  • Moving default web site to another drive

    - by Chadworthington
I set the default location from c:\inetpub\wwwroot to d:\inetpub\wwwroot but when I access my .NET 4.0 site get this error: Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. Please review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately. Parser Error Message: Unrecognized attribute 'targetFramework'. Note that attribute names are case-sensitive. Source Error: Line 105: Set explicit="true" to force declaration of all variables. However, IIS Manager cannot verify whether the built-in account has access. Make sure that the application pool identity has Read access to the physical path. If this server is joined to a domain, and the application pool identity is NetworkService or LocalSystem, verify that <domain>\<computer_name>$ has Read access to the physical path. Then test these settings again. 1) Do I need to grant rights to IIS to the new folder? Which user? I thought it was something like IIS_USER or something similar but I cannot determine the correct name of the user. 2) Also, do I need to set the default version of the framework somewhere at the Default Site level or at the Virtual folder level? How is this done in IIS6, I am used to IIS5 or whatever came with XP Pro. 3) My original site had a subfolder under wwwroot called "aspnet_client." How was this cleated? I manually copied it to the corresponding new location. My app was using seperate ASP specific databases for storing session state and role info, if that is relevant. Thanks

  • How do I change permissions for Windows\Temp?

    - by user1413
I am running Windows Vista Ultimate and I want to change the permissions in Windows\Temp. For example, I want to remove the read-only attribute in General. When I do this I get an error that reads, "You will need to provide administrator permission to change these attributes." When I click continue, it does something but the Read-only box is still partially checked. How do I take control of Windows\Temp?

  • How to exclude directories from Mozy custom backup sets using spotlight queries

    - by bromfiets
I would like to create custom backup sets for Mozy which exclude certain directories. For example, I would like to backup my Itunes folder, but exclude all podcasts. I have created a backup set which searches in /Users/me/Music and used this query kMDItemPath == "*Podcasts*"wc to exclude all matching files. However, nothing matches. Queries which use the kMDItemFSName spotlight attribute work fine, but any query using kMDItemPath doesn't seem to work at all. What am I doing wrong?

  • Want to automate adding Hidden photos to iPhoto using a folder action

    - by Gekitsuu
I'm trying to find away to create an automator action that puts photos into iPhoto but also adds the hidden tag to them. I've started with the folder action template because I'd like to save the files there and have automator kick off a series of steps that ends with the original image being hidden once I've had the enhancement, re-size, etc steps fire off. The only step I can't figure out is applying the hidden image attribute.

  • UNIX tool to dump a selection of HTML?

    - by jldugger
I'm looking to monitor changes on websites and my current approach is being defeated by a rotating top banner. Is there a UNIX tool that takes a selection parameter (id attribute or XPath), reads HTML from stdin and prints to stdout the subtree based on the selection? For example, given an html document I want to filter out everything but the subtree of the element with id="content". Basically, I'm looking for the simplest HTML/XML equivalent to grep.

Is it possible to make salt require that a particular file was appended to as opposed to the file merely existing? It seems like I can only require a file state. The source looks like it strips out any method names from a require attribute. In the example below, I only want the foo service to run if my lines have been appended to /etc/security/limits.conf. file.append: - name: /etc/security/limits.conf - text: - root hard nofile 65535 - root soft nofile 65535 foo: service.running: - enable: True - require: - file.append: /etc/security/limits.conf

  • mod_rewrite and % character

    - by pekrimen
I need to rewrite a URL that contains one or more strings of characters incling a % character (for instance %123) into another string of characters including a % character (for instance %234). I am able to do this using the special THE_REQUEST attribute with something like this: RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^[A-Z]{3,9}\ /(.*)\%123(.*)\ HTTP RewriteRule .* /%1\%234%2 [R,NE] However, this does not work for URLs that contain more than one "%123" strings... The N option has no efect as it seems that the value of THE_REQUEST is not changed. Any ideas?

  • Unrecognized configuration section httpHandlers in Web.Config with Microsoft Visual Web Developer 20

    - by FatboyFudge
Hi all, I am in need of some help with an error message I get with Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2010 Express. I would like to create a gallery for my site so I downloaded the NotesForGallery from codeplex. I have added the reference into the project like it told me to in the installation instructions. The instructions then say Register the ThumbnailHandler in the Web.Config file (httpHandlers section): <httpHandlers> … <add verb="*" path="ThumbnailHandler.ashx" type="NotesFor.ThumbnailHandler, NotesForGallery"/> … </httpHandlers> So I open the web.config file in my solution and I add it in. When I try and start the website (clicking the play button in Web Developer) I get the error message: Unrecognized configuration section httpHandlers. • JAX-WS MarshalException with custom JAX-B bindings: Unable to marshal type "java.lang.String" as an

    - by MoneyMark
I seem to be having an issue with Jax-WS and Jax-b playing nicely together. I need to consume a web-service, which has a predefined WSDL. When executing the generated client I am receiving the following error: javax.xml.ws.WebServiceException: javax.xml.bind.MarshalException - with linked exception: [com.sun.istack.SAXException2: unable to marshal type "java.lang.String" as an element because it is missing an @XmlRootElement annotation] This started occurring when I used an external custom binding file to map needlessly complex types to java.lang.string. Here is an excerpt from my binding file: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <bindings xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/jaxb" version="2.0" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:wsdl="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/wsdl/" xmlns:xjc="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/jaxb/xjc"> <bindings schemaLocation="http://localhost:7777/GESOR/services/RegistryUpdatePort?wsdl#types?schema1" node="/xs:schema"> <bindings node="//xs:element[@name='StwrdCompany']//xs:complexType//xs:sequence//xs:element[@name='company_name']"> <property> <baseType name="java.lang.String" /> </property> </bindings> <bindings node="//xs:element[@name='StwrdCompany']//xs:complexType//xs:sequence//xs:element[@name='address1']"> <property> <baseType name="java.lang.String" /> </property> </bindings> <bindings node="//xs:element[@name='StwrdCompany']//xs:complexType//xs:sequence//xs:element[@name='address2']"> <property> <baseType name="java.lang.String" /> </property> </bindings> ...more fields </bindings> </bindings> When executing wsimport against the provided WSDL, StwrdCompany is generated with the following variables declared: @XmlRootElement(name = "StwrdCompany") public class StwrdCompany { @XmlElementRef(name = "company_name", type = JAXBElement.class) protected String companyName; @XmlElementRef(name = "address1", type = JAXBElement.class) protected String address1; @XmlElementRef(name = "address2", type = JAXBElement.class) ... more fields ... getters/setters @XmlAccessorType(XmlAccessType.FIELD) @XmlType(name = "", propOrder = { "value" }) public static class CompanyName { @XmlValue protected String value; @XmlAttribute protected Boolean updateToNULL; /** * Gets the value of the value property. * * @return * possible object is * {@link String } * */ public String getValue() { return value; } /** * Sets the value of the value property. * * @param value * allowed object is * {@link String } * */ public void setValue(String value) { this.value = value; } /** * Gets the value of the updateToNULL property. * * @return * possible object is * {@link Boolean } * */ public boolean isUpdateToNULL() { if (updateToNULL == null) { return false; } else { return updateToNULL; } } /** * Sets the value of the updateToNULL property. * * @param value * allowed object is * {@link Boolean } * */ public void setUpdateToNULL(Boolean value) { this.updateToNULL = value; } ... more inner classes } } Finally, here is the associated snippet from the WSDL that seems to be causing such grief. <xs:element name="StwrdCompany"> <xs:complexType> <xs:sequence> <xs:element maxOccurs="1" minOccurs="0" name="company_name" nillable="true"> <xs:complexType> <xs:simpleContent> <xs:extension base="xs:string"> <xs:attribute default="false" name="updateToNULL" type="xs:boolean"/> </xs:extension> </xs:simpleContent> </xs:complexType> </xs:element> <xs:element maxOccurs="1" minOccurs="0" name="address1" nillable="true"> <xs:complexType> <xs:simpleContent> <xs:extension base="xs:string"> <xs:attribute default="false" name="updateToNULL" type="xs:boolean"/> </xs:extension> </xs:simpleContent> </xs:complexType> </xs:element> ... more fields in the same format <xs:element maxOccurs="1" minOccurs="0" name="p_source_timestamp" nillable="false" type="xs:string"/> </xs:sequence> <xs:attribute name="company_xid" type="xs:string"/> </xs:complexType> </xs:element> The reason for the custom binding is so I can map user input from a pojo into the StwrdCompany object more easily, whether it be direct instantiation or through the use of Dozer for bean mapping. I was unable to successfully map between the objects without the custom binding. Finally, one other thing I tried was setting a globalBinding definition: <globalBindings generateValueClass="false"></globalBindings> This caused the server to through an argument mismatch exception since the Soap Message was using xs:string xml types instead of passing the defined complex types, so I abandoned that idea. Any insight into what is causing the MarshalException or how to go about solving the issue of calling the webservice and mapping these objects more easily, is greatly appreciated. I've been searching for days and I sadly think I am stumped.

  • Perl, LibXML and Schemas

    - by Xetius
I have an example Perl script which I am trying to load and validate a file against a schema, them interrogate various nodes. #!/usr/bin/env perl use strict; use warnings; use XML::LibXML; my $filename = 'source.xml'; my $xml_schema = XML::LibXML::Schema->new(location=>'library.xsd'); my $parser = XML::LibXML->new (); my $doc = $parser->parse_file ($filename); eval { $xml_schema->validate ($doc); }; if ($@) { print "File failed validation: $@" if $@; } eval { print "Here\n"; foreach my $book ($doc->findnodes('/library/book')) { my $title = $book->findnodes('./title'); print $title->to_literal(), "\n"; } }; if ($@) { print "Problem parsing data : $@\n"; } Unfortunately, although it is validating the XML file fine, it is not finding any $book items and therefore not printing out anything. If I remove the schema from the XML file and the validation from the PL file then it works fine. I am using the default namespace. If I change it to not use the default namespace (xmlns:lib="http://libs.domain.com" and prefix all items in the XML file with lib and change the XPath expressions to include the namespace prefix (/lib:library/lib:book) then it again works file. Why? and what am I missing? • Dynamic scoping in Clojure?

    - by j-g-faustus
Hi, I'm looking for an idiomatic way to get dynamically scoped variables in Clojure (or a similar effect) for use in templates and such. Here is an example problem using a lookup table to translate tag attributes from some non-HTML format to HTML, where the table needs access to a set of variables supplied from elsewhere: (def *attr-table* ; Key: [attr-key tag-name] or [boolean-function] ; Value: [attr-key attr-value] (empty array to ignore) ; Context: Variables "tagname", "akey", "aval" '( ; translate :LINK attribute in <a> to :href [:LINK "a"] [:href aval] ; translate :LINK attribute in <img> to :src [:LINK "img"] [:src aval] ; throw exception if :LINK attribute in any other tag [:LINK] (throw (RuntimeException. (str "No match for " tagname))) ; ... more rules ; ignore string keys, used for internal bookkeeping [(string? akey)] [] )) ; ignore I want to be able to evaluate the rules (left hand side) as well as the result (right hand side), and need some way to put the variables in scope at the location where the table is evaluated. I also want to keep the lookup and evaluation logic independent of any particular table or set of variables. I suppose there are similar issues involved in templates (for example for dynamic HTML), where you don't want to rewrite the template processing logic every time someone puts a new variable in a template. Here is one approach using global variables and bindings. I have included some logic for the table lookup: ;; Generic code, works with any table on the same format. (defn rule-match? [rule-val test-val] "true if a single rule matches a single argument value" (cond (not (coll? rule-val)) (= rule-val test-val) ; plain value (list? rule-val) (eval rule-val) ; function call :else false )) (defn rule-lookup [test-val rule-table] "looks up rule match for test-val. Returns result or nil." (loop [rules (partition 2 rule-table)] (when-not (empty? rules) (let [[select result] (first rules)] (if (every? #(boolean %) (map rule-match? select test-val)) (eval result) ; evaluate and return result (recur (rest rules)) ))))) ;; Code specific to *attr-table* (def tagname) ; need these globals for the binding in html-attr (def akey) (def aval) (defn html-attr [tagname h-attr] "converts to html attributes" (apply hash-map (flatten (map (fn [[k v :as kv]] (binding [tagname tagname akey k aval v] (or (rule-lookup [k tagname] *attr-table*) kv))) h-attr )))) (defn test-attr [] "test conversion" (prn "a" (html-attr "a" {:LINK "www.google.com" "internal" 42 :title "A link" })) (prn "img" (html-attr "img" {:LINK "logo.png" }))) user=> (test-attr) "a" {:href "www.google.com", :title "A link"} "img" {:src "logo.png"} This is nice in that the lookup logic is independent of the table, so it can be reused with other tables and different variables. (Plus of course that the general table approach is about a quarter of the size of the code I had when I did the translations "by hand" in a giant cond.) It is not so nice in that I need to declare every variable as a global for the binding to work. Here is another approach using a "semi-macro", a function with a syntax-quoted return value, that doesn't need globals: (defn attr-table [tagname akey aval] `( [:LINK "a"] [:href ~aval] [:LINK "img"] [:src ~aval] [:LINK] (throw (RuntimeException. (str "No match for " tagname))) ; ... more rules [(string? ~akey)] [] ))) Only a couple of changes are needed to the rest of the code: In rule-match?, when syntax-quoted the function call is no longer a list: - (list? rule-val) (eval rule-val) + (seq? rule-val) (eval rule-val) In html-attr: - (binding [tagname tagname akey k aval v] - (or (rule-lookup [k tagname] *attr-table*) kv))) + (or (rule-lookup [k tagname] (attr-table tagname k v)) kv))) And we get the same result without globals. (And without dynamic scoping.) Are there other alternatives to pass along sets of variable bindings declared elsewhere, without the globals required by Clojure's binding? Is there an idiomatic way of doing it, like Ruby's binding or Javascript's function.apply(context)?

  • What do I need to change to get this 'acts_as_rateable' Rails plugin working with this code from the

    - by tepidsam
Hello! I'm working my way through the 'Foundation Rails 2' book. In Chapter 9, we are building a little "plugins" app. In the book, he installs the acts_as_rateable plugin found at http://juixe.com/svn/acts_as_rateable. This plugin doesn't appear to exist in 2010 (the page for this "old" plugin seems to be working again...it was down when I tried it earlier), so I found another acts_as_rateable plugin at http://github.com/azabaj/acts_as_rateable. These plugins are different and I'm trying to get the "new" plugin working with the code/project/app from the Foudations 2 book. I was able to use the migration generator included with the "new" plugin and it worked. Now,though, I'm a bit confused. In the book, he has us create a new controller to work with the plugin (the old plugin). Here's the code for that: class RatingsController < ApplicationController def create @plugin = Plugin.find(params[:plugin_id]) rating = Rating.new(:rating => params[:rating]) @plugin.ratings << average_rating redirect_to @plugin end end Then he had us change the routing: map.resources :plugins, :has_many => :ratings map.resources :categories map.root :controller => 'plugins' Next, we modified the following to the 'show' template so that it looks like this: <div id="rate_plugin"> <h2>Rate this plugin</h2> <ul class="star-rating"> <li> <%= link_to "1", @plugin.rate_it(1), :method => :post, :title => "1 star out of 5", :class => "one-star" %> </li> <li> <%= link_to "2", plugin_ratings_path(@plugin, :rating => 2), :method => :post, :title => "2 stars out of 5", :class => "two-stars" %> </li> <li> <%= link_to "3", plugin_ratings_path(@plugin, :rating => 3), :method => :post, :title => "3 stars out of 5", :class => "three-stars" %> </li> <li> <%= link_to "4", plugin_ratings_path(@plugin, :rating => 4), :method => :post, :title => "4 stars out of 5", :class => "four-stars" %> </li> <li> <%= link_to "5", plugin_ratings_path(@plugin, :rating => 5), :method => :post, :title => "5 stars out of 5", :class => "five-stars" %> </li> </ul> </div> The problem is that we're using code for a different plugin. When I try to actually "rate" one of the plugins, I get an "unknown attribute" error. That makes sense. I'm using attribute names for the "old" plugin, but I should be using attributes names for the "new" plugin. The problem is...I've tried using a variety of different attribute names and I keep getting the same error. From the README for the "new" plugin, I think I should be using some of these but I haven't been able to get them working: Install the plugin into your vendor/plugins directory, insert 'acts_as_rateable' into your model, then restart your application. class Post < ActiveRecord::Base acts_as_rateable end Now your model is extended by the plugin, you can rate it ( 1-# )or calculate the average rating. @plugin.rate_it( 4, current_user.id ) @plugin.average_rating #=> 4.0 @plugin.average_rating_round #=> 4 @plugin.average_rating_percent #=> 80 @plugin.rated_by?( current_user ) #=> rating || false Plugin.find_average_of( 4 ) #=> array of posts See acts_as_rateable.rb for further details! I'm guessing that I might have to make some "bigger" changes to get this plugin working. I'm asking this question to learn and only learn. The book gives code to get things working with the old plugin, but if one were actually building this app today it would be necessary to use this "new" plugin, so I would like to see how it could be used. Cheers! Any ideas on what I could change to get the "new" plugin working?

  • Backbone.js Model validation fails to prevent Model from saving

    - by Benjen
    I have defined a validate method for a Backbone.js Model. The problem is that even if validation fails (i.e. the Model.validate method returns a value) the post/put request is still sent to the server. This contradicts what is explained in the Backbone.js documentation. I cannot understand what I am doing wrong. The following is the Model definition: /** * Model - Contact */ var Contact = Backbone.Model.extend({ urlRoot: '/contacts.json', idAttribute: '_id', defaults: function() { return { surname: '', given_name: '', org: '', phone: new Array(), email: new Array(), address: new Array({ street: '', district: '', city: '', country: '', postcode: '' }) }; } validate: function(attributes) { if (typeof attributes.validationDisabled === 'undefined') { var errors = new Array(); // Validate surname. if (_.isEmpty(attributes.surname) === true) { errors.push({ type: 'form', attribute: 'surname', message: 'Please enter a surname.' }); } // Validate emails. if (_.isEmpty(attributes.email) === false) { var emailRegex = /^[a-z0-9._%+-]+@[a-z0-9.-]+\.[a-z]{2,6}$/i; // Stores indexes of email values which fail validation. var emailIndex = new Array(); _.each(attributes.email, function(email, index) { if (emailRegex.test(email.value) === false) { emailIndex.push(index); } }); // Create error message. if (emailIndex.length > 0) { errors.push({ type: 'form', attribute: 'email', index: emailIndex, message: 'Please enter valid email address.' }); } } if (errors.length > 0) { console.log('Form validation failed.'); return errors; } } } }); Here is the View which calls the Model.save() method (see: method saveContact() below). Note that other methods belonging to this View have not been included below for reasons of brevity. /** * View - Edit contact form */ var EditContactFormView = Backbone.View.extend({ initialize: function() { _.bindAll(this, 'createDialog', 'formError', 'render', 'saveContact', 'updateContact'); // Add templates. this._editFormTemplate = _.template($('#edit-contact-form-tpl').html()); this._emailFieldTemplate = _.template($('#email-field-tpl').html()); this._phoneFieldTemplate = _.template($('#phone-field-tpl').html()); // Get URI of current page. this.currentPageUri = this.options.currentPageUri; // Create array to hold references to all subviews. this.subViews = new Array(); // Set options for new or existing contact. this.model = this.options.model; // Bind with Model validation error event. this.model.on('error', this.formError); this.render(); } /** * Deals with form validation errors */ formError: function(model, error) { console.log(error); }, saveContact: function(event) { var self = this; // Prevent submit event trigger from firing. event.preventDefault(); // Trigger form submit event. eventAggregator.trigger('submit:contactEditForm'); // Update model with form values. this.updateContact(); // Enable validation for Model. Done by unsetting validationDisabled // attribute. This setting was formerly applied to prevent validation // on Model.fetch() events. See this.model.validate(). this.model.unset('validationDisabled'); // Save contact to database. this.model.save(this.model.attributes, { success: function(model, response) { if (typeof response.flash !== 'undefined') { Messenger.trigger('new:messages', response.flash); } }, error: function(model, response) { console.log(response); throw error = new Error('Error occured while trying to save contact.'); } }, { wait: true }); }, /** * Extract form values and update Contact. */ updateContact: function() { this.model.set('surname', this.$('#surname-field').val()); this.model.set('given_name', this.$('#given-name-field').val()); this.model.set('org', this.$('#org-field').val()); // Extract address form values. var address = new Array({ street: this.$('input[name="street"]').val(), district: this.$('input[name="district"]').val(), city: this.$('input[name="city"]').val(), country: this.$('input[name="country"]').val(), postcode: this.$('input[name="postcode"]').val() }); this.model.set('address', address); } });

  • Manage Your Favorite Social Accounts in Chrome and Iron with Seesmic

    - by Asian Angel
Are you looking for a way to manage your Twitter, Facebook, Google Buzz, LinkedIn, and Foursquare accounts all in one place? Using the Seesmic Web App for Chrome and Iron you can access your favorite accounts and manage them in a single, simple-to-use interface. A feature that we loved from the start was the ability to access Twitter without creating a special Seesmic account. And in these days of multiple accounts who needs another one to complicate things up? All that you need to do is to sign in with your user name/e-mail along with your password. You do have to authorize access for Seesmic to connect with your account but the whole process (login & authorization) is handled in a single window instance. Now on to a quick look at some of the UI features… The sidebar allows you to add additional columns to the main interface, set your favorite location for Trends, and tie in additional social services as desired. You can also access additional options and controls in the upper right corner. When you are ready to start tweeting click in the blank at the top and enter your text, etc. in the convenient drop-down window that appears. Another nice perk is the ability to switch to a black and grey theme if the white is too bright for your needs. The Seesmic web app provides a simple-to-use, highly efficient way to manage your Twitter account and other favorite social services in a single tab interface. • Enhance Your Browsing with Hyperwords in Firefox

    - by Asian Angel
While browsing it is easy to find information that you would like to know more about, convert, or translate. The Hyperwords extension provides access to these types of resources and more in Firefox. Using Hyperwords Once the extension has finished installing you will be presented with a demo video that will let you learn more about how Hyperwords works. For our first example we chose to look for more information concerning “WASP-12b” using Wikipedia. Notice the small bluish circle on the lower right of the highlighted term…it is the default access for the Hyperwords menu (access by hovering mouse over it). If you hover over the the Wikipedia (or other) link you can access the information in a scrollable popup window. Or if you prefer click on the link to view the information in a new tab. Choose the style that best suits your needs. Hyperwords is extremely useful for quick unit conversions. Suppose you want to share a news story that you have found while browsing. Highlight the title, access Hyperwords, and choose your preferred sharing source. You may need to authorize access for Hyperwords to post to your account. Once you have authorized access you can start sharing those links very easily. This is just a small sampling of Hyperwords many useful features. Preferences Hyperwords has a nice set of preferences available to help you customize it. Alter the menu popup style, add or remove menu entries, and modify other functions for Hyperwords. Conclusion Hyperwords makes a nice addition to Firefox for anyone needing quick access to search, reference, translation, and other services while browsing. • Deploy ASP.NET Web Applications with Web Deployment Projects

    - by Ben Griswold
One may quickly build and deploy an ASP.NET web application via the Publish option in Visual Studio.  This option works great for most simple deployment scenarios but it won’t always cut it.  Let’s say you need to automate your deployments. Or you have environment-specific configuration settings. Or you need to execute pre/post build operations when you do your builds.  If so, you should consider using Web Deployment Projects. The Web Deployment Project type doesn’t come out-of-the-box with Visual Studio 2008.  You’ll need to Download Visual Studio® 2008 Web Deployment Projects – RTW and install if you want to follow along with this tutorial. I’ve created a shiny new ASP.NET MVC project.  Web Deployment Projects work with websites, web applications and MVC projects so feel free to go with any web project type you’d like.  Once your web application is in place, it’s time to add the Web Deployment project.  You can hunt and peck around the File > New > New Project… dialogue as long as you’d like, but you aren’t going to find what you need.  Instead, select the web project and then choose the “Add Web Deployment Project…” hiding behind the Build menu option. I prefer to name my projects based on the environment in which I plan to deploy.  In this case, I’ll be rolling to the QA machine. Don’t expect too much to happen at this point.  A seemingly empty project with a funny icon will be added to your solution.  That’s it. I want to take a minute and talk about configuration settings before we continue.  Some of the common settings which might change from environment to environment are appSettings, connectionStrings and mailSettings.  Here’s a look at my updated web.config: <appSettings>   <add key="MvcApplication293.Url" value="http://localhost:50596/" />     </appSettings> <connectionStrings>   <add name="ApplicationServices"        connectionString="data source=.\SQLEXPRESS;Integrated Security=SSPI;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|aspnetdb.mdf;User Instance=true"        providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/> </connectionStrings>   <system.net>   <mailSettings>     <smtp from="[email protected]">         <network host="server.com" userName="username" password="password" port="587" defaultCredentials="false"/>     </smtp>   </mailSettings> </system.net> I want to update these values prior to deploying to the QA environment.  There are variations to this approach, but I like to maintain environment-specific settings for each of the web.config sections in the Config/[Environment] project folders.  I’ve provided a screenshot of the QA environment settings below. It may be obvious what one should include in each of the three files.  Basically, it is a copy of the associated web.config section with updated setting values.  For example, the AppSettings.config file may include a reference to the QA web url, the DB.config would include the QA database server and login information and the StmpSettings.config would include a QA Stmp server and user information. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <appSettings>   <add key="MvcApplication293.Url" value="http://qa.MvcApplicatinon293.com/" /> </appSettings> AppSettings.config  <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <connectionStrings>   <add name="ApplicationServices"        connectionString="server=QAServer;integrated security=SSPI;database=MvcApplication293"        providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>   </connectionStrings> Db.config  <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <smtp from="[email protected]">     <network host="qaserver.com" userName="qausername" password="qapassword" port="587" defaultCredentials="false"/> </smtp> SmtpSettings.config  I think our web project is ready to deploy.  Now, it’s time to concentrate on the Web Deployment Project itself.  Right-click on the project file and open the Property Pages. The first thing to call out is the Configuration dropdown.  I only deploy a project which is built in Release Mode so I only setup the Web Deployment Project for this mode.  (This is when you change the Configuration selection to “Release.”)  I typically keep the Output Folder default value – .\Release\.  When the application is built, all artifacts will be dropped in the .\Release\ folder relative to the Web Deployment Project root.  The final option may be up for some debate.  I like to roll out updatable websites so I select the “Allow this precompiled site to be updatable” option.  I really do like to follow standard SDLC processes when I release my software but there are those times when you just have to make a hotfix to production and I like to keep this option open if need be.  If you are strongly opposed to this idea, please, by all means, don’t check the box. The next tab is boring.  I don’t like to deploy a crazy number of DLLs so I merge all outputs to a single assembly.  Again, you may have another option and feel free to change this selection if you so wish. If you follow my lead, take care when choosing a single assembly name.  The Assembly Name can not be the same as the website or any other project in your solution otherwise you’ll receive a circular reference build error.  In other words, I can’t name the assembly MvcApplication293 or my output window would start yelling at me. Remember when we called out our QA configuration files?  Click on the Deployment tab and you’ll see how where going to use them.  Notice the Web.config file section replacements value.  All this does is swap called out web.config sections with the content of the Config\QA\* files.  You can reduce or extend this list as you deem fit.  Did you see the “Use external configuration source file” option?  You know how you can point any of your web.config sections to an external file via the configSource attribute?  This option allows you to leverage that technique and instead of replacing the content of the sections, you will replace the configSource attribute value instead. <appSettings configSource="Config\QA\AppSettings.config" /> Go ahead and Apply your changes.  I’d like to take a look at the project file we just updated.  Right-click on the Web Deployment Project and select “Open Project File.” One of the first configuration blocks reflects core Release build settings.  There are a couple of points I’d like to call out here: DebugSymbols=false ensures the compilation debug attribute in your web.config is flipped to false as part of build process.  There’s some crumby (more likely old) documentation which implies you need a ToggleDebugCompilation task to make this happen.  Nope. Just make sure the DebugSymbols is set to false.  EnableUpdateable implies a single dll for the web application rather than a dll for each object and and empty view file. I think updatable applications are cleaner and include the benefit (or risk based on your perspective) that portions of the application can be updated directly on the server.  I called this out earlier but I wanted to reiterate. <PropertyGroup Condition=" '$(Configuration)|$(Platform)' == 'Release|AnyCPU' ">     <DebugSymbols>false</DebugSymbols>     <OutputPath>.\Release</OutputPath>     <EnableUpdateable>true</EnableUpdateable>     <UseMerge>true</UseMerge>     <SingleAssemblyName>MvcApplication293</SingleAssemblyName>     <DeleteAppCodeCompiledFiles>true</DeleteAppCodeCompiledFiles>     <UseWebConfigReplacement>true</UseWebConfigReplacement>     <ValidateWebConfigReplacement>true</ValidateWebConfigReplacement>     <DeleteAppDataFolder>true</DeleteAppDataFolder>   </PropertyGroup> The next section is self-explanatory.  The content merely reflects the replacement value you provided via the Property Pages. <ItemGroup Condition="'$(Configuration)|$(Platform)' == 'Release|AnyCPU'">     <WebConfigReplacementFiles Include="Config\QA\AppSettings.config">       <Section>appSettings</Section>     </WebConfigReplacementFiles>     <WebConfigReplacementFiles Include="Config\QA\Db.config">       <Section>connectionStrings</Section>     </WebConfigReplacementFiles>     <WebConfigReplacementFiles Include="Config\QA\SmtpSettings.config">       <Section>system.net/mailSettings/smtp</Section>     </WebConfigReplacementFiles>   </ItemGroup> You’ll want to extend the ItemGroup section to include the files you wish to exclude from the build.  The sample ExcludeFromBuild nodes exclude all obj, svn, csproj, user, pdb artifacts from the build. Enough though they files aren’t included in your web project, you’ll need to exclude them or they’ll show up along with required deployment artifacts.  <ItemGroup Condition="'$(Configuration)|$(Platform)' == 'Release|AnyCPU'">     <WebConfigReplacementFiles Include="Config\QA\AppSettings.config">       <Section>appSettings</Section>     </WebConfigReplacementFiles>     <WebConfigReplacementFiles Include="Config\QA\Db.config">       <Section>connectionStrings</Section>     </WebConfigReplacementFiles>     <WebConfigReplacementFiles Include="Config\QA\SmtpSettings.config">       <Section>system.net/mailSettings/smtp</Section>     </WebConfigReplacementFiles>     <ExcludeFromBuild Include="$(SourceWebPhysicalPath)\obj\**\*.*" />     <ExcludeFromBuild Include="$(SourceWebPhysicalPath)\**\.svn\**\*.*" />     <ExcludeFromBuild Include="$(SourceWebPhysicalPath)\**\.svn\**\*" />     <ExcludeFromBuild Include="$(SourceWebPhysicalPath)\**\*.csproj" />     <ExcludeFromBuild Include="$(SourceWebPhysicalPath)\**\*.user" />     <ExcludeFromBuild Include="$(SourceWebPhysicalPath)\bin\*.pdb" />     <ExcludeFromBuild Include="$(SourceWebPhysicalPath)\Notes.txt" />   </ItemGroup> Pre/post build and Pre/post merge tasks are added to the final code block.  By default, your project file should look like the following – a completely commented out section. <!– To modify your build process, add your task inside one of        the targets below and uncomment it. Other similar extension        points exist, see Microsoft.WebDeployment.targets.   <Target Name="BeforeBuild">   </Target>   <Target Name="BeforeMerge">   </Target>   <Target Name="AfterMerge">   </Target>   <Target Name="AfterBuild">   </Target>   –> Update the section to remove all temporary Config folders and files after the build.  <!– To modify your build process, add your task inside one of        the targets below and uncomment it. Other similar extension        points exist, see Microsoft.WebDeployment.targets.     <Target Name="BeforeMerge">   </Target>   <Target Name="AfterMerge">   </Target>     <Target Name="BeforeBuild">      </Target>       –>   <Target Name="AfterBuild">     <!– WebConfigReplacement requires the Config files. Remove after build. –>     <RemoveDir Directories="$(OutputPath)\Config" />   </Target> That’s it for setup.  Save the project file, flip the solution to Release Mode and build.  If there’s an issue, consult the Output window for details.  If all went well, you will find your deployment artifacts in your Web Deployment Project folder like so. Both the code source and published application will be there. Inside the Release folder you will find your “published files” and you’ll notice the Config folder is no where to be found.  In the Source folder, all project files are found with the exception of the items which were excluded from the build. I’ll wrap up this tutorial by calling out a little Web Deployment pet peeve of mine: there doesn’t appear to be a way to add an existing web deployment project to a solution.  The best I can come up with is create a new web deployment project and then copy and paste the contents of the existing project file into the new project file.  It’s not a big deal but it bugs me. • Using Oracle ADF Data Visualization Tools (DVT) Line Graphs to Display Weather Information

    - by Christian David Straub
OverviewA guest post by Jeanne Waldman.I have a simple JDeveloper Fusion application that retrieves weather data. I wanted to compare the week's temperatures of different locations in a graph. I decided to check out the dvt:lineGraph component, and it took me a few minutes to add it to my jspx page and supply it with data.Drag and Drop the dvt:lineGraph onto your pageI opened my .jspx page in design modeIn the Component Palette, I selected ADF Data Visualization. Then I dragged 'Line' onto my page.A dialog popped up giving me options of the type of line graph. I chose the default.A lineGraph displayed with some default data. Hook up your weather dataNow I wanted to hook up my own data. I browsed the tagdoc, and I found the tabularData attribute.Attribute: tabularDataType: java.util.ListTagDoc:Specifies a list of data that the graph uses to create a grid and populate itself. The List consists of a three-member Object array for each data value to be passed to the graph. The members of each array must be organized as follows: The first member (index 0) is the column label, in the grid, of the data value. This is generally a String. If the graph has a time axis, then this should be a Java Date. Column labels typically identify groups in the graph. The second member (index 1) is the row label, in the grid, of the data value. This is generally a String. Row labels appear as series labels in the graph (usually in the legend). The third member (index 2) is the data value, which is usually a Double. The first member is the column label of the data value. This would be the day of the week. The second member is the row label of the data value. This would be the location name. The third member is the data value, usually a Double. This would be the temperature. I already had all this information, I just needed to put it in a List with a three-member Object array for each data value.   /**    * This is used for the lineGraph to show the data for each location.    */   public List<Object[]> getTabularData()   {      List<Object[]> tabularData = new ArrayList<Object []>();      List<WeatherForecast> weatherForecastList = getWeatherForecastList();      // loop through the list and build up the tabular data. Then cache it.      for(WeatherForecast wf : weatherForecastList)      {        List<ForecastDay> forecastDayList = wf.getForecastDayList();        String location = wf.getLocation();        for (ForecastDay fday : forecastDayList)        {          String day = fday.getPrettyDate();          String highTemp = fday.getHighF();          tabularData.add(new Object[]{day, location, Double.valueOf(highTemp)});        }             }      return tabularData;    }  Now I bound the lineGraph to this method by setting tabularData to#{weatherForAllLocationsBean.tabularData}weatherForAllLocationsBean is my bean that is defined in faces-config.xml. Adding a barGraphIn about 30 seconds, I added a barGraph with the same data. I dragged and dropped a bar graph onto the page, used the same tabularData as I did in the line graph. The page looks like this:  ConclusionI was very happy how fast it was to hook up my weather data to these graphs. They look great, and they have built in functionality. For instance, I can hide/show a location by clicking on the name of the location in the legend.

  • Is trailing slash automagically added on click of home page URL in browser?

    - by Question Overflow
I am asking this because whenever I mouseover a link to a home page (e.g. http://www.example.com), I notice that a trailing slash is always added (as observed on the status bar of the browser) whether the home page link contains a href attribute that ends with a slash or not. But whenever I am on the home page, the URL on display will not have a trailing slash. I tried entering a slash to the URL in the URL bar. And with Firebug enabled, I notice that the site always return a 200 OK status. An article here discussing this states that having a slash at the end will avoid a 301 redirection. But I am not seeing any redirection, even on this page. Could this be a browser feature that is appending the slash?
