  • VM's, virtual networks and my home network.

    I want to create a small lab of VM's to test out networking with. I have two PC's running VMWare and I need the VM's on these two PC's to be connected to their own LAN. I am planning on bridging the VM's into my home network. My home network and PC's are in the 192.168.0.0 range, but I want my VM's to be in 10.1.0.0. If I do it this way (Bridging the VM's on both hosts into the network) will the VM's be able to communicate? Will my home router freak out seeing two different subnets? Is there another, easier way to connect the virtual lan's on two vmware workstations together?

  • Network Share unavailable after DNS Change

    Hi, I have a server, called Server1 with various network shares on it. Our users map to this share using \\Server1\FileShareName1. During a DR Test, we rerouted all network traffic from Server1 to Server21. All folder shares are set up on Server21. We were hoping the the network shares would still be accessible using \\Server1\FileNameShare1, unfortunately, they are not. Does anyone know why this is happening? This is a Win2003 Environment, and DNS was flushed. I confirmed that IP addresses are matching between the two servers. Any help or insight is much appreciated.

  • Server 2003 Filter mobile devices via MAC

    At one of my client's sites I need to keep my users unauthorized devices off the wireless. They all know the SSID and Password because many of them have laptops that need the wireless. I'm running out of IP address's and we have sent out numerous emails asking them to stay off, but like most users they ignore IT's email. I'm currently running Server 2003 as the GC/DC (but have 2008 servers in place) and 2 Netgear WNAP320. I've seen several posts similar to what I'm looking for but they seem to deal with Linux. My question is how do I go about doing this without migrating (scheduled for the end of the year) to a new server and is it possible to do this within Server 2003? Thanks msindle

What I'm looking for are to have the same settings on the Network and Sharing Center, to have the Turn on network discovery "on" for both the private and guest/public within the Control Panel.   • Connect to server in VMWare player while host is not connected to a network

    Hello, I have a linux server VM on my host machine using VMWare player and if I'm on a network, I can connect to the web server on the VM via a web browser. However, I tried to do the same while I was disconnected from a network and I couldn't. The networking is set to Host-only and I did use dhclient/ifconfig to make sure that yes, I did have an IP address assigned to the VM. While I can work around this, the purpose of the VM is to allow us to demo our app from any machine and that machine may not be connected to a network. Thanks.

  • Why does pinging 192.168.072 (only 2 dots) return a response from 192.168.0.58?

    I mistakenly missed the dot off of an IP address and typed in 192.168.072. To my surprise I connected to a machine at 192.168.0.58 If I ping 192.168.072 I get responses from 192.168.0.58. Why is this? I'm on a Windows PC on a Windows domain. If I ping 192.168.72 I get a response from 192.168.0.72, so it seems the 0 in 072 (in my original mistake) is significant.   • Connecting via url to a server that is on the same network as me

    Good day, I'm having problems with the ftp server I've just set up. I've already managed to configure my modem and wireless router to open up port 21 and setup ftp in my server. But It seems that when I try to connect to it when I'm in the same network as the server via URL, (ftp://mydomain.com) it redirects me to the modem's web interface. But then when I try to connect to it outside the network using a different internet connection. It succeeds. It also succeeds when I'm in the same network and I go to ftp://192.168.., the server's local IP. Am I supposed to adjust something in the modem or router? Or is this a different problem altogether? BTW I'm using Windows Server 2008 r2 as my server's OS and using IIS for ftp.

But on executing this command it get the error C:\Users\user>netsh wlan refresh hostednetwork rambo123 Invalid value "rambo123" for command option "data". Usage: refresh hostednetwork [data=]key I have no idea what is wrong with this command.

This is a question about the definition of a network from the OSI / TCP/IP model point of view: From one point of view, those are two L2 networks connected with a bridge. From another point of view, this is one L3 network, that can have a common L3 address space (like 10.1.1.0). PS If this question is too dumb, please move it to Superuser.

    I have two routers, one with dhcp turned on and the other with it off. this is a functioning home network. Now, I am trying to integrate into it a windows server. Should the windows server be doing the dhcp and dns work? And if so, what will this mean for the existing network? Will I need to reconfigure this? I am currently installing server 2003 onto my server machine. It is connected up to the network on the main router with dhcp. Any words of advice?

  • Network Service Account not Inherited in ACL

    I have a problem with files that are being moved into a folder that is set to replace permissions on child objects for the Network Service account. The process is that a media file is uploaded to a website, and is encoded by a piece of software. This moves the file to a folder but for some reason the files that get moved there don't inherit the Network Service account in security permissions. If I manually move a file into the folder the permission is inherited. I have used the effective permissions tool to check the Network Service account security permissions on the parent folder but this shows that there is nothing overriding it - the account has full permissions. Can try and supply more info if required, but any answers grealty appreciated!

    I have installed windows server 2003 and configured Domain controller (domain name - xyz.com) and DNS service. for that I have configured fully qualified domain name as server.xyz.com also I have installed apache tomcat with port 8080 on that server and accessed link successfully using "http://localhost:8080", "http://ip address of server:8080", "http://server.xyz.com:8080". but its working for local machine, and when I tried to access it from another machine in same network using "http://ip address of server:8080" its worked for me. but when I tried it using fully qualified domain name i.e. "http://server.xyz.com:8080" it's giving me error, "Could not connect to server.xyz.com" Please guide me getting this setup done. I need to be able to access this link "http://ip address of server:8080" as "http://server.xyz.com:8080" outside my network Any suggestion are highly appreciated..

  • Vista Home Premium won't connect to network.

    I deinstalled some software (e.g. some Toolbars for IE and Norton security suite, because the free trial period of 60 days is run out and so i want to switch to microsofts free security essentials). But now i cannot connect to the network again: Neither over LAN nor over WiFi. Neither with standard DHCP ON (sets a 169.254.x.y address) nor with fixed IP-Address. No error during changing the settings. Ping to the Gateway e.g. doesn't work and gives "generall failure". The DHCP-Client sets no IP-Address. There is allways only 'local access' on every network-connection. i ran out of ideas, please help. UPDATE per 2011-03-11: I followed each and every hint but nothing changed. I did a research on microsofts homepage through all the sites belonging to network but nothing helped. What can i do next?

    I had a server in a hosting company and I took it home. I need to connect him to a local network (not wifi) and access to the server from another computer in the network via browser, like I did it when it was in the hosting company. I don't have any knowledge in linux, I just know how to type in the command line :) I thinks all the IP configuration of the server is one big mess, because it passed from more then one hosting company to another... I tried a lot of tutorials that I found in the web, but nothing works - mainly because I don't know how to check if I did something wrong.   • Trouble Extending Network with Apple Airport Extreme (PC won't connect with Ethernet)

    So I have an Apple Airport Extreme base station that I use to create a wifi network at my house. But on a separate story from this station i have a PC (running Windows 7) that does not have a wireless card. Luckily, I have another Airport Extreme Base Station, so I figured I'd have my second station "extend" the existing network. I asked Apple if this was possible, which it was, and walked through the setup wizard to extend the network. Then I ran an ethernet cable from the Station to my PC. However the PC refuses to connect to the Internet. It says it can access the network, "Unidentified Network (Limited Connectivity)", but that's it. It tells me that my computer does not have an IP address. I tried running the cable to another computer (my Apple MacBook Pro) and got a similar error. Any thoughts?

    How can i get the LAN IP-address of a computer using Java? I want the IP-address which is connected to the router and the rest of the network. I've tried something like this: Socket s = new Socket("www.google.com", 80); String ip = s.getLocalAddress().getHostAddress(); s.close(); This seem to work on some cases, but sometimes it returns the loopback-address or something completely different. Also, it requires internet connection. Does anyone got a more accurate method of doing this?

    Say I carry a Wi-Fi enabled phone or laptop through an area where there are WAPs. Assuming that I don't actively try to connect to them or otherwise interact with them, is it possible for the owner of that WAP to know that I was there? I'm asking this in the context of my earlier question: Looking for MACs on the network I was talking with a friend about my newfound ability to detect phones (and other devices with MAC addresses) on the network, and he pointed out that it might be useful to detect unknown phones on the network; I could use that data to track down anyone who was in my house and brought a Wi-Fi phone with them. So, if I set up a logging fake WAP with no security or encryption, can I glean any useful information about the devices that come into the house? Assuming that the thief doesn't actively try to connect...

I've searched among the properties specific to each contact from the Address Book and I even had a look at the Address Book database, but I couldn't identify which property or field from the database indicates which are the favorite numbers. Since "Phone" is an application installed by Apple on the iPhone I was expecting to find such a property in the database. However, I think that it might be possible that this application stores the favorite numbers independently of the Address Book database.   • WD MBWE II (White Strip Light) 2TB - unable to access data

    I have a WD MBWE II (White Strip Light) 2TB - (WD20000H2NC-00) Was working fine until a few days ago. I guess there was a power failure and after that I am unable to access the 'Public' or the 'Download' folder anymore. I have been searching for answers everywhere but came up empty handed. Web GUI still works, SSH works. I hooked up both the drives on my PC and UFS Explorer sees the drive. But so far I am unable to retrieve any of my data. I do not remember what RAID setting I used when I first got the drive. I can see from GUI that it is set as "Stripe". The drive contains 10 years of family pictures which I really do not want to loose. Sadly and stupidly, I didn't even keep a backup of this drive. Can somebody please help or point me in the right direction. Thank you in advance for your help. Disk Utility on Ubuntu reports 1405 bad sectors on one drive. How can I retrieve my data? Please help.     Hiding a user by checking the "hide from exchange address lists" from exchange management console is not working. The user still shows up in GAL. When I ran Get-Mailbox -Identity _user_ | FL I got HiddenFromAddressListsEnabled : True So the check-box is working but the user still shows up. It's been over 3 weeks since hiding the user so it's not a time issue. This is what I have tried: Using Outlook in online mode Using OWA Regenerating GAL Un-checking then re-checking the "hide" check-box

  • Problem with Macbook air automatically not acquiring free wifi network dns or router address

    I have this problem when my macbook air sometimes does not connect to free wifi hotspots. When the problem happens and I try to run the diagnostics, it normally gets to yellow network settings tab. It seems that it for some reason does not acquire automatically the router or dns address. Sometimes after I shut it down and restart it magically connects to the wifi hotspot but it is very inconsistent. Anyone knows a fix for this problem?

  • Access denied to mysql cause by invalid server hostname bind address

    I cannot login to mysql using the terminal. [root@fst mysql]# mysql -h localhost -u admin -p Enter password: ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'admin'@'localhost' (using password: YES) I am sure I have the correct password. The mysql is also running when I check status. The mysql database is also present in the directory /var/lib/mysql/. The host host.myi, host.myd and host.frm are present. By the way this a related to question on my previous problem MySQL server quit without updating PID file . Initially the problem arise when the root directory was full. To be able to login to directadmin and start mysql, I added a soft link of the /var/lib/mysql/ to /home/mysql. Since my database used up the most of the root directory. The root directory has 50Gb and /home has 1.5Gb. Somehow the /var/lib/mysql/idbdata1 is corrupted. So I move it to another location. Now, I can start the mysql server but I cannot login into it.
