• APC on PHP 5.4 does not seem to be installed after installation

  I've recently upgraded to PHP 5.4 from 5.3.6, I did the command apt-get upgrade php5 with the custom PHP 5.4 repo which I added to the apt-get repositories, now that I upgraded, I restarted php-fastcgi and php5-fpm the APC does not seem to be installed with it after I did pecl install apc it seems to configure and install with the details below: Configuring for: PHP Api Version: 20090626 Zend Module Api No: 20090626 Zend Extension Api No: 220090626 But in my phpinfo() I get this: PHP API 20100412 PHP Extension 20100525 Zend Extension 220100525 Which I don't understand, how can I configure PECL to install with PHP 5.4 with my version, my installation with apc.so is stored to /usr/lib/php5/20090626/ however in /usr/lib/php5/ I have two PHP versions: 20090626 20100525 How can I remove either one and leave PHP 5.4 and manage it to install apc in the correct PHP version? I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 on my server. I need help on this please.

• Is there any trick to join and use Windows 8/8.1 with Samba 4 (4.1.6)?

  It seems that Samba doesn't like at all. I've followed various tutorials and I can't get Windows 8 to work properly with a Ubuntu Server as domain controller. This week i've downloaded ubuntu 14.04 lts and set a fast domain configuration. As usual all other Windows version (XP and 7) work but the newest M$ nightmare doesn't. In this try it doesn't even join the domain, keeps saying the my username or password are wrong. • Can I compile mutt under cygwin?

  I've been trying to compile mutt under cygwin for a few days. The included version is outdated and does not include things I need like header caching. Anyways, I always get the message: "configure: error: no curses library found" I have all the curses + devel stuff installed + termpcap, which I heard might be related. I've tried re-installing, i've tried specifying the location on the configure command line, but i'm not sure i'm doing it right: "--with-curses=/usr/lib/libncurses.a --with-curses=/usr/lib/libncurses.dll.a --with-curses=/usr/include/ncurses" Here's my config.log: http://floatsolutions.net/docs/config.log Any ideas? • Why does yum index get corrupted?

  Occasionally yum's cache gets corrupted and we see errors like this: error: db3 error(-30974) from dbenv->failchk: DB_RUNRECOVERY: Fatal error, run database recovery error: cannot open Packages index using db3 - (-30974) error: cannot open Packages database in /var/lib/rpm The workaround is rm -f /var/lib/rpm/__db* and then the next "yum" command regenerates the data. My question is: what is likely to be causing this? Is there some common task that ignores locks or has other problem that causes this? We have hundreds of CentOS machines and there is no pattern to which see this problem. It could be a "one in a million" issue, which at large scale is seen often. NOTE: I realize this is a very "open ended" question, but if an answer finds the cause, I will go back and turn the question into something more canonical that directly relates to the specific issue.

• How best to automatically deal with multiple site_ruby locations?

  Is there a way to automatically append to $: variable in ruby to account for additional site_ruby locations? Ruby is installed in /usr/local/ and using gem_install will properly install the new ruby files in to /usr/local/lib/ruby/site_ruby. However there are some RPMs for ruby bindings to tools like shadow which we'd like to install and they install to /usr/lib/ruby/site_ruby (no local). Is there a standard way to tell ruby that this directory should also be included by default? I know scripts could dynamically update $: or they could be called with -I but it seems like this is something that should be handled in the install. Has anyone else found a clean way around this kind of problem? thanks, chuck

Hot do I close session or change my config in the appropriate way, to eleminate hang sessions? • ASP.NET app on Apache Mono Ubuntu compiler error as log4net is unable to be found

  I'm trying to get a vulnerable practice ASP.NET web application (WebGoat.NET) installed on Apache Mono on Ubuntu. I've followed this guide and it all went smoothly; however, whenever I try to run the app I get this error: The type or namespace name `log4net' could not be found. Are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference? Log4net.dll is in the lib folder of the application directory. It's also in the /usr/lib/mono/gac directory. I'm not sure where else it needs to be. Any suggestions? Thanks!

• Need to install just libswresample.so.0 on Centos 6 - how? (for FFMPEG)

  I'm trying to get ffmpeg running on a Centos 6 machine and it has been uphill the whole way. I thought I had got it but when I go to use ffmpeg I get the error: ffmpeg: error while loading shared libraries: libswresample.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory I looked in /usr/local/lib, which is where all the libraries are stored, and I do not have that exact file but I do have "libswresample.a". I gave up on the official FFMPEG Centos directions due to all kinds of issues and used yum to install. Where do I find the missing library and can I just put the file in my /usr/local/lib to fix? Thanks -- have a basic Linux understanding, more familiar with Ubuntu than Centos.

  I was having a very hard time getting webex to work under Saucy. Up until now I've been able to just install a java plugin, install ia32-libs, and I was good to go. With Saucy ia32-libs is gone and it's up to us to figure out which 32-bit libraries we need to install. I struggled with this for a few days trying blindly to install this and that until I found a way to get exactly what I need. I got the clue I needed from this post: http://blogs.kde.org/2013/02/05/ot-how-get-webex-working-suse-linux-122-64bit#comment-9534 and for anyone who wants it, here is a step-by-step method to follow that works every time (so far) ***Install JDK and configure java plugin for browser. No need for a 32-bit JDK or Firefox ***Try to start a webex. This will create $HOME/.webex/1324/ ***Check those .so libraries for unresolved dependencies by running ldd against them. For example: ldd $HOME/.webex/1324/*.so >>check.txt Look in check.txt for anything that is not found. • Apache2 on Raspbian: Multiviews is enabled but not working

  I recently moved webserver, from a ubuntuserver set up by my brother (I have sudo) to a rasbianserver set up by my self. On the other server multiviews worked out of the box, but on the raspbian it does not seem to work althoug it seems to be enabled out of the box there as well. What I am trying to do is to get it to find my.doma.in/mobile.php when I enter my.doma.in/mobile in the adress field. • TFS Build Server not finding 'Microsoft.Expression.Interactions&rsquo;

  We’ve been trying to get the build server to pick up the Microsoft.Expression.Interactions.dll needed so we can use things like the ExtendedVisualStateManager and the DataStateBehavior. Adding the DataStateBehavior in Blend adds the reference to the project, so it all compiles fine on the local machine. Checking in the code into a CI server throws up some ugliness: d:\Builds\6\Source\MyFile.xaml (290): The tag 'DataStateBehavior' does not exist in XML namespace 'http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/2010/interactions'. Errr, it should do…?? The reference is there, so… ahhhhh! A quick check of the properties and we’re using the dll from the c:\program files (x86)\ location, no wonder the build server can’t find it – let’s add the dll into our (ever expanding) ‘lib’ folder, reference that version, and check that bad boy in… No. Still No. Still get the same error. What the??? The reference is still pointing to the program files location?? Ok, so let’s modify the csproj file using the wonderful notepad, changing the reference from <Reference Include="Microsoft.Expression.Interactions, /* loadsa shizzle here */ /> to <Reference Include="Microsoft.Expression.Interactions">     <HintPath>..\Lib\Microsoft.Expression.Interactions.dll</HintPath> </Reference> Check that in, aaaand… Success!!! The reason for this (from what I can gather from here) is that we’re using the Productivity Power Tools, and they try to be clever about referencing dlls, and changed what we’d asked (i.e. for the local version) to use the original program files location.. Editing the file in notepad (sweet sweet notepad) gets around this issue… Irritating, took a while to figure this out… Meh :)

• Error when starting update-manager

  Yesterday evening I ran an update. Apparently the python3-update-manager got updated. However, since today I get an error message when I started the update manager within Unity. A report was sent as proposed. Running an update from within the terminal seems to work normally. Uninstalling and re-installing from the ubuntu software centre didn't solve the problem. I tried throughout synaptic where I removed all related packages (3) and re-installed them after a restart..but in vain so far. I'm quite new to linux and ran out of ideas. • How to install mod_ssl for Apache

  Ok So I installed Apache httpd a while ago and have recently come back to it to try setup SSL and get it serving several different tomcat servers. At the moment I have two completely separate tomcat instances serving up to slightly different versions (one for dev and one for demo say) my web app to two different ports; mydomain.com:8081 and mydomain.com:8082 I've successfully (back in Jan) used mod_jk to get httpd to serve those same tomcat instances to http://www.mydomain.com:8090/dev and http://www.mydomain.com:8090/demo (8090 cos I've got another app running on 8080 via Jetty at this stage) using the following code in httpd.conf; LoadModule jk_module modules/mod_jk.so JkWorkersFile conf/workers.properties JkLogFile logs/mod_jk.log JkLogLevel debug <VirtualHost *:8090> JkMount /devd* tomcatDev JkMount /demo* tomcatDemo </VirtualHost> What I'm not trying to do is enable SSL I've added the following to httpd.conf Listen 443 <VirtualHost _default_:443> JkMount /dev* tomcatDev JkMount /demo* tomcatDemo SSLEngine on SSLCertificateFile "/opt/httpd/conf/localhost.crt" SSLCertificateKeyFile "/opt/httpd/conf/keystore.key" </VirtualHost> But when I try to restart Apache with "apachectl restart" (yes after shutting down that other app I mentioned so it doesn't toy with https connections) I continuously get the error; "Invalid command 'SSLEngine', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration. httpd not running, trying to start" I've looked in the httpd/modules dir and indeed there is no mod_ssl, only mod_jk.so and httpd.exp. I've tried using yum to install mod_ssl, it says its already installed. Indeed I can locate mod_ssl.so in /usr/lib/httpd/modules but this is NOT the path to where I've installed httpd which is /opt/httpd and in fact /usr/lib/httpd contains nothing but the modules dir. Can anyone tell me how to install mod_ssl properly for my installed location of httpd so I can get past this error:

  I have mailserver configure using dovecot+postfix+mysql and it was runnig fine in the server(Ubuntu Server). But during last week it stopped working correctly. It doesn't send email. When I try to telnet localhost smtp I'm connecting successfully but when I do mail from:<[email protected]> and hit Enter it hangs on, nothing happen. Having reviewed /var/log/mail.log file I've found out that probably(99%) the problem is on postfix when it is trying to connect to MySQL server. • Read-only file system

  The title might not be as descriptive as I would like it to be but couldn't come up with a better one. My server's file system went into Read-only. And I don't understand why it does so and how to solve it. I can SSH into the server and when trying to start apache2 for example I get the following : username@srv1:~$ sudo service apache2 start [sudo] password for username: sudo: unable to open /var/lib/sudo/username/1: Read-only file system * Starting web server apache2 (30)Read-only file system: apache2: could not open error log file /var/log/apache2/error.log. Unable to open logs Action 'start' failed. The Apache error log may have more information. When I try restarting the server I get : username@srv1:~$ sudo shutdown -r now [sudo] password for username: sudo: unable to open /var/lib/sudo/username/1: Read-only file system Once I restart it manually it just start up without any warning or message saying something is wrong. I hope somebody could point me into the right direction to resolve this issue. Thanks in advance!

• Notify-osd notifications appear unthemed in top-left corner (ubuntu 13.10)

  Problem I recently upgraded from 13.04 to 13.10, and suddenly notification bubbles don't appear themed as usual in the upper right corner, but they appear as white text on blue background in the upper-left corner. It looks like this: Unsuccesful attempts to fix it I tried reinstalling unity, notify-osd, ubuntu-desktop removed notification-daemon which was installed, none of that fixes it. In fact running ps aux | grep notify-osd shows that notify-osd isn't even running. But when I try to start it manually by running /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/notify-osd I get: ** (notify-osd:4618): WARNING **: Another instance has already registered org.freedesktop.Notifications ** (notify-osd:4618): WARNING **: Could not register instance If I understand well, the instance is registered by the /usr/share/dbus-1/services/org.freedesktop.Notifications.service file, which right now contains: [D-BUS Service] Name=org.freedesktop.Notifications Exec=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/notify-osd Renaming or deleting that file (and rebooting) has no effect whatsoever (and it is not recreated automatically). This is not a duplicate of No notifications from notify-osd on 13.10 (and by the way I purged gnome-flashback-session along with notification-daemon) Question(s) How can I debug this? How can I get notifications to come back to normal? If additional debug information is needed, I'll be happy to add it (just that I can't find any more).

• Upgraded Linux, now CMS Made Simple is spewing errors

  I upgraded my host from Debian Lenny to Debian Squeeze, and now my CMS Made Simple site is spewing PHP errors all over the screen. I thought I'd upgrade the CMS because I haven't done so in a while, but Google Chrome tells me that the CMS Made Simple site is infested with malware. What are my options now? • unmet dependencies and broken count>0 problem

  I tried installing fbreader, following all the steps, but ended up with unmet dependencies, i also think a file is referenced in two locations at once and hence killing it.. any ideas how I can fix it? i've done alot of research and tried: simon@simon-Studio-1558:~$ sudo apt-get -f install Reading package lists... • ServerAlias override server name?

  I tried to setting up virtual host with apache2 on my ubuntu server. my serverName is not working, it show wrong document, but the server alias is showing right document. How is that happen?
