  Hi. I really need help debugging an error I'm getting with Passenger on Apache. I've just made a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.4 and have Apache, Ruby and Passenger installed. I'm trying to run a simple rack app but keep getting this error in my Apache error.log [Tue Sep 28 05:54:41 2010] [error] [client 86.171.2.82] Premature end of script headers: The error then continues with The backend application (process 25574) did not send a valid HTTP response; instead, it sent nothing at all. • trigger script on postfix delivery errors

  I'm trying to get postfix to run a script on soft (4xx) and hard (5xx) delivery errors, but I'm not sure where to start. If I understand things correctly, I could insert (pipe-based) filters in the master.cf file, there's a whole 'milter' infrastructure available, an finally I suppose I could simply grep through the mail.info logs. So - any advice? Should I go the 'handle it via master.cf' route, and if so, what daemon should I intercept? 'bounce'? The grep-the-logs route is probably simplest, but I can't help but feel that there is a better way. Any advice appreciated!

• Winamp "Now Playing" POST to PHP script

  I have tried/researched 8 or so different plugins for Winamp that allow this functionality, and none of them seem to work on Windows 7 x64! I need a plugin for Winamp that will send the current playing track information to a PHP script, via GET or POST. I have almost no requirements... it can be the name/artist, or the filename (preferred). No fancy functionality needed, just something basic! The four that I actually are: Now Playing XML HTML Server SongStat Currently Hearing Any suggestions? (Note to Moderators: No, I'm not looking for "shopping recommendations", I just need a plugin that works. • Backup Script - Could Not Open Input File

  this is the backup script that I've got going: http://pastebin.com/4g4E6wUz This is the cron info: /usr/local/bin/php /home/backups/backup-db.php --filename-dated ALL No matter what I do, I keep on getting this error: Could not open input file: /home/backups/backup-db.php - That's the correct location of the file. I just don't know what else to try, I feel I've been working on this for so long now that I've explored every avenue, on the other hand sometimes I think that the time I've spent on it is clouding my thoughts and I'm missing something stupidly obvious. Just wondering if someone can give me a few pointers? Also on a last note, does anyone know of a way/article to auto generate a full backup of cPanel every * amount of days and store it in a location that I want? Kind Regards.

• PHP script unable to email on OpenBSD Apache

  I have a webserver running OpenBSD 4.7 and PHP 5.2.12 out of the ports tree. There is a small contact page that is supposed to send an email to a specific address. When I fill in the form using a web browser, it sends the AJAX request to the PHP page which claims it worked successfully but there is no email. The maillog is empty as well. I created a small php script that replicates this functionality and when I run it by hand using the "php -f" command, it sends an email without a problem. I think this has to do with being chrooted but I can't seem to get it to work. Furthermore, I can't seem to get PHP to log. I told it to log to /var/www/logs/php_errors.log and restarted but can't get it to send anything to the file. Does anyone have any tips for debugging these sort of things in OpenBSD?

  I need to lockdown the system time on a number of PCs via gpedit.msc and then removing administrators from the group and then adding 'administrator' and 'polling'. Can I do this via a script?   Ever since a windows update that took down my IIS6 mail server a few weeks back, I've been really paranoid about my mail server working. So every time I run a windows update I fire up command prompt and send myself a quick test mail. Like so: > telnet localhost 25 > helo domain.com > mail from: [email protected] > rcpt to: [email protected] > data some random body to mail myself . This is a realy great way to test my mail server, but it's a pain in the neck to do quickly. Is there anyway i can run this in a batch script or something as a quick test? I've tried a bat file but this just waits after i call telnet I've also explored if telnet accepts any input files and it does not seem to. What's the best way to do this?

• I want to run a script when known bluetooth device connects/disconnects to WinXP

  I have a laptop on my desk at work. I have screensaver timer enabled, so if I'm not using the computer for ten minutes, it will start the screensaver. I also have "On resume, password protect" option checked. This is useful and I want it to be so. However, sometimes I just sit at my cubicle and read some documents without touching the computer. During that time I want my computer to know that I'm there and that there is no need to start the screensaver. I have a mobile phone that is bluetooth paired with the laptop for synchronizing calendars. Is there some way for a script or a program to know that any (or specified) paired device is connected? While typing this out I thought that there might be some registry entries for this. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? -Rope

E. g. passing parameters through command line operands is not secure, since someone who has an account on the host can run ps and see them. Unnamed pipe is quite secure, as far as I understand, isn't it? I mean, passing parameters to STDIN of the forked process. What about passing parameters in environment vars? Is it secure? What about passing parameters by other means I didn't mention?

• Script or Utility to convert .nab to .csv without importing double entries in Outlook

  Currently our environment is migrating from Groupwise 7 to Outlook 2003 and we have multiple users with mission critical outside contacts in their frequent contacts that will have to be imported in Outlook. Currently our only solution is to export GW contacts to a .nab, import to excel to scrub out the contacts in our own domain (to avoid double entry) and convert to .csv. This current solution will require a lot of man hours for hand holding because most of our users are not technically savvy AT ALL and are frankly too busy to do this themselves. Anyone know of any kind of tool or script to assist with this?

• Startup script for Windows Recovery Environment?

  I'm trying to automate the Windows 7 Recovery Environment. I want the computer to be able to boot into the Recovery Environment, automatically run some commands, and then restart back into Windows. The reason for this is that I want to use the Recovery Environment to edit some system files that are not writable while Windows is running. (Of course, this could be done using GRUB and Linux, but it would be even better if one could use the built-in Windows Recovery Environment and avoid the need to install a separate bootloader and OS.) So far, I've found out how to tell Windows 7 to reboot into the recovery environment: reagentc /boottore shutdown /r /t 0 But once the Recovery Environment loads, it opens a dialog that requires user input to continue. Instead of that dialog, I would like to be able to specify a script to run instead. Any ideas on how to accomplish this would be appreciated. Thanks!

• Execute script before shutting down in Ubuntu

  When I shut down my computer I want to show some pending tasks that I have to do before leaving the office... I did a local application to manage those tasks, so basically I just want to run a command, and shut down after I kill the app executed. I have already tried with these options: * /etc/gdm/PostSession/Default -- this works only when I select LogOut option instead Shutdown. * /etc/rc0.d/K01mycustomscript -- execute script after X is killed * $HOME/.bash_logout -- This looks like does nothing. * ./app-to-run && sudo shutdown -h now -- Don't like it for 2 reasons, prompts for sudo password, and can't use my laptop shutdown button. I am using Ubuntu 10.04

• Start a VPN session using a Terminal script

  I use an OSX Terminal session to start a VPN connection. The command that I execute at the prompt is: /etc/netlock/cvc -c :: This works as expected. I would like to save this to a script file that I can simply double-click to start. I created a file, 'vpn.command', added the command (list above), save it, and given execute permission: chmod +x vpn.command When I double-click the file, Terminal opens a BASH shell, executes the command, then exits. Upon closer inspection, the command is now '/etc/netlock/cvc -c ::; exit;' Why is the extra '; exit;' appended to my command? BTW, is there a way to execute another command, /etc/netlock/cvc -d, when the Terminal session is being closed so I can close the VPN automatically?

• CentOS 6 init script doesn't work properly

  I'm setting up my ruby production server based on CentOS 6. I need a process called god (which is a process monitoring tool) to start at boot. I'm using an init script that I found here. Just as stated in the guide I ran: chkconfig --add god and then chkconfig --level 345 god on After this if I run "service god start|restart" everything works. It loads the available configurations and brings up the related processes (if they are not running). Problem is it doesn't work at boot. If I reboot the system, then I do "ps -aux | grep god". At this point "god" is running but apparently it didn't load the configuration files. If i run again service god restart, it loads everything without problems. What am I doing wrong?

• Script for creating directories and subdirectories on SBS 2008

  I have a small business server 2008 and have a directory named LAWFILES. I have a 6 digit file system (eg 106568) and I create a directory to store anything to do with the file (documents, outlook emails, PDFs, WAV files, ect.) I group 100 files in a 4 digit directory (eg 1065) for quicker access. My new years resolution is to organize these directories. I used to have a script the batch created directories and sub directories but it didn't work the last time I tried it (2 years ago). I would like to run a batch file that would ask for the 4 digit directory name (eg 1065) and then create that directory and 100 subdirectories (106500 - 106599) each of which contained subdirectories named "Documents," "Correspondence" & "Email-Voicemail" Can anyone suggest where I would go to find a scripting language that would be available to accomplish this? • Shell script to fix bad filenames? [closed]

  I'm IT at my small firm; and, despite my dire warnings, everyone puts files on the server with awful names, including leading & trailing spaces, bad characters (including \ ; / + . < > - etc!) They do this by accessing the (FreeBSD/FreeNAS) server via AFP on Macs, so no part of the system complains. Is there a script I can use to go through an entire directory tree and fix bad filenames? Basically replace all spaces & bad ASCII with _ ... and if a file already exists, just slap a _2 or something on the end. I don't suppose there's a way to get the system to enforce good filenaming conventions, is there?

Why would automongobackup report connection errors, even tho it does create the dump files, yet a straight call to mongodump does not? • Why does this PowerShell script hang?

  Today I had to use Start-Sleep many times so I thought I would create a shortcut function for it, sleep($time). However, whenever I entered the function it never exits! It must be an issue with either the data type for the argument for Start-Sleep or the way I am declaring the function. • Need a GUI app for group policy login script

  I wrote a C# 4.0 application that works on a Windows computer but when using Group Policy to set it as a login script, it does not run. The application is being called from the same location and using rsop.msc shows that the application should be run. I see that using C# 4.0 may be a little overkill for this purpose, but it just seems wrong to write a VB6 application to do the same thing. The requirements for the application states that there need to be specific GUI elements that can't be just text on the window. I need larger fonts and color elements. Is there something more appropriate (and current) that I should be using?

• Prompt for credentials in a batch script

  I am trying to perform a network copy of files via a batch script. However, as usual there are some networks where the 'copy' command fails saying 'Bad username or password'. And when I try using xcopy, it never works. I have also tried using, net use \\server\ password /user:domain\username net use \\server\ipc$ /user:domain\username password But none of these work. Any ideas on how I can accomplish this? I was also wondering if it is possible to prompt the ususal Windows login dialog for this...(just an idea) Any leads on this would be highly appreciated. • Script to restart BlackBerry services

  Can somebody give me a script advice/example of how to restart services? I have to restart 17 services, but the first 4 services have to be in the right order and after the restart command is given to one of the services, the next one should be started when the previous one is finished. I know I can restart a service by net command, and I can build a delay by for example a ping command that repeats for an x amount of times, but I never know in advance how long it is going to take for a service to restart.   I would like to have these commands run as the ss user from root mkdir bin cp -r /opt/gitolite . gitolite/install -ln gitolite setup -pk ss.pub mkdir -p .gitolite/hooks/common ln -s /opt/pre-receive .gitolite/hooks/common/ so everything is executed in /home/ss. The 4th line requires $HOME/bin as you can see from the 3rd line. The only way I can get it to work is by adding su -c "command" ss to each line, which is not a nice hack. This is an extension to my previous question, where I wasn't precise enough. Question How do I run all these commands as a script in a practical way?

• Add/Remove script for local printer

  I have a Windows XP machine that runs two applications and both print on a thermal printer connected by a serial port. For one application, the "Generic / Text Only" printer must be present, for the other to work I need to remove it. I've found a few .vbs scripts, but they are for network printer. How do I make them work with my local printer? Is there a better solution? The user would have to run the script every time he needs to switch from an application to another.
