  • How do I do automatic data serialization of data objects in Haskell

    - by Adam Gent
One of the huge benefits in languages that have some sort of reflection/introspecition is that objects can be automatically constructed from a variety of sources. For example in Java I can use the same objects for persisting to a db (with Hibernate) serializing to XML (with JAXB) or serializing to JSON (json-lib). You can do the same in Ruby and Python also usually following some simple rules for properties or annotations for Java. Thus I don't need lots "Domain Transfer Objects". I can concentrate on the domain I am working in. It seems in very strict FP like Haskell and Ocaml this is not possible. Particularly Haskell. The only thing I have seen is doing some sort of preprocessing or meta-programming (ocaml). Is it just accepted that you have to do all the transformations from the bottom upwards? In other words you have to do lot of boring work to turn a data type in haskell into JSON/XML/DB Row object and back again into a data object.

  • update data in jqgrid

    - by griZZZly8
Hi! I uses jqgrid in this scenario: Grid gets JSON data from first url. If url returns correct JSON - grid displays that data. If url returns incorrect url, thet fires 'loadError' event of grid. In this event i want to change url of grid to url2 fnd get JSON data from thus new url. Here is my code. loadError: function(xhr, st, err) { $("#list").setGridParam({ url: '/new_url' }); $("#list").trigger("reloadGrid"); } But it doesnt't works.

  • How to build a RESTful API?

    - by Sharon Haim Pour
Hi friends, The issue is this: I have a web application that runs on a PHP server. I'd like to build a REST api for it. I did some research and I figured out that REST api uses HTTP methods (GET, POST...) for certain URI's with an authentication key (not necessarily) and the information is presented back as a HTTP response with the info as XML or JSON (I'd rather JSON). My question is: 1. How do I, as the developer of the app, build those URI's? Do I need to write a PHP code at that URI? 2. How do I build the JSON objects to return as a response? I hope I was clear enough. Thanks!

  • Assigning a MVC Controller property from Asp.Net page

    - by JasonMHirst
I don't know if I've understanding MVC correctly if my question makes no sense, but I'm trying to understand the following: I have some code on a controller that returns JSON data. The JSON data is populated based on a choice from a dropdown box on an Asp.Net page. I thought (incorrectly) that Session variables would be shared between the Asp.Net project and the MVC Project. What I'd like to do therefore (if this is possible), is to call a Sub on the MVC that sets a variable before the JSON query is run. I have the following: Sub SetCountryID(ByVal CountryID As Integer) Me.pCountrySelectedID = CountryID End Sub Which I can call by the following: Response.Write("http://localhost:7970/Home/SetCountryID/?CountryID=44") But this then results in a blank page - again obviouslly totally incorrect! Am I going about MVC the wrong way or do I still have a hell of a lot more learning to do? Is this even possible to do?

  • Long polling with NSURLConnection

    - by pix0r
I'm working on an iPhone application which will use long-polling to send event notifications from the server to the client over HTTP. After opening a connection on the server I'm sending small bits of JSON that represent events, as they occur. I am finding that -[NSURLConnectionDelegate connection:didReceiveData] is not being called until after I close the connection, regardless of the cache settings I use when creating the NSURLRequest. I've verified that the server end is working as expected - the first JSON event will be sent immediately, and subsequent events will be sent over the wire as they occur. Is there a way to use NSURLConnection to receive these events as they occur, or will I need to instead drop down to the CFSocket API? I'm starting to work on integrating CocoaAsyncSocket, but would prefer to continue using NSURLConnection if possible as it fits much better with the rest of my REST/JSON-based web service structure.

  • Jquery .Ajax error when trying to POST data in ASP.NET MVC

    - by GB
I am unable to access an action in my controller using .ajax. The code works on my development machine but as soon as I place it on the server it gives the error 401 Unauthorized. Here is a snippet of the code in the .aspx file... var encoded = $.toJSON(courseItem); $.ajax({ url: '<%= Url.Action("ViewCourseByID", "Home") %>/', type: "POST", dataType: 'json', data: encoded, //contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8", success: function(result) { Update: The only time this doesn't work is when I pass json data to the Ajax call, it works fine with HTML data.

  • dojo 1.4: difference in tree html rendering

    - by Fell
Hi, I have written an application using dojo 1.3 in which i have used the dijit tree. I am loading the tree with json data specified in the store which is in turn used by the tree model. In the 1.3 version the tree elements pick up the id directly from the json data. However in 1.4 the tree elements have their own id which is something like dijit__treenode_4. The id's that I have specified in json are unique and im not able to understand why these are not being used anymore. Please help me understand how this functionality has changed and how I can override the automatic id generation.. Thanks in advance, Fell

  • Random List of millions of elements in Python Efficiently

    - by eWizardII
Hello, I have read this answer potentially as the best way to randomize a list of strings in Python. I'm just wondering then if that's the most efficient way to do it because I have a list of about 30 million elements via the following code: import json from sets import Set from random import shuffle a = [] for i in range(0,193): json_data = open("C:/Twitter/user/user_" + str(i) + ".json") data = json.load(json_data) for j in range(0,len(data)): a.append(data[j]['su']) new = list(Set(a)) print "Cleaned length is: " + str(len(new)) ## Take Cleaned List and Randomize it for Analysis shuffle(new) If there is a more efficient way to do it, I'd greatly appreciate any advice on how to do it. Thanks,

  • Python: why does str() on some text from a UTF-8 file give a UnicodeDecodeError?

    - by AP257
I'm processing a UTF-8 file in Python, and have used simplejson to load it into a dictionary. However, I'm getting a UnicodeDecodeError when I try to turn one of the dictionary values into a string: f = open('my_json.json', 'r') master_dictionary = json.load(f) #some json wrangling, then it fails on this line... mysql_string += " ('" + str(v_dict['code']) Traceback (most recent call last): File "my_file.py", line 25, in <module> str(v_dict['code']) + "'), " UnicodeEncodeError: 'ascii' codec can't encode character u'\xf4' in position 35: ordinal not in range(128) Why is Python even using ASCII? I thought it used UTF-8 by default, and this is a UTF-8 file. What is the problem?

  • Twitter Search API Question

    - by supermogx
I'm using the twitter search API to get twitter posts based on some keywords, using AND and OR keyword. It works OK, but I seem to get problems using hashtags... For example : Not returning any results : http://search.twitter.com/search.json?q="%23ipad+AND+%23ipod"+OR+"%23joke+AND+%23funny"&rpp=100&callback=? Returning results : http://search.twitter.com/search.json?q="ipad+AND+ipod"+OR+"joke+AND+funny"&rpp=100&callback=? But there's results with #ipod AND #ipad because when I search only for #ipod, I can see a lot of posts with both hashtags. Example : http://search.twitter.com/search.json?q=%23ipad&rpp=100&callback=? P.S. %23 = # Any idea?

I am upgrading a Rails application from 2.2.2 to 2.3.5. The only remaining error is when I invoke total_entries for creating a jqgrid. • Initializing new instances of a class in a loop, how can I persist an assignment to an event handler

    - by Pydroid
This is a follow on question from http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3020960/why-is-my-prototype-function-not-returning-the-property-of-the-instance $.getJSON(myjson, function(data) { var json = data; for (i in json) { juuvies[i] = new Juuvy(i,json[i], font, keyfontsize, valfontsize, orbcol, orbkeycol, orbvalcol, paper); juuvies[i].juuv_it(); var mykey = juuvies[i].init_nodes(); juuvies[i].orb.node.onmouseover = function() { console.log(mykey);}; } }); And my init_nodes function, Juuvy.prototype.init_nodes = function() { return this.key; } At this point of time, I get only the last key in the loop, instead of a unique pass each time. Is there a way I can persist the assignment for the event handler?

  • Javascript: How to filter object array based on attributes?

    - by JGreig
I have the following JavaScript JSON array of real estate home objects: var json = { 'homes' : [ { "home_id":"1", "price":"925", "sqft":"1100", "num_of_beds":"2", "num_of_baths":"2.0", }, { "home_id":"2", "price":"1425", "sqft":"1900", "num_of_beds":"4", "num_of_baths":"2.5", }, // ... (more homes) ... ]} var xmlhttp = eval('(' + json + ')'); homes = xmlhttp.homes; What I would like to do is be able to perform a filter on the object to return a subset of "home" objects. For example, I want to be able to filter based on: price, sqft, num_of_beds, and num_of_baths. Question: How can I perform something in javascript like the pseudo-code below: var newArray = homes.filter( price <= 1000 & sqft >= 500 & num_of_beds >=2 & num_of_baths >= 2.5); Note, the syntax does not have to be exactly like above. This is just an example.

  • Scala loop returns as Unit and compiler points to "for" syntax?

    - by DeLongey
Seems like Unit is the theme of my troubles today. I'm porting a JSON deserializer that uses Gson and when it comes to this for loop: def deserialize(json:JsonElement, typeOfT:Type, context:JsonDeserializationContext) = { var eventData = new EventData(null, null) var jsonObject = json.getAsJsonObject for(entry <- jsonObject.entrySet()) { var key = entry.getKey() var element = entry.getValue() element if("previous_attributes".equals(key)) { var previousAttributes = new scala.collection.mutable.HashMap[String, Object]() populateMapFromJSONObject(previousAttributes, element.getAsJsonObject()) eventData.setPreviousAttributes(previousAttributes) eventData } else if ("object".equals(key)) { val `type` = element.getAsJsonObject().get("object").getAsString() var cl = objectMap.get(`type`).asInstanceOf[StripeObject] var `object` = abstractObject.retrieve(cl, key) eventData.setObject(`object`) eventData } } } The compiler spits out the error type mismatch; found : Unit required: com.stripe.EventData and it points to this line here: for(entry <- jsonObject.entrySet()) Questions Confirm that it is indeed the Gson method entrySet() appearing as unit? If not, what part of the code is creating the issue? I've set return types/values for eventData class methods Is there a workaround for the Gson Unit issue? Thanks!

  • updated validation example for web api

    - by MonkeyBonkey
I tried the validation example code for web api on the latest mvc 4 download and I'm getting some errors. Does anyone have an updated example of the ValidationActionFilter class. Here's the original code public class ValidationActionFilter : ActionFilterAttribute { public override void OnActionExecuting(HttpActionContext context) { var modelState = context.ModelState; if (!modelState.IsValid) { dynamic errors = new JsonObject(); foreach (var key in modelState.Keys) { var state = modelState[key]; if (state.Errors.Any()) { errors[key] = state.Errors.First().ErrorMessage; } } context.Response = new HttpResponseMessage<JsonValue>(errors, HttpStatusCode.BadRequest); } } } I'm getting an error on HttpResponseMessage The non-generic type 'System.Net.Http.HttpResponseMessage' cannot be used with type arguments Also it looks like I need to add a Json reference, but should I be using JSON.net instead? An example of this using Json.net?

  • jQuery .ajax request failing

    - by user1644808
I currently have a jQuery ajax request set up like this $(document).ready( function() { $.ajax({ url : "http://www.my-computer.com:51000/getJson", cache : false, dataType: "json", success : renderPage, error: handleError }) }); If I manually naviate to http://www.my-computer.com:51000/getJson, I see it returns a json string correctly, but with the above request, I always fall into "handleError" method, with textStatus "error" and not much helpful information. Can anyone help? Thanks! EDIT: sorry about the my-computer domain. this stackoverflow submission won't let me input localhost, so I put in an arbitrary domain instead. I've tried firebug, but had no luck in getting the json back.

  • handle an arrray posted with $.ajax (jquery) to a webservice

    - by burktelefon
I'm trying to post data to a webservice (asp.net 3.5), like below (two variants, one commented): var array = [3, 2, 5, 1, 7]; var jsonString = JSON.stringify(array); //var jsonString = '{ "firstName": "John", "lastName": "Smith", "age": 25, "address": { "streetAddress": "21 2nd Street", "city": "New York", "state": "NY", "postalCode": "10021" }, "phoneNumber": [ { "type": "home", "number": "212 555-1234" }, { "type": "fax", "number": "646 555-4567" } ] }' $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "WebService2.asmx/AddRoute", data: jsonString, contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8", dataType: "json", processData: "false", error: function(msg) { alert('error' + msg.toString); } }); So I need a matching webmethod to recieve it. Something like this: [WebMethod] public string AddRoute(/* xxx */) { //handle data } Could someone please elaborate on how I can fetch the data, where I've typed "xxx"? I would have thought "int[] array" would do the trick, but it's not working. Any help would be greatly appreciated :)
