  • Objective C memory management question with NSArray

    I am loading an array with floats like this: NSArray *arr= [NSArray arrayWithObjects: [NSNumber numberWithFloat:1.9], [NSNumber numberWithFloat:1.7], [NSNumber numberWithFloat:1.6], [NSNumber numberWithFloat:1.9],nil]; Now I know this is the correct way of doing it, however I am confused by the retail counts. Each Object is created by the [NSNumber numberWithFloat:] method. This gives the object a retain count of 1 dosnt it? - otherwise the object would be reclaimed The arrayWithObjects: method sends a retain message to each object. This means each object has a retain cont of 2. When the array is de-allocated each object is released leaving them with a retain count of 1. What have I missed?

    Trying to grasp Prototyping in Javascript. Trying to create my own namespace to extend the String object in JavaScript. Here is what I have so far (a snippet): var ns { alert: function() { alert (this); } } String.prototype.$ns = ns; As you can see, I am trying to place what will be a series of functions into the ns namespace. So I can execute a command like this: "hello world".$ns.alert(); But the problem is, the this doesn't seem to reference the text being sent (in this case, "hello world"). What I get is an alert box with the following: [object Object] Not having a full grasp of the object-oriented nature of JavaScript, I am at a loss, but I am guessing I am missing something simple. Does anyone know how to achieve this? Thanks -

  • I asked a question about arrays before, but this one won't compile

    I asked about this array a little while ago, and I can't see what the problem is. Too tired. What have I done wrong? Basically, I am taking a string array and trying to check to see if it contains numbers or an x (ISBN number validation). I want to take the number from a given input (bookNum), check the input, and feed any valid input into a new array (book). At the line 'bookNum.charAt[j]==book[i]' I get the 'not a statement error'. What gives?     Hi guys, I have this thing that i need to do and some advices will be greatly appreciated. I have a Sql server table with some phone calls.For each phone call i have the start and end time. What i need to accomplish: a stored procedure which for a certain period of time, let's say 5 hours at a x interval, lets say 2 minutes returns the number of connected calls. Something like: Interval Nr of Calls Connected 01-01-2010 12:00:00 - 01-01-2010 12:05:00 30 01-01-2010 12:05:01 - 01-01-2010 12:10:00 10 ............. Which will be the fastest way to do that?     I have a table w/ 3 columns: name, phone, date. I have 3 indexes: 1 on phone, 1 on date and 1 on phone and date. I have the following statement: SELECT * FROM ( SELECT * FROM people WHERE phone IS NOT NULL ORDER BY date DESC) as t GROUP BY phone Basically, I want to get all unique phone numbers ordered by date. This table has about 2.5 million rows but takes forever to execute....are my indexes right? UPDATE: My EXPLAIN statement comes back with 2 rows: 1 for primary table and 1 for derived table. It says I am using temporary and using filesort for my primary table. For my derived table, it says my possible keys are (phone), and (phone, date) but it is using filesort.

  • Structure question over Local/Remote Services, Broadcast Receivers, and Intent Services

    I'm writing an android app that has a standard activity, but also needs to monitor incoming/outgoing calls and texts at all times. In addition, the app needs to notify users of information once a day without having the activity open. The information it notifies users of is stored in a database, so communication with the activity is not necessary. I've been researching for a week and still can't decide how to go about doing this. My instinct tells me I need a remote service that has a constantly running broadcast receiver, but every remote service example I see is overly complicated. Could anyone help me better understand what steps I need to take? Thanks in advance.

    I'm trying to build a pager where it's just Next / Previous buttons that call a jquery function that post a JSON request. Inside the function, the current page "index" is retrieved from a hidden field and passed to the controller. Inside the controller, I reset the index if I'm on the last page of data. How would I pass the new index value back to the view? Or is there a better way to do what i'm trying to do? Thanks

    Hi guys, I've just updated my nexus one to 2.2...now all of my (own and some from the market) apps throw exceptions and were closed... It's weird, in the app i'm developing atm, there it displays only my start page with buttons, but when i tap on one button to fire an intent to another activity my app gets closed with an exception. Yesterday before the update everything worked fine... The same thing in my emulator: I have two devices, one with API level 7 and one with level 8...Level 7 worked fine, but level 8 killed my app :( What is the problem and how can I solve this? I'm desperatly trying to get it working again :( I hope someone can help me fixing this

    I would like to create a StringVar() that looks something like this: someText = "The Spanish Inquisition" #Here's a normal variable whose value I will change eventually TkEquivalent = StringVar() #and here's the StringVar() TkEquivalent.set(string(someText)) #and here I set it equal to the normal variable. When someText changes, this variable will too... HOWEVER: TkEquivalent.set("Nobody Expects " + string(someText)) If I do this, the StringVar() will no longer automatically update! How can I include that static text and still have the StringVar() update to reflect changes made to someText? Thanks for your help.

  • Question about architecting asp.net mvc application ?

    I have read little bit about architecture and also patterns in order to follow the best practices. So this is the architecture we have and I wanted to know what you think of it and any proposed changes or improvements to it - Presentation Layer - Contains all the views,controllers and any helper classes that the view requires also it containes the reference to Model Layer and Business Layer. Business Project - Contains all the business logic and validation and security helper classes that are being used by it. It contains a reference to DataAccess Layer and Model Layer. Data Access Layer - Contains the actual queries being made on the entity classes(CRUD) operations on the entity classes. It contains reference to Model Layer. Model Layer - Contains the entity framework model,DTOs,Enums.Does not really have a reference to any of the above layers. What are your thoughts on the above architecture ? The problem is that I am getting confused by reading about like say the repository pattern, domain driven design and other design patterns. The architecture we have although not that strict still is relatively alright I think and does not really muddle things but I maybe wrong. I would appreciate any help or suggestions here. Thanks !

    My iPhone app was rejected with the following note: "The following non-public APIs are included in your application: Spi Symbols __memset_chk __memmove_chk" These symbols appear in a small number of apparently cocos2d related object files: Grid.o Primitives.o TextureAtlas.o Curiously, this app had already been approved under the previous SDK, but under 3.2 it's being rejected, though that may have nothing to do with it. I'm not at all sure how to resolve this and appreciate any help anyone can offer. Thanks.

  • beginner's question about CSS

    Hello, I am creating a website and i want to allow personalization to individual users upto some extent like changing font family, background color etc. The problem with this is that, my default css file that i load has already default classes for everything. Now when i fetch the background color from my database, then if there is null value for background color then default css class of mystylesheet.css should be loaded and if the value is not null, then i want to override this with my default css. How is it possible? Thanks in advance :)
