  • SQLServer 2008 Pivot

    I need to show some information in a graph, the data is held in a SQL Server 2008 table. The graph is expecting 2 columns, one for QuestionNumber and the other for Score. The table containing the data has column names that correspond to the question numbers ie A1, A2, A3, A4, B1, B2, B3, B4, C1, C2. Each question is given a score of 1 to 5. I need to show a graph where the X axis shows A1, A2, A3 etc and the Y axis shows the score. I'm thinking I somehow need to rotate the data to achive this, but I'm not sure how. Maybe a different technique can acheive this rather that a Rotate, so I'm open to any ideas.

    I have a table "tbluser" with 2 fields: userid = integer (autoincrement) user = nvarchar(100) I have a multithreaded/multi server application that uses this table. The stored procedure either gets the userid or insert the user if it is a new user. Am I correct to assume that the table is locked (only one server can insert/query)?

  • SqlServer slow on production environment

    I have a weird problem in a production environment at a customer. I can't give any details on the infrastructure except that sql server runs on a virtual server and the data, log and filestream file are on another storage server (data and filestream together and log on a seperate server). Now, there's this query that when we run it gives these durations (first we clear the cache): 300ms, 20ms, 15ms, 17ms,... First time it takes longer, but from then on it is cached. At the customer, on a sql server that is more powerfull, these are the durations (I didn't have the rights to clear the cache. Will try this tomorrow). 2500ms, 2600ms, 2400ms, ... The query can be improved, that's right, but that's not the question here. How would you tackle this? I don't know where to go from here. The servers at this customer are really more powerfull but they do have virtual servers (we don't). What could be the cause... - Not enough memory? - Fragmentation? - Physical storage? I know it can be a lot of things, but maybe some of you have got some info for me on how to go on with this issue...

    Hi, this is what I want to achieve: 4 tables are involved: Players with PlayerID as PK, Competitions with CompetID as PK Results with ResultID as PK and CompetID as FK And the 4th table: PlayerResultts with ResultID + PlayerID as PK and CompetID as new column I created. Competitions, results and PlayerResults are already populated and quite large (300000 PlayerResults so far). In order to populate the PlayerResults.CompetID column, I try a Update ... (Select....) request but I'm not aware of the right syntax and it fails. Here is my feeble attempt: update PlayerResults set competid = (select distinct(r.competid) from results r, playerresults p where r.resultID = p.resultid) Error is (of course): "Msg 512, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Subquery returned more than 1 value. This is not permitted when the subquery follows =, !=, <, <= , , = or when the subquery is used as an expression." Can someone put me in the right direction? TIA

    Hi, I Have a DataBase in my project With Table named 'ProcessData' and columns named 'Start_At' (Type: DateTime) and 'End_At' (Type: DateTime) . When I try to enter a new record into this table, it enter the data in the following format: 'YYYY/MM/DD HH:mm', when I actualy want it to be in that format: 'YYYY/MM/DD HH:mm:ss' (the secondes dosen't apper). Does anyone know why, and what should I do in order to fix this?     Is there any way to set one job priority higher then other, In my case there are two jobs those are working on same set of tables,first JOB-A which is running every 12 hr and other JOB-B is every 10 minutes , i think at some time when they run simultaneously JOB-B is getting in to deadlock and get failed, i google the topic and found sqlgoverner is helpful in such cases does anyone know how to resolve?

I would like to fetch top 50 rows from database in the start up and bind to the Grid View and when i click on next page, then again go to the database and fetch Second Top 50 rows and bind to GV. and this process hasto continue until last row is fetched from Database. Sample Heading$P$P$Sample description$P$P$Sample conclusion Sample Heading$P$P$Sample Description If the delimiter appears twice, i need to insert a text before the second occurance of the delimiter. Eg: Sample Heading$P$P$Sample DescriptionINSERT TEXT HERE$P$P$Sample Conclusion If the delimiter occurs only once, then i need to insert a text at the end of the field.   • Sql Server 2005 database lost, How to recover all records. MDF/LDF size is same as it should be

    Few months back, I installed a sql server 2005 on one of my client machine. I gave him a backup option to take backup timely but he never took any backup. Today he called me that "i m not able to see any record of mine." I visited at my clients system and saw that none of the record was present on the tables. There was not even a single row in any of the tables. Then I checked if he has any backup file which i found to be absent. I asked him the reason what could be the possible cause. He said it might be due to virus. After this I checked the size of mdf and ldf file and found it should be what it is. when i created his server mdf ldf file had 2MB of database now it is 83 MB and 193Mb mdf/ldf respectively. This shows the data is still present in it but it is not being displayed. What could be the possible cause and how can i restore all data back to my tables ?

    I have one OPC ( OLE for Process control ) server project which is developed into visual studio 2005. I want to run it in visual studio 2008. The coding for the OPC server project is done in VC++. I want to connect my OPC client to this OPC server. When I was opened the OPC server project which was build into visual studio 2005 into visual studio 2008 first time it was asking for conversion wizard. I gone through that wizard & successfully finished that wizard. But when I build ( by right clicking on the project & choosing build solution ) it is giving lots of error near about 64 errors. Most of the errors are like - fetal error C1083:Can not open type library file:'msxml4.dll':No such file or directory, fetal error LINK1181:can not open input file 'rpcndr.lib' , error C2051:case expression not constant. only these 3 types of errors in am getting. All these 3 errors are repeated in Error list & becoming bunch of 64 errors. Please provide me the solution for the above issue. Can you provide me any suusgestion or link or any way through whcih I can resolve the above issue?

  • How to deploy SQL Reporting 2005 when Data Sources are locked?

    The DBAs here maintain all SQL Server and SQL Reporting servers. I have a custom developed SQL Reporting 2005 project in Visual Studio that runs fine on my local SQL Database and Reporting instances. I need to deploy to a production server, so I had a folder created on a SQL Reporting 2005 server with permissions to upload files. Normally, a deploy from within Visual Studio is all that is needed to upload the report files. However, for security purposes, data sources are maintained explicitly by DBAs and stored in a separated locked down common folder on the reporting server. I had them create the data source for me. When I attempt to deploy from VS, it gives me the error "The item '/Data Sources' already exists." I get this whether I'm deploying the whole project or just a single report file. I already set OverwriteDataSources=false in the project properties. The TargetServer URL and folder are verified correct. I suppose I could copy the files manually, but I'd like to be able to deploy from within VS. What could I be doing wrong?
