  • VS debugging and watching a variable for changes

    I have a property inside a class that is getting changed by something. The only place I change the value of this code is a line that looks like this: pushpin.Position.Altitude = -31; During visual studio debugging, is there a way to watch .Altitude for any changes made, preferably it breaks at the assignment statement that changes the value. If this is the correct way to track down this problem, could I have a step-by-step tutorial/instruction on how to do this? Thanks.

  • Variable amount of columns returned in mysqli prepared statement

    I have a situation where a dynamic query is being generated that could select anywhere from 1 to over 300 different columns across multiple tables. It currently works fine just doing a query, however the issue I'm running into in using a prepared statement is that I do not know how to handle the fact that I don't know how many columns I will be asking for each time and therefor don't know how to process the results. The reason I believe a bind statement will help is because once this query is run once, it will most likely (though not always) be run again with the exact same parameters. Currently I have something like this: $rows = array(); $this->statement = $this->db->prepare($query); $this->statement->bind_param('i',$id); $this->statement->execute(); $this->statement->bind_result($result); while($this->statement->fetch()) { $rows[] = $result; } I know this doesn't work as I want it to, my question is how do I get the data back out of the query. Is it possible to bring the columns back in an associative array by column name, like a standard mysqli query?

  • Initiate a PHP class where class name is a variable

    I need some help with an error I have not encountered before and can't seem to find anywhere. In a PHP mvc framework (just from a tutorial) I have the following: // Initiate the class $className = 'Controller_' . ucfirst($controller); if (class_exists($className)) { $controller = new $className($this->registry); } $className is showing the correct class name (case is also correct). But when I run it I get this in the apache error log (no php error) [Wed Mar 31 10:34:12 2010] [notice] child pid 987 exit signal Segmentation fault (11) Process id is different on every call. I am running PHP 5.3.0 on os x 10.6. This site seems to work on 5.2.11 on another Mac. Not really sure where to go next to debug it. I guess it could be an apache setting as much as a php bug or a problem with the code... any suggestions on where to look next?

    I have a Ruby program that loads up two very large yaml files, so I can get some speed-up by taking advantage of the multiple cores by forking off some processes. I've tried looking, but I'm having trouble figuring how, or even if, I can share variables in different processes. The following code is what I currently have: @proteins = "" @decoyProteins = "" fork do @proteins = YAML.load_file(database) exit end fork do @decoyProteins = YAML.load_file(database) exit end p @proteins["LVDK"] P displays nil though because of the fork. So is it possible to have the forked processes share the variables? And if so, how?

    I swear this used to work, but it's not in this case. I'm trying to match col1, col2 and col3, even if one or more of them is null. I know that in some languages I've had to resort to circumlocutions like ((? is null AND col1 is null) OR col1 = ?). Is that required here?     Naming things well is arguably Job 1 for professional programmers. Yet we have all suffered from some bad naming choices from time to time. So just to vent a little, what are some doozies that you may have run across? Just to get things started: One of our original developers wasn't sure what to call a secondary key - on what turned out to be a primary table for this app - so he called it: DL2WhateverTheHellThatIs. Unfortunately this system generates entity mappings from the XML, and attributes defined there result in classes, methods, and constants that are referenced through-out the app. To this day it is very hard to find a source file that does not reference this, er, thing! A few actual examples: DL2WhateverTheHellThatIsBean cos = (DL2WhateverTheHellThatIsBean)itr.next(); String code = getDL2WhateverTheHellThatIs().getCode(); From from = new From("DL2WhateverTheHellThatIs"); String filter = "_dL2WhateverTheHellThatIs._code"; (Very difficult to refactor)

    i want fsolve to calculate the output for different uc each time (increasing uc by 0.001 each time). each output from fsolve should be sent to a simulink model seperatly. so i set a loop to do so, but i believe that at the currenty constellation (if it will work)will just calculate 1000 different values? is there a way to send out the values seperately? if not, how can i create a parameter uc. that goes from 0 to say 1000? i tried uc=0:0.001:1000, but again, the demension doen't seem to fit. how do i create a function that takes the next element of a vector/matrix each time the function is called? uc=0; for i=0:1000 x0=[1,1,1]; y=x0(1); u=x0(2); yc=x0(3); options=optimset('Display','off'); x= fsolve(@myfun,x0,options,uc,d,spacing_amplitude,spacing_width); end best regards

  • New to C# and trying to use a global variable

    Is it possible to use global variables in C#? I'm coming from mainly a PHP background so variables are either accessible everywhere or just a global definition away. My main issue is I have a User class that I built myself to wrap around the current users table on my company's database. I am defining it in the MasterPage but can't seem to access it from the actual pages (I don't know if there's a better word to describe them but they are the pages that inherit the styles and format from the MasterPage) Any general tips or implementation practices for me?   • Trouble defining a variable in PHP?

    Alright, so a content page uses this: $tab = "Friends"; $title = "User Profile"; include '(the header file, with nav)'; And the header page has the code: if ($tab == "Friends") { echo '<li id="current">'; } else { echo '<li>'; } The problem is, that the if $tab == Friends condition is never activated, and no other variables are carried from the the content page, to the header page. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Update: Alright, the problem seemed to disappear when I used ../scripts/filename.php, and only occurred when I used a full URL? Any ideas why?

  • Populating a foreign key table with variable user input

    I'm working on a website that will be based on user contributed data, submitted using a regular HTML form. To simplify my question, let's say that there will be two fields in the form: "User Name" and "Country" (this is just an example, not the actual site). There will be two tables in the database : "countries" and "users," with "users.country_id" being a foreign key to the "countries" table (one-to-many). The initial database will be empty. Users from all over the world will submit their names and the countries they live in and eventually the "countries" table will get filled out with all of the country names in the world. Since one country can have several alternative names, input like Chile, Chili, Chilli will generate 3 different records in the countries table, but in fact there is only one country. When I search for records from Chile, Chili and Chilli will not be included. So my question is - what would be the best way to deal with a situation like this, with conditions such that the initial database is empty, no other resources are available and everything is based on user input? How can I organize it in such way that Chile, Chili and Chilli would be treated as one country, with minimum manual interference. What are the best practices when it comes to normalizing user submitted data and is there a scientific term for this? I'm sure this is a common problem. Again, I used country names just to simplify my question, it can be anything that has possible different spellings.

Usually they will land on weekends but some will run for long weekend, bank holidays or even the odd week day. How can I get my tables columns to expand and shrink accordingly. I'd like to avoid the use of javascript if possible. If this can't be done I'm going to need a tutorial to help me get my head around how to make div's positioning behave. cheers

  • Accessing global variable in multithreaded Tomcat server

    I have a singleton object that I construct like thus: private static volatile KeyMapper mapper = null; public static KeyMapper getMapper() { if(mapper == null) { synchronized(Utils.class) { if(mapper == null) { mapper = new LocalMemoryMapper(); } } } return mapper; } The class KeyMapper is basically a synchronized wrapper to HashMap with only two functions, one to add a mapping and one to remove a mapping. When running in Tomcat 6.24 on my 32bit Windows machine everything works fine. However when running on a 64 bit Linux machine (CentOS 5.4 with OpenJDK 1.6.0-b09) I add one mapping and print out the size of the HashMap used by KeyMapper to verify the mapping got added (i.e. verify size = 1). Then I try to retrieve the mapping with another request and I keep getting null and when I checked the size of the HashMap it was 0. I'm confident the mapping isn't accidentally being removed since I've commented out all calls to remove (and I don't use clear or any other mutators, just get and put). The requests are going through Tomcat 6.24 (configured to use 200 threads with a minimum of 4 threads) and I passed -Xnoclassgc to the jvm to ensure the class isn't inadvertently getting garbage collected (jvm is also running in -server mode). I also added a finalize method to KeyMapper to print to stderr if it ever gets garbage collected to verify that it wasn't being garbage collected. I'm at my wits end and I can't figure out why one minute the entry in HashMap is there and the next it isn't :(

  • Outputting variable values in x86?

    Hello All- I'm working on a homework assignment in x86 and it isn't working as I expect (surprise surprise!). I'd like to be able to output values of variables in x86 functions to ensure that the values are what I expect them to be. Is there a simple way to do this, or is it very complex? For what it's worth, the x86 functions are being used by a C file and compiled with gcc, so if that makes it simpler that is how I'm going about it. Thanks for the help.
