• Congratulations to Gavin Payne–Microsoft Certified Architect

  Huge congratulations to Gavin who became the 6th person in the WORLD outside Microsoft to qualify as a Microsoft Certified Architect in SQL Server today. Gavin’s worked so hard for this since the start of the year and all that work culminated in a grilling 4 hour review board during the PASS summit in Seattle less than 2 weeks ago -- he received his official results last night. To put things into perspective, there are only 25 people on the planet that are qualified to this level in SQL Server; only 6 of those don’t work for Microsoft; and 2 of those work for Coeo. Coeo is the only partner in the UK to have an MCA in SQL Server, and now we have 2! • Acer 7551g - hibernation and suspending don't work

  Issue is quite the same like here, I've tried everything I found and nothing happens. If I use uswsusp, suspending works good, but graphics doesn't wake up, when I want to hibernate system, it tells me "Looking for splash system... none s2disk:snapshotting system" and nothing happens. I'm using ATI drivers, i've tried to disable kms, unload usb3 and network drivers, still nothing. Please help me, I don't want to come back to Windows after my 2-year-relationship with Linux. I can share all files I have with you, just help me.

• PASS Conference 2011 Topic: Multitenant Design and Sharding with SQL Azure

  I am really happy to announce that I have been accepted as a speaker at the 2011 PASS Conference in Seattle. The topic? It will be about SQL Azure scalability using shards, and the Data Federation feature of SQL Azure. I will also talk extensively about the community open-source sharding library Enzo SQL Shard (enzosqlshard.codeplex.com) and show how to make the most out of it. In general, the presentation will provide details about how to properly design an application for sharding, how to make it work for SQL Server, SQL Azure, and how to leverage the upcoming Data Federation technology that Microsoft is planning. The primary objective is to turn sharding an implementation concern, not a development concern. Using a library like Enzo SQL Shard will help you achieve this objective. • Autocad on linux ubuntu 11.10!

  I am trying 3 years now installing autocad,3ds max and revit architecture on ubuntu with the help of wine!Every year i am very optimistic cause i see the new wine versions already improved.So, now i am starting again in a clean ubuntu install to install the autocad 2013 with the wine version wine1.4.I am not trying to have an answer only for me but i want all this ubuntu community try for this and finally we can achieve that!The winetricks have already net framework 4 to install which is the reason i have not already ran in the pas autocad.So, i would like to remove completely my windows 7 partition from my pc and go on a linux machine without loosing the powerfull architectural programms.I know all about blender and staff so i just want you to help find a solution on that because i know there is a solution!Maybe i will have to learn all the c++ or python etc staff.But i am sure that a solution can come with the help of all of us!Any suggestion about this problem will be very nice and helpfull.   My question is, who are software design engineers? And, what is the meaning of the following statement (from a software design engineer job ad)? "Application domain knowledge is essential and....." What is application domain? SDLC? My hope is to become a software engineer one day (OK, to be honest, more than that. I need to be a legend), that who do programming (They say this job has no programming). I am following final year of my Bsc(Hons) in computing and I have completed a foreign diploma, majoring software engineering - Java technologies. Will this job experience help me out to get a job in my desired position, which is mentioned above, after the degree? Wikipedia and google never gave a clear straight forward answer!! Please help!

• What are the benefits of Castle Monorail 3 over ASP.Net MVC?

  I am looking at this question primarily from a career point of view, so I hope you answer it accordingly. I am fairly proficient with Python, can write C++ and I am a final year student of computer science engineering I am looking to learn Haskell because I have heard a lot about it. My question is: apart from learning it because of all the good I have heard about it, is it any good for my career? Is it used in the industry? I am curious to learn it but unless it helps me somehow in my career, I am not willing to make that change at this stage. Looking for some personal experiences here. Thanks!

These instructions have yielded the most progress I have had in the year I have had this laptop. My machine now sees my bluetooth, I can scan for and see devices, and other devices and see my laptop, but pairing continually fails. • What are reasons for Unity3D's owners to force rich guys buying Pro version?

  Well, I have to say that Unity is a really nice thing that can save one a dozen of hours on coding (letting instantly work on gameplay). But what's the idea of forcing (EULA) any party, which made over 100k last fiscal year, to purchase Pro instead of using normal edition!? It feels that this kind of licensing provides hidden benefits to rich guys over me, poor sloven, who can afford buying $3.5k license but obviously will not receive any additional cookies from it. And, by the way, anyone estimated how much Unity's source + Playstation + Xbox license will cost?
