  I have a table w/ 3 columns: name, phone, date. I have 3 indexes: 1 on phone, 1 on date and 1 on phone and date. I have the following statement: SELECT * FROM ( SELECT * FROM people WHERE phone IS NOT NULL ORDER BY date DESC) as t GROUP BY phone Basically, I want to get all unique phone numbers ordered by date. This table has about 2.5 million rows but takes forever to execute....are my indexes right? UPDATE: My EXPLAIN statement comes back with 2 rows: 1 for primary table and 1 for derived table. It says I am using temporary and using filesort for my primary table. For my derived table, it says my possible keys are (phone), and (phone, date) but it is using filesort.

• I asked a question about arrays before, but this one won't compile

  I asked about this array a little while ago, and I can't see what the problem is. Too tired. What have I done wrong? Basically, I am taking a string array and trying to check to see if it contains numbers or an x (ISBN number validation). I want to take the number from a given input (bookNum), check the input, and feed any valid input into a new array (book). At the line 'bookNum.charAt[j]==book[i]' I get the 'not a statement error'. What gives?   Trying to grasp Prototyping in Javascript. Trying to create my own namespace to extend the String object in JavaScript. Here is what I have so far (a snippet): var ns { alert: function() { alert (this); } } String.prototype.$ns = ns; As you can see, I am trying to place what will be a series of functions into the ns namespace. So I can execute a command like this: "hello world".$ns.alert(); But the problem is, the this doesn't seem to reference the text being sent (in this case, "hello world"). What I get is an alert box with the following: [object Object] Not having a full grasp of the object-oriented nature of JavaScript, I am at a loss, but I am guessing I am missing something simple. Does anyone know how to achieve this? Thanks -

  I would like to create a StringVar() that looks something like this: someText = "The Spanish Inquisition" #Here's a normal variable whose value I will change eventually TkEquivalent = StringVar() #and here's the StringVar() TkEquivalent.set(string(someText)) #and here I set it equal to the normal variable. When someText changes, this variable will too... HOWEVER: TkEquivalent.set("Nobody Expects " + string(someText)) If I do this, the StringVar() will no longer automatically update! How can I include that static text and still have the StringVar() update to reflect changes made to someText? Thanks for your help.

  Hello, I am creating a website and i want to allow personalization to individual users upto some extent like changing font family, background color etc. The problem with this is that, my default css file that i load has already default classes for everything. Now when i fetch the background color from my database, then if there is null value for background color then default css class of mystylesheet.css should be loaded and if the value is not null, then i want to override this with my default css.   Hi guys, I've just updated my nexus one to 2.2...now all of my (own and some from the market) apps throw exceptions and were closed... It's weird, in the app i'm developing atm, there it displays only my start page with buttons, but when i tap on one button to fire an intent to another activity my app gets closed with an exception. Yesterday before the update everything worked fine... The same thing in my emulator: I have two devices, one with API level 7 and one with level 8...Level 7 worked fine, but level 8 killed my app :( What is the problem and how can I solve this? I'm desperatly trying to get it working again :( I hope someone can help me fixing this

  I'm writing an android app that has a standard activity, but also needs to monitor incoming/outgoing calls and texts at all times. In addition, the app needs to notify users of information once a day without having the activity open. The information it notifies users of is stored in a database, so communication with the activity is not necessary. I've been researching for a week and still can't decide how to go about doing this. My instinct tells me I need a remote service that has a constantly running broadcast receiver, but every remote service example I see is overly complicated.   My iPhone app was rejected with the following note: "The following non-public APIs are included in your application: Spi Symbols __memset_chk __memmove_chk" These symbols appear in a small number of apparently cocos2d related object files: Grid.o Primitives.o TextureAtlas.o Curiously, this app had already been approved under the previous SDK, but under 3.2 it's being rejected, though that may have nothing to do with it. I'm not at all sure how to resolve this and appreciate any help anyone can offer. Thanks.

  Hello, I have one page which uses <ui:insert> called master.xhtml which uses one managedbean named MasterBean.java and its of viewScoped. It calls webservice and has all useful data which will be useful in master.xhtml as well as page which is built using master.xhtml (which uses <ui:include>). When i visit data.xhtml (which uses template as master.xhtml) and which uses managed bean as DataBean.java which is also of view scoped, how do i use MasterBean? If i directly use #{Masterbean.property}, won't it create a new instance again? or will it use the bean which is already in view scope? Also how do i use MasterBean in DataBean in such a way that existing MasterBean's instance is used in DataBean. I don't want new instance of MasterBean in DataBean. Thanks in advance. If i am not clear please let me know.

• Question creating PDF document in Zend Framework

  I need to take a ZF rendered view and create a PDF that should look pretty much exactly the same, and email it. The major issue I have right now is getting the HTML created by the view into a string that I can then process with the Zend_PDF::parse method. The view I need to turn into a PDF is the result of a posted form. I've tried grabbing the contents of ob_get_contents into a string after a successful post, but for some reason its not in there. Should I press on with this angle? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  I have a very big table with a lot of rows, every row has stats for every user for certain days. And obviously I don't have any stats for future. So to update the stats I use UPDATE Stats SET Visits=@val WHERE ... a lot of conditions ... AND Date=@Today But what if the row doesn't exist? I'd have to use INSERT INTO Stats (...) VALUES (Visits=@val, ..., Date=@Today) How can I check if the row exists or not? Is there any way different from doing the COUNT(*)? If I fill the table with empty cells, it'd take hundreds of thousands of rows taking megabytes and storing no data.
