• Calling Java classes from IzPack

  I am trying to write an IzPack installer which is able to detect a previously installed version of the application. After finding out that it doesn't really support this feature, I think the only way to do this is through writing a Java class and calling it from IzPack. Tim Williscroft has previously suggested this method: <condition type="java" id="jbossEnv"> <java> <class>au.com.codarra.ela.installer.JBossChecker</class <field>hasJBossEnv</field> </java> <returnvalue type="boolean">true</returnvalue> </condition> However, is it possible to call <java> from somewhere other than a <condition> tag? I want to be able to call it from a <variable> tag. Also, is it possible to call a method from a Java class instead of reading a value of a field? I want to be able to pass parameters to my class. Okay so I got this : partial void OnCreated() { this.Id = Guid.NewGuid(); this.DateCreated = this.DateModified = DateTime.Now; this.Username = username; this.Password = password; this.Email = email; this.Birthday = birthday; this.Gender = gender; } However, this gives me two errors: Partial Methods must be declared private. Partial Methods must have empty method bodies. Alright I change it to Private Sub OnCreated() to remove both of those errors. However I am still stuck with...how can I pass it values as I would with a normal custom constructor? Also I am doing this in VB (converted it since I know most know/prefer C#), so would that have an affect on this?

After it I have switched to another platforms, but here I come with problem so question is strongly about jdk 1.6 (or higher :) ). I have 3 coupled class, the nature of coupling concerned with native methods. Bellow is example of this 3 class public interface A { public void method(); } final class AOperations { static native method(. . .); } public class AImpl implements A { @Override public void method(){ AOperations.method( . . . ); } } So there is interface A, that is implemented in native way by AOperations, and AImpl just delegates method call to native methods. These relations are auto-generated. Everything ok, but I have stand before problem. Sometime interface like A need expose iterator capability. I can affect interface, but cannot change implementation (AImpl). Saying in C# I could be able resolve problem by simple partial: (C# sample) partial class AImpl{ ... //here comes auto generated code } partial class AImpl{ ... //here comes MY implementation of ... //Iterator } So, has java analogue of partial or something like.

The options so far are: Set all the private methods to internal and use [assembly: InternalsVisibleTo()] Separate out all the private methods into a separate class and create an interface. Make all the methods virtual and in my tests create a new class that inherits from this class and override the methods. Are there any other options for testing the above class that would be better that what I've listed? If you would pick one of the ones I've listed can you explain why? Thanks

• Monitoring all events in a class and sub-classes

  Hi, I wonder if someone can help me. I've got a console App which I use to debug various components as I develop them. I'd like to be able to log to the console every time an event is fired either in the object I've instantiated or in anything it's instantiated [ad infinitum]. I wouldn't see some of these events normally due to them being consumed further down the chain). Ideally I would be able to log all public and private events but if only public are possible, I can live with that. I've Googled and all I can find is how to monitor a directory - So I'm not sure if this is not possible or simply has a name that I don't know. The sort of information I'm after is similar to what's found in an exception - Target Site, Source, Stack Trace, etc... Could I perhaps do this through reflection somehow? If someone could tell me if this is even possible and perhaps point me at some good resources, I'd be very grateful. • How to use a linkedList and multiple classes with my Java GUI

  How should I use a linked list with my GUI program? The program is supposed to have blocks with textareas and dropdown menus. The number of blocks depends on the number of times the user presses a button. It's supposed to be possible to put blocks within blocks. I want to store the information created, using a linked list and then saving to a file. I'm thinking, for the sub blocks, there would be linked lists within the linked list. Should I use Java.util.LinkedList? How do I add the information? A Node class? Should that be in a separate file? I started to try sitting up a linked list, but it's getting me confused. I'm still unsure about how a person is supposed to make GUI's. I've only seen really simple GUI's. Can anyone tell me how I should arrange things? At the moment, I have three files, one for the main GUI window, one for the question blocks to be inserted within that, and one for some tools to use within those two files to make the code easier to understand. But, there seems to be something wrong with the question block file, because I've been making the background white for each JPanel, and there's a gray outline around the question blocks when I run the program. I probably shouldn't paste a ton of code here...   I am trying to find all of the types in the Models namespace within an ASP.NET MVC assembly from within a testing assembly. I was trying to use LINQ to find the relevant set for me but it is returning an empty set on me. The context goes something like this. There are Ships and Missiles, for which Ships will use Missiles and interact with them A Container exists which will hold 'a list' of ships. A Container exists which will hold 'a list' of planets. One can apply a function over all elements in the Container (for_each) Ships and Missles can be created/destroyed at any time New objects automatically insert themselves into the proper container.   We need to determine a quick way for our web application deployed in a DMZ to communicate to our SQL server that lives in the protected network. Only port 80 is open and available, and no direct SQL traffic is allowed across the firewall. So take the following simple system. A web page (default.aspx) makes a call (string GetData()) that resides in an assembly (Simple.DLL). GetData() uses ADO.NET to open a connection, execute a SQL call, retrieve the data, and return the data to the caller. However, since only port 80 is available and no SQL traffic is allowed, what could we do to accomplish our goal? I believe a .NET remoting solution would work, and I have heard of an architecture where a remoting layer proxies the call from Simple.DLL in the DMZ to another Simple.DLL that runs on the protected side. The remoting layer handles the communication between the two DLL’s. Can someone shed some light on how WCF/remoting can help us and how to get started with a solution?

  I have a service that regularly queries a web server for new messages. The service stores the new messages in an arrayList. These messages are implemented using a custom class, storing all kinds of metadata (strings and longs). An activity then connects to this service to retrieve those messages and display them to the user. I have an .aidl file that describes the interface that the service exposes. package com.example.package; interface MyInterface { List<Message> getMessages(); } The Message class extends the Parcelable class which should allow for the IPC transfer. The problem is this: Eclipse gives me an error saying that the type of List<Message> is unknown. Any imports are marked as invalid. Ideas? Thanks

  Hi! I find it extremely difficult to describe my problem, so here goes nothing: I have a bunch of assertions on the type of a function. These assertions rely on a type variable that is not used for any parameter of the function, but is only used for internal bindings. Whenever I use this function it does not compile because, of course, the compiler has no information from which to guess what type to bind my type variable.
