  • JavaScript library not working in IE, can't see error information.

    Hi there. I have been writing a JavaScript library for a few weeks now and it works brilliantly in Firefox, Chrome and Safari. I had not tested it in IE until recently. I do not own a Windows box so after testing it on my friends and realising it wasnt working I started going over my code for things that could be causing it to break. So far I have found nothing. I could not find any descriptions of the errors in the browser while I was there either. So I wondered if anyone could run my test script in an IE browser (6, 7 or 8) and let me know any information they can find as to why it crashed. Please ignore any information saying it works in IE6, I put that up there after testing it through http://ipinfo.info/netrenderer/ I just assumed it was working because I could set transparency and size via my script and see it run in this tool. Here is the link to my GitHub repository: https://github.com/Wolfy87/Spark If you download it and run spark.html it will attempt to run all of my functions from the library. So if anyone could be kind enough to run it in IE and either let me know what errors they are getting and possibly how to fix them then I will be extreamly grateful. Thank you in advance.     I just wonder is there's any way to fire any event via IE's event-triggering implementation - fireEvent. I've tried to use it but failed with all event except click. The only reason i've get interested with this issue it curiousity, thus, any answers like "just do not trigger events, it is a bad idea" - all such answers would be considered, well...not full))) thanks in advance

  • What's the most efficient way to manage large datasets with Javascript/jQuery in IE?

    I have a search that returns JSON, which I then transform into a HTML table in Javascript. It repeatedly calls the jQuery.append() method, once for each row. I have a modern machine, and the Firefox response time is acceptable. But in IE 8 it is unbearably slow. I decided to move the transformation from data to HTML into the server-side PHP, changing the return type from JSON to HTML. Now, rather than calling the jQuery.append() time repeatedly, I call the jQuery.html() method once with the entire table. I noticed Firefox got faster, but IE got slower. These results are anecdotal and I have not done any benchmarking, but the IE performance is very disappointing. Is there something I can do to speed up the manipulation of large amounts of data in IE or is it simply a bad idea to process very much data at once with AJAX/Javascript?

  • CSV file download ignored in ie8/9

    I have some code in a button click event which gets a csv string from a hidden input and writes it to the response as a CSV file. This work fine in Chrome, Firefox, ie7, ie9 in quirks mode. However it does not work in ie8 or ie9 default. Looking at this in fiddler the csv is being written to the response but the another get request is being made immediately after and the page reloads.   • Background image flickering when mouseover - IE.

    Hello everyone, I have a contact form and I added an image as a background. The background image is flickering when I move the mouse over the fields in IE(6,7,8). If I remove the contact form (made with divs) everything is fine. I tried to build the form with table and I have the same problem. Any solution? Every idea is welcomed! Thanks!

The images are in a folder on the server and I'm using jQuery 1.3. any ideas? Much appreciated.

  • Why does Microsoft's IE even exists?

    For real what is the point? Why can't it display pages properly like Chrome, safari or Firefox? If you want to make a web application (modern 2.0 site) that supports IE you will end up almost doubling your coding time as IE has its own interpretation of things. PLUS they just keep on changing how it renders pages from version to version (5,6,7,8) unbelievable. Microsoft hates web designers. i used to handle rendering problems with extra JS scripts and CSS files but i had enoughs of this $hit all over my pages: <!--[if IE]> .... <!--[if IE 8]> .... <!--[if IE 7]> .... <!--[if IE 6]> .... No more IE support for any of my projects, So you guys think im exaggerating or IE is really a pain in the @@$?

  • Making IE "forget" information entered in form when using back button.

    I have a page with a form where many of the fields are populated from variables passed in the URL. Those fields are disabled (NON-EDITABLE) and are only there for the user to view. The remaining fields require user input and are NOT disabled (EDITABLE). When the form is submitted a confirmation page comes up. It may be the case that the user needs to submit several of these forms where the NON-EDITABLE information is identical from form to form, so being able to go back to the form page from the confirmation page would save a lot of time. The way I want this to work is when a user presses the back button all the NON-EDITABLE fields are populated, but the EDITABLE fields are blank. This is what Firefox is doing, but IE8 is does not "forget" what has been entered in the EDITABLE fields. To disable the cache the following appears at the beginning of my page AND at the end of my page. <head> <meta http-equiv="Pragma" content="no-cache"/> <meta http-equiv="Cache-Control" content="no-store"/> <head/> What more must I do to make IE forget what was entered in the EDITABLE fields when the back button is pressed? All of my pages are generated with PHP if that matters. EDIT: It appears to me that this is a problem of IE caching my page even though I have told it not to. Are my meta tags correct? Do I need to do something else to prevent IE from caching my page?

  • Deselect all options in Multiple Select with 1 option

    Hello, I currently have the following js code function clearMulti(option) { var i; var select = document.getElementById(option.parentNode.id); for(i=1;i<select.options.length;i++) { select.options[i].selected=false; } } and function clearAllOpt(select) { select.options[0].selected = false; } The first one deselects all options in the multiple select when called and the second clears the first option whenever anything else is selected. The need for this is that the first option is for All. This all works fine and dandy in FF, but in IE8 nothing happens... any suggestions on how to get this to work in both? Thanks in advance.

  • Can't get jQuery and IE to be friends

    Using jQuery and the Cycle plugin. Runs flawless in Safari, Chrome, Firefox, and the latest version of Opera. Won't run in older versions of Opera, and of course, IE. I know its running Java, because its picking up the rollovers. This is driving me batty. Hopefully its something simple.   • Does IE6 Really not Allow Me to set width/height from left/right/top/bottom???

    Building a site super quick and having it work on all my Mac browsers, I thought I'd take a gander on a friends old dell laptop with Windows XP and IE6. Nothing looks remotely correct. It's because I used lots of left/right/top/bottom (constraint) declarations to size elements proportionally to their parent's size (I didn't use percent sizes because the percents refer to the parent's size before margins and padding are applied, left/right/top/bottom refer to them after with position:absolute. I'm asking about that here :)). I've read lots these past few weeks on how horrible IE6 (and IE) is in general, but because of all the reasons people say to support it (large market share and the fear of installing better software), and because half the people in the company we're building a site for use IE6 (getting them to upgrade to Chrome slowly but surely), I thought if I could just get IE6 to render my constraints, that might help. So I am messing around with simple layouts here, and they work fine in my latest versions of Firefox, Safari, Chrome, and Opera, but IE6 is basically saying: If you haven't set a width or height on me, I'm assuming it's zero. But position:absolute; left:0px; right:0px; top:0px; bottom:0px; on a container that's width:1000px; height:1000px; should be the same as setting width:1000px; height:1000px on the child, no? Taking a quick look at the source for this, why won't IE6 render the constraint based absolutely positioned AND SIZED elements? (note: I will be messing around with that file for a while) Thanks

Everything works fine , but the browser is not popping in the Front of the screen .Able to see the Aspx page in the task bar when I click it from there it comes to the Front . How to bring that page in front of all the Screen as soon as IE is created.   • IE8 is still caching my requests even with mathrandom.

    TLDR IE is still caching my requests even with Math.random() included in the URL. So I added math random onto the end of my url: var MYKMLURL = 'http://' + host + 'data/pattern?key='+ Math.random(); I also added math random onto my function param: window.setTimeout(RefreshPatternData, 1000, MYKMLLAYER); function RefreshPatternData(layer) { layer.loaded = false; layer.setVisibility(true); layer.refresh({ force: true, params: { 'key': Math.random()} }); setTimeout(RefreshPatternData, 30000, MYKMLLAYER); } So the request appears as http://host/data/pattern?key=35678652545 etc. It changes everytime the request is made. It works in Firefox & Chrome & Safari etc. But IE8 is still caching the data and not updating my layer. Any ideas as to why this might be occuring?

    Here's another clichéd problem, but I couldn't find an exact match to this. I haven't posted any source here, as you can freely see all that is there on the link. :-) Statement:I have a web page at http://agrimgupta.com/antaragni/ Disclaimer: Pardon me for the pathetic coding on that page. ;-) It was done on a very short interval. Improvements will be done at a later stage. Observation: This page is functioning normally on my localhost on all browsers. Problem: IE 8 is crawling (nearly hanging) while loading this page from the website. Although it is working fine on localhost. When on the website, It fails to render the mouseover effects, doing them in almost what seems like a minute. Question: How to resolve this stuck up of IE? It is necessary to resolve this.   • Smarty/PHP loop not being passed to IE(Pc) or Chrome/FF(Mac)

    Hi, I've been working on a site that has a lot of PHP/Smarty involved, I've been asked to re-skin a webstore checkout process, but during this we've discovered this issue. This particular quirk is one part of a tax calculation that doesn't get sent to the browser in IE for PC and Chrome/FF for the Mac. It's NOT in the output source in the browsers, but is in FF, Chrome and Opera on the PC. Here is the code that doesn't "work:" {foreach $cart.taxes.$currency as $tax} <div id="subTotalCaption2"><p style="width:100px;">{$tax.name_lang}:</p></div> <div id="taxAmount2"><p>{$tax.formattedAmount}</p></div> {/foreach} It's not a CSS issue as if you go all the way through the checkout process and then back to the order page (Not using the back button, using the on-site links) it works. There is another calculation on the last page of the process that does the same thing: {foreach from=$order.taxes.$currency item="tax"} <tr> <td colspan="{$colspan}" class="tax">{$tax.name_lang}:</td> <td>{$tax.formattedAmount}</td> </tr> {/foreach} I guess my question is what could cause this to not be read (Parsed?) in IE and the mac but other browsers do it fine on the PC.     Hi, I have an IE problem. I am using the jquery ajax method to call a php script. The php script just calls die(). In firefox, the error message is displayed, but in IE the success message is displayed without any data. I would prefer the error function to be called. Is there any way to fix this? I'm guessing my javascript code needs change somehow.   • WMF image data validation?

    There is an image capturing device which gives its output in wmf. This output is stored in the database directly. We have cases where at times some of these images do not appear on a web page in IE. But if we right click on the page we are able to save the image on to the hard disk; meaning the image does exist on the page, but does not appear visible. I think this is because of some file corruption issue, but I don't know how to resolve it. We are however able to view such files using MS Picture Viewer (desktop app). Is there anyway we can detect such problematic files?

    hello folks! i have a construction like this: <div id="container"> <span> <span></span> </span> <span> <span></span> </span> </div> i need to catch the mouseout event of the container, so i made jquery do this: $("#container").hover('',function(){ alert("Out"); }); In Firefox / Opera, it only fires the mouseout-function when leaving the div (how I want it). In IE it fires the mouseout-function at every -Tag inside of the div the mouse hits. (maybe important is, that the span tags have also mouseover and out events) Anyone has an idea how to solve this? (The nested structure cant be changed because a complex layout) thx4 any ideas!
