• InvalidOperationException sequence contains more than one element even when only one element

  I have three tables, tblCompany table, tblParts table and a link table between them tblLinkCompanyParts. Since tblLinkCompanyParts is a link table so the columns that it has are LinkCompanyPartID(primary key), CompanyID from tblCompany table and PartID from tblParts as foreign keys. I have tied them up in the dbml file. In code if I write LinkCompanyParts.Parts (where LinkCompanyParts is an object of the tblLinkCompanyParts type) to get to the corresponding Part object I get the "InvalidOperationException: Sequence constains more than one element". I have looked at the data in the database and there is only one Parts record associated with the LinkCompanyPartID. The stack trace reads like at System.Linq.Enumerable.SingleOrDefault[TSource](IEnumerable`1 source) at System.Data.Linq.EntityRef`1.get_Entity() at ... I read about SingleOrDefault vs FirstOrDefault but since the link table should have a one-one mapping therefore I think SingleOrDefault should work and besides "SingleOrDefault" statement is being generated behind the scenes in the designer.cs file at the following line return this._Part.Entity; Any ideas?

• Google analytics e-commerce tracking

  Good morning or afternoon wherever you are, I am having issues with Google Analytics e-commerce tracking. On certain days it the e-commerce tracking is returning a value of $1.00 of revenue which is impossible because it is a hotel booking website. Im am so puzzled and not knowing where to go next with this. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you! • SQL to get range of results in alphabetical order

  I have a table, tblTags which works in much the same way as StackOverflows tagging system. When I view a tags page, let's say the tag Tutorial I want to display the 10 tags before and after it in alphabetical order. So if we are given the tag Tutorial of ID 30 how can we return a record set in the order resembling: Tap Tart > Tutorial Umbrellas Unicorns Xylaphones I have thought of ways of doing this, badly, in my opinion as they involve retrieving ugly amounts of data. I'm not sure if it's possible to do something along the lines of (pseudo): SELECT RANGE(0 - 30) FROM tblTags ORDER BY Name ASC But how do you know the position of the tutorial tag in the list in an efficient manner without traversing the entire list until you find it? I'm using SQL Server 2008 R2 Express with LINQ if it makes any difference, SQL queries or LINQ would be great answers, thanks!

  Given this table structure, I want to flatten out the many-to-many relationships and make the values in the Name field of one table into column headers and the quantities from the same table into column values. The current idea which will work is to put the values into a Dictionary (hashtable) and represent this data in code but im wondering if there is a SQL way to do this. I am also using Linq-to-SQL for data access so a Linq-to-SQL solution would be ideal. • Enumerable.Range in and Expression and Entity Framework

  I'm currently developping an expression method (used in linq to entity queries) who has to give me a daycount for a given period (start date and end date) decrementing this daycount if specials days are in the period. My idea was the following : Generate an enumerable with all the dates (and with Enumerable.Range) Make a .Where on this enumerable to remove the specials dates Like a MyEnumerable.Where(a = a != "20120101") After that, return a MyEnumerable.Count() I come with this code : return (p) => Enumerable .Range(1, 4) .Where(a => a != 20120101) .AsQueryable() .Count() I tried to cast as a list, as a queryable, both (like the example) and no way ! it doesn't work ! I always get this error : LINQ to Entities does not recognize the method 'System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable`1[System.Int32] Range(Int32, Int32)' method, and this method cannot be translated into a store expression. Have you got an idea about that ? Using an enumerable is of course not mandatory, any working solutions is good ^^ Thank's by advance !

Now how do I make sure that any changes in the datagrid is written back to the database?   Hi I am wondering is there a way to do batch updating? I am using ms sql server 2005. I saw away with the sqlDataAdaptor but it seems like you have to first the select statement with it, then fill some dataset and make changes to dataset. Now I am using linq to sql to do the select so I want to try to keep it that way. However it is too slow to do massive updates. So is there away that I can keep my linq to sql(for the select part) but using something different to do the mass update? Thanks

I have a linq to entity framework 4 query in it's simplest form: List = List.Where(f => f.Value.ToString().ToLowerInvariant().Contains(filter.ToLowerInvariant())); It's a query against an Entity Framework DbContext and I'm having trouble seeing why it works for something like: List searching for 001 yields no results against the following list Test001 Test002 Test003 Test004 However any other search yields results (Such as t00 or Test) Update Basically I'm looking for why a query such as the above wouldn't return a result when I'm using a contains and the value matches the end of a string vs just the middle or begining. It's really confusing. OK, it appears to have something to do with ToLowerInvariant() - when I removed that method it works just fine.

  Hey I have a problem with my LINQ to Entity model many to mant relation. I am new to both C# and LINQ, so bear with me. I have a model containing pictures and tags, where each picture can have many tags, and each tag can be on many pictures. In the db there is a normal relation table, but in the object model I see it as picture.tags (as a list) and tag.pictures (as a list). A search query contains several tags, and the result of the search is to contain all pictures that are tagged with all the tags (but maybe more) I have searched for. The number of tags to search for is not fixed. How can this best be done?

• Efficient retrieval of lists over WebServices

  I have a WCF WebService that uses LINQ and EF to connect to an SQL database. I have an ASP.NET MVC front end that collects its data from the webservice. It currently has functions such as List<Customer> GetCustomers(); As the number of customers increases massively the amount of data being passed increases also reducing efficiency. What is the best way to "page data" across WebServices etc. My current idea is to implement a crude paging system such as List<Customer> GetCustomers(int start, int length); This, however, means I would have to replicate such code for all functions returning List types. It is unfortunate that I cannot use LINQ as it would be much nicer. Does anyone have any advice or ideas of patterns to implement that would be "as nice as possible" Thanks

  This is really annoying...and I know it is something extremely simple... 1. I create a new Dynamic Data project. 2. I add a LINQ-to-SQL class and drag and drop some tables onto the class. 3. I open the global.asax.vb and uncomment the line: DefaultModel.RegisterContext(GetType(YourDataContext), New ContextConfiguration() With {.ScaffoldAllTables = True}) I remove YourDataContext and replace it with the DataContext from my LINQ-to-SQL class: DefaultModel.RegisterContext(GetType(NorthwindDataContext), New ContextConfiguration() With {.ScaffoldAllTables = True}) I then try to debug/build/etc. and receive the following error: Type 'NorthwindDataContext' is not defined Why is it not defined? It seems like its not recognizing I created the DBML file.

The build available at SourceForge is dated by Nov 2009, although I see there was a lot of activity later, especially related to LINQ development. So what is the best option? Please note, that I'm not interested in 8-month old builds - I need the latest code for tests (LINQ, performance).   hi all: I was in http://finance.yahoo.com/ and checked the europe tab ( markets are open here atm) you ll see trades updating live, I went to firebug to the Net tab and there was no updates... so I wonder how are they doing that? I can see there is a streamerapi.finance.yahoo.com that actually makes fiddler throw an error. Anyone knows anything else about this live update? Really interested in this, would really like to know if they are constantly polling , the updates seem to happen at irregular intervals found some info here Please note my interest is on the seeminly push aspect of it ( ie view is updated when there is new information) Cheers

I want to add a series of names and then on another page, I want to be able to use a foreach loop to echo out all the names in that array. This is the session: $_SESSION['names'] I want to add a series of names to that array using array_push like this: array_push($_SESSION['names'],$name); I am getting this error: array_push() [function.array-push]: First argument should be an array Can I use array_push to put multiple values into that array?   I have a programming problem =) std::vector<char*> Names; if(MyPacket.ID == 3) {Names.push_back(MyPacket.Buffer);} I push the recieved buffer onto a vector like so, but when the buffer changes so does the value of the variable at that point in the vector. So say I sent and pushed a buffer containing 'Simon' onto the vector that would be fine so at point [0] on the vector would be the word Simon. but then when I recieve a new buffer it overwrites position [0] even though the packets ID is different, a breakpoint within the if statement is not reached with this new buffer. I really hope i'm explaining this well enough, I tried asking a friends advice and he pointed me towards this site. Any help appreciated David Andrews

(toldya it was a n00b question) Should I have a thread which receives info on a socket and then writes it to a database which the browser display (PHP) can process with an HTML refresh tag, or what?   I'm trying to set up one of my Drupal sites to push a node to another Drupal site in a multi-site configuration. It looks like I need to do this with services somehow, but I can't find any tutorials out there and I need at least to be pointed in the right direction. What I believe I need is set up Services on the receiving site to accept a call from the sending site which will be sending the node object via Json or serialized PHP using a Key that was set up on the receiving site. • Keeping connection to APNs open on App Engine using Modules in Go

  I'm trying to implement iOS push notifications for a messageboard app I've written (so like notification for new message ect. ect.) but have no real idea where to start. Alot the current documentation seems to be out of date in regard to keeping persistent TLS connections open to the APNs from App Engine and links to articles about depreciated backends I'm using the Go runtime and just keep getting stuck. For instance, the creation of the socket connection to APNs requires a Context which can only be got from a HTTP request, but architecturally this doesn't seem to make a lot of sense because ideally the socket remains open regardless. Is there any clearer guides around that I'm missing or right now is it a better idea to setup a separate VPS or compute instance to handle it?

  I'm just wondering if there is a way to have a server push information to a JavaScript function. Essentially I have a Dashboard-type page that has a javaScript function to get updates from the server and update the dashboard. I would like my server to be able to "ping" the JS. I don't even know how that could be possible (I'm guessing Twitter and Facebook use polling?), but I'd thought I ask. I heard of Comet, but I don't know if that works with a plain standard IIS 7 installation? (It's a SharePoint 2010 site if that matters in any way) If I understand it correctly, Comet is essentially a constantly open connection, so it seems like it's actually the opposite of what I want (reducing # of requests and therefore load)

  Hi, I've got a weird issue with Ruby. I want to read data from a file and put the data then into an array. The weird thing is, it's working in another script which does basically, the same thing. quoteArray = [] quoteFile = File.new("quotes.txt", "r") or die "Unable to open file..." quoteFile.each_line { |line| quoteArray.push line } puts quoteArray[0] All I get out of this is an array with one element where the whole text file is in. What's wrong? Is it my machine? The text file? Any ideas? Thanks in advance

• How to push changes from Test server to Live server?

  As a beginner, I finally noticed the issue with making changes to the live server I've been working on, now that I have a couple users on it, since I bring it down so often. I created an EC2 image of my live server and set up a separate instance on EC2, so now I have 2 EC2 instances, Stage and Production. I set up GitHub and push changes to stage and test my code there, and when it's all done and working, I push it to the production branch, and everything is good. And there is a slight issue here since I name my files config_stage.js and config_production.js and set up .gitignore on each server, and in my code, I would have it read the ENV flags and set up the appropriate configs, is this the correct approach? And my main question is: how do you keep track of non-code changes to the server? For example, I installed HAProxy, Stunnel, Redis, MongoDB and several other things onto the Stage server for testing and now that it's all working and good, how do I deploy them to production? Right now, I'm just keeping track of everything I installed and copying configuration files over, which is very tedious and I'm afraid I may have missed a step somewhere. Is there a better way to port these changes over from my test server to my live server?
