• How to debug a native Java crash on Linux?

  I've seen this question and this article on how to debug a native Java crash. The article is with respect to Windows. What are the equivalent debugging aids on Linux? Note: All I have is this crash log from a user in the field. I do not have access to the machine on which the crash occurred. Update: I am pretty sure the crash is due to JNI code we have. I never meant to imply that it was the JVM itself that was faulty. • Apache2 several sites and configuration question

  Hello I want to host several sites from my VPS via apache2 under Debian. • Content Query Web Part and the Yes/No Field

  The Content Query Web Part (CQWP) is a pretty powerful beast. It allows you to do multiple site queries and aggregate the results. This is great for rolling up content and doing some summary type reporting. Here’s a trick to remember about Yes/No fields and using the CQWP. If you’re building a news style site and want to aggregate say all the announcements that people tag a certain way, up onto the home page this might be a solution. First we need to allow a way for users of all our sites to mark an announcement for inclusion on our Intranet Home Page. We’ll do this by just modifying the Announcement Content type and adding a Yes/No field to it. There are alternate ways of doing this like building a new Announcement type or stapling a feature to all sites to add our column but this is pretty low impact and only affects our current site collection so let’s go with it for now, okay? You can berate me in the comments about the proper way I should have done this part. Go to the Site Settings for the Site Collection and click on Site Content Types under the Galleries. This takes you to the gallery for this site and all subsites. Scroll down until you see the List Content Types and click on Announcements. Now we’re modifying the Announcement content type which affects all those announcement lists that are created by default if you’re building sites using the Team Site template (or creating a new Announcements list on any site for that matter). Click on Add from new site column under the Column list. This will allow us to create a new Yes/No field that users will see in Announcement items. This field will allow the user to flag the announcement for inclusion on the home page. Feel free to modify the fields as you see fit for your environment, this is just an example. Now that we’ve added the column to our Announcements Content type we can go into any site that has an announcement list, modify that announcement and flag it to be included on our home page. See the new Featured column? That was the result of modifying our Announcements Content Type on this site collection. Now we can move onto the dirty part, displaying it in a CQWP on the home page. And here is where the fun begins (and the head scratching should end). On our home page we want to drop a Content Query Web Part and aggregate any Announcement that’s been flagged as Featured by the users (we could also add the filter to handle Expires so we don’t show old content so go ahead and do that if you want). First add a CQWP to the page then modify the settings for the web part. In the first section, Query, we want the List Type to be set to Announcements and the Content type to be Announcement so set your options like this: Click Apply and you’ll see the results display all Announcements from any site in the site collection. I have five team sites created each with a unique announcement added to them. Now comes the filtering. We don’t want to include every announcement, only ones users flag using that Featured column we added. At first blush you might scroll down to the Additional Filters part of the Query options and set the Featured column to be equal to Yes: This seems correct doesn’t it? After all, the column is a Yes/No column and looking at an announcement in the site, it displays the field as Yes or No: However after applying the filter you get this result: (I have the announcements from Team Site 1 and Team Site 4 flagged as Featured) Huh? It’s BACKWARDS! Let’s confirm that. Go back in and change the Additional Filters section from Yes to No and hit Apply and you get this: Wait a minute? Shouldn’t I see Team Site 1 and 4 if the logic is backwards? Why am I seeing the same thing as before. What gives… For whatever reason, unknown to me, a Yes/No field (even though it displays as such) really uses 1 and 0 behind the scenes. Yeah, someone was stuck on using integer values for booleans when they wrote SharePoint (probably after a long night of white boarding ways to mess with developers heads) and came up with this. The solution is pretty simple but not very discoverable. Set the filter to include your flagged items like so: And it will filter the items marked as Featured correctly giving you this result: This kind of solution could also be extended and enhanced. Here are a few suggestions and ideas: Modify the ItemStyle.xsl file to add a new style for this aggregation which would include the first few paragraphs of the body (or perhaps add another field to the Content type called Excerpt or Summary and display that instead) Add an Image column to the Announcement Content type to include a Picture field and display it in the summary Add a Category choice field (Employee News, Current Events, Headlines, etc.) and add multiple CQWPs to the home page filtering each one on a different category I know some may find this topic old and dusty but I didn’t see a lot out there specifically on filtering the Yes/No fields and the whole 1/0 trick was a little wonky, so I figured a few pictures would help walk through overcoming yet another SharePoint weirdness. With a little work and some creative juices you can easily us the power of aggregation and the CQWP to build a news site from content on your team sites.

• Swap partition not recognized (The disk drive with UUID=... is not ready yet or not present)

  I think I had an encrypted swap partition, because I chose to encrypt my home directory during the installation. I believe that's what the line with /dev/mapper/cryptswap1 ... in my /etc/fstab is all about. I did something to bork my swap because on the next boot, I got a message (paraphrased): The disk drive for /dev/mapper/cryptswap1 is not ready yet or not present. Wait to continue. Press S to skip or M to manually recover. (As a side note, pressing S or M seemed to do nothing different from just waiting.) Here's what I've tried: This tutorial on how to fix the swap partition not mounting. However, in the above, the mkswap command fails because the device is busy. So I booted from a live USB, ran GParted to reformat the swap partition (which showed up as an unknown fs type), and chrooted into the broken system to try that tutorial again. I also adjusted /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume and /etc/fstab to reflect the new UUID generated from formatting the partition as a swap. That still didn't work; instead of /dev/mapper/cryptswap1 not present, "The disk drive with UUID=[swap partition's UUID] is not ready yet or not present..." So I decided to start afresh as though I never had created a swap partition in the first place. From the Live USB, I deleted the swap partition altogether (which, again showed up in GParted as an unknown fs type), removed the swap and cryptswap entries in /etc/fstab as well as removed /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume and /etc/crypttab. At this point the main system shouldn't be considered broken because there is no swap partition and no instructions to mount one, right? I didn't get any errors during startup. I followed the same instructions to create and encrypt the swap partition, starting with creating a partition for the swap, though I think fdisk said a reboot was necessary to see changes. I was confident the 3rd process above would work, but the problem yet persists.   I am running ipython from sage and also am using some packages that aren't in sage (lxml, argparse) which are installed in my home directory. I have therefore ended up with a $PYTHONPATH of $HOME/sage/local/lib/python:$HOME/lib/python Python is reading and processing the first easy-install.pth it finds ($HOME/sage/local/lib/python/site-packages/easy-install.pth) but not the second, so eggs installed in $HOME/lib/python aren't added to the path. On reading the off-the-shelf site.py, I cannot for the life of me see why it's doing this. Can someone enlighten me? Or advise how to nudge Python into reading both easy-install.pth files? Consolidating both into one .pth file is a viable workaround for now, so this question is mostly for curiosity value.

• Why can't I publish MVC project

  I'm having problems publishing my MVC project. When I do publish and upload everything to web server I get this: [InvalidOperationException: The view 'Index' or its master could not be found. The following locations were searched: ~/Views/Home/Index.aspx ~/Views/Home/Index.ascx ~/Views/Shared/Index.aspx ~/Views/Shared/Index.ascx] Weird thing is that Index.aspx exists in ~/Views/Home/, but IIS cannot find it there. If I copy entire project to web server and let asp.net compile it on the fly it works like a charm. My routing code: routes.MapRoute( _ "Default", _ "{controller}/{action}/{id}", _ New With {.controller = "Home", .action = "Index", .id = ""} _ ) routes.MapRoute("Root", "", New With {.controller = "Home", .action = "Index", .id =""}) I'm using IIS7 on Windows 2008 Web server. For instance, let's say we have this: for $package in /home/user/settings/* do # do stuff done Let's say that in /home/user/settings/, there is a particular directory ("os") that I want to ignore. Logically, I tried the following variations: for $package in /home/user/settings/^os (works w/ "ls", but not with a foor loop) for $package in /home/user/settings/*^os for $package in /home/user/settings/^os* ...but none of those seem to work. Could someone steer my syntax in the right direction?

  Why default factory WON'T return full name of the controllers (with namespaces)? • ZeroMQ Java Installation Problem

  Hi everyone, I'm trying to install ZeroMQ's Java library but I've been having problem. First error was ./configure complained about JAVA_HOME which everything seemed to be fine but I couldn't manage to solve it but I've found a particular solution in ZeroMQ's chat logs. The suggested solution was; JAVA_HOME="/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Home" ./configure However it doesn't work for me. The error message I've been receiving is checking for jni.h in /Library/Java/Home/include... configure: error: cannot find jni.h in /Library/Java/Home/include. I've tried JAVA_HOME="/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Home" ./configure and JAVA_HOME="/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.6/Home" ./configure as well but still no luck. I'd like to hear StackOverflowers' thoughts about how I can solve this. Thanks.

• asp.net mvc route clashing with physical path in IIS7

  I'm messing about with controller organisation and I've hit a problem. If I have the following physical structure /Home/HomeController.cs /Home/Index.aspx /Home/About.aspx and I request the URI: /Home/Index I get a 403 Directory Listing Denied :( (im using a custom IControllerFactory and IViewEngine to look in this non-default path) Why is this happening? (I know the 403 is because its hitting the /Home folder, but why is it hitting the folder?) Why doesn't the UrlRoutingModule rewrite the route and let the controller pick up the request? Application_BeginRequest fires, but then it seems to pass control back to IIS to try and serve from the filesystem. Is it the UrlRoutingModule that defaults to a physical path if it exists before rewriting? Is there a way to make this work? N.B. Please don't suggest relocating my controllers etc. I know this is an obvious option, but that isn't the question ;) Using IIS7 In Integrated Mode Thanks

• Backup and Transfer Foobar2000 to a New Computer

  If you are a fan of Foobar2000 you undoubtedly have tweaked it to the point where you don’t want to set it all up again on a new machine. Here we look at how to transfer Foobar2000 settings to a new Windows 7 machine. Note: For this article we are transferring Foobar2000 settings from on Windows 7 machine to another over a network running Windows Home Server.  Foobar2000 Foobar2000 is an awesome music player which is highly customizable and we’ve previously covered. Here we take a look at how it’s set up on the current machine. It’s a nothing flashy, but is set up for our needs and includes a lot of components and playlists.   Backup Files Rather than wasting time setting everything up again on a new machine, we can backup the important files and replace them on the new machine. First type or copy the following into the Explorer address bar. %appdata%\foobar2000 Now copy all of the files in the folder and store them on a network drive or some type removable media or device. New Machine Now you can install the latest version of Foobar2000 on your new machine. You can go with a Standard install as we will be replacing our backed up configuration files anyway. When it launches, it will be set with all the defaults…and we want what we had back. Browse to the following on the new machine… %appdata%\foobar2000 Delete all of the files in this directory… Then replace them with the ones we backed up from the other machine. You’ll also want to navigate to C:\Program Files\Foobar2000 and replace the existing Components folder with the backed up one. When you get the screen telling you there is already files of the same name, select Move and Replace, and check the box Do this for the next 6 conflicts. Now we’re back in business! Everything is exactly as it was on the old machine. In this example, we were moving the Foobar2000 files from a computer on the same home network. All the music is coming from a directory on our Windows Home Server so they hadn’t changed. If you’re moving these files to a computer on another machine… say your work computer, you’ll need to adjust where the music folders point to. Windows XP If you’re setting up Foobar2000 on an XP machine, you can enter the following into the Run line. %appdata%\foobar2000 Then copy your backed up files into the Foobar2000 folder, and remember to swap out the Components folder in C:\Program Files\Foobar2000. Confirm to replace the files and folders by clicking Yes to All… Conclusion This method worked perfectly for us on our home network setup. There might be some other things that will need a bit of tweaking, but overall the process is quick and easy. There is a lot of cool things you can do with Foobar2000 like rip an audio CD to FlAC. • Installing CUDA on Ubuntu 12.04 with nvidia driver 295.59

  I have been trying to get cuda to run on a nvidia gt 650m based laptop. I am running Ubuntu 12.04 with the nvidia 295.59 driver. Also, my laptop uses Optimus so I have install the driver via bumblebee. Bumblebee is not working correctly yet -- however I believe it is possible to install CUDA independently. To install CUDA I have followed the instructions detailed here: How can I get nVidia CUDA or OpenCL working on a laptop with nVidia discrete card/Intel Integrated Graphics? However I am still running into problem building the sdk. • Uninstaller that can work with failed installs

  I'd like an application that can uninstall applications that does not show up in the normal add/remove applications. I have an application that failed to install properly. It installs half way and then crashes leaving short cuts, folders with exe and config files in and some stuff in the registry. Ideally I would like to be able to point the uninstaller to the install dir and tell it to remove everything that references files in that dir.

  I tried something on my vm ubuntu and managed to mess it up... luckily I made a snapshot not too long a go. I renamed a file to ,,, and tried to mv ,,, *. The entire dir's content of the dir disappeared. Can someone please explain to me what happened? Thank you.

  Active-active  (also called Master-Master or Bi-Directional) replication captures data changes from two or more systems and replicat the changes to synchronize the data.  Active-Active replication is often needed for high availability, load balancing and scaling out purposes.   Oracle GoldenGate is known to be one of the first and the best replication tool handling active-active replications. As of Oracle GoldenGate 12c, it provides (Refer to Oracle GoldenGate 12.1.2 Documentation - Configuring Oracle GoldenGate for Active-Active High Availability for more information) the followings: Robust loop-back prevention Comprehensive conflict resolution and detection support Heterogeneous support across different database versions and operation systems.  Oracle GoldenGate supports active-active configurations for DB2 on z/OS, LUW, and IBM i, MySQL, Oracle, SQL/MX,SQL Server, Sybase, and Teradata. • Spaces in SETX PATH command

  Suppose my PATH is C:\WINDOWS\system32\;C:\Program Files\Important\ SET NEW_PATH=C:\My\Dir\ SETX PATH "%PATH%;%NEW_PATH%" Results in a path of: C:\WINDOWS\system32\;C:\Program Files\Important\;C:\My\Dir" Notice the quotation mark at the end of the path. It's as though the backslash at the end of %NEW_PATH% escaped the final quote mark. I need the quotation marks because I have spaces in my path, but I don't want backslashes to be interpreted as escape characters. What's the right way to include my PATH in the call to SETX?
