  I was setting up a new machine for presentations and I was getting ready to install Visual Studio 2010 Express   and figured I'd go see if the Web Platform Installer (we call it "Web-P-I") had the new versions of VS2010 ready to go. If you're not familiar, I've blogged about this before. WebPI is a 2meg download that basically sets up your machine for Web Development and downloads whatever you need automatically.   I have Crystal Reports 2008. This is the full application, not the Crystal Reports extension embedded into Visual Studio. This morning I pulled a solution with many projects and many crystal report files into Visual Studio 2010 for the first time. This application originated in VS2003, migrated to VS2005/.NET 2.0, migrated again to VS2008 (still .NET 2.0) and now migrated to VS2010 (still .NET 2.0).   If you interested in a test drive of the technologies around the Wave 14 launch, take look at the VM made available from Microsoft. It is a very well rounded option to explore the new products. 2010 Information Worker Demonstration and Evaluation Virtual Machine Note:  It is important to understand you will need a system with Hyper-V to import this VM and get it off and working.  Also, make sure you keep a copy of the original unpacked VM as this is based on a trial version of the OS (time bombed) and there is a chance to rearm the VM, but you are better off either keeping the original files or taking a snapshot as soon as the VM is living in your Hyper-V environment.

  Apple a dévoilé la nouvelle version de XCode 4 aux développeurs présents à l'édition 2010 de la WWDC. Seuls les développeurs inscrits à la WWDC peuvent actuellement télécharger XCode 4 sur leur Mac. XCode 4 nécessite Mac OS X 10.6.4 Qu'apporte-t-il de neuf ? On ne sait pas encore grand chose, vu que tout ce qui se passe à la WWDC en dehors de la keynote est sous NDA. Mais, malgré la NDA, quelques bruits filtrent sur le net. Il semblerait que XCode 4 apporterait un meilleur support pour le versionning du code. Où on aurait une interface à la Time Machine pour merger son code facilement. • Prevent anonymous access to form and application pages in SharePoint 2010

  When you create a Publishing site that has anonymous access enabled, you will notice that anonymous users will not be able to access pages that reside in the “_layouts” virtual directory (e.g. http://siteX/_layouts/viewlsts.aspx). This is because the publishing infrastructure activates a hidden feature that prevents anonymous users from accessing these types of pages. However, if you were to create a site collection based of  Blank Site Template, you would notice that these pages are accessible by anonymous users. The fix is quite simple. There is a hidden feature that you would need to manually activate via stsadm. The feature is called “ViewFormPagesLockDown” (and is available in the Features folders in the 14 hive) To activate it: stsadm -o activatefeature -filename ViewFormPagesLockDown\feature.xml -url http://ServerName Once activated anonymous users will be promoted to enter credentials when they try to access form and application pages.   Now as the calendar year 2010 is close to its end, it's time for a quick wrap-up. The TV stations have shown all their flashbacks already in early December but we'll wait until end of the year ;-) I will post some pictures done by Roy or my throughout our travel in the next days. We've visited a lot of countries - and did more than 60 full-day Upgrade Workshops in 28 different countries: . But the most important thing: We'd like to say THANK YOU to all the wonderful people who'd attend to one of our upgrade workshops in Europe, Asia, Africa or Northern America.   Im just sitting on the train to work and had a funny experience with word 2010 that I thought id share. Im writing a document and all of a sudden like usually happens the train gets a little bit bumpy.  Word decides it doesnt like this (maybe it prefers to fly?).  Anyway to show its dissatisfaction with the journey it starts adding new rows to my table in the document all by itself. 5 pages of rows later I still cant workout how to stop itso have to kill word. • Microsoft DevDays 2010 Day #1

  It's been an eventful day here at Microsoft DevDays 2010, and the show hasn't even officially started! First item of business is to get to a hotel for rest and get some great food-not necessarily in that order. My flight was as good as one can expect- the guy next to me, Jim Anderson, was affable but not overly chatty, and he's a soundman on European tour with The Sonics.
