?

This is the fourth entry in a series of descriptions & demos from the “Using HTML5 Today” user group presentation. For practical purposes, the original XHTML standard is a historical footnote, although XHTML transitional will probably live on forever in the default web page templates of old web page editors. The original XHTML spec was released in 2000, on the heels of the HTML 4.01 spec. The plan was to move web development away from HTML to the more formal, rigorous approach that XHTML offered, but it was built on a principle that conflicts with the history and culture of the Internet: XHTML introduced the idea of Draconian Error Handling, which essentially means that invalid XML markup on a page will cause a page to stop rendering. There is a transitional mode offered in the original XHTML spec, but the goal was to move to D.E.H. You can see the result by changing the doc type for a document to “application/xhtml+xml” - for my class example we change this setting in the web.config file: <staticContent> <remove fileExtension=".html" /> <mimeMap fileExtension=".html" mimeType="application/xhtml+xml" /> </staticContent> With the new strict syntax a simple error, in this case a duplicate </td> tag, can cause a critical page error: While XHTML became very popular in the ensuing decade, the Strict form of XHTML never achieved widespread use. Draconian Error Handling was one of the factors that led in time to the creation of the WHATWG, or Web Hypertext Application Technology Group. WHATWG contributed to the eventually disbanding of the XHTML 2.0 working group and the W3C’s move to embrace the HTML5 standard. For developers who long for XML markup the W3C HTML5 standard includes an XHTML5 syntax. Questions about TinyMCE. Or suggestions on a compariable product.

Hi I am using jquery 1.3.2 and asp.net mvc 1.0. Originally I was using some other rich html editor but I ran into one major problem when a user pasted in text from open office or MS office it would bring along tons of styling junk. If a user like wrote one sentence what was like 25 characters and pasted that into my current html editor the count would 25,000 characters and I don't want to store all that junk( I can't afford to). So tinyMCE seems to not have this problem. However I got some questions. It seems if you want to use for commercial use(what my site is but currently is not making very much at this time) you need to get a commercial license. However it does not say if it is free or if it will cost money. I am assuming it means that you will have to pay but I would like to confirm this. So do you have to pay for a license to use tinyMCe if your using it for commercial use? (Yes/ No) ------------------ Answer the following questions if you said "no" to the first question ----------- So would I use the jQuery package then or is it better to use the other versions? What is this .net compressor zip for? Do I need it? I only want a few of the buttons(like bold,font size) can I remove the other buttons? It seems to display a word count. Can it be changed to character count? ----------------- Answer the following question if you said "yes" to the first question -------- Is there a rich html editor that is free for commercial use and preferably for jquery that can remove the junk that office programs seem to bring along? How to parse out MS Word formatting?

I have a rich html textbox on my asp.net mvc application. The rich html textbox is some jquery plugin that I use and has basic stuff like bold,underline and etc. Now I am anticipating that people will maybe write something in word and then copy and paste it into my textbox. However I limit the number of characters a person can have. This is a test to show how much formatting gets made. • One • Two • Three So I wrote that above(it does not copy to well into here). Basically it is a line of text and "how" is bold and the "one,two,three" are a bullet list. Word says it is 70 characters long with spacing. Hi All, We developed navigation bar using jQuery 1.4.2. Functionality is to show submneus for different menu items when user hovers on it. It is working perfectly in IE6 but we see some weird problems in other browsers. In Firefox, when the page gets loaded, it works fine but when we hit f5, the submenu wont appear on hover. To get submenu we need to click on any other menu item. In Chrome, its the same to add on, some time even we click on any menu item, and hover submenu wont show up. In Safari, nothing shows up most of the times, but on clicking 5-6 menu items, submenu is shown.When we see loading text in safari it shows the submenu. but on every click the loading text wont appear.. We are very much confused..is it the browser behavior/code/jquery?? I enabled HTTPS on the Apache server (2.2.15) Windows 7 Enterprise by uncommenting: Include /private/etc/apache2/extra/httpd-ssl.conf in C:\Program Files (x86)\Apache Software Foundation\Apache2.2\conf\httpd.conf and modifying C:\Program Files (x86)\Apache Software Foundation\Apache2.2\conf\httpd-ssl.conf to include: DocumentRoot "C:/Program Files (x86)/Apache Software Foundation/Apache2.2/htdocs" ServerName myserver.com:443 ServerAdmin [email protected] ... (OS 5)Access is denied. : Init: Can't open server certificate file C:/Program Files (x86)/Apache Software Foundation/Apache2.2/conf/cert.pem I checked the permissions for cert.pem and it indicates: All the permissions (Full control, Read, Read and modify, execute, Write) are marked for Admin and I am currently logged in as Admin. I tried using oldcert.pem and oldkey.pem on the same server and it works fine. Is there anything that I missed?

I want be able to connect the shell to everything socat can handle (socks5, udp, openssl), but also to have a nice shell which correctly interprets all keys, various Ctrl+C/Ctrl+Z and jobs control. Update: Found "setsid" socat option. It fixes "no job control". Now trying to fix Ctrl+D.

List repositories from multiple projects in Trac using mod_python

Currently working on a customized webpage that shows the available projects I have in Trac (1.0.1). I am using mod_python to connect the trac interface. I found a standard page for this, but it didn't show listing of repositories. The page showed some variables to link to the different projects, but I can't find variables to the different repositories inside the projects. Is there a simple way to find the rest of the variables ? And how hard is it to add more variables? Will it perhaps be easier to do this an alternative way ? If I have an image with a table containing several rows, say like the periodic table: Are there any tool I can use to split this into one smaller image with the H He row, another image for the Li Be ... Ne row, etc? The tool does not have to detect the row borders by itself, specifying a start offset + row height in pixels is ok. Manually selecting and cutting/copying in gimp is not an option, I have way to many rows to process.

Preventing FIN_WAIT2 when closing socket

I have a server program that connects to another program via a given socket, and in certain cases I need to close the connection and almost immediately re-open it on the same socket. This by and large works, except that I have to wait exactly one minute for the socket to reset. In the meantime, netstat indicates that the server sees the socket in FIN_WAIT2 and the client sees it as CLOSE_WAIT. I'm already using SO_REUSEADDR, which I thought would prevent the wait, but that isn't doing the trick. Setting SO_LINGER to zero also does not help. What else can I do to resolve this? Microsoft, jQuery, and Templating

About two months ago, John Resig and I met at Café Algiers in Harvard square to discuss how Microsoft can contribute to the jQuery project. Today, Scott Guthrie announced in his second-day MIX keynote that Microsoft is throwing its weight behind jQuery and making it the primary way to develop client-side Ajax applications using Microsoft technologies. What does this announcement mean? It means that Microsoft is shifting its resources to invest in jQuery. Developers on the ASP.NET team are now working full-time to contribute features to the core jQuery library. Furthermore, we are working with other teams at Microsoft to ensure that our technologies work great with jQuery. We are contributing to the open-source jQuery project in the exact same way that any other company or individual from the community can contribute to jQuery. We are writing proposals, submitting the proposals to the jQuery forums, and revising the proposals in response to community feedback. The jQuery team can decide to reject or accept any feature that we propose. Any feature that Microsoft contributes to jQuery will be platform neutral. In other words, Microsoft contributions will benefit PHP and RAILS developers just as much as they benefit ASP.NET developers. Microsoft contributions to jQuery will improve the web for everyone. Contributing Support for Templates to jQuery Core Our first proposal concerns templating. We want to contribute support for templates to jQuery so that JavaScript developers can use jQuery to easily display a set of database records. When the page above is rendered, you get the bulleted list displayed in the following figure. Our goal is to keep our proposal for templates as simple as possible. After support for templating has been added to jQuery, plug-in authors can take advantage of templating when building complex data-driven plug-ins such as a DataGrid plug-in. The Ajax Control Toolkit Over 100,000 developers download the Ajax Control Toolkit every month. That’s a mind-boggling number of downloads. We realize that the Ajax Control Toolkit is extremely popular among ASP.NET Web Forms developers and we want to continue to invest in the Ajax Control Toolkit. If you are adding JavaScript interactivity to an ASP.NET Web Forms application, and you don’t want to write JavaScript, then we recommend that you use the server controls in the Ajax Control Toolkit. Using the Ajax Control Toolkit does not require knowledge of JavaScript and the toolkit enables you to build applications with the concepts familiar to ASP.NET Web Forms applications developers. If, however, you are interested in creating client-side interactivity without server controls then we recommend that you use jQuery. We plan to continue to release new versions of the Ajax Control Toolkit every few months. Our goal is to continue to improve the quality of the Ajax Control Toolkit and to make it easier for the community to contribute code, bug fixes, and documentation. The ASP.NET Ajax Library We are moving the ASP.NET Ajax Library into the Ajax Control Toolkit. If you currently use ASP.NET Ajax Library client templates, client data-binding, or the client script loader then you can continue to use these features by downloading the Ajax Control Toolkit. Be aware that our focus with the Ajax Control Toolkit is server-side Ajax. For client-side Ajax, we are shifting our focus to jQuery. For example, if you have been using ASP.NET Ajax Library client templates then we recommend that you shift to using jQuery instead. Conclusion Our plan is to focus on jQuery as the primary technology for building client-side Ajax applications moving forward. We want to adapt Microsoft technologies to work great with jQuery and we want to contribute features to jQuery that will make the web better for everyone.
