• Linux: setting up an elite/high-anonimity Web proxy on a dedicated server

  I'm renting a dedicated server which I'd like to use to "surf the Web": basically I want to always surf the Web from the same static IP (the one of my dedicated server). I can do it by running Xvnc/FreeNX on the dedicated server, but this is kinda slow and clumsy (I tried it). What are the steps needed to install an "elite/high-anonimity" Web proxy on a dedicated (Debian) Linux server knowing that my two requirements are: I'm the only person that needs access to the proxy all I want is that my broadband (dynamic) IP is completely hidden (I want to always surf from my dedicated server's IP). Note that using the static IP people can find my domains and my real name and I'm perfectly fine with that (actually it is what I want). What I don't want is people knowing from which dynamic IP (broadband) I'm connecting. What are the steps needed to do that? (basically I don't care about "anonimity", what I want is to appear to surf from a static IP and I think I need what is called an "elite" Web proxy to do that, but I'm not sure) Technical infos and sample configuration most welcome :)

• Multiple vlan issue with procurve switch

  I have a cisco asa5505 as my rtr/fw(10.1.3.254). I have vlan 1 and vlan 3. Vlan 1 is my default all access vlan. Vlan 3 is my Guest(dmz) vlan. I can't seem to get a dhcp ip address when my laptop is plugged into port 42 on my procurve. I have plugged my laptop directly into the firewall and it gets a dhcp ip fine(the firewall is dhcp server). the firewall is plugged into port 41. Only vlan3 needs to go over port 41. • Cannot Access Web Interface on HP 2510G

  I am currently setting up a new infrastructure with HP 2510s as edge switches and an HP E5406 as the main switch. I also have a DHCP and DNS server running on the same network. When i first set up one of my 2510 switches, I gave it a static IP through the console and then went to the web interface to continue my configuration. Later, I realized that I assigned it the wrong IP address, so i went through the web interface and changed the IP address to the correct one. Now, I can't access the web interface. I can telnet to the switch on the new IP address, but the web interface will not load. If I switch from static IP to DHCP, it loads the web interface. Any ideas on what could be causing the web server in the 2510 not to load with the new static IP address?

• Port forwarding problem

  I have a modem connecting to ADSL2 network and a router connecting to the modem. The rest of the machines all connect to the router. The modem has IP as 192.168.1.1 and the router's IP is 192.168.0.1. From the modem configuration, I can see that the modem thinks the router's IP is 192.168.1.2. I can visit the router by either using 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.2. Now I forward a port from the router to a private machine. It works. I can test it by typing 192.168.1.2 and it is redirected to the private machine. But if I use 192.168.0.1, it is still the router's configuration page. I also do a port forwarding on my modem. Since the modem sees only the router, I can only forward the port to the router's specific port. And I am thinking that by doing this, I can reach the private machine after two times port forwarding, once on the modem and once on the router. I also have a static public IP. I want to achieve the goal that when someone types the public IP, he will be redirected to the private machine. But when I use some online port forwarding tester, the result always says that the port is closed on the public IP. I have the questions: Why my router has two IPs? Why using one IP I can see the port forwarding result while using the other I cannot? I think the port forwarding only works when visiting from outside, rather than from both outside and inside. Otherwise, if I set port forwarding on my router/modem on port 80, I will never be able to see its original configuration page again. Everything is forwarded. Am I right? How can I achieve my goal described above? By achieve this, I will have a dedicated server of my own and the users can visit from the public IP. Anyone can correct me on any mistakes I made? I am using Netconn modem and D-Link DIR-300 router. Thank you very much for any help. Edit: Consider I have correctly setup the whole thing. Now I want to test my website by using public IP to visit it, but the port forwarding doesn't work. Does it consider that I am inside the local network and not using the port forwarding? If so, how can I do it? I ask my friends (outside my local network) to have a try and they can see the website. What should I do so that from the inside, I can do the testing? Thank you very much.

Dynamic allocation: like automatic allocation except that the server will track leases and give IP addresses whose lease has expired to other DHCP clients How can i configure the automatic allocation on Windows 2000 or XP DHCP server? i can think of setting the lease to unlimited period, but i m not sure if the computer shutsdown gracefully it will make the ip address available to other machine.

• Relay thru external SMTP server on Exchange 2010

  My client has dynamic IP on which he hosts Exchange 2010 with POP3 Connector running and gathering emails from his current hosting. Until he gets static IP he wants to send emails out. This will work most of the time but some servers won't accept such email sent by Exchange (from dynamic ip due to multiple reasons) so I would like to make a relay thru external SMTP server which hosts current mailboxes. Normally SMTP server could be set up to allow relay thru it but this would require static IP to be allowed on that server so it would know which IP is allowed to relay thru it. Or is there a way to setup relay in Exchange 2010 so it can use dynamic IP and kinda authenticates with user/password itself on the hosted server?

• SVN Checkout URL - fresh install

  I just setup SVN on a server that is running Ubuntu server as a fresh install. I've got it up and running but am having difficult determining how to connect to it. I'm trying to do an import using the local IP address: http://IP/RepositoryName but it's saying it can't resolve the IP. I'm wondering if there's something on the server I need to setup. I have not modified dav_svn.conf because there is another server here that is running SVN (I'm migrating it to a new server) and it's dav_svn.conf is not modified. The current working SVN has a subdomain associated with the IP location of the server but doesn't do anything special with the ports as far as I can tell. I'm getting this error via RapidSVN when I try to import... Error: Error while performing action: OPTIONS of 'http://IP/RepositoryName': could not connect to server (http://IP) Any help would be appreciated

• Connect to virtual host computer from within virtualbox

  I'm currently developing on an ubuntu karmic. For this I've installed lampp with a virtual host on apache so http://myproject/ is mapped to my project's root directory. Now to test the website in IE I've installed an XP machine on a virtualBox OSE. Ive managed to get the virtual host working on the XP by adding its to the hostfile, like this: 255.255.255.255 myproject where 255.255.255.255 is the ip adress of the host computer (my ubuntu). Now every day when I come to work and plug in my computer to the network, my IP has changed. so When i boot the XP I have to change the IP in the hostfile to my new IP. Is there any way where I can set the ip to somthing the XP will recognise as the host machine? I've tried replacing the IP in the hostfile by the host computer name, but that does not seem to work... This would make my like a bit easier :)

  I recently installed a new copy of Ubuntu 9.10 (Kernel 2.6.31-14) on to my Hp Pavilion dv6t, so I can setup a Linux development environment. The install went flawlessly and I proceeded with Ubuntu's udate manager's long list of updates (292 in all). I also setup a swap file and activated a Nvidia 185 driver for the Nvidia 260m GPU on the machine. After all this was done I restarted the computer and booted into Ubuntu this time with a newer 2.6.31-19 Kernel which was installed from the update manager. • Cisco ASA 5505 - L2TP over IPsec

  I have followed this document on cisco site to set up the L2TP over IPsec connection. When I try to establish a VPN to ASA 5505 from my Windows XP, after I click on "connect" button, the "Connecting ...." dialog box appears and after a while I get this error message: Error 800: Unable to establish VPN connection. The VPN server may be unreachable, or security parameters may not be configured properly for this connection. ASA version 7.2(4) ASDM version 5.2(4) Windows XP SP3 Windows XP and ASA 5505 are on the same LAN for test purposes. Edit 1: There are two VLANs defined on the cisco device (the standard setup on cisco ASA5505). - port 0 is on VLAN2, outside; - and ports 1 to 7 on VLAN1, inside. I run a cable from my linksys home router (10.50.10.1) to the cisco ASA5505 router on port 0 (outside). • How to know the source of certain TCP traffic on AIX

  I have dnsmasq running as a dns server with a number of linux boxes using static ips that run several virtual hosts on subdomains. I currently have the following address line in my dnsmasq.conf to map the subdomain of a boxes address to the boxes static ip: address=/.devbox1.mydomain.com/192.168.1.3 address=/.devbox2.mydomain.com/192.168.1.4 e.g. site1.devbox1.mydomain.com > maps to devbox1 static ip, site1 virtual host site2.devbox1.mydomain.com > maps to devbox1 static ip, site2 virtual host site3.devbox2.mydomain.com > maps to devbox2 static ip, site3 virtual host I was wondering if I can change the machines over to DHCP addresses (instead of static) and have dnsmasq use the dhcp ip instead of the static one? Can I modify the address line to refer to the DHCP address (obviously, I cant hardcode the address)? I know I could add mac address to ip allocation, but I want to avoid this if possible.

  Hi all, My query is related to broadband network deployment. I have a DSL modem connection provided by my operator. Now the DSL modem has a built-in NAT and DHCP server, hence it allocates IP addresses to any client devices (laptops, PC, mobile) that connect to it. However, the DSL modem also gets a public IP address X that is provisioned by the operator. My question is Whether this IP address X provisioned by operator is an IP address that is directly on the public Internet? Is it likely (practical scenario) that my broadband operator will put in one more NAT+DHCP server and provide IP addresses to all the modems within his broadband network. In this case, the IP addresses allotted to the modem devices will not be directly on the public Internet. Thanks in advance.

• SSH Socks Proxy wiith iptables REDIRECT

  I have googled and haven`t found the answer on my question. Help me please. There are two servers: serverA with public IP 12.0.0.10 and an private IP 10.0.0.5 serverB with public IP 20.0.0.11 I have setup SOCKS proxy on serverB to serverA: ssh -D20.0.0.11:2222 [email protected] So when on my local machine in a browser i specify SOCKS proxy 20.0.0.11:2222 (serverB:2222) as external IP while browsing i get 12.0.0.10 (serverA IP). That is ok. As well if i go onto http://10.0.0.5 (serverA private IP) it is also reachable. That is what i need. I want to make servers A private IP to be available through servers B public IP on certain ports but without specifying SOCKS in my browser. I could use ssh port forward but the problem is - i need to forward many ports and do not know which exactly - i know only the range. So when i connect to 20.0.0.11 to any port , for example, from 3000:4000 range, i want that traffic to be redirected to 10.0.0.5 on the same port. That is why i`ve decided maybe SOCKS proxy via SSH and iptables REDIRECT could help me. Client - serverBPublicIP (any port from range 3000:4000) - serverAPublicIP - serverAPrivateIP (the port was requested on serverBPublicIP) On serverB i do: ssh -D20.0.0.11:2222 [email protected] iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -d 20.0.0.11 -p tcp --dport 3000:4000 -j REDIRECT --to-port 2222 But that does not work - when i telnet on 20.0.0.11:3001 for example i do not see any proxied traffic on the serverA. What should i do else? I have tried tcpsocks like this (in example i am telneting to 20.0.0.11:3001) Client -> 20.0.0.11:3001 -> iptables REDIRECT from 3001 --to-port 1111 -> tcpsocks from 1111 to 2222 -> SOCKS proxy from serverB to serverA on port 2222 -> serverA But i do not know what to do with the traffic on serverA. How to route it to its private IP. Help me please. I know, VPN removes all the hell i am trying to create, but i have no ability to use tun/tap device. It is disabled.

  Trying to get Oracle Database 10g to work on Microsoft cluster (using Oracle Fail Safe, not RAC). Everything installed, but when trying to verify group or add database to group I get following error: FS-10220: Network name MSK00-NST01-1 maps to IP address 10.1.11.74 in the cluster resource but maps to IP address 10.1.1.74 on the system MSK00-NST01-1 is cluster name, 10.1.11.74 is first node IP, 10.1.1.74 is second node IP. Oracle documentation says "The cluster and the system must have the same IP address mapping for a network name. Check that either the network name server or the local host file has the same IP address mapping as the cluster." Where is the error - in Oracle configuration or in cluster configuration? What are possible ways to correct it? Thanks a lot for any ideas.

• Windows 7 cannot join samba domain

  I have a 3.5.6 samba server with a LDAP backend (both on Debian 6.0). I've been successfully adding Windows XP machines to the domain for years. I now try to add Windows 7. I have made the recommended registry changes, but I don't have any success so far. Here is what happens: 1. I go to computer name, select "Domain" instead of "Workgroup", type in the domain name, click OK. It asks me for the username and password of an account that can add computers to the domain; I enter them. After about 40 seconds, I get the following message: The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "ITIA": The specified computer account could not be found. Contact an administrator to verify the account is in the domain. If the account has been deleted unjoin, reboot, and rejoin the domain. Despite this, the samba server successfully creates the computer account. 2. Therefore, if I try again a second time, without deleting the already created computer account, I get a different error: The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "ITIA": The specified account already exists. (Note that until a while ago samba wasn't configured to automatically create computer accounts. What I did whenever I wanted an XP to join was to manually create it. When I first attempted to solve the Windows 7 join problem, I setup samba to do this automatically, as this is what most people do, as I understand, and I thought that it might be related. • Ping: Destination Host Unreachable, from the destination host itself

  I have a server that responds in a weird way to ping: $ ping hostname.com PING hostname.com (<IP address>) 56(84) bytes of data. • Excessive Outbound DNS Traffic

  I have a VPS system which I have had for 3 years on one host without issue. Recently, the host started sending an extreme amount of outbound DNS traffic to 31.193.132.138. Due to the way that Linode responded to this, I have recently left Linode and moved to 6sync. The server was completely rebuilt on 6sync with the exception of postfix mail configurations. Currently, the daemons run are as follows: sshd nginx postfix dovecot php5-fpm (localhost only) spampd (localhost only) clamsmtpd (localhost only) Given that the server was 100% rebuilt, I can't find any serious exploits against the above stated daemons, passwords have changed, ssh keys don't even exist on the rebuild yet, etc... it seems extremely unlikely that this is a compromise which is being used to DoS the address. The provided IP is noted online as a known SPAM source. My initial assumption was that it was attempting to use my postfix server as a relay, and the bogus addresses it was providing were domains with that IP registered as their nameservers. I would imagine given my postfix configuration that DNS queries for things such as SPF information would come in with equal or greater amount than the number of attempted spam e-mails sent. Both Linode and 6Sync have said that the outbound traffic is extremely disproportionate. Is there anything (other than malicious activity) that would reasonably explain the behavior? Other than bash history timestamping, are there other things I can do to track the issue down? Informational Since this started happening, I enabled bash history time-stamping (i.e. HISTTIMEFORMAT="%y-%m-%d %T " in .bash_profile) and also added a few other bash history hacks; however, that does not give clues to what happened during the previous occurrences. Outpost has gateway_enable="YES" in its rc.conf which correctly sets net.inet.ip.forwarding to 1 as mentioned earlier. As far as I know, that's all that's required to make a FreeBSD box forward packets between interfaces. Is there something else I could be forgetting ? FWIW, pinging 10.0.1.253 from Kino has the same result - the traffic does not get forwarded. UPDATE: I've found that I can only ping certain IP's on Guchuko's LAN from Outpost. From Outpost I can ping 192.168.0.3 and 192.168.0.2, but 192.168.99 and 192.168.0.4 are unreachable. The same tcpdump behavior can be seen. I think this means the problem can't be due to ipforwarding or routing, because Outpost can reach SOME hosts on Guchuko's LAN but not others and likewise, Guchuko can reach two hosts on Outpost's LAN, but not others. This baffles me.

• Setting up a DNS port redirect?

  I have a domain using CloudFlare's DNS, I want to make it redirect to my server's IP (dynamic IP, port 21 blocked by ISP) which at the moment uses a No-IP DNS. The current setup is that I have a subdomain as a CNAME targetting the No-IP domain, but that only works for things like the Minecraft server (which looks for a set port that isn't blocked by my ISP), and I'd like a solution that lets me redirect port 21 from the CloudFlare domain to port 2121 on the No-IP domain, or something else that points to my dynamic IP, where an FTP server is already set up and running. I've had SRV records mentioned to me but without any further help, and it only made me more confused. Thanks in advance for the help.

• Forward request through IPTables

  I have a server running CentOS with 50 IP addresses on it. I was looking to use it as a proxy server (not just HTTP), but can't find any examples on how to set up the IP Tables. I want to proxy into IP-X and have my request look like its coming from IP-X. I currently do this on squid, but we need to proxy more than just HTTP traffic. I want to use the server I already pay for that has 50 IPs on it as the proxy server.
