  • Add Notes to Zoho Notebook in Firefox

    As you browse the web during the day, you probably find items that catch your interest and would like to save. The Zoho Notebook Helper extension for Firefox provides an easy way to add those items to your Zoho account. Using Zoho Notebook Helper Using the extension is easy and straightforward. Highlight the text, images, and links that you want to save, right click and select Add to Zoho Notebook. Note: It is recommended that you leave your status bar visible while using the extension. You can choose to add the selection to a new or pre-existing notebook or page. We created a new page for our example. Once your selection has been added to your account, you can see how nicely the formatting is retained. Notice the link at the top of the note…clicking on it will open the original webpage in a new tab if clicked on. The notebook mini pane can also pop out into a separate window if needed. You can resize the new external window as desired and send it back to your browser when ready. You can see an even better view of how well the formatting with regard to images, etc. is retained here. A quick look inside our notebook account and the notes that were just added. A second example added to our notebook account using a newly created page. As you build up the number of notebooks and pages, you can easily navigate between them using the drop-down menu in the mini pane’s upper right corner. Two new sets of notes each with their own page displaying nicely in our online account. The ease of use makes this a must-have extension for Zoho fans. Keep in mind that the extension will be temporarily disabled if you have your online account open in a tab. Conclusion Zoho Office doesn’t get much love compared to other online office solutions like Google Docs, or the new Microsoft Web Apps. However, if you are a Zoho user, the Zoho Notebook Helper extension makes it very easy to add those notes, links, and images to your online account for later reference.   • Keep Track of Your Tasks with toDoo

    A tasks list can be convenient but most times you can not include details for those tasks or have to have an online account to do so. If you want to keep your tasks list with you on your computer or laptop and be able to add plenty of details then you might want to look at toDoo. Note: Requires Adobe AIR (download link at bottom of article). toDoo in Action Once you have installed toDoo everything is rather straightforward for getting started. The first time that you start toDoo there will be a temporary “fill-in” for the “Subject & Details Areas”. Simply highlight over the temporary text and add your information. Notice that if desired you can easily set a custom date and time for your tasks right below the “Details Area”. Note: toDoo does not minimize to the “System Tray”. Once you have everything set all that you need to do is click on “add task”. Here was our first new task being viewed in the “toDoo Description Tab”. Time to add a second task…here you can see the drop-down calendar. You can scroll through and select a different month very easily…just click on the desired day and it will be automatically set. Adding our second task… If you need to edit any of the details for a particular task you can do so in the “Edit toDoo Tab”. This nice little app is convenient and easy to use. Conclusion ToDoo is a simple straightforward app that lets you keep track of your tasks list and relevant details without an online account (especially helpful if you are without a wireless connection at a given moment).   • MS Office 2013 and Asian languages

    I've got a Win7 computer with Office 2013 installed. System language is German. When switching input language to Thai I can type in the system dialog boxes (like start buttno app finder), but can't type in MS Word (pressing the keys on the keyboard does nothing on the screen, the cursor doesn't move). The weirdest thing here is: if I use numeric keypad and type any number after that the keyboard starts working in Word for a few characters. Japanese and Nepal input languages work fine. Does anyone know any way to troubleshoot? Thank you!

  • Poor home office network performance and cannot figure out where the issue is

    This is the most bizarre issue. I have worked with small to mid size networks for quite a long time and can say I'm comfortable connecting hardware. Where you will start to lose me is with managed switches and firewalls. The Issue The breakdown here is at item 5. No matter what I do I cannot have a switch at 5 and have to run everything wireless regardless of router. Issues related to using a switch (point 5 above) SpeedTest is good. Poor throughput to other devices if can communicate at all. Usually cannot ping other devices even on the same switch although, when able, ping times are good. Eventual lose of connectivity and can "sometimes" be restored by unplugging everything for several days, not minutes or hours but we're talking a week if at all. Directly connect to computer gives good internet connection however throughput to other devices connected to firewall is at best horrible. Yet printing doesn't seem to be an issue as long as they are connected via wireless. I have to force the RV220W to 1000Mb on the respective port if using a Gig Switch Issues related to using wireless in place of a switch (point 5 above) Poor throughput to other devices if can communicate. SpeedTest is good. Bottom line Internet speeds are awesome. By the way, Comcast went WAY above and beyond to make sure it was not them. They rewired EVERYTHING which did solve internet drops. Computer to computer connections are garbage Cannot get switch at 5 to work, yet other at 4 has never had an issue. Direct connection, bypass switch, is good for DHCP and internet. DNS must be on server, not firewall. Cisco insists its my switches but as you can see I have used four and two different cables with the same result. My gut feeling is something is happening with routing. But I'm not smart enough to know that answer. I run a lot of VM's at 5-c-3, could that cause it? What's different compared to my previous house is I have introduced Gigabit hardware (firewall/switches/computers). Some of my computers might have IPv6 turned on if I haven't turned it off already. I'm truly at a loss and hope anyone has some crazy idea how to solve this. Bottom line, I need a switch in my office behind the firewall. I've changed everything. The real crux is I will find a working solution and, again, after days it will stop working. So this means I cannot isolate if its a computer since I have to use them. Oh and a solution is not throwing more money at this. I'm well into $1k already. Yah, lame.

  • Juniper Networks SRX240 as a office router?

    We're a small (7 person) fast growing startup who just got our new office and we're having a 100 Mbps line installed from Cogent. I'm not familiar with Juniper devices, however the equivalent Cisco appears to be rather expensive. Features we'd like: Offsite VPN access (PPTP or L2TP IPsec) - something Mac compatible IPv6 support NAT - ideally supporting multiple outside addresses mapped to VLANs DHCP DNS forwarding would be nice QoS to keep our SIP phones happy (managed through RingCentral) VLANs for guest/internal The device is going to be connected to a set of SIP phones as well as two Ruckus 7962s for wireless access. Eventually I'd like to connect it to a Juniper ESX switch as we grow. Would a Juniper SRX240 handle this ok?

  • I can't get router and switches configured properly for my home office network

    Networking Gurus, I recently built a new detached garage, with an office above. As such I had it tied into my existing home ethernet wiring. The ethernet signal is coming into the garage just fine, but I can not get my network configured the way I want because of problems trying to link the various router/switch devices. Please see the following links for the network diagrams: Home Network So basically, I can't my future state to work. I'm not sure if I'm using incompatible switches or what, but I tried the future state with some 4 port switches from best buy and had no luck. I resorted to setting up the Current State so I could operate. What I am looking for is help on how best to get my future state to work. Just wondered, is it difficult to setup the Mac to run on the office network - i.e. does it need any special settings or servers or anything like that? and also printers...can I use the network printer as normal. I am just pottrying to think ahead of any ential issues. Also share drives...will I be able to access share drives and my backups to these shares drives - all a bit daunting!   • Needs free/ opensource network monitoring tool for office LAN

    I know there must be a lot similar questions on SU. Let me explain my setup first. I have 4-5 PC, Laptops and Few Android Phones in my office. To get them on a network , I have a UTStarCom, WA3002G1 ADSL2+ router with a landline broadband connection which has nothing to do with any PC except the configuration settings. Broadband channel is always on, we need to switch on the router and the internet is ready for us. No Internet Connection sharing is done via any PC. I have a limited 20GB monthly plan, which is consumed in 10-20 days, depending upon the download requirements. So in the above case, i need some suggestions from you: How do I monitor my Internet Bandwidth along-with the connected systems, realtime? Any free opensource tool available? Tweaks / Changes in PC to save bandwidth as my ISP do not have any Unlimited plan. PC and Laptops are Windows XP and/Or windows 7. Either of the platform tools are welcome.

  • Creating an office network and monitoring all activity without a proxy

    We are setting up our office network and would like to track all the websites visited by our employees. However, we would not like to use any proxy based solutions. Our work is highly dependent on applications in which you cannot configure a proxy. Hence, the approach we would like to follow is setting up a router inside a computer (something like this : http://www.techrepublic.com/article/configure-windows-server-2003-to-act-as-a-router/5844624) This will also allow us to attach multiple ethernet cards and have redundancy in internet connectivity with complete abstraction from the user about which connection is being used. But most importantly, since all the traffic will be going through the computer (configured as a router) I assume there will be a way to run packet analysis on all the request / responses being made. For example, list all the FTP servers connected to (port 21), give a graph of all the URLs visited per day by frequency. Is there already a software which does this ? Or is it possible to build something like this ?

    I have a scenario where I want to be able to allow customers to login to a customer facing portal on the web, and log issues / bugs. Internal team members should then be notified via email and the issue should be logged in Project Server. The ticket status should be Open, until either resolved or close, where the customer will be notified via email. Is this possible to do using Microsoft Project Server 2010? The question could also be can customers submit bugs to office 2010 projects via a custom web form of some kind, and can project handle the back-end gracefully.

  • Windows Web Server in DataCenter Authenticate with AD in Office

    Hi, We would like to have put a File Server in DataCentre to allow user to upload/download files when they are home. Since we have hundreds of users and would like to let the user to authenticate with the existing AD in our office. Basically, I will setup the IIS server to allow users to list various directories in the File Server based on their user group. For example, Group A will have list the D:\Files\A and the Group B will have list the D:\Files\B ...etc. After some initial study, I found that the PPTP based Site to Site VPN might fit our need to do the authentication part but I still don't have any idea on how to let them upload files to the server. Is there any suggestions such as any better option to do this (either authentication or upload part) or any area I need to be careful of? Thank you in advance.

Mostly it is working, but every time I do a sync I get a lot of such errors: D500E7B8.tmp - A file was deleted on this computer and changed on the server while this computer was offline. There are hundreds of them. I always select all of them and choose resolution "Delete from both locations". But what is causing this and how can I avoid it? I suspect the reason is that we are using Debian and Samba (3.4.7) on our file server. I've been looking for some Samba options that would cure this, but with no success. I learned that probably the cause is, that both Word and Excel are using specific pattern to change files - they never change the original file, but instead always write a new temporary file and rename it to original file, when you click Save.   • OOF (Out of Office) is not working for remote users (Outlook Anywhere)

    I'm not sure how long this issue has been happening, but recently a few of the remote sales users were going to a sales meeting and wanted to set their Out of Office... however in Outlook 2010, they get this error message: "Your automatic reply settings cannot be displayed because the server is currently unavailable" When I run the Exchange Remote Connectivity Analyzer, Autodiscover completes fine, but the next step fails: Exception details: Message: The request failed. The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden.   • Single PC Satellite Office Firewall

    We are setting up a small, single PC office about 200 miles away. We plan on getting a cable internet connection but need some advice on a sufficient firewall. We would like to keep it under $100 if possible. 2 options we are considering are: Cisco RVS4000 (got some bad reviews) Linksys WRT120N (running DD-WRT) We need the ability for VPN but other than that we don't need anything special. We just want to keep that PC as safe as possible but easily maintainable because most work will be done remotely. What suggestions or solutions can you recommend for this application?

  • Best way to log internet traffic for office network via remote IP

    We have a network of about 40 machines running either Win XP or 7 in our office via LAN switches into 1 x Netgear Router (WNDR3700). We have noticed recently that our local network has been added to the CBL Blacklist due to one of our machines being infected with Torpig. I have attempted to use Kaspersky's TDSSKiller Antirootkit Utility to find the infected machine but all appear to be clear. The CBL register advises to find the local machine which is connection to the remote IP address (CBL has provided the range). However, our router does not have the ability to block remote IP addresses - does anyone know of a software which can log all the internet traffic, which we can then use to find the infected machine.

  • When developing a Microsoft Office Add-In (for Word), is it possible to store hidden metadata inform

    I am trying to store metadata (basically a unique id) along with each cell of a table in a Word document. Currently, for the add-in I'm developing, I am querying the database, and building a table inside the Word document using the data that is retrieved. I want to be able to save any of the user's edits to the document, and persist it back to the database. My initial thought was to store a unique id along with each cell in the table so that I would be able to tell which records to update. I would also like to store some sort of "isChanged" flag within each cell so that I could tell which cells were changed. I found that I could add the needed information into the "ID" property of the cell - however, that information was not retained if the user saved the document, closed it, and re-opened it. I then tried storing the data by adding a data to the "Fields" collection - but that did not work and threw a runtime error. Here is the code that I tried: object t1 = Word.WdFieldType.wdFieldEmpty; object val = "myValue: " + counter; object preserveFormatting = true; tbl.Cell(i, j).Range.Fields.Add(tbl.Cell(i, j).Range, ref t1, ref val, ref preserveFormatting); This compiles fine, but throws this runtime error "This command is not available". So, is this possible at all? Or am I headed in the wrong direction? Thanks in advance.

My issue is that within th text I have malformed sequences: If the text doesn't start with a date, and end with a name my extraction fails. For example, the text above may have several mal formed sequences, such as: abcabcabcabc<2007-01-12><name1> Should be: <2007-01-12>abcabcabcabc<name1> Is it possible to have a regular expression that would clean the above, prior to extracting my consistent pattern. In short, i need to find all mal formed patterns, and then take the date tag and put it in front of it, as provided in the example above. Thanks.
