  • In addition to Google's First Click Free, should you whitelist search engine bots past a paywall?

    - by tobek
Our site has subscription-only pages - non-subscribed visitors see a snippet preview. As per Google's FCF requirements, your first 5 hits to a subscriber-only pages with .google. as the referrer, you see the full page. In addition to this, should we whitelist search engine bots so that they can index the full content? I assume this is not required for Google, which can use FCF to index our content, but what about other search engines? Is this considered cloaking? My gut says that whitelisting bots past the paywall is bad practice., but I wanted to confirm - any evidence or references would be amazing.

  • Displaying music list using custom lists instead of array adapters

    - by Rahul Varma
    Hi, I have displayed the music list in a list view. The list is obtained from a website. I have done this using Arraylist. Now, i want to iterate the same program using custom lists and custom adapters instead of array list. The code i have written using array lists is... public class MusicListActivity extends Activity { MediaPlayer mp; File mediaFile; TextView tv; TextView albumtext; TextView artisttext; ArrayList<String> al=new ArrayList<String>(); //ArrayList<String> al=new ArrayList<String>(); ArrayList<String> node=new ArrayList<String>(); ArrayList<String> filepath=new ArrayList<String>(); ArrayList<String> imgal=new ArrayList<String>(); ArrayList<String> album=new ArrayList<String>(); ArrayList<String> artist=new ArrayList<String>(); ListView lv; Object[] webImgListObject; String[] stringArray; XMLRPCClient client; String loginsess; HashMap<?, ?> siteConn = null; //ImageView im; Bitmap img; String s; int d; int j; StreamingMediaPlayer sm; int start=0; Intent i; @Override protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.openadiuofile); lv=(ListView)findViewById(R.id.list1); al=getIntent().getStringArrayListExtra("titles"); //node=getIntent().getStringArrayListExtra("nodeid"); filepath=getIntent().getStringArrayListExtra("apath"); imgal=getIntent().getStringArrayListExtra("imgpath"); album=getIntent().getStringArrayListExtra("album"); artist=getIntent().getStringArrayListExtra("artist"); // ArrayAdapter<String> aa=new ArrayAdapter<String>(this,R.layout.row,R.id.text2,al); //lv.setAdapter(aa); try{ lv.setAdapter( new styleadapter(this,R.layout.row, R.id.text2,al)); }catch(Throwable e) { Log.e("openaudio error",""+e.toString()); goBlooey(e); } lv.setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener(){ @Override public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> arg0, View arg1, int arg2, long arg3){ j=1; try{ d=arg2; String filep=filepath.get(d); String tit=al.get(d); String image=imgal.get(d); String singer=artist.get(d); String movie=album.get(d); sendpath(filep,tit,image,singer,movie); // getpath(n); }catch(Throwable t) { goBlooey(t); } } }); } @Override protected void onPause() { // TODO Auto-generated method stub super.onPause(); if(j==0) {i=new Intent(this,gorinkadashboard.class); startActivity(i);} } @Override protected void onResume() { // TODO Auto-generated method stub super.onResume(); j=0; } @Override public boolean onKeyDown(int keyCode, KeyEvent event) { if (keyCode==KeyEvent.KEYCODE_SEARCH) { Log.i("go","go"); return true; } return(super.onKeyDown(keyCode, event)); } public void sendpath(String n,String nn,String image,String singer,String movie) { Intent ii=new Intent(this,MusicPlayerActivity.class); ii.putExtra("path",n); ii.putExtra("titletxt",nn); //ii.putStringArrayListExtra("playpath",filepath); ii.putExtra("pos",d); ii.putExtra("image",image); ii.putStringArrayListExtra("imagepath",imgal); ii.putStringArrayListExtra("filepath", filepath); startActivity(ii); } class styleadapter extends ArrayAdapter<String> { Context context=null; public styleadapter(Context context, int resource, int textViewResourceId, List<String> objects) { super(context, resource, textViewResourceId, objects); this.context=context; } @Override public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) { final int i=position; LayoutInflater inflater = ((Activity) context).getLayoutInflater(); View v = inflater.inflate(R.layout.row, null); tv=(TextView)v.findViewById(R.id.text2); albumtext=(TextView)v.findViewById(R.id.text3); artisttext=(TextView)v.findViewById(R.id.text1); tv.setText(al.get(i)); albumtext.setText(album.get(i)); artisttext.setText(artist.get(i)); // im.forceLayout(); // v2.postInvalidate(); // v2.requestLayout(); } catch (Exception t) { Log.e("bitmap url", "Exception in updateStatus()", t); //goBlooey(t); // throw new RuntimeException(t); } } } private void goBlooey(Throwable t) { AlertDialog.Builder builder=new AlertDialog.Builder(this); builder .setTitle("Exception!") .setMessage(t.toString()) .setPositiveButton("OK", null) .show(); } } I have created the SongList.java, SongsAdapter.java and also SongsAdapterView.java. Their code is... public class SongsList { private String titleName; private String movieName; private String singerName; private String imagePath; private String mediaPath; // Constructor for the SongsList class public SongsList(String titleName, String movieName, String singerName,String imagePath,String mediaPath ) { super(); this.titleName = titleName; this.movieName = movieName; this.singerName = singerName; this.imagePath = imagePath; this.mediaPath = mediaPath; } public String gettitleName() { return titleName; } public void settitleName(String titleName) { this.titleName = titleName; } public String getmovieName() { return movieName; } public void setmovieName(String movieName) { this.movieName = movieName; } public String getsingerName() { return singerName; } public void setsingerName(String singerName) { this.singerName = singerName; } public String getimagePath() { return imagePath; } public void setimagePath(String imagePath) { this.imagePath = imagePath; } public String getmediaPath() { return mediaPath; } public void setmediaPath(String mediaPath) { this.mediaPath = mediaPath; } } public class SongsAdapter extends BaseAdapter{ private Context context; private List<SongsList> listSongs; public SongsAdapter(Context context, List<SongsList> listPhonebook){ this.context = context; this.listSongs = listSongs; } public int getCount() { return listSongs.size(); } public Object getItem(int position) { return listSongs.get(position); } public long getItemId(int position) { return position; } public View getView(int position, View view, ViewGroup viewGroup) { SongsList entry = listSongs.get(position); return new SongsAdapterView(context,entry); } } public SongsAdapterView(Context context, SongsList entry) { super(context); this.setOrientation(VERTICAL); this.setTag(entry); // TODO Auto-generated constructor stub View v = inflate(context, R.layout.row, null); TextView tvTitle = (TextView)v.findViewById(R.id.text2); tvTitle.setText(entry.gettitleName()); TextView tvMovie = (TextView)v.findViewById(R.id.text3); tvTitle.setText(entry.getmovieName()); TextView tvSinger = (TextView)v.findViewById(R.id.text1); tvTitle.setText(entry.getsingerName()); addView(v); } } Can anyone please tell me how to display the list using custom lists and custom adapters using the code above???

  • "database already closed" is shown using a custom cursor adapter

    - by kiduxa
I'm using a cursor with a custom adapter that extends SimpleCursorAdapter: public class ListWordAdapter extends SimpleCursorAdapter { private LayoutInflater inflater; private Cursor mCursor; private int mLayout; private String[] from; private int[] to; public ListWordAdapter(Context context, int layout, Cursor c, String[] from, int[] to, int flags) { super(context, layout, c, from, to, flags); this.mCursor = c; this.inflater = LayoutInflater.from(context); this.mLayout = layout; this.from = from; this.to = to; } private static class ViewHolder { //public ImageView img; public TextView name; public TextView type; public TextView translate; } @Override public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) { if (mCursor.moveToPosition(position)) { ViewHolder holder; if (convertView == null) { convertView = inflater.inflate(mLayout, null); holder = new ViewHolder(); // holder.img = (ImageView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.img_row); holder.name = (TextView) convertView.findViewById(to[0]); holder.type = (TextView) convertView.findViewById(to[1]); holder.translate = (TextView) convertView.findViewById(to[2]); convertView.setTag(holder); } else { holder = (ViewHolder) convertView.getTag(); } holder.name.setText(mCursor.getString(mCursor.getColumnIndex(from[0]))); holder.type.setText(mCursor.getString(mCursor.getColumnIndex(from[1]))); holder.translate.setText(mCursor.getString(mCursor.getColumnIndex(from[2]))); // holder.img.setImageResource(img_resource); } return convertView; } } And in the main activity I call it as: adapter = new ListWordAdapter(getSherlockActivity(), R.layout.row_list_words, mCursorWords, from, to, 0); When a modification in the list is made, I call this method: public void onWordSaved() { WordDAO wordsDao = new WordSqliteDAO(); Cursor mCursorWords = wordsDao.list(getSherlockActivity()); adapter.changeCursor(mCursorWords); } The thing here is that this produces me this exception: 10-29 What's wrong with my custom adapter implementation? The line in bold in the stack trace corresponds with: if (mCursor.moveToPosition(position)) inside getView method. EDIT: I have created a custom class to manage DB operations as open and close: public class ConexionBD { private Context context; private SQLiteDatabase database; private DataBaseHelper dbHelper; public ConexionBD(Context context) { this.context = context; } public ConexionBD open() throws SQLException { this.dbHelper = DataBaseHelper.getInstance(context); this.database = dbHelper.getWritableDatabase(); database.execSQL("PRAGMA foreign_keys=ON"); return this; } public void close() { if (database.isOpen() && database != null) { dbHelper.close(); } } /*Getters y setters*/ public SQLiteDatabase getDatabase() { return database; } public void setDatabase(SQLiteDatabase database) { this.database = database; } } And this is my DataBaseHelper: public class DataBaseHelper extends SQLiteOpenHelper { private static final String DATABASE_NAME = "myDb"; private static final int DATABASE_VERSION = 1; private static DataBaseHelper sInstance = null; public static DataBaseHelper getInstance(Context context) { // Use the application context, which will ensure that you // don't accidentally leak an Activity's context. // See this article for more information: http://bit.ly/6LRzfx if (sInstance == null) { sInstance = new DataBaseHelper(context.getApplicationContext()); } return sInstance; } @Override public void onCreate(SQLiteDatabase database) { ... } .... And this is an example of how I manage a query: public Cursor list(Context context) { ConexionBD conexion = new ConexionBD(context); Cursor mCursor = null; try{ conexion.open(); mCursor = conexion.getDatabase().query(DataBaseHelper.TABLE_WORD , null , null, null, null, null, Word.NAME); if (mCursor != null) { mCursor.moveToFirst(); } }finally{ conexion.close(); } return mCursor; } For every connection to the DB I open it and close it.

  • What are good places to find free XAML images?

    - by Josip Medved
As I started using WPF at higher DPI resolutions, I got into troubles with scaling of toolbar images. XAML images solve that problem. However I find it very hard to find free toolbar/ribbon XAML images that you can use in your own projects. What I found is usually not free and one probably needs more than few collections to get all needed images. Where do you find your toolbar/ribbon .xaml images?

  • Is there a free (LGPL compatible) Grid plugin for jQuery that has similiar capabilities to the Ext-J

    - by Ehrann Mehdan
One of the most appealing features of Ext-JS is the Grid control in my opinion. I was searching for something free that does something close and have set my hopes on jQuery. I haven't found a jQuery (or other LGPL compatible) Table / Grid plugin that allows to: Reorder columns by dragging Resize columns by dragging Add or Remove columns on the fly Have a default good looking UI (subjective, but Ext-JS look I think is a concensus) In addition to the rest most grid controls have (Sort, Paging etc) Is there a free (LGPL) jQuery plugin that does the above?

  • Options and best practices to release free and paid version of the same app to Android Market

    - by Rich
I have installed a couple of free apps on my Android phone and then later "upgraded" to the paid full version. My first instincts for doing the same would be to create two apps with the same package name so that installing one overwrites the other, but apps in the Market must be unique by package name. What are some patterns and best practices for sharing code and resources for free and paid versions of the same app and any naming conventions or project structures that work for this scenario as well?

  • What full featured (free) obfuscator do you all use?

    - by mike79
I've just spent thousands of dollars on VSTS 2008 and thought that the usual Dotfuscaor Comunity Edition would've been upgraded to the pro version in this version of visual studio. After spending a fortune on Visual Studio Team Suite you would think you would get a full featured obfuscator for free. Now I have to spend another couple K for a PreEmptive Dotobfuscator license. What gives? What full featured (free) obfuscator do you all use?

  • What do you call a set of Javascript closures that share a common context?

    - by Ed Stauff
I've been trying to learn closures (in Javascript), which kind of hurts my brain after way too many years with C# and C++. I think I now have a basic understanding, but one thing bothers me: I've visited lots of websites in this Quest for Knowledge, and nowhere have I seen a word (or even a simple two-word phrase) that means "a set of Javascript closures that share a common execution context". For example: function CreateThingy (name, initialValue) { var myName = name; var myValue = initialValue; var retObj = new Object; retObj.getName = function() { return myName; } retObj.getValue = function() { return myValue; } retObj.setValue = function(newValue) { myValue = newValue; } return retObj; }; From what I've read, this seems to be one common way of implementing data hiding. The value returned by CreateThingy is, of course, an object, but what would you call the set of functions which are properties of that object? Each one is a closure, but I'd like a name I can used to describe (and think about) all of them together as one conceptual entity, and I'd rather use a commonly accepted name than make one up. Thanks! -- Ed
