    I am reading about SURBLs (known spam hosts), for purpose of classifying spam, as a batch process. Main access method seems to be via DNS lookups. I was wondering what's the usual way to do such lookups from Java code. Since this is a batch process with no strict performance requirements, I think most important feature would just be simplicity.

  • AirPlay over unicast DNS-SD. Anyone got it working?

    We set up AirPrint using unicast DNS-SD on our campus about a year ago and it turned out to be a big success, so we're looking at trying to get AirPlay working so our faculty and students can wirelessly show content on our classroom projectors. There are still a couple of other things preventing an ideal implementation (username and password authentication, for starters), but I've been trying to set up a working demo nonetheless. Getting AirPrint working was basically just a matter of advertising the same records over a DNS-SD domain instead of the multicast (.local) one, but doing the same thing for AirPlay doesn't seem to cut it. The devices don't recognize the DNS-SD AirPlay servers as available. I've uploaded a screenshot of my DNS-SD configuration with the original (from AirServer, which works normally for multicast) here. I realize this is still a fairly new feature and documentation is lacking, but has anyone been able to get AirPlay working via DNS-SD? If it simply only works over multicast, I can accept that, but its potential is so appealing for us that I thought it'd be worth asking if anyone else has figured it out.

  • Windows 7 laptop with two active network connections will not perform DNS AAAA lookup under certain conditions

    My laptop has two network interfaces. The Ethernet interface connects directly to my provider's edge router. It obtains an IPv6 address via SLAAC. I manually set an IPv6 DNS server. The wireless interface connects to a CPE router that doesn't understand IPv6. If the wireless interface is disabled, I can reach the IPv6 Internet with no problems using the Ethernet interface. I run into problems when both interfaces are enabled and the wireless interface get its IPv4 DNS server via DHCP. Let's look at two scenarios. Wireless interface obtains IPv4 DNS server via DHCP - The CPE router (192.168.0.1) sends its address as the DNS server. In this scenario, Windows 7 will not perform AAAA lookups. The browser uses IPv4 transit to reach dual stack web sites. I can't reach IPv6-only web sites using domain names. I can reach IPv6-enabled web sites using IPv6 literals instead of the domain name. Wireless interface is manually configured with OpenDNS DNS server - Windows 7 performs AAAA lookups using IPv6 transit (via the Ethernet). Everything works fine. My dual homed set-up is definitely not standard. Still, the behavior is very strange to me. A valid IPv6 interface exists in my Ethernet interface. Why won't Windows attempt AAAA lookups in scenario #1? I've included the output of ipconfig /all and netstat -rn.   • Can plugins loaded with MEF resolve their own internal dependencies with the same MEF container for

    From my experimentation, I think the answer is "kind of", but I could have made a mistake. I have an application that loads appliance plugins with MEF. That part is working fine. Now let's say that my BlenderAppliance wants to resolve several of its dependencies with MEF, which each implement IApplianceFeature. I've just used the ImportMany attribute to my plugin. I made sure to create the plugin using MEF so that the Imports work properly. I said "kind of" because some of the plugin's internals (i.e. the model) are loading with MEF just fine, but the IApplianceFeatures aren't. The difference here is that the IApplianceFeatures are themselves, assemblies. And at the moment, they are in one folder above that of the plugin itself, i.e. + application folder | IApplianceFeature1.dll | IApplianceFeature2.dll +---+ plugin folder | BlenderAppliance.dll Now if my application uses an AggregateCatalog to load the "." and ".\plugins" folders, why doesn't it ever load the IApplianceFeature assemblies for me? Is it possible / advisable to have the plugin create its own MEF container to resolve its dependencies, or does really nasty stuff happen? If you have any stories about this scenario, please share. :)

  • Android MediaPlayer ignores it's internal volume when the system volume changes

    Hi, here is my situation: I have a media player playing music in an Android application. I've found that with certain headphones, the volume is much too loud even when the volume is set to it's lowest setting. As a result, I want to change the volume of the music for all volume levels to be 10% of what it normally is (actually, this value is user-defined of course). The following works perfectly: mediaPlayer.setVolume(0.1f, 0.1f); The volume of the music is now at a good level for listening. However, if the user now changes the volume using the volume rocker (thus changing the music stream volume), the media player changes the volume as expected, but it also seems to reset the 'setVolume' parameters to 1.0, causing a massive volume change. Setting the volume back to 0.1 sets the volume to how it should be (which is 10% of the current music stream volume). To quote the Android docs for the MediaPlayer.setVolume method: This API is recommended for balancing the output of audio streams within an application How can you do this if it gets reset to 1.0 each time the system volume changes? Any help muchly appreciated. Thanks.

    I need to generate an event when a file is closed by another app. Unfortunately, ReadDirectoryChangesW doesn't report the close event. It would be possible for me to poll (with a TTimer) any file that reported by ReadDirectoryChangesW as modified, waiting for it to be closed (using CreateFile to detect this). However, what I'd prefer is a completely event driven solution. Is there a way to hook system calls and detect all file closing events? I simply want to know the path & name of any file that has just been closed.

    Should discount on invoice items and entire invoices be negative line items or separate properties of an invoice? In a similar question, Should I incorporate list of fees/discounts into an order class or have them be itemlines, the asker focuses more on orders than invoices (which is a slightly different business entity). Discount is proposed to be separate from order items since it is not equivalent to a fee or product and may have different reporting requirements. Hence, discount should not simply be a negative line item. Previously I have successfully used negative line items to clearly indicate and calculate discount, but this feels inflexible and inaccurate from a business perspective. Now I am opting to add discount to each line item, along with an invoice-wide discount. Is this the right way to do it? Should each item have its own discount amount and percentage?   • Android Compound Control internal click events

    Hi, I'm writing a custom compound control that extends RelativeLayout. Inside this component, there is an ImageView. I add a OnClickListener to this ImageView to animate it when the user clicks on it. But when I am in an activity using this control and I add a OnClickListener on the control, this listener is never called. It only works when I remove the other listener I have on the ImageView. Does anybody knows how to "propagate" the event to the other listeners when I catch it inside the control? Thanks! PS: I would also like to know if there is an existing control that looks like the icons on the Android desktop. Like an icon with text underneath.

  • .htaccess blocking images on some internal pages

    I'm doing some web design for a friend and I noticed that everywhere else on her site images will load fine except for the subdirectory I'm working in. I looked in her .htaccess file and sure enough it is setup to deny people from stealing her images. Fair Enough, except the pages i'm working on are in her domain and yet I still get the 403 error. I'm pasting the .htaccess contents below but I replaced the domain names with xyz, 123 and abc. So specifically the page I'm on (xyz.com/DesignGallery.asp) pulls images from (xyz.com/machform/data/form_1/files) and it results in a forbidden error.   • Desktop Notifications, aka Internal Alert System

    It has become apparent that where I work needs, internally, a "notification system". The issue being that we are very spread out throughout multiple buildings and the bulk of the work force regularly keeps there email closed for hours at a time. I need to create a simple way to be able to push out a message and have it "pop up" on everyones computer(or a single computer). My first thought was to write a windows service that calls a winform/wpf app that resides on each computer that simply pops up with the message. Not sure how viable an idea that is but this is just brain-storming. A different route, I thought, could be an app that resides in the systray on each computer that polls a db table and using the Query Notifications could pop up a message each time a new row is added. Then simply create an insanely basic app for writing a row to that table. So, what I am asking is if any one else has walked this path. If so, how? What things did you take into consideration? Are either of my ideas valid starting points or are "egg and my face in perfect alignment"? Is there a different way that is even simpler? Thanks

    When I use C# to implement the AES symmetric encryption cipher, I noticed: PasswordDeriveBytes derivedPassword = new PasswordDeriveBytes(password, saltBytesArray, hashAlgorithmName, numPasswordIterations); Why do I need to use a hashing algorithm for AES encryption? Aren't they separate? Or is the hashing algorithm only used to create a secure key? The AES algorithm doesn't use a hashing algorithm internally does it?

  • Perl - Internal File (create and execute)

    I have a quick question about creating files with perl and executing them. I wanted to know if it was possible to generate a file using perl (I actually need a .bat script) and then execute this file internally to the program. I know I can create files, and I have with perl, however, I'm wanting to do this internally to the program. So, what I want it to do is actually create a batch script internally to the program (no file is actually written to the disk, everything remains in memory, or the perl program), and then once it completes the writing of the file, I'd like to be able to actually execute this file, and then discard the file it just wrote. I'm basically trying to have it create a batch script on the fly, so that I can just have output text files from the output of the script, rather than creating the batch script on disk, then executing it, and then deleting the batch file from disk when its done. Can this be done and how would I go about doing this? Regards, Drew

  • Far jump in ntdll.dll's internal ZwCreateUserProcess

    I'm trying to understand how the Windows API creates processes so I can create a program to determine where invalid exes fail. I have a program that calls kernel32.CreateProcessA. Following along in OllyDbg, this calls kernel32.CreateProcessInternalA, which calls kernel32.CreateProcessInternalW, which calls ntdll.ZwCreateUserProcess. This function goes: mov eax, 0xAA xor ecx, ecx lea edx, dword ptr [esp+4] call dword ptr fs:[0xC0] add esp, 4 retn 0x2C So I follow the call to fs:[0xC0], which contains a single instruction: jmp far 0x33:0x74BE271E But when I step this instruction, Olly just comes back to ntdll.ZwCreateUserProcess at the add esp, 4 right after the call (which is not at 0x74BE271E). I put a breakpoint at retn 0x2C, and I find that the new process was somehow created during the execution of add esp, 4. So I'm assuming there's some magic involved in the far jump. I tried to change the CS register to 0x33 and EIP to 0x74BE271E instead of actually executing the far jump, but that just gave me an access violation after a few instructions. What's going on here? I need to be able to delve deeper beyond the abstraction of this ZwCreateUserProcess to figure out how exactly Windows creates processes.

  • PHP's apache_setenv function causes 500 Internal Server Error

    apache_setenv ( 'no-gzip', 1 ) I'm trying to disable gzip for a certain page's output, but only that page. This works fine on testing servers, but not the production server, which is running the same thing (CentOS and Apache), works on Ubuntu though. Anyway, do you know why? Or is there some other alternative? I was thinking of using ob_start () to put all output in a buffer, and then unzip it myself with a PHP function then call ob_end_flush ()... or would it not be gzipped until right before Apache sends it to the client? Thanks for any help.

Of course, if you have use virtual host locally like example.com then the function will be tricked. Are there any other ways to fool the function? and what other variables/places could we peek at to determine where we are?
