  • Retrieving friend's likes from the Facebook Graph API

    - by Joe Frank
Howdy- I have been tooling around with the Facebook Graph API and successfully retrieved back a list of my likes, and a list of my friends (once I authenticated using OAuth). But what I really want to achieve is pulling back my friend's likes. When I try and do that, obviously using the same URL that I use to pull back my own likes but subbing the friend's user id for "me", I don't get anything back, unless they have installed the app as well. Then I get them no problem. To be clear, I can only see the likes of friends who have installed my application. So clearly I am running into a security/rights issue of some sort. I could see where this would be the case; you simply aren't allowed to see your friend's likes unless they have installed the same app. Fair enough, but then how is blekko.com doing it? I even tried using FQL without much luck. I suspect I am missing something totally obvious. Anyone had any luck with this? Maybe with the Javascript API or one of the other access methods? Thanks in advance for any guidance.

  • CSS refuse to obey

    - by Frank
    Hi, I'll make this short, I got this webpage : <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <link rel="Stylesheet" type="text/css" href="css/style.css" /> <link rel="Stylesheet" type="text/css" href="css/nav.css" /> </head> <body> <div id="header"> <ul id="navList"> <li><a href="#" id="navActive">foo</a></li> <li><a href="#">bar</a></li> </ul> </div> </body> </html> With this CSS style.css body { padding:0; margin:0; background-color:#000000; background-repeat:no-repeat; background-image:url('../img/bg.jpg'); } nav.css #navList { padding:0; margin:0; background-image:url('../img/menu.png'); list-style-type:none; padding:12px 150px; } #navList li { display:inline; } #navList li a { color:#bfbfbf; padding:14px 25px; text-decoration:none; } #navList li a:hover { color:#000000; background-color:#bfbfbf; text-decoration:none; } #navActive { color:#000000; background-color:#bfbfbf; } It looks like the CSS from the navActive id is never being applied... Could someone tell me why and/or suggest me a way to correct this. Thanks.

  • Class properties vs NSArray / NSDictionary

    - by Frank Martin
I want a custom class object to hold data and have somehow the feeling that creating about 80 properties is not the best way of doing it. Most of the properties would be bool values, so i'm thinking about creating Arrays (keys / values) or (probably better) a NSDictionary attached to the object for holding the data. Does that make sense or should i stay with the properties? Extra: Are there general pros and cons for the different approaches? And what keywords / concepts do i have to search for to find discussions about that somehow general question? Thanks in advance

  • Windows development on a Mac Pro

    - by Frank
Looking to do iphone, android, and possibly windows phone development on a Mac Pro. What are the pluses and minuses of using a Mac Pro and a dual boot. Unlike most, Windows 7 will be the primary OS since most supporting software will be done with Visual Studio 08/10 over the next year. I have found driver issues from a few years ago. Do any of these issues still exist?

  • Browse for folder can't see camera device

    - by Robert Frank
In Delphi 2010, I want to allow users to browse and select a folder. The folder is on a device (?) created by a DSLR: The folder is visible in the Windows Explorer as shown above. And, the folder is visible in a TOpenDialog, allowing them to browse into the folder and choose a file. Unfortunately, I have been unable to get either SHBrowseForFolder (code I found on the web but don't understand) or SelectDirectory to see the camera device or folder beneath it. (Side note: IMO, SelectDirectory is a far nicer UI, since the user can see the files in the folders while browsing.) I assume this has to do with the fact that the folder is in a device (?) created by the camera software. I've seen some tricks where you call TOpenDialog to browse for folders with '*.' and then ExtractFileDir on the result, but that's not robust or, IMO, a good UI. What I'm looking for is a "Browse for folder" that can see the same devices (including the camera device) the TOpenDialog & Windows Explorer can see. (Ideally, it would have the nice appearance like the one below!) Any suggestions? Image of a MS-Word's folder browsing in Win7. (I wonder if it looks this pretty in XP.)

  • How can I save shell output to a variable in LaTeX?

    - by Frank
I need to be able to execute a shell command through LaTeX [*] and have the resulting output available for use later on in the form of a LaTeX 'variable' (e.g., via a subsequent \newcommand command). If necessary a temporary file could be used to hold the output, although I would like to avoid this. I have been able to use \immediate\write18 to invoke a bash command before, but this was only used to write to a temporary file. [*] I realise that the -shell-escape flag must be set for this to be allowed

  • Get values from HTML in a multidimensional array and calculate values using PHP

    - by Frank Nwoko
    I have searched but could not get solution on this issue. I am working on an application which will generate unknown number of items and have users select the quantity from a drop down against each item. Eg. Item(s) | price | Select qty Rice 23 3 Beans 22 4 Eggs 52 5 ... ... ... unknown Please, how can I capture the above in an array and also calculate the total value for all selected items and corresponding fees? I have the following HTML code: <form id='form1' name='form1' method='post' action='item_calc.php'> <?php ..... while($t_row = mysql_fetch_assoc($get_items)) { echo "<p><label>$t_row['$item_name'] <input type='text' READONLY name='item_price[]' value='$t_row['$item_price']' /></label> <input type='text' READONLY name='item_fees[]' value='$t_row['$item_fee']' /> <select name="item_qty"> <option value="1"> <option value="2"> <option value="3"> <option value="4"> <option value="5"> </select> </p><p>"; } echo "<label><input type='submit' name='submit' value='Submit' /></label></p> </form>"; Please, how can I get item_price[] + item_fees[] * item_qty for all selected items? This is what I have tried: for ($i = 0; $i < count($_POST['item_price']); $i++) { // Do something here with $_POST['checkbx'][$i] foreach ($_POST['item_fees'] as $tkey => $tvalue) { //echo "Key: $tkey; Value: $tvalue<br>"; } foreach ($_POST['item_price'] as $pkey => $pvalue) { //echo "Key: $pkey; Value: $pvalue<br>"; } $total = $tvalue + $pvalue; } echo $total;

  • Consolidating separate Loan, Purchase & Sales tables into one transaction table.

    - by Frank Computer
INFORMIX-SE with ISQL 7.3: I have separate tables for Loan, Purchase & Sales transactions. Each tables rows are joined to their respective customer rows by: customer.id [serial] = loan.foreign_id [integer]; = purchase.foreign_id [integer]; = sale.foreign_id [integer]; I would like to consolidate the three tables into one table called "transaction", where a column "transaction.trx_type" [char(1)] {L=Loan, P=Purchase, S=Sale} identifies the transaction type. Is this a good idea or is it better to keep them in separate tables? Storage space is not a concern, I think it would be easier programming & user=wise to have all types of transactions under one table.

  • ipod app replacement-in-a-tab?

    - by Frank C
With the new media-library capabilities in the 3.0 SDK, I'd like to have a tab in my application to control the music that's playing. Not just pause and play (i'm aware that pressing the home button twice brings up controls for this), but also the ability to browse and queue albums/artists/songs/playlists. Basically a copy of the ipod app functionality. Any chance someone has already done this and made it freely available?

  • Why isn't the compiler smarter in this const function overloading problem?

    - by Frank
The following code does not compile: #include <iostream> class Foo { std::string s; public: const std::string& GetString() const { return s; } std::string* GetString() { return &s; } }; int main(int argc, char** argv){ Foo foo; const std::string& s = foo.GetString(); // error return 0; } I get the following error: const1.cc:11: error: invalid initialization of reference of type 'const std::string&' from expression of type 'std::string* It does make some sense because foo is not of type const Foo, but just Foo, so the compiler wants to use the non-const function. But still, why can't it recognize that I want to call the const GetString function, by looking at the (type of) variable I assign it to? I found this kind of surprising.

  • Is it possible to submit an update for an app on the AppStore without losing reviews?

    - by Frank Krueger
Whenever I submit an update for me app, the number of reviews visible for it drops to 0. If the customer bothers to click through they can see the previous versions' reviews... But the damage has been done. Since the app has 0 stars, I see a significant drop in sales. It takes the app a good week of earning new reviews to restore sales. I usually version the app as 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc. Is there something I can do during the update process to prevent losing reviews like this?

  • jQuery resize event for div children

    - by Frank Michael Kraft
$("div.content-left > *, div.content-main > *" ).live('resize',function(){alert("Size changed")}); does not work, because the resize event only applies to window resizes. But in my case the divs change size late, because the content is loaded late by an ajax request - or by clicking a panel menu. I definatley need to avoid to register on all individual events of the children (ajax, click), because that can be very many different events and then it is not maintainable.

  • Url rewriting : prevent to display xml

    - by Frank
Edit : I've got an aspx file (default.aspx) that loads a flash file (index.swf), but this swf needs a xml file (foo.xml) to load correctly. However, I would like to block any request aiming directly at the xml file. Is it possible, using a rewritting engine (isapi_rewrite for example) to detect if the xml file is being 'hotlinked' or being loaded by the 'index.swf'(inside default.aspx)? Any ideas? Thank you.

  • Dedicated hard disk for SE dbname.dbs files & dedicated ramdisk for /tmp files.

    - by Frank Computer
INFORMIX-SE 7.2: I would like to dedicate a hard disk, exclusively for my dbname.dbs directory which holds all the .dat and .idx files, and create a ramdisk for my /tmp temporary files in order to improve performance. I would also like to strip down the OS from any unecessary files and processes to minimize overhead for my dedicated application. Is this a good idea and are there any roadmaps for accomplishing this?

  • Clicking mouse by sending messages

    - by Frank Meulenaar
I'm trying to send mouse clicks to a program. As I don't want the mouse to move, I don't want to use SendInput or mouse_event, and because the window that should receive the clicks doesn't really use Buttons or other GUI events, I can't send messages to these buttons. I'm trying to get this working using SendMessage, but for some reason it doesn't work. Relevant code is (in C#, but tried Java with jnative as well), trying this on Vista [DllImport("user32.dll", CharSet=CharSet.Auto)] public static extern int SendMessage(IntPtr A_0, int A_1, int A_2, int A_3); static int WM_CLOSE = 0x10; static int WM_LBUTTONDOWN = 0x201; static int WM_LBUTTONUP = 0x202; public static void click(IntPtr hWnd, int x, int y) { SendMessage(hWnd, WM_LBUTTONDOWN, 1, ((x << 0x10) ^ y)); SendMessage(hWnd, WM_LBUTTONUP, 0, ((x << 0x10) ^ y)); } public static void close(IntPtr hWnd) { SendMessage(hWnd, WM_CLOSE, 0, 0); } The close works fine, but the click doesn't do anything.

  • Detect if class has overloaded function fails on Comeau compiler

    - by Frank
Hi Everyone, I'm trying to use SFINAE to detect if a class has an overloaded member function that takes a certain type. The code I have seems to work correctly in Visual Studio and GCC, but does not compile using the Comeau online compiler. Here is the code I'm using: #include <stdio.h> //Comeau doesnt' have boost, so define our own enable_if_c template<bool value> struct enable_if_c { typedef void type; }; template<> struct enable_if_c< false > {}; //Class that has the overloaded member function class TestClass { public: void Func(float value) { printf( "%f\n", value ); } void Func(int value) { printf( "%i\n", value ); } }; //Struct to detect if TestClass has an overloaded member function for type T template<typename T> struct HasFunc { template<typename U, void (TestClass::*)( U )> struct SFINAE {}; template<typename U> static char Test(SFINAE<U, &TestClass::Func>*); template<typename U> static int Test(...); static const bool Has = sizeof(Test<T>(0)) == sizeof(char); }; //Use enable_if_c to only allow the function call if TestClass has a valid overload for T template<typename T> typename enable_if_c<HasFunc<T>::Has>::type CallFunc(TestClass &test, T value) { test.Func( value ); } int main() { float value1 = 0.0f; int value2 = 0; TestClass testClass; CallFunc( testClass, value1 ); //Should call TestClass::Func( float ) CallFunc( testClass, value2 ); //Should call TestClass::Func( int ) } The error message is: no instance of function template "CallFunc" matches the argument list. It seems that HasFunc::Has is false for int and float when it should be true. Is this a bug in the Comeau compiler? Am I doing something that's not standard? And if so, what do I need to do to fix it?

  • Common Properties: Consolidating Loan, Purchase, Inventory and Sale tables into one Transaction tabl

    - by Frank Computer
Pawnshop Application: I have separate tables for Loan, Purchase, Inventory & Sales transactions. Each tables rows are joined to their respective customer rows by: customer.pk [serial] = loan.fk [integer]; = purchase.fk [integer]; = inventory.fk [integer]; = sale.fk [integer]; Since there are so many common properties within the four tables, I consolidated the four tables into one table called "transaction", where a column: transaction.trx_type char(1) {L=Loan, P=Purchase, I=Inventory, S=Sale} Scenario: A customer initially pawns merchandise, makes a couple of interest payments, then decides he wants to sell the merchandise to the pawnshop, who then places merchandise in Inventory and eventually sells it to another customer. I designed a generic transaction table where for example: transaction.main_amount DECIMAL(7,2) in a loan transaction holds the pawn amount, in a purchase holds the purchase price, in inventory and sale holds sale price. This is clearly a denormalized design, but has made programming alot easier and improved performance. Any type of transaction can now be performed from within one screen, without the need to change to different tables.

  • How to call a function from a shared library?

    - by Frank
What is the easiest and safest way to call a function from a shared library / dll? I am mostly interested in doing this on linux, but it would be better if there were a platform-independent way. Could someone provide example code to show how to make the following work, where the user has compiled his own version of foo into a shared library? // function prototype, implementation loaded at runtime: std::string foo(const std::string); int main(int argc, char** argv) { LoadLibrary(argv[1]); // loads library implementing foo std::cout << "Result: " << foo("test"); return 0; } BTW, I know how to compile the shared lib (foo.so), I just need to know an easy way to load it at runtime.

  • Is it possible to make this Flex/Flash application safe?

    - by Frank
I'm back with another Flex/Flash security question. I've already received some help from the community on this topic, but I'm still not quite sure this is the best way to do. Here's the thing. A flex web app, a lot of users (1000+), custom configuration of the application depending of the user group. Can I make this thing safe... or safer. For the moment, when a user comes to the application, there is only one configuration possible, but for the next version we've implented a multi-configuration protocol, this way : 1. The user connect to Default.aspx, server code process the windows credentials (whe are on intranet) and give the correct xml configuration file. 2. The flex app loads with the xml conf file as a flashvar and then the app 'builds' itself with the content of the xml file. As we know, since this is a flex application the swf is downloaded on the client computer and the xml file too. If more than one user connects to the app, from the same computer, the can possibly see the other xml file in the windows temp folder. The current directory of the application looks that way : Web site |-> default.aspx |-> index.swf |-> configAdmin.xml |-> configUserType1.xml |-> configUserType2.xml |-> com |-> a lot of swf and xml files I was first thinking making another directory (without read access for the client) containing all the configurations xml files, picking the right one, copying it to the client and deleting it afterwards. But it seems like I must let know the user know when downloading/deleting content on it's computer... I'm running out of ideas, so I hope you have some great ones. It's there are some design flaws (in the way the app is build, not in Flash :p) please share. I'm always looking forward to improve. Thanks Update : In browser Flash/Flex (without AIR that is) doesn't allow deleting file localy silently (on the client computer, where the application is). It's also not yet possible to get session data.
