  • Program to download .torrent file from a Magnet URI?

    I have a Torrent app running on my home server that has an outdated but pretty useful web interface. The one problem is that it doesn't take magnet links, only .torrent files. I'd like to continue using this and not have to bother with finding a different program. Given that magnet links are just a pointer to download the torrent file from the swarm, I'm hoping there's a program out there that will take a magnet link and spit out a .torrent only. I know I could put it into µTorrent and grab the file from the app's directory, but that's a bit roundabout, and I'd like something that will do it semi-unattented. Preferably for OS X, but Linux (or a web app) would work too.

  • Is there a Linux-compatible R/C simulator that works with real radios?

    My Dad flies radio-controlled (R/C) aircraft. He used to run a simulator called "RealFlight" which allowed him to connect his actual radio to his computer and fly simulated craft. He learned enough to fly actual planes, but he wants to move up from "trainer" aircraft to higher-performance craft. After some crashes, he'd like to go back to the simulator for a while. The catch: he's given up Windows and is now running Ubuntu. Question: is there an R/C flight simulator that Runs on Ubuntu? Allows you to connect your radio and use it to control the simulator, preferably through a USB port?

  • Connecting to internet via phone on Linux

    I have a Sony Ericsson C702 phone with a flat fee internet subscription (GPRS/UMTS). I'd like to connect my Linux (Kubuntu 9.04) laptop to internet via this phone, using bluetooth (I also have a cable connection but that's propietary, doubt it'll work). How can I do this, preferably via GUI / NetworkManager / the BT applet that comes with KDE? In Windows I use SE's PC suite software which works great, but is not available for Linux.

If I even install the newer version of libxml somehow: wget ftp://xmlsoft.org/libxml2/libxml2-2.7.2.tar.gz tar -xvf libxml2-2.7.2.tar.gz cd libxml2-2.7.2 ./configure make sudo make install then I am unable to get it to work in PHP - there is still old version: libxml Version => 2.6.26 libxml libxml2 Version => 2.6.26 libxslt compiled against libxml Version => 2.6.26 What else do I need to do to make the new version to work with PHP?

  • How do I restart a Windows XP upgrade?

    Is there a registry tweek to tell Windows Setup to start over? It tries to continue where it left off after I reboot. I can get to the Recovery Console. I tried to go from SP2-SP3. It failed, and I couldn't get to Safe Mode. I put in the SP1 disk (I don't have an SP2 boot disk, just the upgrade package.) It ran a couple minutes then gave me the error "the signature for windows xp professional upgrade is invalid" error code 800b0100. I rebooted to Safe Mode. I get to Safe Mode then say "Window XP Setup can't run under Safe Mode" press ok to restart. I put the SP3 disk back in, trying to get the "repair" option I didn't ever see putting in the SP1 disk, and it tried to continue the SP1 install - on the 4th step, and then gave the same signature error above. I need to get it to start over, so I can get to the repair option, to go back to SP2 (or install SP1 then add SP2 to it). Is there a registry tweek to tell Windows Setup to start over?

    I have a multi-boot Windows 7 (32bit & 64 bit) on my HP Notebook. Unfortunately, the Notebook screen has been trashed (due to daughter dropping it). So I have attached a second screen. On the 64 bit system, after windows has started, the logon screen comes up on the 2nd monitor just fine. On the 32 bit system, the logon screen still comes up on the Notebook monitor and I have to open the lid, and shut it so that it then switches to the attached screen. In both cases the display has been set to only display on the attached screen (ie if I "identify" the attached screen says: '1'). Is there any setting I can use to force the OS to use the attached screen? TIA, Paolo

    When automating a task, it is sensible to test it first manually. It would be helpful, though, if any data going to stderr was immediately recognizeable as such, and distinguishable from the data going to stdout, and to have all the output together so it is obvious what the sequence of events is. One last touch that would be nice is if, at program exit, it printed its return code. All of these things would aid in automating. Yes, I can echo the return code when a program finishes, and yes, I can redirect stdout and stderr; what I'd really like it some shell, script, or easy-to-use redirector that shows stdout in black, shows stderr interleaved with it in red, and prints the exit code at the end. Is there such a beast? [If it matters, I'm using Bash 3.2 on Mac OS X]. Update: Sorry it has been months since I've looked at this. I've come up with a simple test script: #!/usr/bin/env python import sys print "this is stdout" print >> sys.stderr, "this is stderr" print "this is stdout again" In my testing (and probably due to the way things are buffered), rse and hilite display everything from stdout and then everything from stderr. The fifo method gets the order right but appears to colourize everything following the stderr line. ind complained about my stdin and stderr lines, and then put the output from stderr last. Most of these solutions are workable, as it is not atypical for only the last output to go to stderr, but still, it'd be nice to have something that worked slightly better.

    I was using Ubuntu 9, then automatically updated it to 10, then the minimize, maximize and close buttons that used to be on top right were moved to top left. Among the three buttons, close was moved to the far left. Close is below Applications and above File. You have to look to the close button to close Windows now. Why?

  • How can I reinstall QoS Packet Scheduler if it was removed from the winxp installation by nLite?

    I have a WinXP SP3 installation modified by nLite. This particular installation was stripped off the QoS Packet Scheduler. I was advised to remove QoS because of the overhead it produces or something like that. Now, I read this lifehacker post about windows maintenance, and it says that on the contrary, by doing so I may have done more harm than good: Disabling QoS in Windows XP: Rumor had it that Microsoft had permanently tied up 20 percent of your net bandwidth for Windows Update. They didn't, and those who disable QoS, or IPv6, in XP actually end up with some pretty harsh connectivity problems. I tend to believe this, and now I seek a way to reinstall QoS. I tried to install it by going to network adapter properties - install - service, but there is no QoS there. I have the original, untouched WinXP SP3 cd. So, is there a way to bring back QoS into my WinXP installation, preferably without reinstalling windows from scratch?

In the official document http://tldp.org/LDP/abs/html/comparison-ops.html I can read that double quotes should appear every time... But what is the differences in the following examples: [ "$VAR" -eq "1" ] [ $VAR -eq "1" ] [ "$VAR" -eq 1 ] [ $VAR -eq 1 ] As I am curious, a took a look at Ubuntu init scripts in /etc/init.d and there are many usage of arithmetic comparison in it, at least [ "$VAR" -eq "1" ] and [ $VAR -eq 1 ] are used... but it seems no one really "knows" what is the official way to do it.     Windows 8.1 upgrade created a second recovery partition. Can I remove the original? Prior to this the partitions were Recovery, EFI, OS(C:), Data(D:). After the upgrade partitions are Recovery, EFI, OS(C:), Recovery, Data(D:). The first Recovery partition is 1023MB the second is 350MB The "Create a system image" tool selects the EFI, OS(C:), and the second 350MB Recovery partitions. The first 1023MB Recovery partition is not listed, I have to "assume" it is now redundant. The factory (HP) Recovery Partition was removed using the HP provided tool after creating recovery disks, and the D: partition created months ago.

  • picasa web albums poor image quality?

    Did anyone else notice the picture quality degrade after uploading to picasa web albums from Picasa 3.5 Mac? I uploaded them in the original setting which is 1600 by 1200 and did selected the option to not compress jpg quality. On picasa web albums however, I notice that the colors look faded and the picture are a bit grainy. Anyone have the same problems? Any alternatives to an album sharing site with easy upload from picasa or iphoto?

    When I open an iCal invitation (Mail Attachment.ics file) in Mac Mail.app sent to me from someone using Thunderbird, I receive the following error: The only solution that I've found to date is to save the Mail Attachment.ics file somewhere like the Desktop, open it in a text editor, and delete the blank lines at the beginning and end of the file. This problem appears to only happen when I'm receiving invitations from people using Thunderbird under Windows. Does anyone know of a better way to solve this problem? Is this a bug in Apple iCal, or is Thunderbird not meeting the iCal spec?     Hello, There are some rail road companies offering an internet connection to their customers. How can they do it? What kind of internet connection can they have on board a moving vehicle? Satellite connection? I think the train movement will displace a mounted dish and it also will have to be constantly moved around to find the satellite as the train makes turns. Speed isn't greater either. GSM connection - EDGE, UMTS, CSD? 3G coverage often is not an option in rural areas where train goes. These kinds of technologies doesn't offer good speed. WiMax? Wikipedia article on it says it could provide 40Mbps for long distances. Is that what they use mostly? Some kind of power line internet carrier?

I then decided to chmod 777 all the directories and try again but it still fails. Looking at the directories afterwards it seems that the new directories being created are not being created 777. By changing them I can get at least one step further before the error appears again. My question is does anyone know how to get round this? I am thinking that the new directories being created will require sudo privileges to have mv and create actions carried out, hence the permission denied errors. Can this be configured in Joomla? Or is there a way to specify that new directories created in /var/www/[site name] take 777 by default? any help greatly appreciated! EDIT: P.S. if anyone could give me a clue as to how the insert code feature works as well that would be great! Might make this post a bit more readable! EDIT2: Well I have had a bash at changing the permissions and ownership. sudo chown -R www-data:www-data /var/www/trbcp I then tried changing the whole /var directory (insecure I know but this is a test and dev server for me to find my feet on) to 777 and still getting permission errors. It seems to be error opening stream? Not a php guy so not sure what that is but could it be that permissions to run php script need to change? any thoughts greatly appreciated.
