    I'm trying to share my 3G data connection via WiFi hotspot. I have an open Hotspot running on my phone(Xperia Neo V - MT11i - Android 2.3.4). But I cannot connect to it from my Ubuntu system.     I receive Word documents by mail and read them using the built-in Gmail reader. Sometimes the documents are password protected and I need to obtain access to a Windows machine with Office installed in order to read them. Is there a quicker / less hassle requiring method ? I don't want to have to install Vmware / Parallels nor Office on my fresh and sterile macbook.

  • Typing math formulas in LaTex and getting them in MathType format?

    I am asked to type some math formulas that can work in Microsoft Office and MathType equation editor. But I only have access to Ubuntu 12.04 near me, there is LibreOffice available under Ubuntu as well, but I am used to type math formulas in LaTex. So I wonder how to provide math formulas that will work in Microsoft Office and MathType, if I work under Ubuntu, preferably with LaTex but LibreOffice being also acceptable since it is still under Ubuntu?   • How to grant standard users access to disk partitions and flash storage?

    I have a partition that I need standard users (not administrators)to have read/write access to. However, this partition does not even appear to them as it does to me as an administrator. How can I make it so that standard users can read/write to this partition? It would be nice if they could have the ability to mount it if needed. I have the same problem with removable media - if I have a flash card in the computer, the standard users cannot see this storage media.

The more devices you add to your home office, the more disastrous the situation under the table becomes: cords falling behind the desk, ugly cables running along the sides and under of the desk, making it almost impossible to clean and remove the dust. This is not my office, but I've seen similar "setups:" I'm looking for good tips/products which help me in keeping the all cables somehow under control and organized.

  • What is the standard way of delivering HTML5 games to portals and such?

    Let me explain what I mean by "standard way of delivering"... Think about Flash games sites. Flash games can be delivered as a single file, either hosted by the site, or, I guess, provided by someone else. HTML5 games, on the other hand, don't have something so standard. Usually, they have their own page, and portals just link to that page. I think that it greatly hinders the purpose of that portal, because, well, you want people to stay on your site and look for other games. Now, I think that a some kind of iframe way of delivering games would help solve this problem greatly. I saw some games doing that, and they were often included on tutorial sites to show a live example, which is obviously a great thing. So, is there a standard at all? Any suggestions? Can you create a game that just preloads itself in an iframe (I heard something about a "single document" or something)?

  • Most standard / Best way to keep the same top menu among different web pages?

    What's the standard way to keep the same menu on top among different web pages without having to duplicate it on each page (I don't mean that it doesn't reload like when using frames and only loading the bottom part; I want the menu to scroll with the page when scrolling down, like this, this, this and pretty much every single web page that exists). I found this answer but the guy can't use Php and I can. Plus, I see several people giving different suggestions, but I assume there is a standard since pretty much every single web page in the whole web have a menu on top that stays the same among multiple pages . I'm just a newbie on web design (I can program Php and Html easily but I have no idea about standards and stuff like that since I'm self-taught guy ;)). What I would normally do is to include the menu with php but I'm not sure if this is the "standard".

  • We have no SW Firewall behind our office HW firewall, admin says its not req'd

    I've recently changed jobs and I've been set up with a new workstation. On all previous places where I've been working they've had some sort of local firewall installed on each and every workstation - but here I've been told not to activate it because it is not necessary since we're already behind a HW Firewall. To me this seem a bit naïve, but I cannot emphasise it. I always thought a local firewall was good practice, ie. if something managed to come through the hw firewall there might be a slight chance other computers on the lan would block the internal threath. We got free access to internet and we got a virus checker installed.

  • Open vSwitch and Xen Private Networks

    I've read about the possibilities of using Open vSwitch with Xen to route traffic between domUs on multiple physical hosts. I'd like to be able to group the multiple domUs I have spread out across multiple physical hosts into a number of private networks. However, I've found no documentation on how to integrate Open vSwitch with Xen (rather than XenServer) and am unsure how I should go about doing so and then creating the private networks described. As you might have gathered then - from research I think Open vSwitch can do what I need it to, but I just can't find anything giving me a push in the right direction of how to actually use it to do so! This may well be because Open vSwitch is quite new (version 1.0 released on May 17). Any pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated!

  • Microsoft Office 2010 start page numbering on page 5

    This is driving me absolutely insane. I want to start the page numbering on page 5 and for it to continue to the end of the document. I've tried using page/section breaks but that didn't work. I've also tried pressing ctrl + F9 while in the footer and adding it in the format { if{ page } < 5 "{ page *roman }" "{ page }" } but that doesn't work either. Does anyone have any ideas? I've been trying to fix this for the past hour.

  • Cannot open files in Visual Studio but in Delphi and Notepad

    About an hour ago Visual Studio 2008 decided that it cannot find files any more. This is on 64 bit Windows Vista. When I right-click on a text file (source code or otherwise) and select "open with" and "Visual Studio 2008", I get the following error (example): Windows cannot find 'C:\Users\ajbrehm\Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Projects\Hello Prism\Hello Prism\Main.pas'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. When I right-click the same file and select "open with" and "Delphi 2010" or "Notepad" (both other options available for text files on my system), the file opens correctly. Oddly enough when the file is part of a Visual Studio project and I open the project itself with Visual Studio (this works), I can open the file from within Visual Studio. Any ideas what might be going on? This started about an hour after I made a complete backup of my Vista VM and after I installed IIS 7, SQL Express, and Sourcegear Vault. The first files I noticed couldn't be opened in Visual Studio any more where Pascal source files in checked-outed folders from Vault. And Vault also seems to be unable to see one of the sources files and claims they don't exist. I found out about Visual Studio not opening ANY files any more when I tried to recreate the file Vault refused to see. Update: I just checked. Another user, "administrator", can still open text files with Visual Studio 2008. Both users have administrator rights. Update: I just restored the hours-old backup. Same problem. Apparently whatever triggered this happened before the install of IIS 7 and SQL Express. Never noticed it before.

  • All the Gear and No Idea: Suggestions for re-designing my home/office/entertainment network

    Help/ Advice/ Suggestions please: I have a load of kit that I love but which currently operate in disconnected, sometimes counter-productive way. Because I never really had a masterplan I just added these things one after another and connected them up in ad hoc ways. Since I bought my Macbook I've found I spend much less time on the MacPro that was until then my main machine. Perversely, as my job involves writing .Net software, I spend a lot of Mac time actually inside a Windows 7 VM. I stream media from the HP box to the PS3 and thus to the TV, but its not without its limitations/annoyances. We listen to each other's iTunes libraries but the music files are all over the place and it would be good to know they were all safely in one location (and fully backed up). I need to come up with a strategy that will allow me to use all the kit for work, play (recording live music, making tunes, iMovie work), pushing/streaming media to the TV and sharing files with my other half (she uses a Windows laptop and her iPod touch). Ideally I'd like to be able to work on any of the machines and have a shared homedrive that was visible to all machines so all my current files were synced up wherever i was. It would be great if I could access everything securely and quickly over the web. I'd also like to be able to set up a background backup process. The kit list thus far: Apple MacPro 8GB/3x250GB RAID0 + 1TB Apple MacBook Pro 13" 8GB/250GB - I spend a lot of my work time on a Windows 7 VM on this. Crappy Acer laptop (for children's use - iPlayer, watching movies/tv files) HP Proliant Server 4GB/80GB+160GB+300GB Sun Ultra 10 2 x 80GB (old, but in top-notch condition) PS3 160GB iPod Classic 2 x 8GB iPod Touch Observations: Part of the problem is our dual use of Windows and OS X - we can't go for a pure NT style roaming profile. Because the server is also used for hosting test/beta applications and a SQL Server db, it can't be dedicated to file serving. The two Macs really could do with sharing a roaming profile or similar. I'd love to be able to do something useful with the Ultra 10. My other half has been trying to throw it away for over five years now and regularly ask what function it serves in my study :-( I've got no shortage of 500GB external USB hard drives iMovie files are very large and ideally would be processed on a RAID system. Apple's TimeMachine isn't so great. If anyone could suggest all or part of a setup that would fulfil some of my requirements I'd be very grateful. I am willing to consider purchasing one or two more bits of kit (an Apple TV and a Squeezebox have been moted by friends) if they will help make efficiencies rather than add to the chaos and confusion. They used to run and end without abending, but now they open and stay open and I have to setup the task to quit them by force before their next scheduled run. I've thought about installing CURL or WGET, but is there a way to do this with R2 without going to that step? Regards.

    Are there mouse pens that work with a Dell laptop running Vista and Word 2007 that allow direct input into Word using the Vista tablet functionality? Currently I can write with my mouse and the tablet OCR recognizes even that poor handwriting but if there is a pen-shaped mouse that I could just plug and play that would be great. Any brands/education etc would be greatly appreciated as I am woefully ignorant on this technology.

  • Office 365 Powershell - Export user, license type, and company field to csv file

    I need to be able to export user name or email address (doesn't matter which), company (from the company field under the organization tab in a user account of the exchange admin console), and license type (e.g. exchange online e1, exchange online kiosk etc...) I am able to export both values in two statements into two separate files but that doesn't do me much good. I can export the username and license type with the following: Get-MSOLUser | % { $user=$_; $_.Licenses | Select {$user.displayname},AccountSKuid } | Export-CSV "sample.csv" -NoTypeInformation And, I can get the company values with the following: Get-User | select company | Export-CSV sample.csv Someone on another forum suggested this - $index = @{} Get-User | foreach-object {$index.Add($_.userprincipalname,$_.company)} Get-MsolUser | ForEach-Object { write-host $_.userprincipalname, $index[$_.userprincipalname], $_.licenses.AccountSku.Skupartnumber} That seems like it should work but it doesn't display any license info in my powershell, it's just blank. Also I wouldn't know how to export that to a csv file. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Associating multiple data with a single entry in Open Office Base

    I'm trying to build a database that I can use to track prices of groceries on certain dates. My problem is that I cannot figure out how to have a single entry associate with multiple data. For example, carrots. The index would be carrots. Then, a few categorizing fields (ie, Produce|Vegetable) Then, I can enter a price, date that the price was valid, store that was selling for said price, etc. And the next time I buy carrots, I can just add a new set of pricing data that would be associated with the original carrots entry. I know very little about database building, so if anyone has something I could just modify, I would greatly appreciate it. Alternatively, a step by step tutorial would be great.
