  IIS 7.5, server 2008 r2, classic asp and asp .net 2.0, 3.5 website same server, same app pool. The past 4 weeks thousands of these errors 'C0000005' are occurring. I know from IIS debug diag tool that 'C0000005' is an access violation error. Below is the top line from my debug diag report. I am in no mans land as I am a developer and not a sys admin but I have to assume many roles. So I'm reaching out for help. Sometimes I will see hundreds of these 'C0000005' scriptengine errors in the event log in a matter of seconds and other times just a few times an hour. I googled this line 'ASP!CACTIVESCRIPTENGINE::GETAPPLICATION' and got nothing. Its like the function don't exist or something. I have spent many hours google-ing to no avail and am now turning to the experts on the forums. Thank you for your help

• Why did Intel drop the Itanium?

  I was reading up on the history of the computer and I came along the IA-64 (Itanium) processors. They sounded really interesting and I was confused as to why Intel would decide to drop them. The ability to choose explicitly what 2 instructions you wanted to run in that cycle is a great idea, especially when writing your program in assembly, for example, a faster bootloader. The hundreds of registers should be convincing for any assembly programmer. You could essentially store all the functions variables in the registers if it doesn't call any other ones. The ability to do instructions like this: (qp) xor r1 = r2, r3 ; r1 = r2 XOR r3 (qp) xor r1 = (imm8), r3 ; r1 = (imm8) XOR r3 versus having to do: ; eax = r1 ; ebx = r2 ; ecx = r3 mov eax, ebx ; first put r2 into r1 xor eax, ecx ; then set r1 equivalent to r2 XOR r3 or ; SAME mov eax, (imm32) ; first put (imm32) into r1 xor eax, ecx ; then set r1 equivalent to (imm32) XOR r3 I heard it was because of no backwards x86 comparability, but couldn't thy be fixed by just adding the Pentium circuitry to it and just add a processor flag that would switch it to Itanium mode (like switching to Protected or Long mode) All the great things about it would have surly put them a giant leap ahead of AMD. Any ideas? Sadly this means you will need a very advanced compiler to do this. Or even one per specific model of the CPU. (E.g. a newer version of the Itanium with an extra feature would require different compiler). When I was working on a WinForms (target only had .NET 2.0) project in Visual Studio 2010, I had a compile target of IA-64. That means that there is a .NET runtime that was able to be compiled for IA-64 and a .NET runtime means Windows. Plus, Hamilton's answer mentions Windows NT. Having a full blown OS like Windows NT means that there is a compiler capable of generating IA-64 machine code.

• Debug/step into a Linux boot

  Is there a way to watch Linux boot as though it was a program compiled with GCC on a Linux environment using the -g switch so, say, I can step through the entire boot sequence from GRUB onwards, choosing to step through at C source level or assembly when necessary/desirable, by using GDB or a GDB-like tool? I suspect it would require a virtual machine at least, to watch the boot on a host environment. Any elaboration on this topic of observing a boot would be appreciated!

• Getting an ASP.MVC2/VS2010 application to work in IIS 7.5

  I've recently downloaded beta 2 of VS2010 and started playing with ASP.NET MVC2. Initial development was done with Casini, but now I wanted to run the application from IIS 7.5 (I'm running Windows 7). I've installed the IIS6 metabase compatiblity and I run VS2010 as administrator so I can use the "Create Virtual Directory" button from the "Web" tab of the project settings. This created the web application entry in IIS, but it doesn't work. When I go to the main page (http://localhost/MyMvcApp/) I get a HTTP 403 error. When I go directly to one of the sub-pages (http://localhost/MyMvcApp/Home/) I get an HTTP 404. So I guess for some reason the URL routing isn't working. I've already added UrlRouting as a module and a handler to the web.config. In my searches this is offered as a solution for some similair problems. But for me this still doesn't work. • NHibernate, could not load an entity when column exists in the database.

  This is probably a simple question to answer but I just can't figure it out. I have a "Company" class with a many-to-one to "Address" which has a many to one to a composite id in "City". When I load a "Company" it loads the "Address", but if I call any property of "Address" I get the error: {"could not load an entity: [IDI.Domain.Entities.Address#2213][SQL: SELECT address0_.AddressId as AddressId13_0_, address0_.Street as Street13_0_, address0_.floor as floor13_0_, address0_.room as room13_0_, address0_.postalcode as postalcode13_0_, address0_.CountryCode as CountryC6_13_0_, address0_.CityName as CityName13_0_ FROM Address address0_ WHERE address0_.AddressId=?]"} The inner exception is: {"Invalid column name 'CountryCode'.\r\nInvalid column name 'CityName'."} What I don't understand is that I can run the query in sql server 2005 and it works, furthermore both those columns exist in the address table. • XmlSerializer throws exception when serializing dynamically loaded type

  Hi I'm trying to use the System.Xml.Serialization.XmlSerializer to serialize a dynamically loaded (and compiled class). If I build the class in question into the main assembly, everything works as expected. But if I compile and load the class from an dynamically loaded assembly, the XmlSerializer throws an exception. • ASP.NET MVC + MySql Membership Provider, user cannot login

  Hello, I've been playing around with using MySql as the membership provider for asp.net mvc forms authentication. I've got things configured correctly as far as i can tell, and i can create users via both the register action and asp.net web config site. however, when i try to login with one of the users, it does not work. it returns an error as if i had entered a wrong password, or if the account doesn't exist. i have verified in the database that the account does exist. UPDATE So after debugging the login process in the code of the membership provider itself, i discovered that there is a bug in the provider. There is a discrepancy between the password hash that is stored in the database, and the has that is generated based on the inputted password. As a workaround for my issue, i changed the password format to 'encrpyted' and added a machine key to my web.config. I am still interested in figuring out the issue with the hashed format in the provider, and will spend some more time debugging it, and if i can figure out the problem, i will put together a patch and submit it.

  I am trying to switch a table from being a many-to-one mapping to being many-to-many with an intermediate mapping table. However, when I switched it over and tried to do a query on it with NHibernate, it's giving me this error: "Interceptor.OnPrepareStatement(SqlString) returned null or empty SqlString." My query was originally something more complex, but I switched it to a basic fetch all and I'm still having the problem: Session.QueryOver<T>().Future(); It would seem to either be a problem in my model mapping files or something in my database.   I'm having a lot of problems configuring dovecot ony vps. I'm already able to send email using port 110 and to receive email using port 25, but I can't connect using port 993 and 995. I'm using self-signed ssl certificates. • "Error encountered while BER decoding" in Adobe Acrobat Pro X when applying timestamp

  I have a tedious problem with Acrobat Pro X 10.1.3.23: when I want to apply a timestamp to a document I always get that error. I have configured VeriSign TSA server http://timestamp.verisign.com/scripts/timstamp.dll and it returns that error. I have tried Comodo CA http://timestamp.comodoca.com/authenticode and Aruba https://servizi.arubapec.it/tsa/ngrequest.php but all three returned the same exact error. My PDFs are now signed without a certified timestamp and this is a problem for me. I'm obliged to sign documents and apply a certified timestamp at the same time. This seems to be a common error in Acrobat, but I found no solution to it. Can somebody help me?

  I would like to connect to my Postgres 8.3 database using SSL from my XP client using OpenSSL. This works fine without SSL. When I try it with SSL (no client certificate), I get the error: error:140790E5:SSL routines:SSL23_WRITE:ssl handshake failure I have followed the instructions in the Postgres manual for SSL including creating a self-signed certificate. In my pg_hba.conf there is a line: host dbname loginname 123.45.67.89/32 md5 The version of OpenSSL on the server is 0.9.8g and on the client is 0.9.8j. I'd appreciate any suggestions for tracking down the problem.   I have an ASP.NET MVC 1.0 application that uses Forms Authentication. We are using Windows Server 2008. I need to lock down the site so that only certain users (in AD Groups) can access the site. Unfortunately, though, when I set the site to not allow anon users and use windows authentication, due to the integration of the site and IIS, it shows the user as signed in as their domain account, instead of allowing them to sign in through Forms Auth. So, I need a mixed mode authentication. I need the site to be only accessible through windows auth, without anon users, but once you are in, it needs to use forms auth only. How would I go about doing this the right way?

  I'm having a rough time getting SSL configured properly on an Openfire install. Quite honestly, I just don't know what to do. It seems convoluted on the steps necessary to get a cert imported. Has anyone out there successfully done this? I'm running Openfire 3.6.4 on Server2003 R2. I have a signed UC cert which is ready to roll, I just don't know what to do with it. I've been through tons of tutorials on converting from .crt to .der to .pem, using openssl and java tools, but its only getting more confusing as I go.

• Exchange 2003 Outlook Anywhere - Changed certificate, not working

  I have a single Exchange 2003 installation which for the past 2 years has been set up for Outlook Anywhere access by means of a self-signed certificate. Just this past week I updated that certificate to a Go Daddy wildcard certificate to allow for use of our web services over https. I've updated the web listener on our ISA 2006 firewall and I can successfully use our services over https. However, my Outlook Anywhere access is now not functioning. I've installed the new wildcard certificate on my XP notebook into the Trusted Root Certificate Store but I keep getting prompted that the password is incorrect. To make things even more confusing I also have OWA set up and this works fine with the new certificate. Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?

• Unknown protocol when trying to connect to remote host wit stunnel

  I'm trying to set up a stunnel for WebDav on Windows. I want to connect 80 port on my local interface to 443 on another machine in my network. I can ping the machine remote machine. However when I use the tunnel, I'm getting this error all the time SSL state (accept): before/accept initialization SSL_accept: 140760FC: error:140760FC:SSL routines:SSL23_GET_CLIENT_HELLO:unknown protocol There is nothing in the logs on the other machine and here's my stunnel connection config [https] accept = 127.0.0.2:80 connect = 10.0.0.60:443 verify = 0 I've set it up to accept all certificates so this shouldn't be a problem with a self-signed certificate remote host uses. Does anyone knows what might be the problem that this connection cannot be eastablished?

  I've read some articles here that suggest that we are able to retrieve Chrome's history as SQLite databases: Export history from chome browser How can I view "archived" Google Chrome history — i.e. history older than three months? I can't seem to find the folder where these are supposed to be located. In the first article, the provided path was ~/Library/Application\ Support/Google/Chrome/Default/History, but there is no such directory in my filesystem. I am using Chrome 26.0.1410.65 on Mac OS X Lion. And I am signed in with my Google account. • Add a custom certificate authority to Ubuntu

  Hello; I have created a custom root certificate authority for an internal network, example.com. Ideally, I would like to be able to deploy the CA certificate associated with this certificate authority to my Linux clients (running Ubuntu 9.04 and CentOS 5.3), such that all of the applications automatically recognize the certificate authority (i.e. I do not want to have to configure Firefox, Thunderbird, etc manually to trust this certificate authority). I have attempted this on Ubuntu by copying the PEM-encoded CA certificate to /etc/ssl/certs/ and /usr/share/ca-certificates/, as well as by modifying /etc/ca-certificates.conf and rerunning update-ca-certificates, however applications do not seem to recognize that I have added another trusted CA to the system. Therefore, is it possible to add a CA certificate once to a system, or is it necessary to manually add the CA to all of the possible applications that will attempt to make SSL connections to hosts signed by this CA in my network? If it is possible to add a CA certificate once to the system, where does it need to go? Thanks.

• LDAP over SSL/TLS working for everything but login on Ubuntu

  I have gotten OpenLDAP with SSL working on a test box with a signed certificate. I can use an LDAP tool on a Windows box to view the LDAP over SSL (port 636). But when I run dpkg-reconfigure ldap-auth-config to setup my local login to use ldaps, my login under a username in the directory doesn't work. If I change the config to use just plain ldap (port 389) it works just fine (I can login under a username in the directory). When its setup for ldaps I get Auth.log shows: Sep 5 13:48:27 boromir sshd[13453]: pam_ldap: ldap_simple_bind Can't contact LDAP server Sep 5 13:48:27 boromir sshd[13453]: pam_ldap: reconnecting to LDAP server... • QoS / PBR Routing Questions

  I have a 50Mbs Satellite link and a 10Mbs Microwave link supplying a very remote location. Behind these links, I have a 6,400 seat network - with about 3,000 signed in at any one time. My goal is to send all of the Voip traffic (Google Chat, Magic Jack, Skype, Speakeasy, Vonage, Vonage PC, Yahoo) through the microwave link which has 100ms latency. The rest of the traffic can utilize any remaining bandwidth of the microwave link with excess being diverted to the higher latency (600ms) satellite connection. The problem I've had so far is that most automatic routing configurations weigh the bandwidth heavily for preference - and I'm only wanting latency considered. Additionally, I don't know if this can even be handled with the routing hardware I have at my disposal (Cisco 3640, 3745, & 3845). Any recommendations (or really good starting points) would be greatly appreciated.
