  Does anyone have any advice as to a good framework for simplifying the generation of 3D models? I am trying to construct a parametric program for tasks such as ship design. Actions such as surface modelling, intersections etc are a must. I have investigated openCASCADE and it shows promise but getting it to integrate into a native cocoa interface is not currently achievable (By me at any rate). All ideas and suggestions welcome. Should I just forget it and integrate an X11 window, if so any tutorials for doing this?

• Help Fix a bug - Unexpected T_STRING

  So I have just rebuilt my server, just on local network. Stick my site back on it, try to run the code, and I get a anice T_STRING error. This is all very strange, as I have not changed the code :S <?php $window_ID = -1; if(isset($_POST["window_ID"]) AND $_POST["window_ID"] != null){ $window_ID = trim($_POST["window_ID"]); } ?> This is the start of the file, apter this rather loverly snipit of PHP the rest is just XMl, yet on line 6 appertnlty there is an unexpected T_STRING, which is strange considering all that is on that line is the ?>, then the XML starts up... Any one got any ideas what has gone wrong here? Any chance it ould be magic quotes? I had turned it of before, but I want to now update my code to check for the magic quotes and avoid its stupid actions.

• What is the best way to write faster on Vim using a non-english keyboard?

  I usually use Vim, and its great for the ability to do faster some actions than other editors. However, since I live in Argentina I have a Latin American keyboard, that makes everything in Vim pretty slower (to write / to search, I must press Shift+7). Since I don't want to be changing Keyboard layouts all the time (and its pretty difficult to get used to pressing symbols as in an English keyboard), I was wondering if there was a vim plugin (of .vimrc file) that may be useful for international users.   I want all my views to inherit from a baseview data so I can set some shared properties that all my views will need. Can I set some properties in OnExecuting so I don't have to do it for all Actions? I want to then display the string value of the property in all my view pages. If yes, how can I do this? I need to hook into the base view data somehow? so i'll have: public MyViewData : ViewData { } And I need one for generics also?

How can I change this function, such that it would return 'active' for any links below current controller? In other words, for all actions for Posts controller, the links would be active? Thanks.

OK so I have the String lines that has 4 escaped quotation marks and I wish to replace the first quote with a quote and the end quote with a quote how would I accomplish this without replacing any of the inner quotes?

• How to start coding the "Dining Philosophers" simulation?

  I'm not a beginner at C# but I really need to increase my understanding, so I've picked a classic deadlock problem to code to help teach myself some of the more advanced concepts of C#. The Dining Philosophers Problem seems like a good one, but I need a little help to get started. I know I need to approach the "diners" as objects, but to simulate the random delays between eating, should I look to threading with each diner in a separate thread? Do I need some kind of "master" to monitor all the actions? Any general design concept advice is welcome, but I'd like to do the grunt programming as an exercise. Thanks!

• How to use $.get data to replace certain elements in a webpage?

  I'm using jQuery 1.4.2 to navigate smoothly between similar webpages (in ff3). When clicking on a link, a javascript script should load the new html, filter out the right elements and replace them on the current page. It looks like the $(htmlcode) does not do the thing I expected. The actions below work when loading the page directly, but when using the $.get I have the following problems: the find function seems only to look inside a div element called id="page", which is inside the body element one of the elements has <script>...</script>, but the <script>...</script> is not present in the DOM of $(htmlcode). • Trigger on database using a web application and a winform application

  Hello all, Situation: I have a web application which shows errors and where you can accept those error messages. I also have a service, which checks errors from a system and sets the error messages in the database. When I accept an error in the web application, i would like the service to know which error message has been accepted, so that it can do some other actions. My guess is that this could be done through some sort of trigger, but i can't figure out how. Can anyone help me with this?

  Does it make sense to do error handling and logging inside actions methods or handle the OnException method inside the controllers. One way means writing try/catches in all the action methods even when there is nothing to be done to recover from the error. Handling this at the controller level would allow logging and redirection to an error handler page without writing try/catches inside all the action methods. Which method makes the most sense? • Disabling a window after SendInput()

  From my application I want to do two 'very basic' actions: 1. send a bunch of input (movemouse on window 'W', click, movemouse back) using SendInput() 2. disable window 'W' either by setting its layered alpha property to zero or using EnableWindow(W, FALSE). No matter what the delay between 1 and 2 is, it doesn't work. If I don't ever disable the window, if I don't do step 2, then it works great all the time. I tried putting a Sleep(10000) and it still didn't work. Window gets disabled but it doesn't receive the input. What could I be missing here?

• before_filter not inheriting from parent controller correctly?

  Sorry if this may be a stupid question but I'm unable get my filters to inherit the way the Rails 3 documentation is saying it should. Specifically I have an Admin controller that was generated via: rails generate controller admin I added only a single action to the admin controller, the before filter & the private filter method class AdminController < ApplicationController before_filter require_admin_creds def index end private def require_admin_creds unless current_user && current_user.admin? flash[:error] = ... redirect_to .... end end end I next then created my nested resources under the admin section with: rails generate scaffold admin/model While my admin index is indeed getting the filter, the admin/model index (or any other actions) are not. What is happening under the hood here that I must have excluded? Thanks in advance.

  In an ActionScript 2 project I can create a new MovieClip, right-click on it on the library and select "Component Definition" to add parameters that can be referenced inside the MovieClip. This parameters can be easily changed in the MovieClips's properties. Now, I'm working on an ActionScript 3 project but haven't been able to figure out a way to obtain the values passed in those parameters. I defined a parameter named "textToDisplay" but when I write the following in the Actions for the first frame I get an error: trace(textToDisplay); This is the error: 1120: Access of undefined property textToDisplay.   I can't figure out how to get the following routes. Here's an extract from my routes.rb file: map.resources :treatments map.root :controller => "home" map.connect ':controller/:action/:id' map.connect ':controller/:action/:id.:format' map.connect ':action', :controller => 'home' # replaces the need to manually map pure actions to a default controller map.resources :bookings map.resource :dashboard map.resource :home Now I do realise that the ordering matters, but I can't seem to get them to work correctly. What I want is so http://localhost:3000/bookings/new actually takes you to an action http://localhost:3000/bookings/signmeup if you're either not signed in, or haven't got a login. The problem is that if I change my routes around, when I attempt to create a new booking after I have logged in, then it doesn't POST the form submission and just takes me back to the view page. This is definitely because of the routes as if I rearrange map.resources :bookings to be before all of them, then it works. Any ideas?

  There are a lot of articles devoted to working with data in MVC, and nothing about MVC 2. So my question is: what is the proper way to handle POST-query and validate it. Assume we have 2 actions. Both of them operates over the same entity, but each action has it's own separated set of object properties that should be bound in automatic manner. For example: Action "A" should bind only "Name" property of object, taken from POST-request Action "B" should bind only "Date" property of object, taken from POST-request As far as I understand - we cannot use Bind attribute in this case. So - what are the best practices in MVC2 to handle POST-data and probably validate it.

• Post data with jQuery to ASP.net, am I doing this secure enough?

  For a website I am building, I am using jQuery to post data to Generic Handlers I created for this purpose. Because you need to be logged in, to do most post actions (like 'rate a picture'), I am currently using the following technique: User visits page Page determines if user is logged in On Page_Load the page fills a hidden field with an encrypted string, which contains several needed variables, like User ID, Picture ID (of the picture they are currently viewing), the DateTime when the page was rendered. When the user clicks a "I like this picture"-button, I do a $.ajax post to my Generic Handler, with the encrypted string and the value whether or not they liked the picture. The Generic Handler decrypts the supplied encrypted string and takes a look at the DateTime to determine if it was not too long ago When everything works out, the vote is submitted to the database. In my understanding this is a pretty secure way to handle a situation like this. But maybe I am missing a very important point here. Any advice would be very welcome.

• Simple performance testing tool in C#?

  Hi, At first -I need to do it as my university project so I am not interested in using existing tools. I would like to know whether it is even possible to write a very simple tool that I could use for performance testing of web applications. It would only record actions (I do not know, maybe just packet sniffering?) and then replay. However I have basic idea (record packets on port 80 and sending them again), I do not know how to measure time for each transaction as they are not differentiated. • [C#] Creating standalone, console (shell) for domain-specific operations

  Say that I have a system service, and I want to offer a low-level maintenance access to it. For that purpose, I'd like to create a standalone, console application that somehow connects to server process and lets user type in commands, allow it to use auto-completion and auto-suggestion on single/double TAB press (just like linux bash shell, mysql cli, cmd.exe, and countless others), allow command line editing capabilities (history, cursor keys to move around text..), etc. Now, it's not that much of a problem to create something like that by rolling my own from scratch, handling user input, scanning pressed keys, and doing correct actions. But, why reinvent the wheel? Is there some library/framework that helps with this kind of problems, just like readline library that offers improved command-line editing capabilities under linux? Of course, this new "shell" would respond only to valid, domain-specific commands, and would suggest valid arguments, options, switches... Any ideas? Thanks!

  I'm always writing tests to check my controller restricts people from certain actions depending on their status i.e. logged in, admin? etc Regardless of whether its a get to :index or a puts to :create the code is always the same. I'm trying to refactor this so that i have one method such as should_redirect_unauthenticated_to_login_action(request, action) and call it like so should_redirect_unauthenticated_to_login_action(:get, :index) = get :index But not sure how to dynamically call the various response methods rails provides for functional tests which seem to live in the module ActionController I mucked around with module = Kernel.const_get("ActionController") module::TestProcess.get NoMethodError: undefined method `get' for ActionController::TestProcess:Module can anyone help (im very new to dynamic calling in ruby)

• How to trigger Mouse-Over on iPhone?

  This might seem like a really dumb question, but I am writing an application and I have come across where my mouse-over, mouse-click and mouse-hover need different events bound to them. Now on Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari. It all works as expected. However, on my iPhone the actions will not trigger. Now my question is are their any specific ways I can have the Mouse-Over essentially be fired when I hold my finger down and trigger an event? An example where this doesn't work is right on this website when you hover over a comment it is supposed to display the +1 or flag icon. I am using jquery.
