• What situations does a Monostate pattern model?

  I know what both a Singleton or a Monostate are and how to implement them. Although I can see many uses for a Singleton, I can't imagine a situation where I would want to let the user create as many instances of my class although in reality only one really exists behind the scenes. Can anybody help me here? I know that for several reasons one should stay away from both patterns, but in theory, what kind of problems does the Monostate model? Thanks

  I don't understand Access Modifiers in OOP. Why do we make for example in Java instance variables private and then use public getter and setter methods to access them? I mean what's the reasoning/logic behind this? You still get to the instance variable but why use setter and getter methods when you can just make your variables public? please excuse my ignorance as I am simply trying to understand why?   I am porting some functionality from a C++ application to java. This involves reading non-modifiable data files that contain regular expressions. A lot of the data files contain regular expressions that look similar to the following: (?<=id="VIEWSTATE".*?value=").*?(?=") These regular expressions produce the following error: "Look-behind group does not have an obvious maximum length near index XX" In C++ the engine being used supported these expressions. Is there another form of regexp that can produce the same result that can be generated using expressions like my example as input?

  I am new to ASP.NET having some basic doubts. 1) The public assemblies are deployed in GAC.Even when i go for "Add Reference ", I can not point to c:\windows\assembly ( i hope it is not possible) .Still i need to refer the assembly from ..\Bin folder of the source project ( custom assembly).Is there any consideration behind it? 2 ) Why exe is not allowed in GAC ?

  Hi, I am working on this site philippdecor.com and I am having a difficulty in figuring out this css issue. When I on mouse over on "Main categories" that appears on the right side, it shows a drop down with links in it. Two things happens, 1) in IE(7) - the drop down hides behind another div 2) in both ie and ff, it pushes other div below that to go down and on mouse out, it looks fine. I am not sure which css property can fix this. please help me out code

  Hi, Senario: Masterpage with a UserControl and a child ASPX page In the past when using this senario I've used an Interface as a way to pass a value from the UserControl (embedded in a master page) to the masterpage code behind then consume that value in the child aspx page. My question is now that asp.net 4 have arrived is this still a good way to achieve this or is there another or perhaps better way to do it? I've read somewhere that perhaps "delegates" is perhaps another route to take. Any help much appreciated Lk
