  • Computer does not switch on after power outage

    VOLTAGE DROP OFF FOR PC does not restart The other day my pc was turned off due to power outage. Since that time the computer would not turn on again, no sign of life, it seems dead. I did several tests, changed the power outlet and disconnect the wires ... also I have reseated the cards ... but the result is that nothing changes. What can I do? Could there may be damage to the hardware due to the power outage? Note: the voltage drop is not due to a lightning storm and so is not due to damaged components (burnt card etc ...)   • exim configuration: 503 AUTH command used when not advertised

    I'm running a piece of software on a Windows server that sends email notifications via a remote SMTP server. It has very few configuration options, and only supports basic SMTP authentication without SSL/TLS. I have exim4 running on a Debian server that will be the SMTP server for this Windows program. It is set up with default configuration, plus allowing AUTH PLAIN and AUTH LOGIN unencrypted connections. I have successfully sent an email over telnet: telnet servername 25 ehlo test 250-AUTH PLAIN LOGIN ... auth plain XXX 235 Authentication succeeded mail from: ... ... However, the program I want to connect to this server fails to connect. To see why, I ran a packet sniffer during the connection, and see the following session: C: HELO hostname S: 250 Hello hostname C: AUTH LOGIN XXX | XXX S: 503 AUTH command used when not advertised | 500 unrecognized command C: QUIT S: 221 closing connection I'm not familiar enough with the SMTP protocol to understand what's going on here. What do I need to change on my exim4 SMTP server to allow for this connection to be made?

  • Ubuntu : apt-get command error

    I work with Ubuntu 10.04 everyday. Several days ago, when I release command sudo apt-get install .... it run very good, no error. I also able to open websites with my browser with no proxy. But, today, I got error. Every time I release the command, the connection redirected to an IP in my local network. I can see it in the terminal window. Several days ago I tried to connect to the internet throught the IP, by SSH tunneling. But I forget what I have done and there is no way home.     Is there some way to quickly toggle the state of volume normalization in Windows 7? When it's off watching movies late is tricky, and when it's on it messes with music in a bad way. It's a great feature, but argh, it requires me to make my way through so many dialogs... Any solution that requires no more than a couple of clicks or keystrokes is welcome - shortcuts, AutoHotkey, tray icon apps.

  • Configuring vlans on Cisco SG200 series switch with Ubuntu server

    I created a vlan on Ubuntu with vconfig tool with 21 as id and eth1 as the host port. I connected eth1 to one of the ports on the swtich (GE23) as all ports trunk by default. In the webgui I created a vlan named test with the id 21 and I made GE2 are port as an access port. In port to vlan mapping I selected vlan 21 and added it port GE2 by selecting untagged option. I have assigned 192.168.1.1/24 as the ip of eth1.21 on Ubuntu. If I connect another cleint pc to GE2 port with a ip of 192.168.1.2/24 I cannot ping the server ip (192.168.1.1/24). Ping from server to client also does not work. I inspected packets that are sent out eth1 on the server and I could see the vlan 21 tag. And I connect the other end of the cable to a different Linux pc and inspected the packets but no vlan tags can be seen. What could be preventing me from getting vlans working? Edit 1 screenshots:

  • Switch Windows 8 from a hybrid MBR/GPT => GPT only on Macbook Pro Retina

    I used DiskUtility+Bootcamp Wizard to setup my hard drive for Windows 8 (final MSDN). Somewhere in that process, the Apple tools turned my GPT disk into a hybrid MBR/GPT. All my 4 primary MBR partitions are used up, so when I try turning on Bitlocker in Windows 8, it complains about not finding a System drive. I know on Windows 8 the Bitlocker setup tries to create the 200(?)MB system partition if it's missing. However with all 4 partitions filled I suspect it can't create system drive = it can't find it = throws back an error like "BitLocker Setup could not find a target system drive. You may need to manually prepare your drive for BitLocker". I've already tried disabling hibernation, swap file etc. Now I'm thinking that if I were to get rid of the MBR scheme altogether, perhaps I can be alright within the GPT world without MBR's 4 primary partitions limit. So, how can I get rid of the MBR tables on the hybrid scheme in a manner that still leaves Mac OS and Windows 8 in working conditions? Details: Hardware is the MacbookPro Retina.     I have Windows 7 RTM, Office 2007 SP1, and a computer with English and Hebrew languages installed. In most programs (e.g. notepad), left ALT-SHIFT switches from Hebrew to English and vice versa. In word, it also usually works, but sometimes pressing left ALT-SHIFT just won't do anything. Is this a bug in Windows ? Word?

    I have a Windows Server 2008 instance on Amazon EC2 (Amazon's cloud compute platform, which provides VMs in the cloud). It has an external IP, and I have an admin account on the box. I would like to 'bootstrap' this instance remotely i.e. I want to run commands to download, install and configure apps on it, all without having to log on even once. Also, I cannot use psexec on the source computer. I have figured out how to do this to a remote, domain-joined computer using WMI. However, I have NOT been able to do for a remote computer on EC2. Here are some specific restrictions: The remote computer is not part of my domain, hence no Kerberos The remote computer does not have a cert I trust, or vice versa I am sure I am running into to some auth/trust restriction. Is there any way I can run a single command on the remote, given that I have admin privileges? I'm not tied down to using WMI, but I do need to run a command somehow. Feels like this should be a solved problem.

    I have a laptop with a second monitor connected in extended mode. Every time a UAC prompt comes up, both monitors dim, then about 1 or 2 seconds after the prompt goes away, the extended configuration disappears, leaving me with only the laptop monitor on. I can re-enable the extended monitor manually, but this is a pain. Any ideas?

    I'm trying to verify the PGP Signature of the latest version of KeePass 2.14's setup file against this signature, but this is the output I receive: C:\Program Files (x86)\GNU\GnuPG>gpg.exe --verify C:\Users\User\Desktop\KeePass-2.14-Setup.exe gpg: no valid OpenPGP data found. gpg: the signature could not be verified. Please remember that the signature file (.sig or .asc) should be the first file given on the command line. C:\Program Files (x86)\GNU\GnuPG> I found this command here, but it made no mention about ".sig" or ".asc" files, so I figured I did something wrong. By reading (http://www.gnupg.org/documentation/manuals/gnupg/gpgv.html#gpgv), I further tried the following: C:\Program Files (x86)\GNU\GnuPG>gpg.exe --pgpfile C:\Users\User\Desktop\KeePass-2.14-Setup.exe gpg: Invalid option "--pgpfile" C:\Program Files (x86)\GNU\GnuPG> As you can see, the results are quite obfuscating... I took a look at this on SuperUser (http://superuser.com/questions/16160/short-easy-to-understand-explanation-of-gpg-pgp-for-nontechnical-people - I couldn't use "a href" due to the built in spam filter that discriminates against users with < 10 rep; this is the same reason for the link above this link), but none of the links seemed to really address my question, at least not directly enough for me to get any idea on how to move forward on this. Can anybody here help me with the esoteric technicality of OpenPGP & the associated use of the GnuPG program? I've felt pretty dumb learning VBS, but this is beyond humiliating: it's absolutely debilitating and maiming whatever confidence I had with my IT skills (then again, I have no justification for making any boast either, as I have yet to get my A+ Cert, lol).

    Is there any free software that will detect the status of internet and shutdown the system when the internet disconnects? Or (more generally) can something run a task when the internet disconnects, and I can route it to shutdown the machine? I am downloading things overnight. But my problem is that sometimes the internet connection will be disconnected in the middle of the night, so there is no point in keeping the system running the rest of the night. So I need to avoid this problem by detecting the net connectivity.

    I have to test my website before my DNS is swtiched to the new server. My New server is having Plesk. I changed my hosts file to point to the new server and I tested the site. My Site is working fine. However, When I try to register I have 2 emails sent one to the user and one to the admin. Admin email id is same as the server name for example my site name is test.com the admin email is [email protected]. So email is not sent to the admin. I know the email is not sent because the Plesk his searching its own dns instead of Global public DNS. Do any one know how to make my site see public DNS on sending email in Plesk. If I set Goole Public DNS 8.8.8.8 for MS record will it work.. Please guide me. Thanks in advance..

    Hello, I am moving an e-commerce site to a new server. All has been successful and its time to change the DNS for the domain. It's a relatively popular site and I fear that during propagation orders will be split between the old database and the new one. The databases do contain content that is dependent of the server it is on (Cache path, upload directory, etc.) so I can't just point the old site to the new database.   • Windows Vista - Can Boot into Safe Mode Command Prompt, Cannot Access Flash Drive

    Hey there, Got a laptop dropped into my lap. Has Vista installed. Normal boot never gets past the login screen. Safe mode will get past, but just barely. I can try and start the task manager at that point, but it never opens. Only reliable way to do anything I've got is the safe mode command prompt... Boots up and logs in fine. I can't see anything noticably wrong via regedit, but it's been a long time since I've had to fix up a Windows box... not sure that I would. Problem I'm having, is that I want to run ComboFix/etc, but have no way to get them on there... When I pop a flash drive in, it seems to mount it (flash drive flickers as normal) but it never seems to be mounted... I cannot access it through any drive letter on the command line. I managed to start the device manager (devmgmt.msc) and the flash drive was recognized and listed... Any ideas on how to get this thing going again? (Short of a reinstall.) (It has no CD drive, either, so burning files to CD would not be easy...) Thanks! Adam

    As far as I know in order to use two subnets on one physical cable VLAN's are recommended. However, is it possible to achieve this (i.e: two subnets on one physical network) like 192.168.1.0/24 and 10.0.0.0/8 networks. What kind of problems or hidden rocks this way contains? With VLAN's it's possible to better isolate so users wouldn't easly sniff the other network. But in my environment it's okay if user on one subnet could listen to the traffic on another network. Is it the only problem?

  • Windows 7 resizes desktop when I switch of a monitor

    I have a workstation with two monitors and the desktop extended over them. I have a lot of applications open (generally maximized), and I have a personal preference which application is on which monitor (let's say editors on the right, data retrieval and display on the left). I have recently upgraded to a workstation with Windows 7 and when I power off a monitor (typically when going home at the end of the day), the desktop-expand-over-monitors disables and all applications are switched to the main monitor. (Also the taskbar I keep on the left resizes to about one icon's width.) This is highly annoying, since I now spend the first minutes of work each day switching the applications back that were on the monitor on the right. Is there a way to prevent this? (It says no here.) Is there software I could install that can prevent this?
