  hi , i am designing a simple project based to do list. the idea is to define tasks under project ( no workflow - just "task is completed" or not is required. ) in a hirarchial way. i.e. each task has multiple task and that task may have other multiple task. a project can be said to be completed if all task under that project are completed. , i tought of using refrenceproeperty to create hirarchy , but could not figure out easy way ( which do not take more than 30 seconds to find all the children of a project and check weather it is completed or not ) . to detect if project is complete or not. how to design database for such job ? and also , if i need to copy the project in order to define another project , how to copy hierarchical data ?

• Google Analytics API - Tying Behavior to Specific Dates

  I am using the API to understand the performance of Adwords ad campaigns. I need to know how to attribute metrics back to the date dimension. For instance, for a given date, if I have 20 clicks, 18 visits, and 3 goal completions, does it mean that: 1) All of these actions happened on the day in question and are otherwise independent (meaning that the 3 goals could have been for people that clicked any time in the past 30 days, not who clicked on that day) 2) The on-site actions are a subset of the click activity on that day (i.e. on that day, 20 people clicked, 18 registered a real visit, and 3 completed a goal) If it is scenario 2, does that mean there is a need to refresh old rows every day? • Client Side Development - In Process/Completed Indicator Preferences?

  Hello, I have been doing more client-side development, managing the UI on the client and submitting data to the server via web service calls. I'm not looking for implementation details, but was curious on developer preferences for displaying an operation in process and what to display when completed or even failed. As a for instance, just for clarification sake, what if you are submitting a profile form's data to a web service. I want to display that something's happening to the user, and give them a message that the form submitted successfully. I've in the past used a twitter-style message (that appears at the top), modal dialogs... I was curious what worked for others and any advice (what did the users like/not like, etc.). Again, technical details aren't needed. Thanks.

• Google datastore stats

  I am querying the __Stat_Kind__ kind. It does not return me entities about kinds that currently exist in the datastore but it includes entities about kinds that I had deleted more than a week ago. I am not so much concerned about it returning me the non-existent kinds - the doc does mention this scenario after all. But I am concerned that it does not return me info about my current kinds. Is this a known issue or am I doing something wrong? To folks on the app engine team: Also, on the dev server neither __Stat_Kind__ nor __Stat_Total__ return any entities. Which means I need to deploy my app to appspot before I can test this behavior. It would be nice if the dev server did return some basic info. Thanks, Keyur

  I am about to develop a sort of web application using only static files (eg. html, js & css). Is there a way to start this sort of project in Visual Web Developer Express? I want to have all the niceties with intellisense, sulution explorer and whatnot but I don't want all of the ASP.net structure in the sulution. • Chrome plugin removal

  Hi, I'm writing an NPAPI plugin. In every webpage that the browser goes to, I inject my plugin with an object tag. Something like: <object id="myplugin" type="plugin-mime-type" > In some pages where i dont want it, after injection i remove it by finding the element using the id and doing a document.removeChild. From my logging i found that in firefox and opera, doing this automatically calls the plugin destroy method NPP_Destroy (NPAPI). But in chrome, it doesnt seem to call it. Is there any special way that i should remove a plugin in chrome that i am missing?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

And what I need to provide is just the url of the spreadsheet.   My application is used RavenDB-Embedded Unstable 1.2.2127 that it's intracted with ASP .Net Web API in the separated assemblies. When I use "UseEmbeddedHttpServer = true" on the document store, first time I send a request to RavenDB, it executes properly but when I try for the second time my application displays Raven Studio. However, if UseEmbeddedServer setting be removed then my application will be running without any problems. My RavenDB is configured with the following codes in data tier : this.documentStore = new EmbeddableDocumentStore { ConnectionStringName = "RavenDB", UseEmbeddedHttpServer = true } and implementation of Web.config have these settings in the service tier : <connectionStrings> <add name="RavenDB" connectionString="~\App_Data\RavenDatabase" /> </connectionStrings> Is there a setting I missed?

  I'm discussing some software design issues with a potential client and the idea of Web-to-Print technology has come up. We need users to be able to drag images from an image library to various regions defined by a template. Example: Images may go in box A, B, or C and text may go in boxes D or E. These templates would be setup Boxes A through E would be defined inside a template by administrators using some sort of editor. These templates would serve as a mapping from web-content to a PDF. Once users drag images and insert text in the appropriate regions of the template, the result will be converted into a PDF. Is this feasible these days with jquery & asp.net? That would be nice. If not, what would be the ideal solution?

  For the Google Chrome extension, I need to capture selected text in a web page and send to a web service. I'm stuck! First I tried a bookmarklet, but Chrome on Mac seems to have some bookmarklet bugs so I decided to write an extension. So I think the act of selecting outside the browser window is causing the text to not be seen by the browser as "selected" any more. Just a theory.... thoughts?

• Ideal way to deliver large data over Web Services

  We are trying to design 6 web services, which will serve another client component. The client component requires data from the web service we are implementing. Now, the problem is, there is not 1 WS we are implementing, there is one WS which the client component hits, this initiates a series (5 more) of WSs which gather data from their respective data stores and finally provide the data back to the original WS, which then delivers the data back to the client component. So, if the requested data becomes huge, then, this will be a serious problem for our internal communication channel. So, what do you guys suggest? What can be done to avoid overloading of the communication channel between the internal WS and at the same time, also delivering the data to the client component.

I want different variations to make different Javascript function calls, so I have variation content like: Variation 1 <script type="text/javascript">my_func('abc');</script> Variation 2 <script type="text/javascript">my_func('def');</script> However, when I preview my page, I can't verify that my_func(content){ alert(content); } is actually being run. Does GWO not support JS content, or am I missing something?

• Google App Engine - low-level datastore API flag?

  In my GAE-Java app, I'm using the low-level datastore API. Hence I don't need the GAE app instance to load any of the higher level data access libraries such as JPA, JDO, Data Nucleus, etc. Is there a flag that I can set to indicate that I don't want these libraries to be loaded? My motivation to do this is to reduce app instance startup time everywhere I can. Now I don't know if these libraries are loaded only on-demand or always. The dev environment logs messages related to data nucleus which seems to indicate that some of these libraries may be pre-loaded? I hope I'm wrong here. Thanks, Keyur

  I really like how Trulia.com has created their custom Google Map InfoWindows. What I like in particular about Trulia's implementation of the InfoWindow is: Extends beyond the map border: Google Maps InfoWindows are contained within the map border whereas Trulia's seems to be able to float on-top of the map Always displays InfoWindow near map Center: Google Maps InfoWindows always display the InfoWindow above the marker whereas Trulia InfoWindows always display the InfoWindow as close the center of the map as possible. For example, if the map marker icon is on the top of the map near the border, the Trulia InfoWindow is displayed below the map marker icon InfoWindow is displayed on mouse hover (not 'click'): With the default Google Maps InfoWindow, you have to 'click' the map marker icon to display the InfoWindow whereas Trulia InfoWindows are display simply by hovering over the map marker icon. I found the PdMarker, which is a 3rd party extension for Google Map InfoWindows that accomplishes most of the above bullets but not all. 1) It does not extend beyond the map border, 2) it does not work with Google Maps API version 3 (only version 2). Anyone know how Trulia is accomplishing their InfoWindow-like implementation on Google Maps API v3?

I'm working on our internal CMS and I noticed that we're getting live data back when doing debugging because of our web services instead of the dev data that I wanted. It doesn't do this on our dev CMS website, but we're trying to do all our development on localhost. Is there any way to set up an environment variable in our web config for the URL so that the CMS points to the dev database instead of live database that is referenced in the wsdl files?

  Hi I'm not sure if this is an appropriate question for StackOverflow. I have a friend show wants a simple "Brochure Ware" web site. I could make it for him but it would be better if he could manage it himself. Are there any services out there that allow a non-technical person to create and maintain a very simple site? I'm thinking just a few pages - contact, about, home with some photos and general info. He also wants to sell some stuff but I'm going to suggest he does this using EBay but the web site would be a handy reference for potential customers who want to know more about him and his services. I've been wondering how I might set the version number displayed for user-scripts in Chrome's extension tab So far the obvious methods have failed: // ==UserScript== // @version 1.1.5 // @uso:version 1.1.5 // ==/UserScript== I know Greasemonkey for Firefox doesn't use a version value, but since Chrome actually displays a version number, I thought it might. Perhaps this is a feature that has not been implemented? Or maybe it was never intended to be there, but it is there because extensions have version numbers, and user-scripts are currently installed as extensions? (I'm using the Linux beta, version: 4.0.249.43, by the way) Thanks. Edit: Seems this is listed as an unconfirmed bug in the Chromium bug database (Issue 30760)
