  • Latency on mobile networks (Android)

    I am planning to give mobile phone development a shot and was thinking about making some simple multiplayer games. I know latency over local wifi is probably fine but what are the issues with latency over GPRS/3G? I've searched and the best I've seen is someone saying it was 'high', without presenting any concrete numbers. I suppose latency fluctuations are important as well - does anyone have any info on this?

    Trying to get a thread to change form controls in Windows Mobile. Throws an unsupported exception. Does this mean it cant be done at all? If not, how do I go about this? Forms are created in the Parent/Main thread then a thread is created to do some work in the background but I want to make it so the Background thread can update the form to show its completed...

    When I'm travelling I would like to use my iPhone's mobile hotspot feature to provide Internet access for my Windows 7 laptop. However, my mobile data plan has a limit on the amount of data I can use per month, and I would like to restrict Internet access to a few very specific applications (such as a database administration tool and Chrome). Is it possible to create a firewall profile for use with mobile data access? If not, what tools exist that could assist me?

  • Configuration Tips for better Performance with ADF Mobile Apps

    Some tips to keep in mind to make sure ADF Mobile application's performance is optimal: 1. Select release mode in deployment profile. This is perhaps the most important thing to remember to ensure best performance for ADF Mobile Apps. Selecting this option causes the deployer to package optimized JVM and minified JS libs with the mobile app there by significantly improving the over all performance of the application. 2. For iOS you do not need to do anything else other than selecting  release mode in deploy profile. However, on Android you have to create a keystore and configure it in JDev --> Tools --> Preferences --> ADF Mobile --> Platforms : Android as shown in the snapshot below 3. Steps for generating the Keystore for Android using keytool :  4. Logging level setting in logging.properties: Make sure the log level is set to SEVERE for both framework logger as well as the application logger as follows oracle.adfmf.framework.level=SEVERE oracle.adfmf.application.level=SEVERE 5. When using SOAP WebServices with WebService Data Control make sure you select the option to copy the WSDL. This will cause the JDev to download the WSDL and all the XSDs referenced by the WSDL from the server at design time and package them with the application during deployment. This way the application does not incur the cost of downloading these resources at run time from the device.

  • Accessing Secure Web Services from ADF Mobile

    Most of the enterprise Web services you'll access are going to be secured - meaning they'll require you to pass a user/password in order to get to their data.  If you never created a secured Web service, it's simple in JDeveloper! For the below video I just right clicked on a Java class that I exposed as a Web service, and chose  "Web Service Properties" and then checked the "oracle/wss_username_token_service_policy" box from the list of options (that's the option supported by ADF Mobile right now): In the demo below we are going to use a "remote" login server that does the authentication of the user/pass.The easiest way to "create" a remote login server is to create a "regular" web ADF application, secure it, and deploy it on a server. The secured ADF application can just require ADF Authentication with a simple HTTP Basic Authentication - basically the next two images in the Application->Secure->Configure ADF Security menu wizard. ok - so now you have a secured ADF application - deploy it on a server and get the URL for that application.  From this point on you'll see the process in the video which deals with the configuration of your ADF Mobile app. First you'll need to enable security for your ADF mobile application, so it will prompt users to provide a user/pass combination. You'll also need to configure security on specific features. And you can have them use remote login pointing to your regular secured ADF application. Next define your Web service data control. Right click on the web service data control to "define Web Service Security". You'll also need to define the adfCredentialStoreKey property for the Web Service data control in the connections.xml file. This should be it.   • Is there a jQuery lightbox plugin that has thumbnails inside the box?

    I'm trying to find a lightbox style plugin in jQuery that displays thumbnails at the bottom of the picture (or video, or whatever). I found plenty of lightbox plugins, but none that allows navigation by thumbnail inside the box. The plugin must be able to open images, swf and inline content. I realize that jQuery will not be able to generate the thumbnails and that's ok. Do you have any good ones to suggest? Thanks

    I am using the JQuery Slider control for use as a double sided slider (dual slider). It's a great UI control but I'm looking for an alternative that isn't so "fat". Right now, just for me to use the Slider control, I have to include: JQuery core JQuery UI core JQuery Slider plugin When I both minimize using Google's awesome Closure (minimizer) and GZIP the JavaScript, I'm still at around 29kb. Question: Do any comparable (dual) Slider control exist that isn't such a large download?

I open all .js files on Dokuwiki, search for "$(" and replace it with "$DW(", and it works like a charms, but I had to deal with every Dokuwiki plugins that has javascript in it. So, how to alter "$" in prototype libaries/ Dokuwiki?

    Hi, trying to get a jQueryUI datepicker working within a jQuery blockUI dialogue but it appears behind the blockUI dialogue, i.e. in the blanked out area, and when trying to choose a date it disappears but the value not posted. js code is simply; $('#datePicker').datepicker({ inline: true }); against which is part of the blockUI markup to create the dialogue.     Are there any tools that can verify whether a jQuery plugin will be compatible with the latest version of jQuery? Once a large number of jQuery plugins are selected and in use, an unknown number of dependencies can develop. It would be nice to upgrade jQuery, however not all plugins remain supported or provide consistently architected upgrades. The only option seems to be adhoc manual regression testing. It would be nice to have a strategy for dealing with this issue.
