  • Useful Eclipse Java Code Templates

    - by Jon
You can create various Java code templates in Eclipse via the Window->Preferences->Java -> Editor -> Templates e.g. sysout is expanded to: System.out.println(${word_selection}${});${cursor} You can activate this by typing sysout followed by CTRL+SPACE What useful Java code templates do you currently use? Include the name and description of it and why it's awesome. There's an open bounty on this for an original/novel use of a template rather than a built-in existing feature. Create Log4J logger Get swt color from display Syncexec - Eclipse Framework Singleton Pattern/Enum Singleton Generation Readfile Const Traceout Format String Comment Code Review String format Try Finally Lock Message Format i18n and log Equalsbuilder Hashcodebuilder Spring Object Injection Create FileOutputStream

  • PHP: Type hints for fields with Eclipse PDT

    - by Silvio Donnini
Using Eclipse + PDT, I know that you can specify the return type of a method or the type of a variable within a method via type hints. How about class fields? Can I declare the type of a field in order to enable autocompletion for that variable? I tried something on the lines of: class MyClass { protected $Field; /* @var $Field MyType */ ... but it doesn't work. Is there a way to achieve autocompletion of class fields with Eclipse and PDT? thanks, Silvio

  • How to create a folder in Eclipse?

    - by Polaris878
Hi, I'd like to create a folder under a package in Eclipse... The purpose of this folder is merely for organizational purposes. Meaning, I don't want it to be another package. Every time I try to add a folder under a package, it just creates a package instead. I'd like to have the following structure: project/src/package1/someClass.java project/src/package1/someFOLDER/anotherClass.java project/src/package1/package2/anotherFOLDER/oneOtherClass.java Is it possible to do this without adding a package? I come from a .NET/C# and C++ background... here I'd just add a folder and the reference to that class would be updated in the project. How can I just add an organizational folder in eclipse? Thanks

  • Eclipse 3.5 and Ubuntu 9.10, subversion client does not work

    - by Cédric Girard
Hi, I had installed Eclipse 3.5 Yoxos on my Ubuntu 8.04 for month, and run fine. I had upgraded to 9.10 last week, and the subversion plugin does not work since upgrade. When I try to update or commit, Subversion work for hours without any progress in console or progress bars. I can delete files or add them to SVN, but commands wich involve network just hang. SVN run fine using command line. I have already patched the GDK problem. Since this I can cancel update/commit without crashing Eclipse. Regards Cédric

  • Finding the order of method calls in Eclipse

    - by Chathuranga Chandrasekara
Suppose I have a big program that consists of hundreds of methods in it. And according to the nature of input the program flow is getting changed. Think I want to make a change to the original flow. And it is big hassle to find call hierarchy/ references and understand the flow. Do I have any solution for this within Eclipse? Or a plugin? As an example, I just need a Log of method names that is in order of time. Then I don't need to worry about the methods that are not relevant with my "given input" Update : Using debug mode in eclipse or adding print messages are not feasible. The program is sooooo big. :)

  • Open working copy file from eclipse history view

    - by Wolfgang
The history view of eclipse shows you a list of files changed in a certain revision. When you open the context menu on one of these you have the option 'Open' which opens a view of that file in that revision. How can I open the editor for the selected file, i.e. the file in the version of the working copy, right from the history view? Background is that I want to use the history view to find files that have been changed recently to do code reviewing. People commit via subversion and I use subclipse to connect eclipse to the subversion server. Today, I must use the 'Open resource'/'Open type' function and type the name of the file that I can read from the history view.

  • File Encoding handling in Eclipse 3.5

    - by Cédric Girard
Hi, I use Eclipse 3.5 on Windows, with PDT and Subclipse plugins, with both legacy projects using ISO-8859-1 encoding (latin-1), and newers ones wich use UTF-8. I configured my workspace to use UTF-8, and I configured old projects to use latin-1. But every time I open an old project, it use UTF-8. With a workspace using latin-1 by default, I have the same problem with utf-8 projects edited as iso-8859-1. My encoding choice is written in the file .settings/org.eclipse.core.resources.prefs but seems to be never read. The only solution for now is to have a latin1 workspace, and an utf8 one. Any better idea? Regards, Cédric

  • Curious to Know what Eclipse 'Show Heap Status' does

    - by GustlyWind
Hi All In Eclipse (I am using 3.4 Ganymede) there is an option under Preferences>General>Show Heap Status which when checked shows near bottom of IDE like 46M of 98M and if we move the mouse over 'Recycle Bin' it says 'Run Garbage Collector'. I am curoius to know how this works. What will happen when 'Run Garbage Collector' is clicked. My enivroment set up is something like jdk6 is insatlled and IDE used for development and run in Tomcat server. So my understanding is all the objects which are run through Tomcat should be garbage collected. Is this correct. Is there a way to see what objects Eclipse identified as Garbage Cheers

  • Adding a JAR to an Eclipse Java library

    - by Paul Reiners
How do you add a JAR file to an already existing Java library in Eclipse? Note that this is not a user library. That is, if you look at the Java Build Path for a Java project and click on the Libraries tab, you will see the list of libraries used by the project. If you expand a given library, you will see a list of JAR files included in that library. I want to add an additional JAR file to one of these libraries. I am using Version 3.4.0 of Eclipse.

  • Creating method templates in Eclipse

    - by stevebot
Is there any way to do the following in eclipse? Have eclipse template a method like the following public void test(){ // CREATE MOCKS // CREATE EXPECTATIONS // REPLAY MOCKS // VERIFY MOCKS } so then I could presumably just use intellisense and select an option like "createtest" and have it stub out a method with the comments similar to the above? My problem is that often myself and other developers I know forgot all the steps we need to follow to do what we dub as a valid unit test for our application. If I could template our test methods to stub out the comments above it would be a big help.

  • Can SqlAnywhere's UltraLiteJ DB tables be viewed in the Database Explorer of the Eclipse IDE

    - by Tobias
Hi, I am developing a Blackberry app which should be able to access a DB. Here is my development environment and the tools I am using: Eclipse (Galileo) IDE with the Blackberry plugin installed. Blackberry OS 5.0 SQLAnywhere's DB 11 with UltraLiteJ (I am targeting Blackberrys running OS 4.1 and above) I have successfully executed a sample project for building a Blackberry application that uses the UltraLiteJ DB, following the tutorial in the UltraLiteJ documentation*. The tutorial creates, populates and retrieves data from the DB using java code. Now, I want to be able to access the tables and view data in them from the Eclipse IDE. Something similar to the FireFox plugin for SqlLite or say the Enterprise Manager for Sql Server 2005 which is a DB Explorer providing access to the StoredProcedures, Views, DB Diagrams etc. for a Database. Can someone please direct me as to how to tackle this problem? I hope the question is descriptive and clear. Much Obliged. *http://dcx.sybase.com/index.html#1101en/ulj_en11/uj-ch03.html

  • Adding Boost Library to a C++ project in Windows Eclipse

    - by kingrichard2005
I recently installed the Boost Library on Windows using the installer, I'm trying to link to the library in Eclipse but am not having any luck. I tried going through Project Properties - C/C++ Build - Settings - MinGW C++ Linker - Libraries and add the reference "boost_filesystem" according to this website: http://www.ferdychristant.com/blog//archive/DOMM-76JN6N , but I think that only applies to Unix variants. Everytime I compile I get the error: "cannot find -lboost_filesystem" . I've scoured the net, but cannot find a way to properly use Boost in Eclipse under a Windows platform. Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

  • Single console in eclipse for both Server and Client

    - by rits
    I am building a client server application using Java Sockets (in Windows XP). For that I need different consoles for both Client and Server(for Input and Output operations). But in eclipse both share a single console. Is there any plugin or some sort of cheat through which I can do this. After googling I got this, http://dev.eclipse.org/newslists/news.eclipse.newcomer/msg17138.html But, this seems to be only for write operations, not read operations. Also, I tried the following to launch application manually, but even this is not working........ package mypack; import java.io.BufferedOutputStream; import java.io.File; import java.io.FileOutputStream; import java.io.IOException; import java.io.OutputStream; import java.io.PrintStream; public class MySystem { public static void changeStream(String mainFile) throws IOException{ File temp = new File(".") ; String parentPath = temp.getCanonicalPath() ; System.out.println(parentPath); //creation of batch file starts here try{ File f = new File(parentPath + "\\a.bat") ; System.out.println("Created : " + f.createNewFile()); //f.deleteOnExit() ; FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream(f) ; String str = "java " + mainFile ; String batchCommand="@echo off\n"+str+"\npause\nexit"; char arr[] = batchCommand.toCharArray() ; System.out.println(str) ; for(int i = 0 ; i < arr.length ; i++){ fos.write(arr[i]) ; } fos.close() ; } catch(Exception e){ } //creation of batch file ends here //execution of batch file starts here try{ Runtime r = Runtime.getRuntime() ; System.out.println(parentPath + "\\a.bat") ; Process p = r.exec(new String[]{"cmd","/k","start a.bat"},null,new File(parentPath)) ; OutputStream os = (OutputStream)p.getOutputStream() ; System.setOut( new PrintStream(os) ) ; System.out.println("Hello"); } catch(Exception e){ e.printStackTrace(); } //execution of batch file ends here } public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException { MySystem.changeStream("MySystem") ; } }

  • Adding a SVN repository in Eclipse

    - by Baltimark
I'm trying to add an svn repository to eclipse. I've installed subclipse, and it seems to be working fine. But, when I try to "add a new SVN repository", I input this, for example: http://svn.python.org/projects/peps/trunk I get this: Error validating location: "org.tigris.subversion.javahl.ClientException: RA layer request failed svn: OPTIONS of 'http://svn.python.org/projects/peps/trunk': could not connect to server (http://svn.python.org) " Keep location anyway? I know that my eclipse can connect to the 'net because I downloaded subclipse earlier (I had to change my proxy settings). I get a similar message for other SVN locations I've tried to add. Anyone have any solutions?

  • Can I use google API to convert a PDF into PNGs?

    - by Ken
I have noticed that when you view PDFs in google docs the PDF viewer renders the PDF file into PNG images. I was wondering if you could use Google Data API to upload a PDF and get the URLs of the rendered PNG files? I have never used the google API or really had the extra time to learn it, but if it help me do this it will be well worth the extra time.

  • Eclipse and Cassandra

    - by H2oNinja
I've searched various websites for instructions on how to link 'Cassandra' and 'Eclipse' and followed directions to the last detail in several sites. For some reason, while using Git Bash, I cant get through the 'ant build', via instruction in said mentioned locations across the web. In some location's its easy, just make sure you have; 1. Apache Cassandra source 2. Apache Ant 3. Git So, yeah I've downloaded all the above, tried the same directory, different directories, etc., although still unable to get past the middle step of 'ant build'. Here are a few websites I've used to muddle through setting up the Src code for both utilities, 'Eclipse' and 'Cassandra'. http://uisurumadushanka89.blogspot.com/2012/02/apache-cassandra-how-to-setup-source.html and http://wiki.apache.org/cassandra/RunningCassandraInEclipse both resulting in an immediate halt at the 'ant build'. any insights are information is greatly appreciated. Thank-you, Ryan
