• Recursively move files in sub-dirs to new sub-dirs of same name

  I have a batch of files all ending with the same string, ie: *_ext.dat located in several sub-dirs along with several other files, in a given main dir. This is the structure: /main_dir/subdir1/file11_ext.dat /main_dir/subdir1/file12_ext.dat /main_dir/subdir1/file13_ext.dat /main_dir/subdir1/file14_other.dat /main_dir/subdir1/file15_other.dat /main_dir/subdir2/file21_ext.dat /main_dir/subdir2/file22_ext.dat /main_dir/subdir2/file23_ext.dat /main_dir/subdir2/file24_other.dat /main_dir/subdir2/file25_other.dat /main_dir/subdir3/file31_ext.dat /main_dir/subdir3/file32_ext.dat /main_dir/subdir3/file33_ext.dat /main_dir/subdir3/file34_other.dat /main_dir/subdir3/file35_other.dat I need to recursively move only the files ending in *_ext.dat into a new main dir, new_dir, respecting the sub-dir structure so the files will end up in an equivalent dir structure like this: /new_dir/subdir1/file11_ext.dat /new_dir/subdir1/file12_ext.dat /new_dir/subdir1/file13_ext.dat /new_dir/subdir2/file21_ext.dat /new_dir/subdir2/file22_ext.dat /new_dir/subdir2/file23_ext.dat /new_dir/subdir3/file31_ext.dat /new_dir/subdir3/file32_ext.dat /new_dir/subdir3/file33_ext.dat Because of this the command should also create those sub-dirs with their corresponding names. I know that with a line like this one: find . -name "*_ext.dat" -print0 | xargs -0 rm -rf I can delete all those files, but I don't know how to modify it to do what I need (or if it is even possible).

• IMAP/POP won't send allow emails to outside- New Dell PowerEdge T310 running SBS 2011

  I have a brand new out of the box Dell PowerEdge T310 running SBS 2011. Our employees at our remote offices can't send emails to recipients outside of our own domain. The workstations at the same location as the server aren't having any problem. I would at this time like to say "Thanks a lot" to the super-minds at Microsoft for protecting our email server from rogue computers attempting to send fake emails. (Silly me I thought proper login and password conventions would handle that.) I know this is something dealing with relaying but thus far nothing from any posts I've read have changed anything. Honestly, if someone is crafty enough to guess one of our login/password combos, let them send emails through our server I don't care!

• new SBS 2011 Standard problems

  Brand new SBS 2011 install. I went to remove the DHCP server role. It went into a "Preparing to configure Windows. Do not turn off your computer." Been there for hours. Finally, decided to power off and restart. After boot up, the same window and message appear and it just sits there spinning. "Preparing to configure Windows. Do not turn off your computer." I'd love to get this installed before the end of the day but it doesn't look like that's possible. Any ideas on how to get passed this?

• Virtualmin deactivating PHP on new virtual servers

  This is related to my other question... but the situation is much worse now. After updating to the most recent version of Virtualmin, when I create new accounts, Virtualmin sets up their VirtualHost entries as follows: <Directory /home/username/public_html> Options -Indexes +IncludesNOEXEC +FollowSymLinks +ExecCGI allow from all AllowOverride All AddHandler fcgid-script .php FCGIWrapper /home/username/fcgi-bin/php.fcgi .php </Directory> <Directory /home/username/cgi-bin> allow from all </Directory> [...] RemoveHandler .php Now, not only is it specifically inserting AddHandler fcgid-script and FCGIWrapper... which I do not want because I am using mod_fastcgi, but it's also setting up PHP in such a way that it will never work! It's adding a RemoveHandler .php after setting up the handler for PHP! Where is this behavior configured and how can I stop it? Better yet, how can I make Virtualmin not include any PHP commands at all in the VirtualHost section?

• Apple Automator "New PDF from Images" maintaining same filename

  I will potentially have 26k of old legacy PICT images to transfer first to PDF for migration. I am using Apple Automator and also the "Dispense Items Incrementally" to loop through it. However, I can't seem to let "New PDF from Images" to remember the original filename. Anyone able to offer some advice :) FYI, I am transforming it to PDF because I can't do it using ImageMagick to convert directly to my ultimate JPEG format. Due to the fact that my PICT was created very long ago and thus has some convert: improper image header error. See this ticket for more information. Thus I am doing a intermediate convert PICT to PDF first, then convert that PDF to JPEG :) The only thing left is the naming of the "Output File Name" which do not allow me to identify original filename. • Modern monitor technologies - need to find a new monitor

  I'm preparing to change my old LCD monitor for a new one. I have an old NEC 20WGX2 Pro based on an IPS panel. I'm looking for a screen that gives good color output but is very good at gaming at the same time (since it is its primary service). I tend to switch monitors between my different computers at home so it has to be multi purpose, hence IPS technology before. Now, where can I read on newest monitor technologies so I can make an informed decision? I need to find a best fit for myself and I have a very outdated knowledge at the moment. So any hints are greatly appreciated, be it info on technologies, web sources, links to other questions, etc.

• cannot access new drive through nfs

  I am running nfs-kernel-server to access my files on my linux machine(ubuntu - /share). The disk I have been using is full. So I have added a new disk and mounted it to /share/data. My other pc mounts the /share folder to /mnt/nfs; but cannot see the contents of /mnt/nfs/data. I have tried adding /share/data to /etc/exports, but it did not help. What do I do? PS: I am looking for another solution than explicitly mounting /share/data on the second drive.

  We've started to see instances on our Intranet server where for any page the server just responds with the error page 'HTTP/1.1 New Session Failed'. It seems we can fix it by running IISRESET but this feels like we're only treating the symptom. The server is a virtualised server running IIS6 on Windows Server 2003 with 0.5Gb of RAM. Our Intranet is written in ASP, but we also have ASP.NET 2.0 applications running on the web site. The site is set up for Anonymous and Integrated Authentication. What causes IIS to get into this error state? Could the server be saturated with requests i.e. we need to scale out and move some applications onto another server? I've seen KB210842 but I'm not sure it applies as that is applicable to IIS 4

  Hello. I updated my Ubuntu, and after that there were two new lines on my GRUB screen. Ubuntu 9.04, kernel 2.6.28-16-generic Ubuntu 9.04, kernel 2.6.28-16-generic (recovery mode) Ubuntu 9.04, kernel 2.6.28-11-generic Ubuntu 9.04, kernel 2.6.28-11-generic (recovey mode) Ubuntu 9.04, memtest86+ Other operating systems: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Do I have two kernels installed? Do the old entries are still useful? Each kernel takes up space? :P And that's not all, when a get into the old version of Ubuntu, the wireless card stops working on any Ubuntu version until I get into Windows and then go back to Ubuntu. • Installing a new SQL Server instance fails

  I've previously in my setup installed SQL Server Express 2005. Now I've switched to SQL Server Express 2008. I updated the command line parameters to those documented for the latter. If the comp already has SQL Server Express 2008 installed, my installer should create a new instance. The command line parameters are as follows: /ACTION=Install /FEATURES=SQLEngine /QS /INSTANCENAME=ABCD /SECURITYMODE=SQL /SAPWD=CunningPassword The requested instance name does not exist on the target machine. This will end in an error -2068643838. The logs show the following error: "No features were installed during the setup execution. The requested features may already be installed." If I remove the /QS parameter and try to install interactively, I'll get as far as the Feature Selection page. The UI shows three options, Instance Features, Shared Features and Redistributable Features. Whatever I select, clicking Next results in the same error (There are validation errors on this page). Any ideas anyone?

  Hi everyone, My companies currently hardware firewall (an old ZyXEL ZyWALL firewall) and is indeed requiring an update to a new firewall. It is a small company with a similar small server-environment, so the need for a huge, complex and expensive solution isn’t there but a more “straight-forward” firewall, that can provide the necessary security to our systems and block unwanted elements from the core server and only accept access through our one server which is used as an “gateway” between the Internet and our internal network. I haven’t that much experience with hardware firewalls so I’m requesting any good advice and/or knowledge on which products will be suited for our specific need. • Not able to login to new AMI on EC2 - moveing from micro to small instance

  I had a t1.micro instance (old_server) on Linux on EC2 and now I need to upgrade my server to m1.small Linux (new_server). So, here is what I did: Shutdown old_server and create an AMI. Launch the new AMI with m1.small configuration. (I kept the key and security group same as old_server) I tried to login by: ssh -i my_key.pem [email protected] But, it gives a connection timeout error. My login to old_server works fine. So, my question is: What is the correct way to scale up (vertically) an EC2 instance? Where am I going wrong in the above mentioned step? When I create an AMI in step 1, is the EBS (data) also copied.

• Parity Initialization after putting in two new disks

  All my firmware is up to date on the server and the controllers. Storage crashed over the weekend. I rebooted it and it detected that I put in two new disks last week (I did check that both disk completed the rebuilding process last week). After it booted into the OS I see that it gave me an information message. After 18 hours it is at 54% so it is looking healthy. But I need to replace 5 more disk in the msa. Should I wait for this message to finish before replacing more disks? 785 Background parity initialization is currently queued or in progress on Logical Drive 1 (15.0 TB, RAID 5). If background parity initialization is queued, it will start when I/O is performed on the drive. When background parity initialization completes, the performance of the logical drive will improve.

  I am currently looking for a new hosting company for my business. We are a design and development company and have been recommending WestHost to our clients for the last several years. However due to some changes they have implemented in the last year, we have decided to start referring people elsewhere. Most of our clients need affordable Linux hosting with the basics. SSH is also a definite must and 24/7 support (preferably phone, as well as email/ticket system) that won't cost extra. An easy to use and understand control panel would be nice as well. I have heard good things about HostGator, and am wondering if anyone has experience with them. The prices seem right and they have everything we need. We are also thinking of purchasing a dedicated server with them for a specific project that's going to require one. I don't know if I am asking this in the right place, if this is not welcome here please let me know.

Now, when I try to use that laptop to talk on Yahoo! Messenger, the sound quality is very bad, and I barely hear what the other person is saying. Before I was reinstalling the XP the laptop were working fine. do you have any tips for me? • SharePoint 2010 deployment problem after added a new server to existing farm

  I have SharePoint 2010 farm with one server. I'm developing some features in a sharepoint farm solution (not sandbox because there are some user rights problem). All feature scopes are set to "Site". I can deploy the solution to SharePoint with no problem. I added a new web front-end server to my existing farm. Then when I try deploy my solution, VS2010 shows this error: Error occurred in deployment step 'Activate Features': Feature with Id 'xxx' is not installed in this farm, and cannot be added to this scope I login with AD administrator account to development server. Administrator account is in site collection admins on the target web application. The farm account is in local administrators group. Is there a solution for this error?

  Hi, I have a new laptop which comes with window 7. I want to dual-boot it with ubuntu 9.10. I have burned the install disk of 9.10. But during the install process, I am stuck in 'setup my partition'. It has 2 options: wipe out my whole hard disk' or 'manually configure' I don't want it to wipe out my whole hard disk (i want to keep my window 7). But how can I manually configure the partition to use the free space and create a partition so that I can install ubuntu 9.10 and swap space? Thank you.

• "Fuzzy" Display Problems on New OpenSUSE 11.3 Install

  Hi, I have a old Desktop that has a new installation of OpenSUSE 11.3 on it. To get straight to the point, whenever I try to start-up OpenSUSE, my display goes "fuzzy" (almost like a badly tuned TV) and sometimes (not always) my monitor goes black and says "Out of Range: 15.6kHz/49Hz": I assumed that this was a driver problem, so I download the drivers from nvidia and ran the shell script, completed and rebooted. Then OpenSUSE failed to boot with something like "nscd failed to start". At that point I decided to re-install and I did, but this time I tried un-checking "Automatic Configuration" to see if that helped. Got through the install and still have a problem. Unfortunately, my Linux troubleshooting skills are non-existent, so has anyone got any ideas on what could be the problem (is it the display driver?) and how I can fix the problem?

  I ran into some problems with my ATI Radeon x1200. I want it to support vertex shader 3.0, but it only does 2.0. This is because Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 only works with 3.0. So, I want a new video card. Can someone help me, with a more clean look to it? I bet if I would stick to some seller, I would end up with a video card that does not support what I want, or is too expansive. I really do not want it to be above $75, if possible.   It's a new build, but it's always had noisy fans. From start to end, they will not stop running. The case is a cooler master which I believe comes with a fan that is not controlled by BIOS (according to technician), so that may be the source of the problem..but my lack of knowledge on the matter prevents me from making a reasonable assessment. • Add Bookmark to IE automatically for new users on a computer

  When I set up a PC, I would like to be able to have it so when anyone logs into that PC from the domain a couple of IT bookmarks will be in IE. I read I can do this with a Domain-Level group policy, but unfortunately, with my current domain group policies have not gone well, so I have fear (Rather not get into this in this question). Can I do this at the PC level when I deploy a new computer? So any domain users who log into the PC will have these bookmarks added when their profile is created (no roaming profiles). These are XP machines, and the domain is run by 2003 controllers.

  Hello, To the point. I have Ubuntu Maverick running on my Lenovo G450. Before, it was Windows 7. All my data are inside another partition, its NTFS. FSTAB line to mount that partition : /dev/sda5 /data ntfs auto,users,uid=1000,gid=1000,utf8,dmask=027,fmask=137 0 0 Inside /data there are folder Musics, Graphics, Tools, Cores, etc. If I'm about to create new folder, let see, GFX on /home/apronouva/GFX and make it link or pointing to /data/Graphics, how do I do that ? So when I open /home/apronouva/GFX the content will be the same as inside /data/Graphics .. and whatever changes I made inside GFX, it will also affect /data/Graphics I tried : $ ln -s /data/Graphics /home/apronouva/GFX it resulted : error, cannot make symbolic link between folder Thanks in advance, Fath
