Assuming I have a user account with root privileges, I then run: sudo -u testuser cat /dev/input/mouse0 However, I get: cat: /dev/input/mouse0: Permission denied Running the same command as root provides the expected output (garbled output from the mouse driver). How can I create a user with root privileges?

  When you are using new tools that make also something at code level then it is good idea to check out what additions are made to code during compilation. Code contracts have simple syntax when we are writing code at Visual Studio but what happens after compilation? Are our methods same as they look in code or are they different after compilation? In this posting I will show you how code contracts look after compiling. We can see that there is counter that is incremented before checks and decremented after these whatever the result of check was. One thing that is annoying for me are null checks for exception1 and exception2. Is there really some situation possible when null is thrown instead of some instance that is Exception or that inherits from exception? Conclusion Code contracts are more complex mechanism that it seems when we look at it on our code level. Internally there are done more things than we know. I don’t say it is wrong, it is just good to know how our code looks after compiling. Looking at this example it is sure we need also performance tests for contracted code to see how heavy is their impact to system performance when we run code that makes heavy use of code contracts.

For example: Http://example.com/about-cats.html <title>About Cats</title> Furthermore, if that title were to be changed by the page's author, should the URL change to match and the old URL be redirected (301) to the new URL? Edit Also, if the pages author were to decide to revert his changes after several days, would it be right to remove the redirect and set up an new redirect from the amended URL back to the old URL?

  I have created a Study account which I use when doing anything school related work. It's purpose is to remove the distractions of my normal account, such as social media and news websites. I know /etc/hosts can be edited to block certain domains from being accessed, but this is for all Users, and I don't want to have to switch in and out of Admin to change it every time I want to focus. Is there any way to block these domains for specific Users or Groups?

• Evolution not downloading messages for offline use

  Even though I've selected "Copy folder content locally for offline operation" on my inbox and "Automatically synchronize account locally" in my account options, Evolution still only downloads headers for my inbox. When I click an email, its downloaded from the server. I want all my emails to be available to read offline - As far as I know this should be possible, so is my configuration that's wrong, or is it a bug?

  I am porting a site from an old version of a CMS to a newer version which has different page addressing techniques. I'm unfortunately not very good with htaccess at all. URL/blog/sublblog/article.html is now simply URL/article.html Unfortunately, this will destroy any linking programs they have going, and break all the old links. I need a way to use .htaccess say: if request = /(any subdirectory)/(string).html then redirect to /(string).html If that makes any sense.

  I have a laptop whose CD drive is not operational and is too old to boot from a flash stick. I have bought a new hard drive for it for which I have an enclosure. Is there a way to configure the disk as an external to my current ubuntu setup, copy some form of ubuntu on the hard drive, place the HD in the old laptop, and have ubuntu install ubuntu from there? Effectively what I am asking about is some sort of live cd that installs on itself (since the HD is writeable).

I remembered reading that this could be achieved by changing the user id of the account to something less than 1000 (I think I made it 990). So I did this. That worked fine, but now when I wanted to change it back, the name is not appearing in the list of user accounts in the users and groups menu under administration. How do I modify the phantom account?

• RAID1: can't replace faulty spare (marked again as 'faulty spare' within seconds)

  I got a problem that I cannot solve: Our fileserver runs XUbuntu and 3 RAID1s. One has a problem since monday: it consists of sdb and sdc. sdb was marked as faulty by mdadm for unknown reasons. I used --remove to remove it from the RAID and then to add it by --add. All was fine, re-syncing started but never got above 0% and after a few seconds, sdb was again marked as 'faulty spare' (and therefore the RAID degraded, but clean). So I saved the first 512 byte of the old sdb to a file, bought a new HDD of same size (4TB), shut down the computer and replaced sdb physically, switched the computer back on and wrote the 512 byte back to the new drive to have the same partition info as the old drive (both are the same type, from same company). But the new drive shows the same behaviour as the old: I can add, re-syncing starts and after a few seconds its marked as 'faulty spare'.   its been about a week i have changed my url from non www to www version it was done by my host provider .....now i want to ask how much time does google take to remove my sitename.com from indexing and replace it with www.sitename.com (site redirection has been already done by host provider )as it is still showing old ones my new urls are indexed but my main url www.sitename.com is not indexed...or so do i have to remove those old urls personally...its been already about 5-6 days?????

• Should users be deleted after inactivity on a website?

  When you have a social website or a website where you can register, would you eventually delete them after a certain time (after a year of inactivity) or would you rather keep their account records for ever? I know websites like Facebook have large amount of inactive, duplicated and fake accounts. So I'm wondering if after two years of inactivity it would be alright to send the account a warning email of deletion unless they log in. Just thinking of a clean and efficient database management or any implications this may cause to new potential users.

• ubuntu image size 732 mb - too big for cd

  i have an old pc that can't handle a boot stick install, so i have to create an actual, old fashioned boot cd. however, the image size for ubuntu 12.04 is 732mb, which is too large for cds, which can hold only 700mb. the maintainers of ubuntu 12.04 say the image size will never go over 700mb, and indeed, the download size seemed to be 689mb. Brasero says it won't burn the cd because the file is too big what's going on?

  Right now if I try to add a non-system user not in the university's Kerberos realm I am prompted for a Kerberos password anyway. Obviously there is no password to be entered, so I just press enter and see: passwd: Authentication token manipulation error passwd: password unchanged Typing passwd newuser has the same issue with the same message. I tried using pwconv in the hopes that only a shadow entry was needed, but it changed nothing. I want to be able to add a local user not in the realm and give them a local password without being bothered about Kerberos. I am on Ubuntu 10.04.   i have ubuntu 10.04 on my sytem, i run command apt-get install csh on the system and try to change the shell by command chsh -s but now the prob is when i try to login the system by ssh i am not able to login by any user account except one and try to change the user su - root it is showing cannot execute c: no such file or directory and look in the /etc/passwd file for root account in shell field C is written in place of /bin/sh help me out to restore the settings

  After upgrading my Ubuntu to the newest version 13.10, in the login interface, my account does not appear. I can login the guest session. There is also a remote login. I have no place to input my username to login my account.
