• Web Farm Application deployment best practices

  Hi All, We are having a web farm which hosts multiple ASP.Net applications. We typically have 4 servers on the farm. The dilemma which i am having is in terms of capacity issue of the farm. Lets say i have currently got 200 apps in total. Should I deploy all 200 apps on all 4 servers (i.e. all the servers in the farm are identical) or should i split the applications between 2 sets of server and create 2 smaller farms so that i can then manage the application based on its criticality and usage etc. Any best practices in this area would be highly appreciated.   hi, what information should i know to do the following: we will have 2 servers, each one will have a cPanel WHM installed and 2 will have DNS, we want to insure that redundancy is achieved on both servers, means the servers should work as active/standby unit. 2 cPanel active/standby 2 DNS active/standby also does this have any impact on the mySQL database, do we have to buy another server to use it as the mySQL database or it's possible to sync all the cPanel information from one server to another. thank you.

  I want to set up a webserver. I would like to buy a hardware for that and i am trying to understand if i should buy a desktop and host the webserver on that or do i have to buy some used server from ebay and host on it. Example is http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180986172861&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123 But what is the difference in desktop and server? These days even desktops are coming with high RAM. Only other difference i see is servers have RAID HARD disk. Is there any other difference?

• Mail being delivered to both old and new server.

  Two days ago I migrated our old site to a new server. I turned down the ttl before I did it and some email is still going to our old server and some to our new after a little over 48 hours. Both these are on shared hostgator sites. From what I can tell everything is set up properly. An nslookup points to the right ip address. Any insight? Support just tells me that everything is set up properly and I have to wait for propagation. I've never had it take over 48 hours though.

  Hi all, I have a php code/site at xyz.com. Now I want to run the same site using multiple domains means when somebody open domain1.com, domain2.com ,domain4.com, so on urls, it should run the code/side that is at xyz.com I know one way to do this. I can host all these domains to the server where xyz.com is hosted so all domains will point to same peace of code/site. n above solution i need to hosted the domains manually.   Sorry if this is in the wrong place.I don't really know anything about server-related things, but I'm really curious about this. On my mac I figured out how to make a simple web page viewable via the local ip address or computer name on the LAN, and also how to hook it up with a free hostname from dyndns.com. So the dyndns hostname points to something, how can I access it directly? Typing in the global ip address (of the router) doesn't work, but if it did, how would it know which computer to point to? There must be some way of directly accessing what dyndns hostname points to by typing in some number, right? Sorry I don't really understand how it works.

  I am currently developing a project which is mission-critical. The actual domain name is registered with 1 & 1 and I plan on purchasing DynDNS Custom DNS service (which has 5 different geographical locations for DNS) and then another secondary DNS service to make sure my DNS is as failover safe as possible. Does it matter that the registration is with 1 & 1 - are they a weak link in the chain? All I really use them for is to say that DynDNS is my primary DNS nameserver and then my secondary DNS is my other nameserver. I can transfer the registration to DynDNS - Im just not sure if it really matters or not. Thanks

  Hi I am about to move my site from a VPS to another host's dedicated server. One of my concern is about scaling the site in the future that involves a change of server. Now that I am starting the dedicated server from scratch with only the OS, this means that I need to install the web server stack, including Apache and its mods, PHP, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Tomcat, Solr and a few other softwares like ImageMagick and git. Question: Is there a way for me to setup this new dedicated server such that I can easily migrate the entire site, both the technology stack and the code to the a newer server (upgrade from this new dedicated server) easily without reinstalling and reconfiguring everything? The code for the website is being handled by git and github so thats not a problem. I'm more conerned about the rest of the software required. Side question: The current VPS uses CentOs with cpanel and it seems that many packages are outdated on yum and cpanel interfers with the installation of many packages. Which OS should I go with for the new server? Ubuntu?

  I am trying to figure out the best way to host multiple domains on my Ubuntu server. I have tried multiple options, but I can't get everything to work the way I want it to. I want to be able to add domains without having to restart Apache each time. I tried using mod_vhost_alias (see below), but that maps www.domain.com and domain.com to different folders. I also need to be able to use mod_rewite to map requests for domain.com/app/* to domain.com/somescript.php current httpd.conf: UseCanonicalName Off VirtualDocumentRoot /var/www/%0 Any thoughts?

The website can be recovered by simply renaming a .dll file on the server which effectively reboots the website/application. • I have bought a custom domain and am using it with Gmail. All My mail is being sent as spam. What can I do?

  A while ago, I purchased my own custom domains for my websites. Before I moved them to Gmail, I just created the e-mails in my CPanel at Bluehost.com and worked from there. When the setup was like that, I could send and receive e-mail fine, and it wouldn't be marked as spam. Now I have moved these custom domains to send and receive e-mails at Gmail using Google apps. I have done everything. I have marked the domains as "Authorized" and I believe that should be enough for the mail I send with these custom e-mails is not send as spam. If it matters, I have configured my iPhone to use these custom domains with it and I'm sending all the e-mail from it. What can I do? I started doing all this today but apparently the DNS changes have already taken place. Is there something I have to do, or is it a matter of waiting 48 hours for my mail to not be marked as spam by other providers yet? EDIT: If I send mail via Gmail itself, the mail is delivered fine. If I use my iPhone however, it gets marked as spam.

• Apache httpd.conf handle multiple domains to run the same application

  So what we are looking for is the ability to do the following: We have an application that can load certain settings based on the domain that it is being accessed from. So if you come from xyz.com we show a different logo and if you come from abc.com we show a different logo. The code is the same, running from same server just detects the domain on the run Now we want to get a dedicated server (any suggestions?) that will enable us to point all the doamins that we want to this server (we change the DNS for the domains to that of our server) and then when the user goes to a certain domain they run the same application. Now as far as I can understand we will need to create a "VirtualHost" in apache to handle this. Can we create a wildcard virtualhost that catches all the domains? I am not an expert with Apache at all. So please forgive if this comes out to be a silly question. Any detailed help would be great. Thanks

• Hostname vs webpage domain.

  Hi All, Im just starting to look at deploying a webpage and get into the joy of DNS etc. And im wondering how you set up multiple web-servers all with thier own hostnames/public IP addresses, and yet have them serve up a webpage from one domain. For example, lets say you have a website example.com, and an A record in DNS that points at it's IP address of 1.2.3.4 . You want to have two servers, prod1 and prod2 with some kind of load balancer in front of them for fail over reasons. The way I see it you would want to have the hostnames of these servers as prod1.example.com and prod2.example.com and perhaps loadb.example.com. How would you set up the DNS so this would all work. ie you could ssh to any of the server domains, prod1.example.com, prod2.example.com or loadb.example.com and also just use the www.example.com url to go to the website. And would all these server names be resolvable from the public internet and is that safe? This would be a linux environment, for arguments sake ubuntu, a django framework dynamic website, running in apache 2.2 Cheers Mark

He wonders why users complain the site is slow! So my question is how can we reduce the size of these movies? What software? What settings for bit-rate, etc? Is there free software?   I host my own multiple Websites on my server. How do i setup my own child nameserver? There are 4 different websites, with .com and .net and .ro at the end. I moved them to my own server. My Domain Administration (Registrar) let's me define my own child nameserver with my own IP and i've added my nameserver as my domain nameservers list. ns.something.ro as the first and only in the nameservers list ns.something.ro with my own IP address as the child nameserver I've setup everything and it works (kind of). When i use my ns IP adress directly i can of course access everything. Using "normal" external dnses will not work. As expected others on the web can't resolve correctly. What's wrong? Am i missing something?

  My first post here, I am reading / learning a lot, thanks ;). I've got a mysterious issue (for me) and would really appreciate to get it solved. I've rent a reseller package with bibihost.com and it's now the second time that all my domaines the hoster's site are unavailable from my connection (my Mac and my iPhone), (in browser, per FTP, ping, ab, and traceroute) This has never before happened to me with other web addresses. traceroute get's always stuck at a specific server 40g.vss-1-6k.routers.chtix.eu (91.121.131.29) The sites are all up for everyone else, I've checked with downforeveryoneorjustme.com, a homegrown script loaded to another server and montastic.com My question(s) : Why am I blocked ? Is there anything I can do about it ? If I cannot solve this issue I have to change the hoster, but I really would like to know what's going on. my domaines on this server : tienstiens.fr tomlegrand.com

• NGINX: dynamic locations stored in DB

  Is there a possibility to store nginx locations in DB instead of the config to serve them dynamically? The task is to create dynamic URLs for video files based on user's IP and video ID. The idea is when the user visits my website such an dynamic URL is created and added to the db as a new nginx location that exists just for this user and not for others. Or nginx doesn't fit my task and I need to use another tool? Thanks.
