  • Java: dangerous self-returning-recursive function by IOException?

    - by HH
    I had very errorsome Exception handling with if-clauses. An exception occurs if not found path. An exception returns the function again. The function is recursive. Safe? $ javac SubDirs.java $ java SubDirs Give me an path. . HELLO com TOASHEOU google common annotations base collect internal Give me an path. IT WON'T FIND ME, SO IT RETURNS ITSELF due to Exception caught Give me an path. $ cat SubDirs.java import java.io.*; import java.util.*; public class SubDirs { private List<File> getSubdirs(File file) throws IOException { List<File> subdirs = Arrays.asList(file.listFiles(new FileFilter() { public boolean accept(File f) { return f.isDirectory(); } })); subdirs = new ArrayList<File>(subdirs); List<File> deepSubdirs = new ArrayList<File>(); for(File subdir : subdirs) { deepSubdirs.addAll(getSubdirs(subdir)); } subdirs.addAll(deepSubdirs); return subdirs; } public static void search() { try{ BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(System.in)); String s; System.out.println("Give me an path."); while ((s = in.readLine()) != null && s.length() != 0){ SubDirs dirs = new SubDirs(); List<File> subDirs = dirs.getSubdirs(new File(s)); for ( File f : subDirs ) { System.out.println(f.getName()); } System.out.println("Give me an path."); } }catch(Exception e){ // Simple but is it safe? search(); } } public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException { search(); } }

  • Parsing a .NET DataSet returned from a .NET Web Service in Java

    - by Chris Dail
I have to consume a .NET hosted web service from a Java application. Interoperability between the two is usually very good. The problem I'm running into is that the .NET application developer chose to expose data using the .NET DataSet object. There are lots of articles written as to why you should not do this and how it makes interoperability difficult: http://www.hanselman.com/blog/ReturningDataSetsFromWebServicesIsTheSpawnOfSatanAndRepresentsAllThatIsTrulyEvilInTheWorld.aspx http://www.lhotka.net/weblog/ThoughtsOnPassingDataSetObjectsViaWebServices.aspx http://aspnet.4guysfromrolla.com/articles/051805-1.aspx http://www.theserverside.net/tt/articles/showarticle.tss?id=Top5WSMistakes My problem is that despite this not being recommended practice, I am stuck with having to consume a web service returning a DataSet with Java. When you generate a proxy for something like this with anything other than .NET you basically end up with an object that looks like this: @XmlElement(namespace = "http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema", required = true) protected Schema schema; @XmlAnyElement(lax = true) protected Object any; This first field is the actual schema that should describe the DataSet. When I process this using JAX-WS and JAXB in Java, it bring all of XS-Schema in as Java objects to be represented here. Walking the object tree of JAXB is possible but not pretty. The any field represents the raw XML for the DataSet that is in the schema specified by the schema. The structure of the dataset is pretty consistent but the data types do change. I need access to the type information and the schema does vary from call to call. I've though of a few options but none seem like 'good' options. Trying to generate Java objects from the schema using JAXB at runtime seems to be a bad idea. This would be way too slow since it would need to happen everytime. Brute force walk the schema tree using the JAXB objects that JAX-WS brought in. Maybe instead of using JAXB to parse the schema it would be easier to deal with it as XML and use XPath to try and find the type information I need. Are there other options I have not considered? Is there a Java library to parse DataSet objects easily? What have other people done who may have similar situations?

  • Difference between C# and java big endian bytes using miscutil

    - by Eric Hauser
I'm using the miscutil library to communicate between and Java and C# application using a socket. I am trying to figure out the difference between the following code (this is Groovy, but the Java result is the same): import java.io.* def baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); def stream = new DataOutputStream(baos); stream.writeInt(5000) baos.toByteArray().each { println it } /* outputs - 0, 0, 19, -120 */ and C#: using (var ms = new MemoryStream()) using (EndianBinaryWriter writer = new EndianBinaryWriter(EndianBitConverter.Big, ms, Encoding.UTF8)) { writer.Write(5000); ms.Position = 0; foreach (byte bb in ms.ToArray()) { Console.WriteLine(bb); } } /* outputs - 0, 0, 19, 136 */ As you can see, the last byte is -120 in the Java version and 136 in C#.

  • Netbeans 6.8 groovy files in src/main/java

    - by Jeff Storey
I have a new netbeans maven/groovy project, and I actually prefer to mix my java and groovy files in src/main/java and src/test/java (I find it easier to navigate this way and my pom reflects this configuration). However, when I have my project setup this way in Netbeans 6.8, it always shows the generated-sources folder in error. The stubs generated from groovy files in src/test/java can't be opened by netbeans and given an error that they can't be parsed. However, in windows explorer the files are in tact. Netbeans can run the project but it continues to prompt me that some files are in error (even though I know they're not). It's like netbeans isn't refreshing itself. Any thoughts on how to fix this? thanks, Jeff

  • Using PHP SoapClient with Java JAX-WS RI (Webservice)

    - by Kau-Boy
For a new project, we want to build a web service in JAVA using JAX-WS RI and for the web service client, we want to use PHP. In a small tutorial about JAX-WS RI I found this example web service: package webservice; import javax.jws.WebService; import javax.jws.soap.SOAPBinding; import javax.jws.soap.SOAPBinding.Style; @WebService @SOAPBinding(style = Style.RPC) public class Calculator { public long addValues(int val1, int val2) { return val1 + val2; } } and for the web server: package webservice; import javax.xml.ws.Endpoint; import webservice.Calculator; public class CalculatorServer { public static void main(String args[]) { Calculator server = new Calculator(); Endpoint endpoint = Endpoint.publish("http://localhost:8080/calculator", server); } } Starting the Server and browsing the WDSL with the URL "http://localhost:8080/calculator?wsdl" works perfectly. But calling the web service from PHP fails My very simple PHP call looks like this: $client = new SoapClient('http://localhost:8080/calculator?wsdl', array('trace' => 1)); echo 'Sum: '.$client->addValues(4, 5); But than I either get a "Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 60 seconds exceeded..." or a "Uncaught SoapFault exception: [WSDL] SOAP-ERROR: Parsing WSDL: Couldn't load from 'http://localhost:8080/calculator?wsdl' ..." exception. I have tested the PHP SoapClient() with other web services and they work without any issues. Is there a known issue with JAX-WS RI in comibation with PHP, or is there an error in my web service I didn't see? I have found this bug report, but even updating to PHP 5.3.2 doesn't solved the problem. Can anyone tell me what to do? And by the way, my java version running on Windows 7 x64 is the following: java version "1.6.0_17" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_17-b04) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 14.3-b01, mixed mode)

  • Visual Studio for Java ?

    - by asksuperuser
Did anybody have the idea to create a Visual Studio extension for Java ? Somebody wrote an article here: http://www.improve.dk/blog/2007/09/29/compiling-java-in-visual-studio But nobody seems to have the idea of using the free visual studio isolated shell to create an IDE for Java?

  • Why use I-prefix for interfaces in Java?

    - by Lars Andren
Is there some reason why people use I-prefix for interfaces in Java? It seems to be a C#-convention spilling over. For C# it makes sense, as the answers to this question explains. However, for Java a class declaration clearly states which class that is extended and which interfaces that are implemented: public class Crow extends Animal implements Bird I think Joshua Bloch didn't suggest this in Effective Java, and I think he usually makes a lot of sense. I get the I-verbing as presented in an answer to the question above, but is there some other use with this convention for Java?

  • hpricot using java?

    - by Pablo Fernandez
I've just noticed that most of hpricot code is written in java... I heard that JRuby performed a lot better than native ruby when processing regular expression. Is maybe the java classes just activated if JRuby or Java is installed and the ruby used if these are not found? It's something puzzling indeed. Thanks

  • Java and C#, how close are they?

    - by prosseek
I've been using C/C++ and Python pretty seriously, but I now I see that a lot of new programming books use Java or C# as examples. I don't think I'll use Java or C# for the time being, but I guess I have to study one of the languages (or both of them) in order to read and understand the books. How similar Java and C#? If I learn Java, is learning C# almost free? Or vice versa? If I have to choose only one of the two languages, which would be better? Which has wider coverage in terms of programming language?

  • Calling Python from Java through scripting engine (jython)?

I'm trying to call Jython from a Java 6 application using javax.script: import javax.script.ScriptEngine; import javax.script.ScriptEngineManager; import javax.script.ScriptException; public class jythonEx { public static void main (String args[]) throws ScriptException { ScriptEngineManager mgr = new ScriptEngineManager(); ScriptEngine pyEngine = mgr.getEngineByName("python"); try { pyEngine.eval("print \"Python - Hello, world!\""); } catch (Exception ex) { ex.printStackTrace(); } } } This is causing a NullPointerException: java.lang.NullPointerException at jythonEx.main(jythonEx.java:12) Does anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong here? Edit: Thanks for the responses! I added jython.jar to the classpath and it runs properly: java -cp "./;jython.jar" jythonEx

  • Deadlock in ThreadPoolExecutor

    - by Vitaly
Encountered a situation when ThreadPoolExecutor is parked in execute(Runnable) function while all the ThreadPool threads are waiting in getTask func, workQueue is empty. Does anybody have any ideas? The ThreadPoolExecutor is created with ArrayBlockingQueue, corePoolSize == maximumPoolSize = 4 [Edit] To be more precise, the thread is blocked in ThreadPoolExecutor.exec(Runnable command) func. It has the task to execute, but doesn't do it. [Edit2] The executor is blocked somewhere inside the working queue (ArrayBlockingQueue). • What device manufacturers have their own Java ME API's

I know that BlackBerry and Nokia provide their own API's that go above and beyond what is specified in MIDP, CLDC, or any of the JSRs for Java ME. I am looking at a few other platforms for Java ME development and needed to know: Do Windows Mobile, LG, Samsung, ZTE, or Huawei provide their own API's for Java ME development?

  • How to detect Java agents, JVMTI, etc...

    - by Andrew Westberg
How does one secure the Java environment when running on a machine you don't control? What is to stop someone from creating a java agent or native JVMTI agent and dumping bytecode or re-writing classes to bypass licensing and/or other security checks? Is there any way to detect if any agents are running from Java code? From JNI? From a JVMTI agent?
