  • SQL Server Express Failed to Install

I am attempting to install SQL Server Express (as part of the Visual Studio 2010 Professional installation), but it is failing. I am receiving this error log. • Run Explorer in SYSTEM account on Windows Vista or 7 using Sysinternal’s psexec tool?

    - by Rob
Has anyone been successful at launching an instance of Windows Explorer in the SYSTEM account on Windows Vista or 7? It is possible to do this on XP, but I haven't been able to get it to completely work in Vista or 7. Trying to launch Explorer as SYSTEM into session 1 (my user session) results in Explorer exiting immediately and returning an error code of 1. I can launch Explorer as SYSTEM into session 0 with the following command: psexec -i 0 -s explorer That will create an instance of explorer running as SYSTEM with a taskbar and start menu on the hidden session 0 desktop, but won't let you open a file browser window. If you switch to the hidden session 0 desktop and try to open an Explorer window from there to browse files, the following error message appears: "The server process could not be started because the configured identity is incorrect. Check the username and password." I have set the following registry key to 1 for my user account and the SYSTEM account: \Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\SeparateProcess There has got to be a way to make this work? If it is not possible, can anyone explain why? -Rob

  • How should secret files be pushed to an EC2 (on AWS) Ruby on Rails application?

    - by nikc
How should secret files be pushed to an EC2 Ruby on Rails application using amazon web services with their elastic beanstalk? I add the files to a git repository, and I push to github, but I want to keep my secret files out of the git repository. I'm deploying to aws using: git aws.push The following files are in the .gitignore: /config/database.yml /config/initializers/omniauth.rb /config/initializers/secret_token.rb Following this link I attempted to add an S3 file to my deployment: http://docs.amazonwebservices.com/elasticbeanstalk/latest/dg/customize-containers.html Quoting from that link: Example Snippet The following example downloads a zip file from an Amazon S3 bucket and unpacks it into /etc/myapp: sources: /etc/myapp: http://s3.amazonaws.com/mybucket/myobject Following those directions I uploaded a file to an S3 bucket and added the following to a private.config file in the .elasticbeanstalk .ebextensions directory: sources: /var/app/current/: https://s3.amazonaws.com/mybucket/config.tar.gz That config.tar.gz file will extract to: /config/database.yml /config/initializers/omniauth.rb /config/initializers/secret_token.rb However, when the application is deployed the config.tar.gz file on the S3 host is never copied or extracted. I still receive errors that the database.yml couldn't be located and the EC2 log has no record of the config file, here is the error message: Error message: No such file or directory - /var/app/current/config/database.yml Exception class: Errno::ENOENT Application root: /var/app/current

  • Windows Server (SBS) 2008 - Telephony service won't start (missing permissions)

    - by Uri
I am running a SBS 2008 server. It's setup as the domain controller for the network. After a reboot, the Telephony service (and all services that depend on it) refuses to start under the Network Service account. The error given is: Error 1297: A privilege that the service requires to function properly does not exist in the service account configuration. You may use the Services Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in (services.msc) and the Local Security Settings MMC snap-in (secpol.msc) to view the service configuration and the account configuration. This has caused all the network services not to be accessible e.g. terminal services, VPN (RRAS), SQL Server instances. The SSH daemon I have running on the box will accept connections only from localhost, but won't respond on the network. After searching around, the only advice I could find was to grant the Network Service account these permissions: Adjust memory quotas for a process Replace a process level token I set those permissions on both the Default Domain Policy and the Default Domain Controller Policy, but it seemingly had no effect. Most of the services will start if I change them to run under the Local System account, but that didn't make them accessible on the network. I even tried removing the Routing and Remote Access Services feature, rebooting and reinstalling it, but the issue remains. Any ideas?

  • MediaWiki Math Extension Out of Sync

    - by kfmfe04
I am trying to run MediaWiki 1.19.2 on Ubuntu Linux (3.0.0-26-generic #42-Ubuntu AMD 64). It installs fine via tar.gz, however, I run into problems when trying to install the Math extension (via git clone from its repository). I get the following error in the Apache logs: PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined method FSFileBackend::getRootStoragePath() in /var/www/abc.com/html/mediawiki-1.19.2/extensions/Math/Math.body.php on line 361, referer: http://intra.abc.com/wiki/index.php?title=Quality&action=submit so apparently, the latest Math extension is out-of-sync with MediaWiki 1.19.2; the latest Math extension is apparently using post-1.19.2 methods. I tried looking through the git logs for some indication (a tag, perhaps?) of which revision of Math worked with 1.19.2, but no luck. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Edit: Just my luck - after posting this message, I found this link. I think this version should do the job. Consider this question closed/answered.

  • Bind9 zone files

    - by user42780
Well for the better part of the last two hours I've tried to figure out what is actually wrong, but I can't seem to find anything obvious to me. What I'm trying to do is setup my DNS for say(per example) domain.com. This should include two NS records, namely ns1.domain.com and ns2.domain.com. With that there should be a mail record, as well as a CNAME record for www. I've been trough roughly 20 how to's in the last two hours, rewrote everything from scratch four times and I still can't seem to find whats wrong. My only suspicion to this might be two things; the error I get from the bind9 daemon when I stop the service, and the named.conf file. The error I get from the bind9 daemon when stopping the service is: * Stopping domain name service... bind9 rndc: connection to remote host closed This may indicate that * the remote server is using an older version of the command protocol, * this host is not authorized to connect, * the clocks are not syncronized, or * the key is invalid. I honestly doesn't know what this means, apart from the key defined in /etc/bind/rndc.key that's not in the named.conf file(yes, I did try to add it to no avail). Here's all the zone files, and configuration files; http://208.77.101.5/bind9/ If anyone could help, it would be greatly appreciated.

  • Birt on Tomcat unable to find JARs

    - by LostInTheWoods
First, my setup: BiRT Runtime: 3.7.2. Ubuntu 10.04 Tomcat 6 Sun Java 1.6.0 I have a jar file I want to deploy onto the Tomcat server so it is usable by the runtime, so I placed the jar file in /var/lib/tomcat6/webapps/birt/WEB-INF/lib. As I understand it this is the default location for JAR files that are going to be used by a BiRT report. But the jar file is not accessible by the report that is trying to call it. In the BiRT logs I see: Error evaluating Javascript expression. Script engine error: ReferenceError: "DynDSinfo" is not defined. (/report/data-sources/oda-data-source[@id="54"]/method[@name="beforeOpen"]#20) Script source: /report/data-sources/oda-data-source[@id="54"]/method[@name="beforeOpen"], line: 0, text: __bm_beforeOpen() org.eclipse.birt.data.engine.core.DataException: Fail to execute script in function __bm_beforeOpen(). Source: "DynDSinfo" is the class I am trying to reference.. and now for the kicker... this works fine on Tomcat6 on Windows 7. The same files in the same places. So is there some additional configuration or some environmental variable that needs to be set, or something different on the Linux (Ubuntu) platform? All help or ideas gratefully received, Stephen

  • How to add a Linux Partition on FreeBSD

    - by Ömer
Today I installed FreeBSD 9.0 PPC on my Mac mini G4 with 40GB HDD. During installation, (using the FSBD utility 'gpart') I have allocated a total of about 23GB for FreeBSD leaving 17GB totally free (neither partitioned, nor formatted) for a later Linux installation. Now, when try to install Linux (Ubuntu 10.10 PPC) on the remaining 17GB, the Linux/Ubuntu installer (or Linux's Disk Utility for the same matter) wants presumably a linux partition and when I try to add a (Linux) partition on that area using Linux DU it fails with this message: Error creating partition: helper exited with exit code 1: In part_add_partition: device_file=/dev/hda, start=23363101696, size=16644660224, type= Entering MS-DOS parser (offset=0, size=40007761920) No MSDOS_MAGIC found Exiting MS-DOS parser Entering Apple parser Mac MAGIC found, block_size=512 map_count = 17 Leaving Apple parser Apple partition table detected containing partition table scheme = 2 got it Error: The partition's data region doesn't occupy the entire partition. ped_disk_new() failed Now, I'm trying to add a Linux partition on FreeBSD running on the harddisk. I use seemingly most suitable tool for this job: gpart. Here is the 'gpart show ad0' But it seems unable to add a Linux partition because "man gpart" doesn't list either "Linux Partition" nor anything like Ext2 or Ext3/Ext4. The closest thing to Linux Partition in gpart is "mbr" but it doesn't work: #gpart add -t mbr ado So, how to add properly a Linux Partition on FreeBSD? Thanks.

  • Migrated SCOM 2007 R2 Reporting Services but reports are gone

    - by Gabriel Guimarães
I've migrated Reporting Services on a SCOM 2007 R2 install, and noticed that the reports have not being copied. I can create a new report, but the ones I've had because of the management packs are gone. I've tried re-applying the Management Packs however it doesn't re-deploy them and when I try to access for example: Monitoring - Microsoft Windows Print Server - Microsoft Windows Server 2000 and 2003 Print Services - State View - select any item and click Alerts on the right menu. I get the following error: Date: 12/24/2010 12:40:35 PM Application: System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2 Application Version: 6.1.7221.0 Severity: Error Message: Cannot initialize report. Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ReportServerException: The item '/Microsoft.SystemCenter.DataWarehouse.Report.Library/Microsoft.SystemCenter.DataWarehouse.Report.Alert' cannot be found. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • Apache 2.2, worker mpm, mod_fcgid and PHP: Can't apply process slot

    - by mopoke
We're having an issue on an apache server where every 15 to 20 minutes it stops serving PHP requests entirely. On occasions it will return a 503 error, other times it will recover enough to serve the page but only after a delay of a minute or more. Static content is still served during that time. In the log file, there's errors reported along the lines of: [Wed Sep 28 10:45:39 2011] [warn] mod_fcgid: can't apply process slot for /xxx/ajaxfolder/ajax_features.php [Wed Sep 28 10:45:41 2011] [warn] mod_fcgid: can't apply process slot for /xxx/statics/poll/index.php [Wed Sep 28 10:45:45 2011] [warn] mod_fcgid: can't apply process slot for /xxx/index.php [Wed Sep 28 10:45:45 2011] [warn] mod_fcgid: can't apply process slot for /xxx/index.php There is RAM free and, indeed, it seems that more php processes get spawned. /server-status shows lots of threads in the "W" state as well as some FastCGI processes in "Exiting(communication error)" state. I rebuilt mod_fcgid from source as the packaged version was quite old. It's using current stable version (2.3.6) of mod_fcgid. • Tomato OS: "memory exhausted" running vi .... how to solve?

    - by Sam Jones
I have set up tomato (shibby) on an asus RT-N66U router. It works great. I loaded up a few pieces, like transmission and optware. I can run vi, but when I run vi it fails with a "memory exhausted" error, and the terminal session hangs. For reference: If I simply start "vi" it runs fine. But if I specify vi I get the memory exhausted error, even if the file I am opening is just a couple of hundred bytes in size (like fstab). I discovered that my swap partition was not properly set up, so I did that. The swapon command now indicates I really do have a swap: [root@MyRouter samba]$ swapon -s Filename Type Size Used Priority /dev/sda1 partition 32900860 0 1 How can I get vi to work? Thanks! • Importing XML into an AWS RDS instance

I'm trying to load some xml into an AWS RDS (mySql) instance. • Gluster bricks are offline and errors in logs

    - by Roman Newaza
I have substituted all the IP addresses with hostnames and renamed configs (IP to hostname) in /var/lib/glusterd by my shell script. After that I restarted Gluster Daemon and the volume. Then I checked if all the peers are connected: root@GlusterNode1a:~# gluster peer status Number of Peers: 3 Hostname: gluster-1b Uuid: 47f469e2-907a-4518-b6a4-f44878761fd2 State: Peer in Cluster (Connected) Hostname: gluster-2b Uuid: dc3a3ff7-9e30-44ac-9d15-00f9dab4d8b9 State: Peer in Cluster (Connected) Hostname: gluster-2a Uuid: 72405811-15a0-456b-86bb-1589058ff89b State: Peer in Cluster (Connected) I could see mounted volumes size change on all the nodes when I execute df command, so new data is coming. • How to setup a virtual host in Ubuntu?

    - by Rade
I have an app that's accessible via 1.2.3.4/myapp. The app is installed in /var/www/myapp. I've set up a subdomain(apps.mydomain.com) that points to 1.2.3.4. I want the server to point to var/www/myapp if I type apps.mydomain.com/myapp, how do I do that? I have experience creating virtual hosts(lots of them) locally but I'm lost because it's now in production and it's a little different. Here's my virtual host config: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerAdmin webmaster@localhost ServerName apps.mydomain.com/myapp DocumentRoot /var/www/myapp/public <Directory /> Options FollowSymLinks AllowOverride All </Directory> <Directory /var/www/> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride All Order allow, deny allow from all </Directory> ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ /usr/lib/cgi-bin/ <Directory "/usr/lib/cgi-bin"> AllowOverride All Options +ExecCGI -MultiViews +SymLinksIfOwnerMatch Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory> ErrorLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/error.log # Possible values include: debug, info, notice, warn, error, crit, # alert, emerg. LogLevel warn CustomLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/access.log combined </VirtualHost> Any idea why I still see the files instead of pointing me to the document root? Just in case someone might ask, the app is based on Laravel 4 framework. It's really bad right now because anyone can access the files from the browser.

  • How to remove request blocking on apache reverse proxy after failure of backend before asking backen

    - by matnagel
I am working on an apache2 reverse proxy vhost. When the server behind apache is down, the first request to apache shows the error page of course. But at subsequent requests it seems apache delays for some time before asking the backend server again. During all this time (which is short but in development I don't want a delay at all) only the apache error page is shown to the browser, although the backend server is already up. Where is this setting in apache, what is this behaviour, and how can I set the delay time to zero? Edit: I am not trying to change the timeout for a single request. I want to change the blocking time. It is my experience that apache blocks further requests for a certain time before asking a backend server again that has failed once. Edit2: This is what apache delivers: Service Temporarily Unavailable The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later. Apache/2.2.8 (Ubuntu) PHP/5.2.4-2ubuntu5.7 with Suhosin-Patch proxy_html/3.0.0 Server at localhost Port 80 After hitting Ctrl-R in firefox for 60 seconds the page finally appears.

  • Trouble serving vhosts when trying to set up wildcard subdomains with dnsmasq in local development e

    - by Jeremy Kendall
I'm trying to get wildcard DNS enabled on my laptop using dnsmasq. I realize that this has been asked and answered more than once on this forum, but I can't get the solution to work for me. Steps taken so far: Installed dnsmasq Set address=/example.dev/127.0.0.1 in dnsmasq.conf Set listen-address=127.0.0.1 in dnsmasq.conf Ensured nameserver 127.0.0.1 is in /etc/resolv.conf Set prepend domain-name-servers 127.0.0.1; in /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf Created a vhost for example.dev Restarted apache and dnsmasq Note: example.dev is not set in /etc/hosts My vhost for example.dev <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName example.dev DocumentRoot /home/jkendall/public_html/example/public ServerAlias *.example.dev # This should be omitted in the production environment SetEnv APPLICATION_ENV development <Directory /home/jkendall/public_html/example/public> DirectoryIndex index.php AllowOverride All Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory> </VirtualHost> The setup above will server example.dev locally without any problem. It will also serve test.example.dev, but test.example.dev returns the default apache "It works!" index.html from /var/www rather than my index.php in /home/jkendall/public_html/example/public. The solution in this Server Fault thread suggests that address=/.example.dev/127.0.0.1 would resolve my problem, but when I try to use that solution, restarting dnsmasq results in a failure with the error message dnsmasq: error at line 62 of /etc/dnsmasq.conf For grins, I moved my project over to /var/www/example and modified the vhost appropriately. I got the same result as described above. At this point I'm not sure what other steps I can take to resolve the issue. Thoughts?

  • VMware vSphere Hypervisor 5 with Intel SPL 5000 in Raid 0 no boot from DVD?

    - by Richard
I hope this is the correct StackExchange, since I am only using StackOverflow for Web development, but need some help with my server configuration. I would like to install VMware vSphere Hypervisor 5 on my server here at home and run a view machines on it such as Windows Server 2008 and Red Hat. I used to have either OpenSuse or Windows Server 2008 installed but I would like to get into VMWare Hypervisor. My hardware configuration: - Intel S5000PSL with bios version S5000.86B.10.60.0091 build date 10/09/2008 as of read out of bios - E5420 @ 2.5GHz Intel Xeon CPU The Intel Virtualization Technology is enabled in the BIOS - DVD DH20A4P DVD Writer - 8GB ECC Ram I have configured a RAID 0 on my 2 WD 2TB SATA drives I have burned the Hypervisor 5 on an empty DVD and it is bootable, I tested it on my client PC. The main problem here is basically, that I cannot boot the DVD on my server. I have set the Boot Option to the DVD drive. I have booted from the BIOS straight in the DVD drive and it does not work. I do not see any error messages. The only thing I see are the PXE error messages when it tries booting from the network and other devices, obviously without any result. Does anybody know why I cannot boot the DVD? What could cause the problem? I have sucessfully installed Windows Server 2008 via original DVD about 1 year ago, so the DVD drive can read and does work. The DVD drive is available in the BIOS and I have checked all cables and none of them is loose in any way. I even see the light flashing but it does not want to boot from the DVD. I am looking forward to suggestions and things that I should check. Thank you very much

  • Debian's Wordpress with broken plugin path?

    - by Vinícius Ferrão
I've installed an Wordpress from Debian Wheezy package system and the plugins folder appears to be broken. As stated in the error log files of Apache2: [error] File does not exist: /var/lib/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/var The plugins are looking for an URL based on the full path, and not on the relative path. I can "temporary fix" the problem making a symbolic link to /var on the plugins folder, but I know that this is wrong and dirty. I don't know where to start debugging this. So any help is welcome. • Cannot run logwatch due to Date::Manip issue

I tried to run logwatch at follows [root@machine cron.daily]# ./0logwatch ERROR: Date::Manip unable to determine TimeZone. Execute the following command in a shell prompt: perldoc Date::Manip The section titled TIMEZONES describes valid TimeZones and where they can be defined. My date is as follows root@machine cron.daily]# date Thu Aug 23 06:25:21 GMT 2012 Now based on details in various forums I tried to fix this by setting /etc/timezone to “+0800” but it didn’t work My /etc/localtime points to /usr/share/zoneinfo/GMT and is managed by puppet How do I go about fixing this? I still want all my machines to be in GMT timezone. • NetApp FAS270 head doesn't see disks

    - by wfaulk
I have an FAS270C. For months, I've been running it in a split-head manner (that is, with each head serving data totally independently, and without any clustering even being enabled) in order to facilitate moving some data around. I finally got everything situated, moved all the data to one of the heads, and was trying to get clustering set back up. Now when I try to install OnTap onto the "new" head, it cannot see any of the disks in the head shelf. (That is, the shelf into which the heads are inserted.) I've booted into maintenance mode, and it shows me that the 0b adapter, which should be the adapter that that shelf and its disks should be presented on, is in "OFFLINE (physical)" state. If I try to enable it with either "storage enable adapter 0b" or "fcadmin online 0b", it waits for about 30 seconds and then says: [fci.initialization.failed:error]: Initialization failed on Fibre Channel adapter 0b. [fci.adapter.online.failed:error]: Fibre Channel adapter 0b failed to come online. There is currently nothing attached to its external 0b port. I've tried it with and without an SFP plugged into it, and with and without its internal termination switch on. The currently active head can see those disks, and can see that two of them are assigned to the other head. Before I started reconfiguring, the "new" head could see disks on that shelf. They may even be the same disks that OnTap was installed on previously. Does anyone have any idea how to proceed?

  • Intermittent "Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet'"

    - by db2
Our web environment consists of two servers. Web front-end. Dell PowerEdge R610, RHEL 5.5, Apache 2.2.17, php 5.2.14. Database server. Dell PowerEdge R710, Windows 2008 R2 Standard x64, MySQL 5.5.11-log x64. Normally these two work perfectly fine together. However, when I try to get them talking via a dedicated LAN on their secondary NICs (each machine has four of them), things get flaky. I have NIC #2 on both machines configured on the 172.16.1.0/24 subnet, with no gateway or DNS servers (obviously, since it's just those two systems), and I put the private IP address of each machine into the hosts file of the other. The routing tables on both machines look okay after I do this. I've tried this with both a crossover cable draped directly between the two NICs, and also via a dedicated vlan on the switch in the rack. In either case, I get intermittent connection problems. It's a fairly small percentage of connections that fail, but it's enough to cause a significant problem, and I have to switch back to the main network connection, which will contend with all the other traffic and hosts on the switch. The full error message that appears in the application log: SQLSTATE[HY000] [2013] Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error: 110 Am I doing something really dumb that's causing this to not work properly? Anything I can check in MySQL that would explain why it's failing to connect occasionally?

  • WAMP server not starting and a mystery service is using port 80

    - by David Gard
I'm using WAMP on Windows 7 and tonight I'm unable to start it (it's been working fine for about 3 years previously). I first checked the logs, but nothing in there. So I checked the Windows Event Viewer (eventvwr), where I saw 2x errors for each attempted start - The Apache service named reported the following error: (OS 10048)Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port) is normally permitted. : make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:80. The Apache service named reported the following error: no listening sockets available, shutting down. After this, I opened the command prompt and ran netstat -a, and to my surprise there were 3 entries for port 80 - Prot   Local Address  Foreign Address   State TCP   127.0.0.1:80       MyPCName:53831   TIME_WAIT TCP   127.0.0.1:80       MyPCName:57834   TIME_WAIT TCP   127.0.0.1:80       MyPCName:57839   TIME_WAIT From here, I'm kind of lost. As far as I can tell, something is utalising port 80, but I don't know what or why. If anyone is able to suggest what I might do next I'd be most greatful. Thanks.
