• Click event keeps firing

• Scalable / Parallel Large Graph Analysis Library?

  I am looking for good recommendations for scalable and/or parallel large graph analysis libraries in various languages. The problems I am working on involve significant computational analysis of graphs/networks with 1-100 million nodes and 10 million to 1+ billion edges. The largest SMP computer I am using has 256 GB memory, but I also have access to an HPC cluster with 1000 cores, 2 TB aggregate memory, and MPI for communication. I am primarily looking for scalable, high-performance graph libraries that could be used in either single or multi-threaded scenarios, but parallel analysis libraries based on MPI or a similar protocol for communication and/or distributed memory are also of interest for high-end problems. Target programming languages include C++, C, Java, and Python. My research to-date has come up with the following possible solutions for these languages: C++ -- The most viable solutions appear to be the Boost Graph Library and Parallel Boost Graph Library. I have looked briefly at MTGL, but it is currently slanted more toward massively multithreaded hardware architectures like the Cray XMT. C - igraph and SNAP (Small-world Network Analysis and Partitioning); latter uses OpenMP for parallelism on SMP systems. Java - I have found no parallel libraries here yet, but JGraphT and perhaps JUNG are leading contenders in the non-parallel space. Python - igraph and NetworkX look like the most solid options, though neither is parallel. There used to be Python bindings for BGL, but these are now unsupported; last release in 2005 looks stale now. Other topics here on SO that I've looked at have discussed graph libraries in C++, Java, Python, and other languages. However, none of these topics focused significantly on scalability. Does anyone have recommendations they can offer based on experience with any of the above or other library packages when applied to large graph analysis problems? Performance, scalability, and code stability/maturity are my primary concerns. Most of the specialized algorithms will be developed by my team with the exception of any graph-oriented parallel communication or distributed memory frameworks (where the graph state is distributed across a cluster).

• iPad + OpenGL ES2. Why the Puzzling Virtual Memory Spike During Device Reorientation?

  I've been spending the afternoon starring at Xcode Instruments memory monitor trying to decipher the following memory issue. I have a fullscreen OpenGL ES2 app running on iPad. I am fanatical about memory issues so my retains/releases are all nicely balanced. I closely monitor memory leaks. My app is basically squeeky clean. Except occassionally when I reorient the device. Portrait to Landscape. Back and forth I rock the device stress testing my discarding and rebuilding of the OpenGL framebuffer. The ambient memory footprint of my app is about 70MB Real Mems and 180MB Virtual Mems. Real memory hardly varies at all during device rotations. However the virtual mems reading sometimes briefly spikes up to 250MB and then recedes back to 180MB. No real pattern. But clearly related discarding/rebuilding the framebuffer. I see random memory warnings in my NSlogs but the app just hums along, no worries. 1) Since iPhone OS devices don't have VM could someone explain to me what the VM reading actually means? 2) My app totally leak free and generally bulletproof dispite the VM spikes. Never crashes. Rock solid. Should I be concerned about this? 3) There is clearly something happening in OpenGL framebuffer land that is causing this but I am using the API in the proper way: paraphrasing: Discarding the framebuffer: glDeleteRenderbuffers(1, &m_colorbuffer); glDeleteFramebuffers(1, &m_framebuffer); Rebuilding the framebuffer: glGenFramebuffers(1, &m_framebuffer); glGenRenderbuffers(1, &m_colorbuffer); Is there some other memory flushing trick I have missed?   I have a content and i want to search a keyword in that content. Content When charting multiple data series, or just to improve the appearance of your charts, you can control the fill for each series in the chart or each item in a series. The fill lets you specify a pattern that defines how Flex draws the chart element. You also use fills to specify the background colors of the chart or bands of background colors defined by the grid lines. Fills can be solid or can use linear and radial gradients. A gradient specifies a gradual color transition in the fill color therefore. NOw, if the keyword we are searching is "When", it is the starting word so should display as "When charting multiple data ..........." If the keyword is "draws" , it lies in middle so should be displayed as ".... how Flex draws....." If the kewyword is "therefore", it is in the last position so should be displayed as ".........transition in the fill color therefore." Can anyone help me out how to do this in php server script?

• TDD vs. Unit testing

  My company is fairly new to unit testing our code. I've been reading about TDD and unit testing for some time and am convinced of their value. I've attempted to convince our team that TDD is worth the effort of learning and changing our mindsets on how we program but it is a struggle. Which brings me to my question(s). There are many in the TDD community who are very religious about writing the test and then the code (and I'm with them), but for a team that is struggling with TDD does a compromise still bring added benefits? I can probably succeed in getting the team to write unit tests once the code is written (perhaps as a requirement for checking in code) and my assumption is that there is still value in writing those unit tests. What's the best way to bring a struggling team into TDD? And failing that is it still worth writing unit tests even if it is after the code is written? EDIT What I've taken away from this is that it is important for us to start unit testing, somewhere in the coding process. For those in the team who pickup the concept, start to move more towards TDD and testing first. Thanks for everyone's input. FOLLOW UP We recently started a new small project and a small portion of the team used TDD, the rest wrote unit tests after the code. After we wrapped up the coding portion of the project, those writing unit tests after the code were surprised to see the TDD coders already done and with more solid code. It was a good way to win over the skeptics. We still have a lot of growing pains ahead, but the battle of wills appears to be over. Thanks for everyone who offered advice!

• Using jQuery, setting Draggable on an element prevents blur from firing when you click the draggable

  Using jQuery, when you set a blur event on a text box and set another element as draggable, when you click the draggable element, the blur event does not fire in FireFox. IE is a little better, you get the blur event but you don't get the click event on the draggable element. • contentEditable cursor position/style in FireFox

  I'm having trouble using contentEditable in FireFox 3. I have a problem where the cursor will appear above or only partially in the div after I click in it (until I start typing at which time it behaves correctly). Any ideas on how I can stop this from happening? • Low Latency Serial Communications In .Net

  I have been researching various third party libraries and approaches to low latency serial communications in .Net. I've read enough that I have now come full circle and know as little as I did when I started due to the variety of conflicting opinions. For example, the functionality in the Framework was ruled out due to some convincing articles stating: "that the Microsoft provided solution has not been stable across framework versions and is lacking in functionality." I have found articles bashing many of the older COM based libraries. I have found articles bashing the idea of a low latency .Net app as a whole due to garbage collection. I have also read articles demonstrating how P/Invoking Windows API functionality for the purpose of low latency communication is unacceptable. THIS RULES OUT JUST ABOUT ANY APPROACH I CAN THINK OF! I would really appreciate some words from those with been there / done that experience. Ideally, I could locate a solid library / partner and not have to build the communications library myself. I have the following simple objectives: Sustained low latency serial communication in C# / VB.Net 32/64 bit Well documented (if the solution is 3rd party) Relatively unimpacted (communication and latency wise) by garbage collection . Flexible (I have no idea what I will have to interface with in the future!) The only requirement that I have for certain is that I need to be able to interface with many different industrial devices such as RS485 based linear actuators, serial / microcontroller based gauges, and ModBus (also RS485) devices. Any comments, ideas, thoughts or links to articles that may iron out my confusion are much appreciated!

• Deriving an HTMLElement Object from jQuery Object

  I'm doing a fairly exhaustive series of DOM manipulations where a few elements (specifically form elements) have some events. I am dynamically creating (actually cloning from a source element) several boxes and assigning a change() event to them. The change event executes, and within the context of the event, "this" is the HTML Element Object. What I need to do at this point however is determine a contact for this HTML Element Object. I have these objects stored already as jQuery entities in assorted arrays, but obviously [HTMLElement Object] != [Object Object] And the trick is that I cannot cast $(this) and make a valid comparison since that would create a new object and the pointer would be different. So... I've been banging my head against this for a while. In the past I've been able to circumvent this problem by doing an innerHTML comparison, but in this case the objects I am comparing are 100% identical, just there's lots of them. Therefore I need a solid comparison. This would be easy if I could somehow derive the HTMLElement object from my originating jQuery object. Thoughts, other ideas? Help. :(

• setAttribute, onClick and cross browser compatability...

  I have read a number of posts about this but none with any solid answer. So in other words it seems to just default to whichever gets set last. The .onclick method (with the ie comment) does not work in either case, am I using it incorrectly? Either way I can't find a way to make this work at all in IE, let alone in both. I did change the function call when using the .onclick method and it worked fine using just a simple call to an alert function which is why I believe my syntax is incorrect. Long story short, I can't get the onclick parameter to work consistently between IE/Mozilla. -- Nicholas

Google has failed all my attempts to find a script I can adapt. I want to use the 100% of the height, as I can do with the width, but I simply don`t get it work :S At his moment I'm using min-height, but how could I use the height:100% ? What I like is that the footer is always visible, and you scroll the content. • Experiences with (free) embedded TCP / IP stacks?

  Does anyone have especially good (or bad) experiences with any of the following embedded TCP / IP stacks? uIP lwIP Bentham's TCP/IP Lean implementation The TCP/IP stack from this book My needs are for a solid, easy-to-port stack. Code size isn't terribly important, performance is relatively important, but ease of use & porting is very important. The system will probably use an RTOS, that hasn't been decided, but in my experience most stacks can be used with or without an RTOS. Most likely the platform will be an ARM variant (ARM7 or CM3 in all likelihood). Not too concerned about bolting the stack to the Ethernet driver, so that isn't a big priority in the selection. I'm not terribly interested in extracting a stack out of an OS, such as Linux, RTEMS, etc. I'm also not interested in commercial offerings such as Interniche, Micrium, etc... The stack doesn't need all sorts of bells & whistles, doesn't need IPv6, and I don't need any stuff on top of it (web servers, FTP servers, etc..) In fact it's possible that I'll only use UDP, although I can envision a couple scenarios where TCP would be preferable. Experiences with other stacks I've missed are of course also very much of interest. Thanks for your time & input.

This is working great however when i try to do things with the first x number of items it is doing it on the x number of items in each group rather than across the whole set of results. • Table is centering by itself?

When the right column's content is longer than then the main content, the main content centers rather than start at the top despite I defining it in a style not to do so. • Browser history back with scrollable div

  When I Jump to section 1 & 2 everything works fine, and the browsers I tested (IE8, FF3.6, Chrome 5.0.342.3) scrolls down to the respective anchor in the div. But when I press the browser history back button the div won't scroll back up. • Tricky file parsing. Inconsistent Delimeters

  I need to parse a file with the following format. 0000000 ...ISBN.. ..Author.. ..Title.. ..Edit.. ..Year.. ..Pub.. ..Comments.. NrtlExt Nrtl Next Navg NQoH UrtlExt Urtl Uext Uavg UQoH ABS NEB MBS FOL ABE0001 0-679-73378-7 ABE WOMAN IN THE DUNES (INT'L ED) 1st 64 RANDOM 0.00 13.90 0.00 10.43 0 21.00 10.50 6.44 3.22 2 2.00 0.50 2.00 2.00 ABS The ID and ISBN are not a problem, the title is. There is no set length for these fields, and there are no solid delimiters- the space can be used for most of the file. Another issue is that there is not always an entry in the comments field. When there is, there are spaced within the content. So I can get the first two, and the last fourteen. I need some help figuring out how to parse the middle six fields. This file was generated by an older program that I cannot change. I am using php to parse this file.

• Frameset isn't working in IE

  First of all, why use a frame set in the first place you ask? answer: Because my boss told me. That been said, I have 2 files. Index.html and Head.html. Is there anything I am doing wrong, and if not then can the same effect be achieved without frames and if so how?

• IE 6 bug? width: 987

  I'm having a very weird issue in IE6. If I set a div container do the width of 987px it adds a spacing between the container and an absolute positioned element inside. Any other width works fine, it's just 987. Is there something I'm not seeing? • CSS / jQuery Vertically and Horizontally Center DIV

  I'm trying to vertically and horizontally center this div even when there is content to scroll and the user is scrolling down the page. The following test works fine in IE, but in Firefox I get a weird flickering affect when hovering over the thumbnail image.
