• Should I charge for travel expenses as a contractor?

  Here's a question for all my fellow contractors - I'm paid quite handsomely for my normal contracted hours (any overtime is billed at the same rate) but do you think it fair to bill for travel time to the other end of the country (regional office) when this takes place outside of the normal working day (or overlapping into the evening) as well as actual time holed up in a hotel room when you get there, ready for a normal working day the next day, along with the return journey? Petrol is claimed normally (nominal rate) and hotel is covered by the company I contract for.

• Can each mobile app have its own client account for payments? (Windows Phone, Android and iPhone)

So can a company have a main account to publish applications (free and chargeable) and still have some sort of client account for each app (so they could view sales and receive full payment directly)?   I have got a table set up in one sheet with "transactions". Each row contains a name of a vendor, the amount owed or paid depending on transaction type, and the due date/transaction date. Here is some simplified sample data: Vendor Date Invoice Payment Vendor A 6/30 $200 Vendor A 6/30 ($200) Vendor B 7/5 $500 Vendor B 7/5 ($500) Vendor C 10/28 $50 Vendor A 10/30 $100 Vendor C 11/15 $50 I have already built a PivotTable from that table to group these transactions by vendor and sum the remainder owed. What I'm trying to figure out is how to, for each vendor, get the next due date (min date of the group, excluding dates < Today()), or if there is no next due date then I want to see the max date for that group. Here is what my PivotTable looks like, plus the date column I'd like to add (assuming Today() = 10/23): Vendor Date Owed Vendor B 7/5 - Vendor C 10/28 $100 Vendor A 10/30 $100 I know calling it next due date might not be so accurate if I end up with the date of a payment in that column, but I'm ok with that. tl;dr : I want to find the next earliest date within each group, or the last date. How do I do this?

• Is there any way to retire a AT&T Yahoo Email Account

  Here are the facts as I (pretty sure) know them. Yahoo handles AT&T's DSL email accounts. I've called AT&T tech support and customer service and they say they can't help, but there has GOT to be a way to do this. It's too simple of a thing not to be able to do. I got behind on my dsl bill and my account got suspended. When I paid my bill, they said my account had been deactivated and I had to get a new account. When I tried to register my account with my old email address it would not let me, saying it was in use. I used a new email. The old email address is tied to a dsl account that can NEVER be reactivated. There has got to be a way to retire the old email address so that I can re-create it as a subaccount on my new dsl account. I'm not interested in anything that was in the old account (emails, addresses, etc) - I just want the address back.

• Google chat on Windows 8 Release Preview Messaging app

  I have connected my Windows live account(Microsoft account), Facebook account and Google account with Windows 8. On "People" Windows 8 app it shows as connected to Microsoft, Facebook, Google, whereas in "Messaging" app its connected only to Microsoft and Facebook. While I can chat with Facebook online contacts and messenger's, I cant find my Google online contacts only on Messaging app. Seems like Google supports only sharing of contacts and not chat as of now. Does anyone knows how to get Google chat on Windows 8 Messaging?

• MOSS 2007 SP2 DB index maintanance

  I've read in the "About Service Pack 2 for SharePoint Products and Technologies" paper that SP2 includes an update for the Update Statistics Timer Job that causes SharePoint to run SQL Server's online index rebuild feature (p.4). I'm uncertain of the terminology here but is this the rebuild that SQL Server uses for minor fragmentation (up to around 40%) and leaves the DB online? I'm also guessing that this will therefore not rebuild severely fragmented indexes as I think this requires the DB to come offline. Can someone please confirm my belief here?

• Map Subdomains to Folders Owned/Run by Other Apache/PHP/Cpanel Users

  I run a small service for Norwegian customers where they get automatically installed and configured Wordpress blogs on their own domains ready immediately after payment is finished. It's quite similar to Page.ly and WPEngine, just aimed at Norwegian customers with Norwegian Wordpress, support, billing etc. The backend is WHM/CPanel (Apache, PHP, mySQL), with a script running immediately after payment that installs and configures Wordpress and sends the customer an email with their username and password. Newly registered domains takes some time to propagate though, so for a day or two my customers unfortunately have to use a temporary URL before I can switch them over to their own domains. Right now my system uses mod_userdir ("serverIP/~cpanelusername"). However, it's not an optimal solution. It looks unprofessional, is confusing, and is quite problematic for both my customers and me. I'd rather prefer the temporary URL for their blogs to be "theirdomainwithoutextension.host.no", with "host.no" being a domain I own and served from the same server as the customer sites. I can easily modify the script to create the subdomains on my "host.no"-domain, but how can I seamlessly map the subdomains to folders owned/ran on/by different CPanel/Apache/PHP users?

• WebApps tendency

  There is a strong tendency of making web apps and even seems that very soon a lot of features will be available online so that for every day use people will have all necessary software free online and they will not need to install any software locally. Only specific (professional) tools that usually people don’t use at home will not be available as a web app. So my question, how do you imagine selling software that was necessary for everyday use and was not free (seems they can't make money any more by selling their product – no need of those products). And what disadvantages have web apps, that is to say, what is bad to use software online compared with having the same software locally (please list)? Please do not consider this question not connected with programming, as I would like to have a little statistics from professional programmers who are aware from nowday’s tendency of software and programming. • How to check if a SWF is running as an AIR app?

  Hi, I'm wondering if there is a way for a SWF to check at runtime whether it is running as an online SWF or an AIR app? I need to use the same SWF to run both online and locally, however when running as an AIR app, external assets are located in a different directory. I'd like to check whether a SWF is local or online so I can change the source path for external assets accordingly. Thanks, Sandro Edit: I just realized this might be a dumb question. :) I may just use flashvars to tell the SWF that it is running within an AIR app.
