  • Report from OpenWorld Shanghai

    Oracle OpenWorld Shanghai 2013 was held July 22nd – 25th at the International Expo Center in Shanghai, China. The conference drew over 19,000 attendees from 44 countries. In addition, 580 CxOs attended the Executive Edge program, and 430+ partners attended the Oracle Partner Network Exchange. The conference included a number of sessions on Big Data, Business Analytics, Business Intelligence and Enterprise Performance Management delivered by Oracle, our partners and customers.  I had the pleasure to attend the conference and delivered three sessions focused on Oracle’s Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) applications. Each of my sessions was well-attended, and in a few cases was standing room only, so there is clearly a lot of interest in the China market in EPM. The EPM and BI demo pods in the DemoGrounds at the conference also received a lot of traffic. In addition to the conference sessions I delivered, I had several meetings with customers and partners in Shanghai.These sessions and meetings I attended made clear the interest that customers in China have in improving their planning, management reporting, financial reporting, and profitability management processes. In fact, with the China Ministry of Finance now standardizing on XBRL for annual reporting across multiple agencies in China, there is a great opportunity here for our disclosure management application.   • MSBuild script fails but produces no errors

    I have a MSBuild script that I am executing through TeamCity. One of the tasks that is runs is from Xheo DeploxLX CodeVeil which obfuscates some DLLs. The task I am using is called VeilProject. I have run the CodeVeil Project through the interface manually and it works correctly, so I think I can safely assume that the actual obfuscate process is ok. This task used to take around 40 minutes and the rest of the MSBuild file executed perfectly and finished without errors. For some reason this task is now taking 1hr 20 minutes or so to execute. Once the VeilProject task is finished the output from the task says it completely successfully, however the MSBuild script fails at this point. I have a task directly after the VeilProject task and it does not get outputted. Using diagnostic output from MSBUild I can see the following: My questions are: Would it be possible that the MSBuild script has timed out? Once the task has completed it is after a certain timeout period so it just fails? Why would the build fail with no errors and no warnings? [05:39:06]: [Target "Obfuscate"] Finished.   • Subquery max sequence number

    I'm hesitant to ask because I'm sure it's out there, but I just can't seem to come up with the keywords to find the answer. I'm stepping outside my boundaries by starting with subqueries (normally an Access user). I have a query that has TECH_ID, SEQ_NBR, and PELL_FT_AWD_AMT SELECT ISRS_V_NEED_ANAL_RESULT_PARENT.TECH_ID, ISRS_V_NEED_ANAL_RESULT_PARENT.AWD_YR, ISRS_V_NEED_ANAL_RESULT_PARENT.PELL_FT_AWD_AMT, ISRS_V_NEED_ANAL_RESULT_PARENT.SEQ_NBR FROM ISRS_V_NEED_ANAL_RESULT_PARENT GROUP BY ISRS_V_NEED_ANAL_RESULT_PARENT.TECH_ID, ISRS_V_NEED_ANAL_RESULT_PARENT.AWD_YR, ISRS_V_NEED_ANAL_RESULT_PARENT.PELL_FT_AWD_AMT, ISRS_V_NEED_ANAL_RESULT_PARENT.SEQ_NBR HAVING (((ISRS_V_NEED_ANAL_RESULT_PARENT.AWD_YR)="2013")) ORDER BY ISRS_V_NEED_ANAL_RESULT_PARENT.TECH_ID; What I want to return is add a subquery that selects only the max SEQ_NUM for each record, but I can't seem to get the syntax right. In the past I would cheat and have a separate query that first gave me the TECH_ID and max SEQ_NUM, and then have a second query that use the original table and the first query in a join to get the rest. How can I do this in one query? Example: TECH_ID SEQ_NUM PELL 1 1 4000 1 2 4000 1 3 5000 Using just the max of the sequence number still returns: 1; 2; 4000 and 1; 3; 5000 when I'm only wanting the latter.

  • Alt-Shift won't switch language in Microsoft Word

    I have Windows 7 RTM, Office 2007 SP1, and a computer with English and Hebrew languages installed. In most programs (e.g. notepad), left ALT-SHIFT switches from Hebrew to English and vice versa. In word, it also usually works, but sometimes pressing left ALT-SHIFT just won't do anything. Is this a bug in Windows ? Word?

  • I can't see headers or footers on Word 2007 unless in full screen view

    I have a machine on a domain that does not show any headers or footers when viewing documents in word 2007, unless I switch to full screen mode. Other computers can see the headers and footers no problems. here is a video of what is happening: http://showmewhatswrong.com/play/c6fIjBVWT (expires in 6 days - but to summarize, it just shows me flicking between all the view options in word, and only when in full screen view can you see the headers and footers) any help greatly appreciated!     Hi, I was wondering if it is possible, in Exchange server 2010, to disable a mailbox account, lets call it mailuser and if anyone sends a E-mail for [email protected] then it will send a mail back with some sort of standard "This E-mail is no longer in use. Please write to [email protected] instead" mail. I know I can create an "out-of-office" reply from the users outlook, but it would be so much faster to do it within the exchange server.   • Is there anything to open .docx documents on Linux (Ubuntu) ?

    Hi, My mother has some serious issues using Windows (viruses, spywares, and so on) and I seriously think about setting up Ubuntu as a replacement. (That would ease my "job" as well) The only concern I have is, is there anything to edit .docx (or .xlsx, .pptx, ...) documents on Linux ? Last time I tried OpenOffice (was 3 years ago), it was only able to open "old" MS Office documents (.doc, .xls, ...). Thank you very much for your answers !

  • Solver Add-in not loading correctly

    When I try to open solver from inside excel 2010, I get the error message: "Solver: An unexpected internal error occurred, or available memory was exhausted." The only way I have been able to get Solver to work is by going to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\Library\SOLVER\", and just opening the file called "SOLVER.xlam". If I open excel through that file, the program works fine. Is there a way to solve this issue?

Maybe I'm searching for it with the wrong terminology. Maybe it has to be done as a Named Range. I know this can be done. Anyone know how?

  • Project 2003 SP2 failing to install SP3

    I have Microsoft Project Professional 2003 installed (11.2.2005.1801.15, SP2). I have been trying to open a MPP file created in a newer version so need the converter, which is part of SP3. But when I try to install the SP3 package (as downloaded from Microsoft's site) I get an error message box: --------------------------- Project 2003 Service Pack 3 (SP3) --------------------------- The expected version of the product was not found on your system. --------------------------- OK --------------------------- Project (and Office) are licensed and otherwise work correctly. Any advice?

  • Word 2007 consistently crashes when I use my VPN

    Hi, My Office 2007 consistently crashes when I use it while connected to the VPN. This happens even with local files. When I try to paste stuff, it tries to connect to the printer (over VPN) and if I stop the process (which in itself blocks for about a minute), then Word 2007 is bound to crash a few seconds afterwords. My VPN is Check Point VPN-1 SecureClient Anyone knows what can be done with this problem?
