    One of the powerful aspect of Visual Studio is its ability to be extended and many people do that. You can find numerous extensions at the Visual Studio Gallery. The VSX team links to a 4-part blog series on how to create and share templates. You can also look find extension examples on the vsx code gallery.With Visual Studio 2010, you can search for items and install them directly from within Visual Studio's new Extension Manager. You launch it from the Tools menu:When the dialog comes up, be sure to explore the various actionable areas on the left and also note the search on the right.   • secure data transport between web server and database server

    I asked this question in stackoverflow and it was suggested to try here so here goes... I'm planning on provisioning a web server and database server in a server farm environment. They will be in the same network but not in the same domain, both windows server 2008 and the database server is sql server 2008. My question being, what is the best way to secure data in transport between the servers? I've looked into IPSEC and SSL but not sure how to go about implementing either.

In this post I have a demo to show you how to use Dark mode that is part of Windows 7 (and windows 8 too).   Few months ago I show a problem that webmatrix 2 run slow. it’s run better in windows 7 dark mode. Windows 7 dark mode simply refer to right click > personalize > High contrast theme in bottom of windows. This setting make thing a little bit faster.   When you have set this you have seen that Visual studio doesn’t react good anymore because it’s color scheme is broken now. What you need now is import any theme from http://studiostyl.es/ When you import this this will look good as this.   This is the demo look of Windows 7 phone Express 2010. It will react same for future version as 2012, 2013. Now see your VS react look dark. Everything is dark now. Your Firefox and IE will not run totally in blackish mode but you can use chrome. Chrome have less effect of dark. Now if you benchmark it then you will feel that everything that take a long time in loading now run fast.   Note :- This is experiments.   • Introducing Code Map for Visual Studio 2012 September CTP

    As part of the Visual Studio 2012 CTP for September, Visual Studio got a little sexier at helping you discover and visualize your code. The introduction of the Code Map feature helps compliment the variety of other tools that are included with Visual Studio to help you analyze and visualize your projects and solutions. Code Map leverages the dgml format within Visual Studio that is currently used b the Architecture and Modeling tools. This is a nice addition that gets us from point A to point B a little faster. The great thing about Code Map is that you can gain access to the functionality from directly within your code from the context menu. This Code Map functionality is also context specific based on your cursor. You can evaluate and add items such as methods and variables directly to the Code Map window. As you add items the Code Map surface is updated to show your new item plus any relationships and dependencies that have been introduced in your code. Something that is also very nice is that the Code Map surface is interactive and allows you to use the F12 button (Go To Definition) which can help you navigate your code especially is you are adding items that span multiple files or projects.     These days, I'm investing heavily in data structures and algorithms and trying to solve some programming puzzles. I'm trying to code and solve with Java and Clojure. Am I wasting my time? should I invest more in technologies and frameworks that I already know in order to gain deeper knowledge (the ins and the outs) and be able to code with them more quickly? By studying data structures and algorithms, am I going to become a better programmer or those subjects are only important during college years?

  • Bundling in visual studio 2012 for web optimization

    I have been writing a series of posts about Visual Studio 2012 features. This series describes what are the new features in the Visual Studio 2012. This post will also be part of Visual Studio 2012 feature series. As we know now days web applications or site are providing more and more features and due to that we have include lots of JavaScript and CSS files in our web application.So once we load site then we will have all the JavaScript  js files and CSS files loaded in the browsers and If you have lots of JavaScript files then its consumes lots of time when browser request them. Following images show the same situation over there.   Here you can see total 25 files loaded into the system and it's almost more than 1MB of total size. As we need to have our web application of site very responsive and need to have high performance application/site, this will be a performance bottleneck to our site. In situation like this, the bundling feature of Visual Studio 2012 and ASP.NET 4.5 comes very handy. With the help of this feature we do optimization there and we can increase performance of our application. To enable this feature in Visual Studio 2012 we just made debug=”false” in web.config of our application like following. Now once you enable this feature and run this application in the browser to see your traffic it will have less items like following. As you can see in the above image there are only 8 items. So after enabling bundling it will automatically convert all js and css files into the one request. Isn’t that cool feature? This feature will surely going to have great impact on performance.   • Does moving a file outside NTFS loose data in alternate data streams?

    I have a lot of files on machine running Windows Server 2008 which I wanted to move to a Fedora machine. How can I keep the attributes stored in, for example, media files (date taken, rating, length, etc) while transfering it to outside the realm of NTFS's Alternate Data Streams. I'm aware that similar metadata exists in other file systems, but what happens when you move these files? And what's the best way to retain them in other file systems?

    While shopping for an SSD I have noticed that some manufacturers promote their "Pro" models as the ones sporting ECC data protection. Those manufacturers do not mention ECC in their budget models descriptions. However, Wikipedia article on flash memory states that "NAND relies on ECC to compensate for bits that may spontaneously fail during normal device operation." So the question is does any SSD device use ECC behind the scenes for its normal operation and is that ECC "feature" just a marketing ploy?

  • SQL Server Data Tools–BI for Visual Studio 2013 Re-released

    Customers used to complain that the tooling for creating BI projects (Analysis Services MD and Tabular, Reporting Services, and Integration services) has been based on earlier versions of Visual Studio than the ones they were using for their other work in Visual Studio (such as C#, VB, and ASP.NET projects). To alleviate that problem, the shipment of those tools has been decoupled from the shipment of the SQL Server product. In SQL Server 2014, the BI tooling isn’t even included in the released version of SQL Server. This allows the team to keep up-to-date with the releases of Visual Studio. A little while back, I was really pleased to see that the Visual Studio 2013 update for SSDT-BI (SQL Server Data Tools for Business Intelligence) had been released.     I've got a Mac that won't boot and I'd like to recover whatever data I can before wiping the hard drive and reinstalling. I'm looking for something similar to TRK (which is Windows-centric) — boot from CD, mount the hard drive, and copy to a network share. I just noticed TRK does appear to support HFS+; has anyone had success with this?
