  Is there any way for me to identify which OpenVZ container I am in, from inside the container? I am working on a setup where OpenVZ machines shall boot the same (read-only) disk image, so I can not configure them individually in the file system. I need a unique identification for each of the virtual servers, to be used by scripts running inside the OpenVZ containers. (I'm running Debian Lenny, BTW.)

I combined all dvd disk 's file, but I found the .gpg file I need and I can't create it. it looks like source's signature file. so when I set my /etc/apt/sources.list file as follow: deb http://192.168.1.102/apt/debian squeeze main contrib it noticed me the gpg files verilied faild. so I want to know , how to create gpg file, and do I need some other work except put DVD's file to the apache's htdocs path?

• Setup access to SAS RAID drives with NTFS partitions on CentOS Machine

  We have a Dell Poweredge 2900 system with Adaptec 39320A SCSI CONTROLLER CARD and 4 SAS hard drives attached, with NTFS partitions on them. We installed CentOS on the other raid array with a different controller and it is working fine. We are now trying to access the drives shown above and they are not being shown in /dev as sdb, etc. sda is the drive that we installed centos on and it has sda1, sda2, sda3, etc. The CDROM has been picked up as well. If I scan for scsi devices then the perc and adaptec controllers are both found. sg0 is the CDROM and sg2 is the centos installed, however I think sg1 is the other drive but I cannot see anyway to mount the partitions, as only the drive is listed in /dev. • Two different subwoofers aren't working on my machine or my phone

  I have speakers that come with my computer. Two small desktop speakers and a subwoofer with a base volume control on the back. It's worked for years. I was listening to Spotify on my speakers as loud they would possibly go and with the base turned up to max and suddenly the subwoofer stopped working. I've plugged the speakers into my Android HTC Desire Z handset and again, the desktop speakers play music but the subwoofer doesn't (even after fiddling with the volume control). So I figured I'd broken it. I went to Amazon and bought a replacement one. I bought this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002N46YD8/ref=pe_217191_31005151_dp_1 but it doesn't work either, on either my desktop nor my Android phone. I had a play with alsamixer and the LFE and center controls are switched on and the speakers are okay... but still no base. Am I unlucky enough to bought a new subwoofer which is already broken out of the box or is there something else which is wrong and I could look into please? Are there any other tests which I could perform to see if the problem is me or not?

  I've been looking at this as the same approach as building a desktop computer from scratch but I've never really come across the core things. Can I buy a laptop "case"? Can I buy a motherboard/PSU to fit that case? Can I choose a CPU fan? What are my battery options? Obviously taking into consideration the case. Why isn't this as easy as putting together a desktop computer? Shouldn't there be standards such as ATX? If they exist, what are they?

• Read floppy from OpenVMS machine

  I have a floppy I need to read the contents from - unfortunately it was formatted and the data written on an OpenVMS server. I believe the floppy is formatted "Files-11" and I can see parts of the MFT [equivalent] and file contents through a hex editor, however I would love to be able to mount this and actually read the files off. Is there a Files-11 FUSE module or other kernel module I can install to read this format? Any standalone utilities that can understand a floppy image taken with dd?

I need to replicate all at the new server (databases, jobs, DTSs, vinculated servers, etc). Edit: I mean SQLServer 2000 on both ends! Edit: Be calm, people, I just crossed the versions from another software I posted about at the same time as this. Effectively, I even checked the wikipedia to be sure version 8 was 2000.   Probably a silly question. We have two computers in the apartment running Windows 7 and Windows Vista. 99% of the time we use headphones but every now and then we have a desire for some ambiance so we got a set of 2.1 speakers. But now only one of us has access to the speakers unless we move them around every now and then. So I was wondering if it's possible to add the other computer's sound card as a hardware device on my computer so that I can configure, for instance, Winamp to play through the other computer's sound card, hence the speakers connected to the other computer.

• Synergy: avoid single machine loop when client is not connected

  In order to loop between my screens I have the following section in my synergy.sgc file: section: links Pedro-Acer: right = pedro-lubuntu left = pedro-lubuntu pedro-lubuntu: left = Pedro-Acer right = Pedro-Acer end With those settings When the client disconnects the server screen wraps around itself as seen in the image below. I don't want this behavior. The only reason I set the config file to loop between my screens is because I want to have a single key to switch between them: keystroke(alt+`) = switchInDirection(right) If there is way to have a single key for switching in both directions without having looping screens then that would also solve my problem.

• Time Machine/iMac loses all trace of external hard drive after a few days

  First time posting, also a Mac newbie (recent windows convert) so I'm hoping I can get some help here :) I have a Hitachi Deskstar drive in an external casing that I got from ebuyer. (its one of those unknown fairly cheapish enclosures) connected via firewire. I hook it up and it works fine, but then at some point over the next week or so I'll realise that my last update was 3 days ago or so. At this point the Mac will not recognise the drive as existing and the only thing to do is switch off and on the external enclosure. It then works fine for a while. If I had to guess I'm assuming its powering down or something when the Mac goes into standby? Is there anyway to solve this?

• VMware - Watching multiple virtual machine screens

  Hi, I don't know even if I put the question right, but here's what I'd like to accomplish. I have avoided specifying exact Vmware virtualization product here because I'm not sure which one would be most suitable for the task at hand. I am developing an application that works in local network. This application has to run on several computers at the same time, and it's important to me, as a developer and tester, to see (literally) how it behaves at all times on all computers. Is there any way to connect to screens of virtual machines deployed on ESX, ESXi, Sever 2.0, or some other product, so that I can see something like grid of screens, say 4x4 or 6x4 or whatever number of scaled screens, at the same time? Ability to interact with screens directly from grid (by double-clicking a screen, for instance, and then getting full resolution screen) would be greatly appreciated, of course. I hope that someone understood what I meant here. :)

• Machine only responds to network requests from machines it is pinging

  I have two machines. WOPR: Ubuntu server edition 10.10 LTS 32 bit Adam Selene: Windows 7 home premium 64 bit / Ubuntu Desktop 10.10 LTS 64 bit I want to be able to SSH from Adam Selene to WOPR, so I connect them to the same network. Here's where things get weird. I cannot connect to WOPR in any way under normal circumstances. But, if WOPR is pinging Adam, then it starts responding to ping requests, HTTP gets, and SSH tunnels. I'm an amateur, and brand new to Ubuntu server, so I suspect there's a misconfiguration somewhere, but there's an off chance it's a bug in the OS. Does anyone know what might cause this behavior? • CPU temperatures high on new build after gaming

  My friend had a problem with his computer a while back. His games were crashing, even within the menus. He was stumped as to what the problem was, so I posted on here requesting help. He found out the day later, when his computer would start up but wouldn't display anything on the screen. His video card must have came screwed up. So, he got a replacement. Now, there's a new problem. His temperatures, which were acceptable before, are now insanely high. His GPU temperature runs 70-80c, which is understandable considering he's running his games maxed out, but the real problem here is his processor and motherboard temperatures. All four of his cores are running at 88-90c after coming out of a game. His motherboard temperature was also 70c at one point. In terms of cooling, his case should definitely be adequate. He has an Antec Twelve Hundred. He's using stock fans. The cable management in his case is very good; better than average. He's using the stock heatsink with the processor too, but note, it was fine before the replacement, so it isn't like there's some inherent problem. He has checked the case too. Everything's fine! No cables in the way. The heatsink is seated properly. He turned his case fans up to high, as well, but the temperatures are persisting. Could the processor be overheating due to running games maxed out? Any ideas?

  I'm looking for a tool that is able to (remotely) monitor CPU and Memory in a Windows server but most importantly, which service/process is using it. Or-- is it possible to monitor a specific running service? We got a server that freezes on regular basis and we're trying to find the culprit without using a local debugger. Would be great if the monitoring software came with an agent that we can install on the remote clients for maximum accuracy. Any suggestions are very much appreciated.

  On a 32-bit Windows 2008 server running the Donor2 Application in the Classic .NET Managed Pipeline mode, configured for Windows Integrated Authentication and Impersonation, all of the .NET pages are passing the authenticated user’s credentials [DomainName\UserName]. This is the correct, expected behavior. The Crystal Reports pages, instead of passing the authenticated user’s credentials, are passing the IIS Server’s credentials [DomainName\MachineName$]. One of the very frustrating aspects of this situation is that I have another server which, as far as I can tell, is configured identically. That server, when loading Crystal Reports, is passing the authenticated user’s credentials [DomainName\UserName] as expected. I have obviously missed something, but I have no idea what it could be.

I have a server inside my intranet, in wich i have apache running with some web applications. when i'm at office the url i use to connect is zeus.mydomain.it, it works couse i have in my /etc/hosts a record 192.168.0.11 zeus.mydomain.it, but obviously it does not work when i'm outside in different network. i have a internet connectino with static ip, so i can connect to my intranet form outside. the question is: how can i connect to the intranet server using zeus.mydomain.it from inside and from outside my intranet ? thanks!! • Keyboard repeat on Input Director slave machine.

  I'm using Input Director as a software KVM to control my laptop from my desktop, and all is almost OK with the setup. However, key-presses on the master keyboard seem to repeat very easily on the slave, and it is close to impossible to type a word on the slave without getting repeated characters. I typed the word 'repeat' on the master keyboard and my editor on the slave captured the characters 'repeeaatt'. Both machines are Windows 7.

• Prioritizing a KVM virtual machine

  I have a CentOS 6.2 server running a few KVM VMs, how can I prioritize one of them above the others? I tried: virsh dumpxml vm > vm.xml and then adding to vm.xml <cputune> <shares>10240</shares> <period>100000</period> <quota>-1</quota> </cputune> and then virsh define vm.xml but it looks like nothing changed... Am I missing something? How could I check if my "cputune" is in effect?
