  I found this function definition void *func(void *param) { } Actually, I have a certain confusion regarding this function definition. What does void * mean in the return type of the function as well as the argument. I am a beginner in C. So please don't mind. • C programming, why does this large array declaration produce a segmentation fault?

• C++ destructor issue with std::vector of class objects

  I am confused about how to use destructors when I have a std::vector of my class. So if I create a simple class as follows: class Test { private: int *big; public: Test () { big = new int[10000]; } ~Test () { delete [] big; } }; Then in my main function I do the following: Test tObj = Test(); vector<Test> tVec; tVec.push_back(tObj); I get a runtime crash in the destructor of Test when I go out of scope. Why is this and how can I safely free my memory?

• linux+apache+sqlite=death?

  The title is a joke. However it is serious as far as my app is concerned. I am running apache with mod mono and my asp.net app is using mono sqlite as its db. When i refresh the page twice i get the DB is locked error. The folder it is in is chmod 777. The webapp is creating sqlite.db and sqlite.db-journal but it doesnt seem to be able to delete the journal. i'm confused. What permissions do i need to set these? i tried precreating the files using 777 and had no luck.

  Hi All I'm very confused about this issue and can't to underestand it.In the Enumerable Documentation, I readed this: that implement System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable and some methods like Select() return IEnumerable that we can use from other methods like Where() after using that.for example: names.Select(name => name).Where(name => name.Length > 3 ); but Enumerable doesn't inherits from IEnumerable and IEnumerable doesn't contain Select(),Where() and etc too... have i wrong ? or exists any reason for this?

• Zoom controls not showing when using a MapView with fill_parent

  Hey everyone I am working on an applications and I am using the built in zoom controls. When using a specific size I can see the zoom controls. When using fill_parent the zoom controls are not visible. How it is setup is a mapview inside of a frame layout(also using fill parent for the height and width but with an offset down the screen. The only thing I can think of is the fill parent issue is with the framelayout and the zoom controls are off the screen. Sorry if this is confusing, I confused myself writing it. Thanks in advance

• Passing parameters among views in a navigation frame INSIDE a custom control

  I created a silverlight 3 application with a navigation frame and 3 views: search, add and edit. I used the app file to pass parameters among the 3 pages, eg: ((App)Application.Current).SNIPSELECTED = currentSnip; Then in the receiving page: currentSnip = ((App)Application.Current).SNIPSELECTED; currentSnip is a SnipItem object: public class SnipItem { public string itemID {get;set;} public string category {get;set;} public string itemDescription {get;set;} public string codeSnip {get;set;} } This worked fine until I decided to make this entire application into a user control and put that inside a second silverlight application with its own navigation frame and app file. The app files are getting confused. The first app file with all my parameter passing is not being read. I know how to pass a simple parameter between views in the first application without the app file (in a query string), but how about these custom types like my currentSnip above?

• Uploading files using HTTP Post Request

  Hi All, I want to upload files to a server which is also owned by me. I could think of two ways, of how this can be achieved. Method1: Use HTTP POST request to upload the files. The standard way of uploading files. Method2: Its a two step process. First the client does a POST request with all the details of the file, to the server. Then the server issues Get request(s) onto the client to get the contents of the file. Here method2 seems to be more secure, as the server is in control. The server can request data from the server only when the server feels it to be appropriate, and restrict the amount of data that needs to be transferred. Still i am confused as i am not an expert in this area. Anyone with more hindsight thoughts on this can you please share. Thanks

  Hello, I have a portion of C code that I am trying to port over to C#. In my C code, I create a socket and then issue a receive command. The receive command is void receive(mysocket, char * command_buffer) { recv(mysocket, command_buffer, COMMAND_BUFFER_SIZE, 0); } now, the command buffer is returned with new values including command_buffer[8] being a pointer to a string. I'm really confused as to how to do this in C# because C# Read() command specifically takes in bytes and not char. The important part is that I get the pointer to the string. Any ideas?

  I'm often confused by this. I've always been taught to name numbers I use often using variables or constants, but if it reduces the efficiency of the program, should I still do it? Heres an example: private int CenterText(Font font, PrintPageEventArgs e, string text) { int recieptCenter = 125; int stringLength = Convert.ToInt32(e.Graphics.MeasureString(text, font)); return recieptCenter - stringLength / 2; } The above code is using named variables, but runs slower then this code: private int CenterText(Font font, PrintPageEventArgs e, string text) { return 125 - Convert.ToInt32(e.Graphics.MeasureString(text, font) / 2); } In this example, the difference in execution time is minimal, but what about in larger blocks of code?

  I understand from the official documentation on unowned relationships that the app must use sets of Key objects on either side of the relationship. This makes perfect sense. Coming from many years of RDBM-style programming, though, I'm pretty confused about how I can model properties of that relationship itself. For example, if I have entities Category and Entry in my many-to-many relationship and would like to persist a dateAdded property, or some other data that are only relevant when both sides of the relationship are known. I suppose it would be possible to create a third class : CategoryEntry that links the two, but this seems like a kludge. What is the proposed way to model this kind of situation ?

  I have an application that is supposed to read from the Registry and when executing a console application my registry access works perfectly. However when I move it over to a test this returns null: var masterKey = Registry.LocalMachine.OpenSubKey("path_to_my_key"); So my question is: Does Visual Studio run Tests with a less privileged process? I tested to see what user this gave me: var x = WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().Name; and it gives me the same as in the console application. So I am a bit confused here.

• Weakly connected balanced digraph

  How can I prove that if a balanced digraph is weakly connected, then it is also strongly connected? (balanced digraph means that for every node, it's indegree and outdegree is the same and weakly connected means the non-directed version of this graph is connected). What I can think of so far is: if the graph is balanced, it means it is a union of directed cycles. So if I remove any cycle, it will stay balanced. Also each vertex in the cycle has one edge coming into it and one edge leading out of it.. Then I guess I need to use some contradiction or induction to prove that the graph is strongly connected.. That's where I confused.

  I am building a webpage using PHP to search within my database. I am able to do a query and get the data to show on my page. I also have a picture that is related to each record. Let's say something like a picture ID for each employee. I am wondering what is the best way to store and retrieve pictures in order to get it show using PHP. Is there a way to store all the pictures in the subfolder like " image" and retrieve the pictures using PHP? I tried to search around on the internet, but I get confused. Also, when I type something in the search box and click the button, is there a way to keep the input in the search box without erasing it? Thank you very much.

• Facebook iframe app redirecting https to http, how?

  I'm trying to get an app working within Facebook, but it seems that no matter what I try including forcing just https in the app settings (see screen shot), the iframe source (Facebooks canvas) seems to change the https address to http (301) which is then producing SEC7111: HTTPS security errors in IE?   I've never built a game before, and I've not programmed for Android before but am looking to do so over the summer by building a game. What type of object do I use for a shape that I want the user to be able to drag around the screen for instance using touch gestures? How do I tie together the MotionEvent, View and Graphics2D to make objects drawn on screen that can be interacted with?   Hi, this has me pretty confused and I can't find the answer anywhere else so thought I'd post here to see if anyone can help! I have a form in an Access 2007 database with a subform (sfSubform) embedded in it. The subform control's SourceObject is set to be another form (fForm). fForm's RecordSource starts out as a table. At one point I want to change the data displayed in the subform to the result of a SQL statement, so I use sfSubform.Form.RecordSource = strSQL. This works fine. However, if I ouput the name of the RecordSource for fForm after making this change, it still gives the name of the table that I orginially set. Does sfSubform.Form.RecordSource not change the source of fForm? Is it a copy of fForm that is embedded in the control? Hope all that makes sense.

Something like: http://www.othersite.com/submitfunnyname?name=blah The other site (othersite.com) has a REST interface that you can call (well actually this is a get example) to submit a funny name to them. Can I do this already with javascript? I'm a little confused on this - I know if that service wants to return some data, I'd need to use something like JSON-P - even though here I'm submitting some data, I guess the service will return some message structure letting me know the result, so it would have to be JSON-P, right? • Is keeping uploads folder outside of 'public_html' enough to keep my application secure from malicio

  Although I realise there are different approaches to securing upload process, I'm still confused when it comes to basic principles. I want to allow users to upload any kind of file they want, but keep my app secure. So my question is: Is it sufficient to store the files with their original names in 'uploads' folder outside 'webroot' and fetching them via some download.php script? If it't not secure enough, please point me in the right direction, or suggest what additional steps I should take to make it safe. Thank you.
