  • Unity3d generating a file in iOS and saving it on a linux machine

    I've done a little research and don't know if the following is possible. At the moment I have created a small application in Unity that generates an XML file. This file will be used to help set up my game. It's done in Unity due to it being cross platform with no need to re-write a single line of code. Eventually this will run on an iPad. However, my game will be running on a linux computer and I need to pass over the XML file to the computer that will be running the final game (please don't ask why I'm doing that, it's something I need to do). So what I want to know is the following: Can I generate my XML file on an iPad and have that XML file be saved, and transmitted to a linux machine, without the need to manually copy the file over. If so, how is this possible?

  • TechEd 2012 - last day

    Miss when TechEd was 5 days long!, it's Thursday already and we are on the last day. The snacks haven't appeared, but more developer sessions have. Having access to online schedule is very important, since the new sessions are usually the more interesting ones. On the whole, I think the wifi network has been worse this year - more blank spots, and more areas where performance is bad. I do think its funny that I get better reception on my iPad than my phones (iPad & Nokia/Microsoft). There seems to be less areas for people to plug in their own laptops this year - I do wonder, since more and more people have smart phones, and since most of the attendees are from America, perhaps they are not using the wifi - but rather their own phone provider. If I was in Japan, I would probably do the same. About to attend a session on F#, something which is probably going to be important for me over the next year.

    I’ve been thinking that an eBook reader would be handy since I travel a lot.  I’m not really all that worried about taking novels and pleasure reading as much as taking along work related books and reference material. I haven’t really done a lot of research into the various options (Sony, Kindle, Nook, iPad, etc.) but am aware that not all content can be read on all readers even if it is in ePub format due to DRM. Anybody got a recommendation on which device/store combination offers the best selection of technical reference for a .Net developer with a particular interest in software process engineering? HELP!!   • Flash intro or embedded video?

    So a client of mine wants his homepage to start off something like this: http://www.roche-bobois.com/#/en-CA/home (It's basically a Flash intro that starts with a vector drawing of a furniture showroom that eventually transitions into the image of the actual showroom). Given that some of his users will be using an iPad to view his site, what are some of the alternatives that other developers here use? I'm thinking: Option 1: With PHP, detect if the user is using an iPad/iPhone by checking their user agent string. If they are using a mobile device, then forward to m.abccompany.com (mobile version of the site). Option 2: Convert the Flash video to MP4 or AVI and then embed that, which would allow all users to view his site. Any suggestions if either of these approaches are a good idea?

  • I Choose iNada

    As a laptop and Kindle user, I have been looking at the usual cyclical Apple frenzy in the press with the same kind of amused tolerance I give my three-year-old son.  They never seem to learn, and they keep repeating the same things.  However when I ready articles like this, I am reminded that that is not always the case. I am a happy user of a monster-sized HP HDX laptop, HP touch screen all-in-one system, and multi-screen Dell desktops at home as well as a HP business laptop at work.  I have no iPod, iMac, iTouch or any other relationship with the company who wants to trademark the prefix “i”. I have not missed them. That is not to say that I have no technological gadgets.  I do.  They just do not dominate Every company wants to preserve their customer base, but Apple just does it too rigidly.  The buy-in necessary rubs me wrong.  When the fanboys scream about the next great iApple thing which will kill off another market segment (this time, the iPad will kill off laptops), the amused tolerance returns. From what I have seen, the iPad virtual keyboard is a poor substitute for an actual keyboard.  It was intended to let you get some kind of text into a device that is not really intended for keyboard input, but rather for touch manipulation of a designed interface.  I like the virtual keyboard on my LG Dare cell phone, but you will not catch me writing my next novel with it.  But, you hear, you can connect a real keyboard and get info from another computer.  That is when you realize that the iPad is not a true standalone device like a laptop.  You have to make more hardware purchases to get what you truly want.  It is an expensive accommodation to get you a different form of freedom. So if Apple made a product with me in mind, you can have it.  Everyone gets to make their own choice.  My choice is the iNada.

Riva allows Oracle customers to go beyond the standard Outlook plug-in to deliver additional value for the end user as they interact between Outlook and CRM On Demand. Riva syncs CRM On Demand to ALL Exchange mail apps, not just Windows Outlook.  So, whether customers are using Outlook 2010, Outlook Web Access (web client), Outlook 2011 for Mac, Apple Mail, Outlook on Citrix  or a mobile device, Riva's got them covered. There are no plug-ins to be installed, configured, managed and maintained on users' desktops, laptops as Riva delivers Server-side synchronisation for CRMOD and Exchange. The automation of CRM and Outlook integration will remove the reliance upon users to synchronise between the two with Riva handling this process. Riva allows administrators to define sync policies and apply them to individuals or groups of users depending on their sync requirements. Administrators will be able to determine and manage the exposure of the most pertinent detail to be synchronised between Outlook and CRM On Demand. Custom and organic contact filtering for large deployments i.e. Based on ownership, groupings and contact frequency, filters can be applied on what contact records are shared with the users. Riva provides the capability to synchronise CRM and Outlook beyond Contacts, Calendar entries and Email. The synchronisation can be extended to cater for  opportunities, quotes and custom objects for example within the Outlook interface. Riva SmartConvert Folders can automate the creation of opportunities and associated contacts for example if they don't already exist. This can facilitate a reduction in manual detail entry through quick association whilst also benefiting user adoption. From a mobile perspective, Riva allows users to view and manage their CRM On Demand contacts, calendar, tasks, opportunities and cases from iPad, iPhone, Android and BlackBerry devices.  Again, there are no mobile apps or additional plugins to install, configure or manage. We sync CRM On Demand to Exchange.  Because the mobile device is connected to an Exchange mailbox, the information automatically syncs down to the native address book, calendar and mail apps on the smartphone or tablet.
