• Beginner having a problem with classes

  I'm working through O'Reilly's "Learning Python" and having a problem with classes. I think I understand the concept, but in practice have stumbled upon this problem. Fron page 88-89: >>> class Worker: def __innit__(self, name, pay): self.name=name self.pay=pay def lastName(self): return self.name.split()[-1] def giveRaise(self, percent): self.pay*=(1.0+percent) Then the book says "Calling the class like a function generates instances of a new type ...etc" and gives this example. bob = Worker('Bob Smith', 50000) This gives me this error: TypeError: this constructor takes no arguments. And then I start muttering profanities. So what am I doing wrong here? Thanks for the help.

  Hi If you are using while activity in SOA Suite 11.1.1.5 and within loop you have a requirement to access repeating node of XML. You might need to use below XPATH expression for accessing the node. Here is the XML that I am using for this example <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?> David DemoJob 1 2012-04-15 40000 0 10 Steve TestJob 1 2012-04-15 40000 0 10 Here you can notice that Emp node is repeating i.e. EmpCollection node will contain multiple employees. Now in loop one of assign activity you need to access a particular node for e.g. For first time loop runs you want to access first node and second time second node and so on. You need to make use of postion() function like bpws:getVariableData('Receive1_Read_InputVariable','body','/ns4:EmpCollection/ns4:Emp[position()=$loopCounter]/ns4:job') Please Note: Here loopCounter is a variable that we have created of type xsd:int and prior to loop we have initialized a value of 1. Loop will run depending on the number of Emp nodes present at runtime. For that in while Activity you can use below XPATH expression ora:countNodes('Receive1_Read_InputVariable','body','/ns4:EmpCollection/ns4:Emp')=bpws:getVariableData('loopCounter') Do let me know in case of any issues or concern.   Earlier this week we asked you to share your favorite techniques for synchronizing and organizing your browser bookmarks. Now we’re back to highlight the most popular techniques, tricks, and services. By far and away, Xmarks was the most frequently mentioned service. For the unfamiliar, Xmarks is a bookmark syncing service that is packed with features. Not only does Xmarks sync bookmarks between browsers and/or computers it also supports iOS, Android, and BlackBerry (mobile integration requires an upgrade to the premium account). In addition to syncing the bookmarks it also integrates with your search results so you can see how other Xmarks users have ranked sites within your search results. Steve-O-Rama highlights one of the many benefits of Xmarks: Xmarks seems to do the job for me. I’ve got a handful of machines, each with three or four browsers; over the years, I’ve accumulated thousands of bookmarks, stretching across many areas of interest. Trying to keep them all straight had been quite a struggle until Xmarks came along. I freaked out when the company was acquired by LastPass, but was subsequently relieved when they continued the free service. • Returning the value of an identity column during/after SQL INSERT command

  Using VS 2010, with ASP.NET, and .NET 3.0, and C#... When I use a System.Web.UI.WebControls.SqlDataSource and call its Insert() method to insert a new row, and that table has an identity column, I'd like my method to return the value of that column. For example, in my SQL 2005 table, I've got: Customer.Id Customer.FirstName Customer.LastName Where Customer.Id is an identity colum. When I call my method InsertNewCustomerRecord( "John", "Smith" ), I'd like to be able to return the Customer.Id that gets automatically generated in the database. Sorry for such a roughly posed question. Let me know if I can add better detail. Thanks.

• MVC Scaffold Template Not Generating?

  Been working on an MVC project and my templates were not generating. I first created my Model inside my "Models" folder, then did a quick compile. Next I went to the Views folder to get it created, right click and say "Add View" then I clicked the checkbox to create an edit page. What happened was the template would never seem to pull in my Model, it would just have the default header items, but the entire model was missing.  My model was defined as follows: public class LogOnModel { [Required][Display(Name = "User name")]public string UserName;[Required][DataType(DataType.Password)][Display(Name = "Password")]public string Password;[Display(Name = "Remember me?")]public bool RememberMe; } See anything wrong with that? I couldn't figure out why each time I created my View and selected the option to create the "Edit" scaffold automatically, it would come up blank. Turns out I'm missing my get / set methods on the Model class items. Here's my code with the correct setup: public class LogOnModel { [Required][Display(Name = "User name")]public string UserName { get; set; } [Required][DataType(DataType.Password)][Display(Name = "Password")]public string Password { get; set; }[Display(Name = "Remember me?")]public bool RememberMe { get; set; } }  I hope that helps someone out, it's pretty simple when I look at it now, but that's always the case!  ~ Steve

• Are these company terms good for a programmer or should I move?

  Here are some of the terms and conditions set forward by my employer. Does these make sense for a job like programming? No freelancing in any way even in your free time outside company work hours (may be okay. May be they wanted their employees to be fully concentrating on their full time job. Also they don't want their employees to do similar work for a competing client. Completely rational in that sense). - So sort of agreed. Any thing you develop like ideas, design, code etc while I'm employed there, makes them the owner of that. Seriously? Don't you think that its bad (for me)? If I'm to develop something in my free time (by cutting down sleep and hard working), outside the company time and resource, is that claim rational? I heard that Steve Wozniak had such a contract while he was working at HP. But that sort of hardware design and also those companies pay well, when compared to the peanuts I get. No other kind of works allowed. Means no open source stuffs. Fully dedicated to being a puppet for the employer, though the working environment is sort of okay. According to my assessment this place would score a 10/12 in Joel's test. So are these terms okay especially considering the fact that I'm underpaid with peanuts?

• stored procedure to find value in 2 columns out of 3

  I am putting in the samle date and i am supposed to do something similar what i am asking. I want to run a query that would pull values in any two columns out 3 if it has a 1 or if any one column has a 1 it will return just those results. However it should search all three columns and in any of the three columns where it found value as 1 it should return that result. Can anyone please help me with this. Thanks in advance.   I inherited a mysql database that has a table with columns like this: object_id, property, value It holds data like this: 1,first_name,Jane 1,last_name,Doe 1,age,10 1,color,red 2,first_name,Mike 2,last_name,Smith 2,age,20 2,color,blue 3,first_name,John 3,last_name,Doe 3,age,20 3,color,red ... Basically what I want to do is treat this table as a regular table. How would I get the id numbers (or all properties) of a person who is age 20 sorted by last and than first name? So far I have: SELECT object_id FROM table WHERE property = 'age' AND value = '20' union SELECT object_id FROM table WHERE property = 'color' AND value = 'red' But I'm not sure how to go about ordering the data. So certainly the software engineering community is aware of these issues. But I feel like our aggregate society does not appreciate how these issues can plague working systems and applications. As Steve McConnell notes: ...Unlike financial debt, technical debt is much less visible, and so people have an easier time ignoring it. If this is true, and I believe that it is, then I fear that governments and businesses may defer regular maintenance and fortification against hackers until it is too late. [Much like NYC and the steam pipes.] My Question: Is there a way that we can avoid the software equivalent of NYC and the steam pipes?

• SSRS Multilookup Function for Names with Comma Separation

  I would like to put the following in a a multilookup drop-down in reporting services: "Smith, John", "Jones, Tim", "Kelly, Andy" The comma separating the first and last name prevents the multilookup from working correctly. I am also unable to use ticks (' or ") in reporting service to keep the separating comma from working like a multilookup comma that separates the fields I want to select from. Is there a way to keep the comma in the names while still allowing multilookup? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

• File paths with XSLT includes

  Hi again everyone. I'm working on a website with a large number of pages, and each one has this in it: <xsl:include href="team-menu.xsl" /> This xsl file is stored in the root directory. Essentially including my "team menu" on each page. My problem is when I include this on nested pages, e.g. "/teammembers/smith.xsl", the links in the menu are broken because they refer to pages that aren't in the same directory as the page i'm viewing. This is probably really easy, but I just don't know how to fix it. Is there a way to tell the XSL the root directory and/or set some sort of global directory? Thanks for your help!
