• Windows 7 does not recognize hdmi audio output

  I recently upgraded to Windows 7 on a Dell 545 MT with audio/video output via nVidia 9800 GTX+ to a flat screen television. I have installed/uninstalled/reinstalled all the most recent drivers from nVidia & realtek, but the machine will not recognize the hdmi output as a sound device (as it did previously in Vista). I troubleshot the problem with Dell for over an hour and was then directed to their software specialists who want $130 to fix the issue! Can anyone offer some insights on this? I've searched nVidia and Windows 7 forums w/o success and would really like to get sound coming back through my tv speakers. Many Thanks.

• Synergy on Mac OS X 10.7

  Unfortunately, I can't seem to get Synergy to work between two Mac clients both using 10.7. One is an older 21" iMac and the other is a new 2011 Macbook Air. Here's my synergy.conf, symlinked to my home directory as ~/.synergy.conf section: screens foo: bar: super = alt alt = super end section: links foo: right = bar bar: left = foo end That is, I thought the super = alt trick was mandatory in order to have alt work on Mac but unfortunately, nothing really works. Both the Command and Control keys do NOT work on bar but work fine on foo given that the keyboard is paired with that screen. The keyboard modifier keys are the same on both computers and the making the mouse go between screens works as well. I was wondering if anyone else had any success or problems running into this issue on 10.7 and was hoping there was a possible fix.

• Windows Firewall: How to allow traffic on port 8080?

  I am trying to configure team Foundation Server so that 1) it is accessible from within my Home Network 2) and then make the Web site access accessible via the Internet I have a problem with point 1: When I access http://192.168.1.106:8080/tfs/web/ locally from 192.168.1.106, it works. When I access the same web site from another PC in my home network, the abive URL works only if I turn of the Firewall on 192.168.1.106. Can someone please tell me specifically how to allow traffic on port 8080 without turning off Windows Firewall? It seems that the exceptions that I specify are intended for listing programs on the box that need to communicate out. Is IIS the program that I need to make the exception? How do I specify that port 8080 traffic should be allowed for web site traffic on this port? I hope to have success with pt. 2 later but I figure (1) should be done first. I expect issues.

• Opentype fonts in OpenOffice

  How to get opentype fonts in .otf format working on Ubuntu and OpenOffice 3.2? It would be great if I could use opentype features in OOo, but I'll be glad enough if I could use them even converted to TTF. I've tried numerous ways described on the net, but with no success. For now, I succeeded with using OTF fonts in Inkscape. How to get it working with OOo? Any news about opentype in upcoming versions of OOo? Can you recommend any other alternative to MS Word, or better yet Adobe Indesign with good OTF support?

• Firefox 3.5.5 won't install greasemonkey

  hi all, i've been struggling with this for a while now: i can't install greasemonkey on my firefox portable 3.5.5 :( it must be something with the latest update to 3.5.5. (i'm having win7 x64 ultimate) upgrading greasemonkey didn't work so i completely de-installed it and then tried (no success): installing greasemonkey via addons-dialog installing .xpi manually installing with "restart firefox" button installing by quitting + restarting firefox it simply just won't install / show up under addons. of course i de-activated all other plugins and started firefox as administrator. any ideas? thx

• How to debug xsane "no devices available" error on 64 bit Ubuntu 10.04

  I have a Brother MFC-J615W printer/scanner and I wish to use the scanning feature across a network with a computer running 64-bit Ubuntu 10.04. I have installed the drivers from the Brother website and followed all of the instructions, and printing works fine, but xsane (installed from repositories) produces a popup with the message "no devices available" on startup. I recently had success with a similar approach when installing drivers for a Brother MFC-495CW on 32-bit Unbuntu 9.10, so I am aware of issues such as requiring root access if the driver permissions are not set correctly, but running xsane as root does not solve this problem. Are there any tools available to debug this problem further or does anyone have advice on how to proceed?

• Specific IP routing for VPN

  Is there a way that I can prevent an entire subnet from using internal routing. The VPN server is supposed to be a way to access the company's intranet websites for some people, while for others it is supposed to do routing to the outside only and therefore not having access to any internal websites. The VPN server has a DNS on the actual server but not all should be using this DNS. Some of the users should be directly sent out of the server to the internet. Example: 10.0.0.1 is the DNS on the server, gateway for the VPN 10.0.0.2 is a user (A) on the VPN having access to the intranet websites (subnet is 10.0.0.0/25) 10.0.0.192 is a user (B) only needing routing and no access to intranet websites (subnet is 10.0.0.192/26) All traffic of user B should be directly rerouted out of the server. I have tried several iptables but without success.

• Any "Magic Tricks" For Getting Data Back After Windows 7 Install

  My old man installed Windows 7 without making a proper backup, and now realizes he left behind some important data. He did a true "clean install", so there is no Windows.old folder in the root directory. However, I believe the format performed on the hard drive was only a quick format, so I am hoping there is some chance at data recovery. I took his hard drive out, and have spent a majority of the weekend researching data recovery options. I paid $70 for the GetDataBack software, but have had little success with it. I can see all of the files I want to restore, however they appear corrupt when I try to open them. With that all being said, does anyone know of a viable way to recover some of this data, or is it a lost cause all together?

  I was trying to force my domain to redirect without www and could success through this code: .htaccess: RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.domain\.com [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*) http://domain.com/$1 [R=301,L] however, this code is going to redirect all www to non-www, which is not what I want. I just want to make the main domain from www.mydomain.com to mydomain.com and the rest of the urls should be forced to www. any idea how to add or modify the code so I can achieve that through .htaccess ? Update: Thanks to all. I found out that swf file from piecemaker was corrupted and updated it with new one. so now it is all fine and works on both www and non-www. I'm still curious how to solve this issue anyways using .htaccess. Thanks again.

But now I need to prevent the page from going to the script page or refreshing. When the user clicks the submit button, I want nothing to change except a message displaying successfully changed or error. • ft_stopword_file not picked up

  I have a VPS server with a company called Webfusion. I want to remove some or all of the FULLTEXT stopwords because some specific words needs to be searchable with my DB content. I opened /etc/mysql/my.cnf and added the line ft_stopword_file="". I restarted the mysql service, ran a repair table and then tried my MATCH query with no success. I ran SHOW VARIABLES LIKE 'ft_%' and it simply shows (built-in) next to the stopword file. I am running WAMP on my workstation, and whilst I realise this isn't configured the same as a commercial VPS, the above method worked just fine. Couple someone please offer some guidance?

• Java works under Firefox but crashes Internet Explorer

  Java works under Firefox and Chrome but not under IE. Here's what I tried (the advice normally given on forums): Java applet activated in tools - internet options - security tab - personnalise - Java applets Activated in tools - manage add-ons - tool bars and extensions - Java (tm) SSV2 helper - Activate Activated in tools - internet options - advanced tab - Use JRE for applet I've also deleted my temporary internet files (with Ccleaner), Reinstalled IE8 It is also set as the default Java for IE through the control panel - Java - Advanced tab - default Java for browsers - Microsoft Internet Explorer IE version: 8.0.6001.18702 Java version: 1.7.0_03. (also tried with 1.6.0_31) Windows XP SP3. Any advice? Thanks :) edit: I have activated the ActiveX controls through manage add-ons - all add-ons but now, although the coffe cup loading screen appears (which did not before) it makes IE crash (which is new). I might have fiddled too much with the registry by trying to completely remove Java to reinstall it, so I ran "rereg" (a tool to repair dlls and their registry entries) without success.

• bind tmux prefix to OS X cmd key (or any other binding)

  Hi all. I'm used to iTerm2 (or Terminal.app for this case) on OS X. But I want to move to use tmux (or screen, but the problem is similar to both apps). So my idea is to have a single iTerm tab with a tmux session opened with multiple tabs. To do the transition I have a basic feature I need to configure on tmux: switch the the tab 'n' by using cmd + n (like Firefox, Chrome, iTerm2 itself, etc) However I can't find a way of mapping the cmd key on the mac keyboard. I first tried to implement cmd as a prefix key, with no success. I've tried setting set-option -g prefix M-a (hoping for Meta-a) set-option -g prefix ^a (hoping for ^ to work) but nothing works. Is this possible? I don't really need to bind the prefix to cmd, but I want to be able to change tmux tabs with cmd+n. Thank you

• Format Factory not working for mov files

  I have attempted multiple destination formats with no success. I am using Format Factor 2.30. I drag and drop a .mov file into FF, select all to mpg (or any format) then click Start. It thinks for a couple seconds and then jumps to 100%. When I open the file I get no sound or picture from the video. These mov files were created with a Canon SX10 camera. (It is my brother's camera so I'm not sure of the model.) Any suggestions? TMPGEnc is able to convert the files with the QTReader plug in so the video isn't corrupted or something. Thanks. Jeff

• Gateway MX6440 CPU Upgrade

  I have received an a Gateway MX6440 laptop as a freebie, but I'm interested in upgrading its AMD Turion 64 ML-32 (socket 754) to something faster (and more cache). I know the range of processors that could work based on the family list in Wikipedia. However, this computer has the stock bios, and any updates I haven't applied from Gateway doesn't specify processor support. I'm looking to go to at least a 2.2 (ML-40). Has anybody upgraded the processor in this model or other in the series success or failure and do you happen to have any guides handy for working with the heat sink? Any Googling I have done keeps hitting RAM marketers. Update Computer died before I had a chance to try this out.

When I call the html page then .js file also included. In the .js,I am using $('div').live('pageshow',function(){}). I am calling the html file from the .js(using $.mobile.changePage("htmlpage")). My problem : consider, I have two html files. second.html file is called with in the one.js. when I show the second.html, that time one.js is reload again. • Port forwarding does not work always?

  I opened port 25374, this is eMule TCP port, then I use canyouseeme.org to check if it is really opened. I got the weird problem : when eMule is running, canyouseeme.org see my port. I got the message : "Success: I can see your service on xxx.xx.xxx.xx on port (25374) Your ISP is not blocking port 25374" When I close eMule then check the port again on canyouseeme.org I got : Error: I could not see your service on xxx.xx.xxx.xx on port (25374) Reason: Connection timed out But when I turn off the windows firewall I got a different error : Error: I could not see your service on xxx.xx.xxx.xx on port (25374) Reason: Connection refused Can anyone please explain to me why it happened like that and how to make the port always opened ? • Serve WordPress from root of site on Bitnami EC2 Ubuntu image

  Running Bitnami's Ubuntu Wordpress Image on Amazon EC2. By default the WordPress install is at /wordpress and there is a static index.html file in the root. How do I configure Apache and WordPress to serve from the root instead of /wordpress? I have tried the instructions on this page: http://digitivity.org/10/how-to-serve-your-wordpress-blog-from-the-root-directory-if-its-installed-in-a-subdirectory without success. I have tried changing the document root to the folder serving the wordpress content, but that just breaks WordPress. I know I am missing something simple, but not sure what. Any help would be appreciated.

• Send one invalid email response to sender

  I discovered that my postfix/dovecot configuration isn't rejecting emails. If a person sends an email to an invalid email-address, it just drops it. I am fine with this behavior since I think it discourages spammers from mining emails (I have had some success). Recently a person I did not want to talk to emailed an address I cut off and didn't receive a response back. It would have saved me some problems if they knew to call me instead of sending 50+ emails. How would I configure Dovecot/postfix to send a message back to a sender of an email address and then limit this 1 per domain or unique email. • Why does jquery leak memory so badly?

  This is kind of a follow-up to a question I posted last week: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2429056/simple-jquery-ajax-call-leaks-memory-in-ie I love the jquery syntax and all of its nice features, but I've been having trouble with a page that automatically updates table cells via ajax calls leaking memory. So I created two simple test pages for experimenting. Both pages do an ajax call every .1 seconds. After each successful ajax call, a counter is incremented and the DOM is updated. The script stops after 1000 cycles. One uses jquery for both the ajax call and to update the DOM. The other uses the Yahoo API for the ajax and does a document.getElementById(...).innerHTML to update the DOM. The jquery version leaks memory badly. Running in drip (on XP Home with IE7), it starts at 9MB and finishes at about 48MB, with memory growing linearly the whole time. If I comment out the line that updates the DOM, it still finishes at 32MB, suggesting that even simple DOM updates leak a significant amount of memory. The non-jquery version starts and finishes at about 9MB, regardless of whether it updates the DOM. Does anyone have a good explanation of what is causing jquery to leak so badly? Am I missing something obvious? Is there a circular reference that I'm not aware of? Or does jquery just have some serious memory issues? I tried wp-syntax and bbcode plugins - no success.
