  Trying to setup ASA5505. Semi working but having issues with accessing services from the outside. ASA5505 Basic License, Version 8.2. (plus upgrade to unlimited inside hosts). Mail started flowing (Domain POP was successful) etc. etc. But I forgot to check if webmail worked from the outside admittedly. But the webservers at 172.21.37.17 and 172.21.37.24 still didn't respond from the outside world. Although I was able to PPTP VPN in on 321.321.39.10 (interface) which is the outside interface IP address. and it is static mapped to 172.21.37.20. So I'm thinking there must be something wrong with NAT somewhere? no response from 321.321.39.11 to 321.321.39.14.. Could anyone look over the config and please let me know what I've done wrong? Is there something I've missed? well obviously but.. please help! Thank you.

• How can I Setup overloaded method invocations in Moq?

  I'm trying to mock a mapping interface IMapper: public interface IMapper<TFoo, TBar> { TBar Map(TFoo foo); TFoo Map(TBar bar); } In my test, I'm setting the mock mapper up to expect an invocation of each (around an NHibernate update operation): //... _mapperMock.Setup(m => m.Map(fooMock.Object)).Returns(barMock.Object); _mapperMock.Setup(m => m.Map(barMock.Object)).Returns(fooMock.Object); //... However, when the second Map invocation is made, the mapper mock throws because it is only expecting a single invocation. Watching the mapper mock during setup at runtime, I can look see the Map(TFoo foo) overload get registered, and then see it get replaced when the Map(TBar bar) overload is set up. Is this a problem with the way Moq handles setup, or is there a different syntax I need to use in this case?

• MSBuild target _CopyWebApplication does not copy all necessary files to the bin folder

  Elsewhere on the Web, you can find recommendations on using something like this to simulate the Publish feature in the VS 2005-2008 IDE from a command-line (I hope I did not goof up the syntax!): msbuild /t:ResolveReferences;_CopyWebApplication /p:BuildingProject=true;OutDir=C:\inetpub\wwwroot\ blah.csproj Now, it looks like the .dll's copy fine. However, there are certain configuration files and template files that are copied to the bin folder which are needed for the app to work. For example, an NHibernate configuration file shows up in blah.csproj as: <None Include="blah.cfg.xml"> <CopyToOutputDirectory>PreserveNewest</CopyToOutputDirectory> </None> While using Publish from within the IDE copies this file as it should, the aforementioned _CopyWebApplication target does not. I need this file to be copied in the build script. Is this desired behavior for _CopyWebApplication? Any recommendations on how to fix this?

• MVC Dropdown List isn't binding to the model.

  Hi, I am trying set up a simple dropdown list but I dont seem to be able to get it to bind to the Model. I am using Asp.Net MVC and nhibernate. My dropdown list is declared like so: <%= Html.DropDownListFor(model => model.Project, (IEnumerable<SelectListItem>)ViewData["Projects"], " -- Select -- ", new { name = "Project" })%> I set up the select list like so: ViewData["Projects"] = new SelectList(projectRepository.GetAll(), "EntityGUID", "Name", editEntity.Project); This seems to bind the select list to the Dropdown fine, but the SelectedValue is not set. it shows up as the default --- Select --- Also when I save this data, the dropdown does not bind to the model, I have to manually set the object like so to save it: entity.Project = projectRepository.GetById(new Guid(Request["Project"].ToString())); I believe I have take the correct messures to have this item bind directly to my model. • Automapper use in a MVVM application

  I am building a MVVM application. The model / entity (I am using NHibernate) is already done, and I am thinking of using AutoMapper to map between the ViewModel and Model. However this clause scares the jebus out of me: (from http://www.lostechies.com/blogs/jimmy_bogard/archive/2009/01/22/automapper-the-object-object-mapper.aspx) Blockquote AutoMapper enforces that for each type map (source/destination pair), all of the properties on the destination type are matched up with something on the source type To me, the logical choice is to map from model to viewmodel, (and I'll let viewmodel manually assign to model), but the quote basically kills the idea since the viewmodel will definitely have properties that don't exist on the model. How have you been using Automapper in a MVVM app? Please help!

• Problem during RIA authentication

  Hi I've built an authentication service in RIA that inherits from DomainService and IAuthenticate. The problem is following: When LoginOperation fails (loginOperation.LoginSuccess is false) due to wrong credentials, everything is ok and it is reported to the user. However, when login succeeds, I get throw a really weird exception: {System.ServiceModel.DomainServices.Client.DomainOperationException: Load operation failed for query 'Login'. Value cannot be null. Parameter name: validationErrors --- System.ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null. Parameter name: validationErrors at System.ServiceModel.DomainServices.Client.QueryCompletedResult..ctor(IEnumerable1 entities, IEnumerable1 includedEntities, Int32 totalCount, IEnumerable`1 validationErrors) I don't really understand this. What is IEnumerable validationErrors, where does it appear and why does it have to be != null ? This started happening after I ported my authentication services from Nhibernate to Entity Framework. I've even tried googling this exception and apparently I'm the only one with this problem so far. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Which ORM to use with SQL Azure?

  Just wondering what everyones thoughts on what ORM to use for SQL Azure? I'm fairly comfortable using LINQ-to-SQL and I believe it is possible to get it working with SQL Azure. However, from my understanding (correct me if I'm wrong), no further improvements will be made to Linq-to-SQL in future releases of the .NET framework? Alternatively, there is the entity framework... and further afield from the Microsoft Camp is NHibernate. Ideally, any additional suggestions made should be free or open source. I have seen Telerik's ORM but this of course, is a commercial product. I can get the definitions/benefits of each ORM myself by doing a Google search, but I was just interested in peoples opinions as to which ORM seems to work best for them (even if it is none of the above).

  All, I have a series of domain objects (project is NHibernate based). Currently as per 'good practice' they define only the business objects, comprising properties and methods specific to each objects function within the domain. However one of the objects has a requirement to send an SMTP message. I have a simple SMTP client class defined in a separate 'Utilities' assembly. In order to use this mail client from within the POCO, I would need to hold a reference to the utilities assembly in the domain. My query is this... Is it a departure from best practice to hold such a reference in a POCO, for the purpose of gaining necessary business functionality. Kind Regards Paul J.

  i've picked a query out of SQL Server Profiler that says it took 1,497 reads: EventClass: SQL:BatchCompleted TextData: SELECT Transactions.... CPU: 406 Reads: 1497 Writes: 0 Duration: 406 So i've taken this query into Query Analyzer, so i may try to reduce the number of reads. But when i turn on SET STATISTICS IO ON to see the IO activity for the query, i get nowhere close to one thousand reads: Table Scan Count Logical Reads =================== ========== ============= FintracTransactions 4 20 LCDs 2 4 LCTs 2 4 FintracTransacti... 0 0 Users 1 2 MALs 0 0 Patrons 0 0 Shifts 1 2 Cages 1 1 Windows 1 3 Logins 1 3 Sessions 1 6 Transactions 1 7 Which if i do my math right, there is a total of 51 reads; not 1,497. • Update {node_counter} table programatically in drupal

  I currently use the statistics module (core) on my Drupal 6 install. This increments a count in the {node_counter} table every time the node is viewed, and this works. My question is - can I programmatically increment this counter as well? I am looking to achieve this when users interact with content created from views (say click a lightbox), so being able to update the table with AJAX would be ideal. I have done a quick search on d.o and there doesn't appear to be any modules that stick out straight away. Does anyone have any experience with this?

• Problem with auto page break in iReport

  Hi... I'm using iReport 3.7. I have a report with two subreports (order details and some selling statistics), and a grouping by seller. One subreport is located in the Detail band of the group, and the other one is in the group footer. What's really odd is that no matter how long the report is, when I export it to PDF it's always one page long. Is there something I'm missing? Thanks in advance.

• ASP.NET MVC2 Data Access Layer

  For a small/medium sized project I'm trying to figure out what is the 'ideal' way to have a domain layer and data access layer. My opinions on coupling tend to be more towards the view that the domain models should not be tightly coupled with the database layer, in other words the data access layer shouldn't actually know anything about the domain objects. I've been looking at Linq-to-sql and it wants to use its own models that it creates, and so it ends up VERY tightly coupled. Whilst I love the way you use linq-to-sql in code I really don't like the way it wants to make its own domain objects. What are some alternatives that I should consider? I tried use NHibernate but I did not like the way I had to use to query and get different objects. I honestly love the syntax and way you use linq, I just don't want it to be so tightly coupled to domain objects.

  I am doing profiling of my Java application and found some interesting statistics for a jdbc PreparedStatement call: Given below is the environment details: Database: Sybase SQL Anywhere 10.0.1 Driver: com.sybase.jdbc3.jdbc.SybDriver connection pool: c3p0 JRE: 1.6.0_05 The code in question is given below: try { ps = conn.prepareStatement(sql); ps.setDouble(...); rs = ps.executeQuery(); ...... return xyz; } finally { try { if (rs != null) rs.close(); if (ps != null) ps.close(); } catch (SQLException sqlEx) { } } From JProfiler stats, I find that this particular resultspace.close() statement alone takes a large amount of time. It varies from 25 ms to 320s while for other code blocks which are of identical in nature, i find that this takes close to 20 microseconds. Just to be sure, I ran this performance test multiple times and confirmed this data. I am puzzled by this behaviour - Thoughts?

  My Team are evaluation to a bigger Business portal. (Invoicing, Bookkeeping, Salaries.....) We are all used to work with DDD, O/R mappers with NHibernate as our first choice. We have chosen to work with CompositeWPF to keep modularity between all modules and part system in the business portal. Now we have evaluated Ria Services and are kind of disappointed how it works in a Data Oriented way, Data Oriented can be good in a service oriented scenario, but we feel that we can with an Object Oriented approach to, and we feel that we can get an application with less complexity with the OO approach than the DO approach. For example it doesn't allow Value Objects, Many-to-many relations, everything needs to have keys and so on. We haven't looked at WCF Data Services yet so our question is WCF Data Services our answere? Does it integrate good with Silverlight 4? Can we work with it in a OO manor?

• Entity Framework Vote of No Confidence - relevant in .NET 4?

  Hi, I'm deciding on an ORM for a big project and was determined to go for ADO.NET Entity Framework, specifically its new version that ships with .NET 4. During my search for information on EF I stumbled upon ADO .NET Entity Framework Vote of No Confidence which I'm not sure how to take. The Vote of No Confidence was written sometime in 2008 to convince Microsoft to listen to specific criticism for EF v1. It's not clear whether the claims made in the Vote of No Confidence are still valid (in .NET 4) and if they're serious enough to use other solutions. NHibernate is a mature alternative, but I don't know what problems it brings. I'm generally more inclined towards a Ms solution, mainly because I can count on integration with VS and on their developer support. I would appreciate examples of how the problems mentioned in the Vote of No Confidence affect in real world projects. More importantly, are the claims made there still relevant in EF for .NET 4?   There is a strong tendency of making web apps and even seems that very soon a lot of features will be available online so that for every day use people will have all necessary software free online and they will not need to install any software locally. Only specific (professional) tools that usually people don’t use at home will not be available as a web app. So my question, how do you imagine selling software that was necessary for everyday use and was not free (seems they can't make money any more by selling their product – no need of those products). And what disadvantages have web apps, that is to say, what is bad to use software online compared with having the same software locally (please list)? Please do not consider this question not connected with programming, as I would like to have a little statistics from professional programmers who are aware from nowday’s tendency of software and programming. • WPF Application Hang

  Hi, I'm using Windows 7 Professional (x64) and having installed .NET 4.0 RTM on my machine. Since 2 days I'm noticing that every WPF application that I'm trying to run hangs and becomes non responsive (a not responding text is appended to it's title bar) and it's painted white. There is no info regarding any exception, no error message. Nothing. Even the Event Log shows that there was "application hang" event (code 1002) and nothing more. This problem is for everything that is written in WPF, even for products like NHibernate Profiler and other stuff that I was using on a regular basis without any issues. Tried to reinstall .NET 4.0 and nothing changed. Any ideas why this might be happening?

• Cross-platform (microcontroller-PC) algorithm development

  Hello people! I was asked to develop a algorithm for network application on C. This project will be developed on Linux for PC and then it will be transferred to a more portable platform, something that will include a microcontroller. There are many microcontroller/companies out there that provide very nice and large libraries for TCP/IP. This software will hold statistics on the network performance. The whole idea of a cross platform (uC - PC) seems rubbish to me cause eventually the code should be written in a more platform specific way for the microcontroller, but I am not expert to judge anyway. Is there any clever way of doing this or is there a anyone that did this before? My brainstorming has "Wrapper library" and "Matlab"... Any ideas? Thx!
